Lyrics:
A brand new human being, razor sharp, all firm and tan
All clean, all pure with a thirty-second attention span
As the clock strikes twelve, and we're ready for party games
You play blind man's bluff, and I'll play out charades
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool am I
(Heaven knows) why you take an eye for an eye
(Heaven knows) what comes over me
You were pumping iron while I was pumping irony
Now, I find myself fully occupied and half alive
With your head, heart, arms and legs wrapped around my family pride, oh
See the whites of their eyes, then shoot
With all the romance of the Tonton Macoute
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool am I
(Heaven knows) why you take an eye for an eye
(Heaven knows) what comes over me
You were pumping iron while I was pumping irony
Nothing will show as we're shedding our clothes
But then, I suppose anything goes, anything goes, mm
But then, I suppose that anything, anything goes
(Heaven knows)
(Heaven knows)
(Heaven knows)
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah (Heaven knows)
(Heaven knows) oo
(Heaven knows)
Oo, yeah (Heaven knows)
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool am I
(Heaven knows) what comes over me
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool am I
Tell me, please, please, please
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool am I
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool am I
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool, fool, fool, fool, fool, fool
Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool am I
(Heaven knows) what comes over me
(Heaven knows) what kind of fool am I
Tell me, oo

Who else is still listening to this iconic song in 2024??? ❤
Listening and watching right now for Robert’s birthday! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Here. Great song !!
❤ This!Been Awhile!Good Times,and Your Heaven Allways KnowS!Take care,nah!
Oh for sure, I bought the album when it first came out. I can say this, with all sincerity, you'd be hard pressed to find one bad song, in all of his vast, solo career!🤷
2024 aquí yo. Saludos desde xalapa veracruz. México
July 2024 still here at 71 and listening to this classic song Robert Plant is man with the voice rock on rock of ages
"you were pumping iron whilst I was pumping irony..." THAT'S a freaking line y'all.
Still, better than "skin on skin let the love begin" Lol...
@Zhefff HurrnklleIt Doesn't, Just saying it's better than...there are some lyrics out there that are worse. exhibit a.
@Bon Scott I actually kinda like that line from Women by Def Leppard. I'm generally more fond of the guitar playing than the lyrics in that song.
What the fuck does it even mean? I'm going insane at the inverse relationship between how senseless the lyrics to this song and how good the song actually is.
@@reshpeck I think it means he's been writing lyrics at the gym
OMG!! I haven't heard this since probably 88. But when I put it on, I knew it had some enormous significance to me. I closed my eyes while I started dancing and I swear I felt like my loving husband who died of cancer 9 yrs ago was holding me in his arms, kissing my neck, lifting me up and then I remembered.............So special, so real, so intense. Am I sad now. Of course. But the tears are worth being able to relive something that I can never experience with him again in this life.
pamela smeberg ❤
Ariellyn , oh yes you can, you better read revelation 21 verse 4 and remember God doesn't lie
Wonderful I can almost feel the experience reading this
God bless you and I am alone now and finally I am allowing myself to go back. What a magnificent artist......
What the actual fuck? Why can't I stop listening to this song? Is it because it's so damned amazing? Heaven knows, I guess
Why, yes , that’s EXACTLY why ✌️🫶😶🌫️.
I’ve come to realize Robert Plant’s solo career gets an A+ for effort and quality. This song is every bit as good as Zepplin songs. At the time, I bought the albums, but thought of it automatically inferior. I was wrong
In the early 2000’s I bought a shit box cheap Nissan has my first car and the previous owner left a mix tape/cassette in it with this on it and I was hooked
Robert Plant still holds the title, Best Rock Vocalist.
Jon Anderson.
@@shanemitchell477Plant all day long, every day.
HOLD MY BEER, 🍻"SAID PAUL ROGERS"?!? 🎉❤
@@terrychavez9189 I know. I still love Paul Rodgers too. Free, The Firm with Jimmy Page, Bad Company, Queen and whatever he’s doing now.
Margaret, you for got to add "ever" 😊
This would have made a great Bond Theme.
You know, you're right! Good call.
Yes!
Bond , James Bond
Bond is caught up in suspense with a beautiful woman , his life is on a razor's edge , will he make it ?
Heaven Knows
Agreed (maybe it's not too late).
70th like! Broke the 69! Oh well.
ROBERT PLANT FOREVER!
A friend of mine: Hey what's the name of that cool Robert Plant song?
Me: All of them.
Divine! The magnificent Robert Plant!!!🎶🌹👑❤
..my buddy wrote this song ..he played his cassette demo constantly..
So happy that Robert gave him the opportunity to produce the album 😇
One of the five most important musicians of the past 100 years.
I’m a fan, but that’s a ludicrous comment.
More like one of the top 50
@@thomasfitzsimmons897 Definitely one of most important and influential rock vocalists, but the category "musician" paints with too broad of a brush. Page would be a more realistic choice for "important" considering his musicianship (including what extends beyond LZ), compositions, arrangements, production, and studio engineering. So much more than just a great rock guitarist. However, him and Plant together (along with Bonzo and Jonesy) were the perfect storm.
Not even close. I love Zeppelin, love Plant's voice, but come on.....
@Mark Given that Jones is a multi-instrumentalist, his credentials and record as a musician are at least as much so, if not more so, than with Page. That said, Jones, Page, and Bonham have all had great credentials for musicianship.
ROBERT PLANT FOREVER! LONG LIVE ROBERT PLANT!
Exelent song. Magnífico clipe
Согласна👍 Можно смотреть и слушать бесконечно!!! Магия......
Plant and Page together again. No one can mistake that guitar.
The song on which Robert Plant finally regained his old voice. And I fucking loved it then and love it still.
Just started listening to Robert Plant - I really like him - this is timeless!!!!
Check out Led Zeppelin 😎... He's the frontman if you didn't already know
Been listening to him since 1969.The sexiest rock star voice of all time.
Better late than never.
Welcome to plant
Me too, one week in crazy
I saw Robert Plant on this tour in 1983 in Buffalo, NY. The Firm opened up. Robert said, we're going to do something we haven't done in a long time. Jimmy Page came on stage, played the first few notes of "Black Dog" and the whole crowd lost their minds. They played Led Zeppelin songs for the rest of the tour, but I was so thrilled to be there for that moment. Truly glorious.
Hi Ellis hope you're okay?
@@matthyswinery2269 Friend of yours?
Gosh, that man was breathtaking!!!
@RobertPlant-c3t Woo Hoo! Thank you Robert!

Awww man but just past midnight here. Happy birthday Robert, you'll always be a favorite ❤
Jimmy Page is so great that he could make a squeaky door sound melodic and beautiful. This may have been one of the only times that he collaborated with Plant during the solo years. Great song!
Honey Drippers? That and Tall Cool One on this album
Also unledded and walking to Clarksdale
Check out The Only One on Page's 1988 Outrider album! Thank me later.
Jimmy did lead on sea of love
In addition to all the collaborations on records that others mentioned (Honey Drippers, Tall Cool One, Outrider, etc.), they also played together in concert a few times during those years (after LZ and before Page & Plant). Everyone remembers Live Aid, but I saw Page make a special appearance during a Plant show on the Little By Little tour.
This should have been the song for “The Living Daylights” !!! Maybe with a tweak in the lyrics to fit the movie better, but the music is perfect for a Bond film! Man, I was so little in the 80s I wasn’t aware of Robert plant, discovering his solo work is such a gift!!!
The 80s weren't perfect, but compared to 2022, they were heaven. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones make this crazy world that we are living in today a little saner. Just wished John Bonham was still around.
With all the romance of the Tonton Macoute 🥰
80's music is the best!! Robert Plant is a god!
Hi kathy hope you're okay?
Love the guitar solo by page!
" heaven knows" this man is gorgeous
Many many thanks dearest Robert
@RobertPlant-c3t A Lot Thanks fo Ukraine!
I did not realise Jimmy played lead on this track, but now I know its so obviously Jimmy.
Hands down the best solo act I've ever seen.
Very wrong opinion.
That's what she is expressing her OPINION. Who are you to give your opinion about her opinion.
Estoy contigo en que este solo tiene alma.

It is known.
Ive heard of Led Zepellin 20 years ago. Never actually started listening to Robert Plant till few weeks ago. Holy freaking that Plant is a very classy rock musician. 1

I just saw Robert Plant, along with Allison Krauss, in Vancouver a few weeks ago and let me just say, he's just as magical as always! We had row 1 seats and I swear I was hyperventilating the entire time...
2:35 Guitar solo by JIMMY PAGE!
I can't believe I'm just now diving into Robert Plants solo material. 11 studio albums. Loving what I'm hearing so far on this album.
Just a perfect solo, note by note.
That’s funny I forgot about that. Was thinking that Doug Boyle was sure a good edition for plant lol
You are on a beautiful spiritual journey my friend.
This in one of my favorite albums to listen to when jogging and working out.
Robert like Bowie always shoots for the deep human roots of mysticism and music, sharing the all of life with all of us.
Got this on Vinyl, original. Thanks dad. Belter 80s tune
Let me in in YYOUR HAVEN,DO LET ME IN!(impossible to be here where I am TRULLY),so little to say that adoring you is A BIG SEGMNET FOR ME TO BE AKIVE!!!
Aaaawwww the sweet sound of childhood. The good old days. You know late 80's early 90's.
Fantastic video
I absolutely love Robert Plant!! This guy sings from deep within his soul, you can hear and feel it! He is truly a Masterpiece. I thank my Father for raising me on only the best music
His music comes from the heart.
Amen. ONLY THE BEST..💜(🖤).
I LOVE ROBERT and this song too much ❤❤❤
Guitar solo is f'ing PERFECT.
DAVID SHORT of course it is...it's Jimmy Page:)!
You bet
Awesome.....just awesome.
Now and Zen....
I always loved the line about pumping irony!
He is a lyrical genius.
I always thought and sang “ you were pumping iron and I was pumping iron” lol
Don’t get me wrong I love Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant, mostly because of nostalgia. But that particular lyric is corny as fuck.
@@MrGloriousg The whole song is corny. "With all the romance of the Ton Ton Macoute?" That's part of its greatness.
Little fun fact: Robert plant didn't write this song - Phil Johnstone , David Barratt did. Also People seem to have no idea of the hole meaning of this song , but its about(IMO) one older guy that keeps meeting soulless young men that are like dolls out to use him in anyway shape or forum, just like he is doing to them.
I'm also NOT projecting here, I'm not gay, not looking to be, have no problem with them doing their thing, but have studied the lyrics tying to understand the meaning of this song and came to the conclusion that, yes its about being an older gay (rich) in the mid 80's and getting used himself in the pursuit of he's lust.
I saw this concert tour with Stevie Ray Vaughn as opening act. Great show and memories. I was only 17, and really miss those days.
Bobby L. I saw Plant and SRV at the Pier in NYC on the same tour, fantastic show.
Same for me. Man SRV and Plant should have jammed on that tour. 2 legends.
Yeah saw that tour, and many more. Recently (a few years back 2017 I think) I saw his band the Sensational Spaceshifters in Philly.
Over 30 years already!
wow,legend
Haven't listened to this album since 1988. My God, what a great album it was!
My favorite on the album! White, Clean and Neat would come in a close second.
How I adore.................The wonder of Robert Plant................Verily I say.......... Heaven knows ~ kimie
Now and Zen! Great CD!
Absolutely.

Missing you Uran. Our twin flame will always burn.😊

This is real music!!!!
Love this song. It's so good.
A poetic genius musical genius brilliant man
His lyrics are incredible!
Summer of 88'. Just graduated high school. Had a beach house down at the Jersey Shore. One of the best times of my life. Was already a huge Zeppelin fan. This song and the cassette was blaring all the time. Doesn't get the credit he deserves for his solo stuff.
LOVE YOU LORD JESUS CHRIST AMEN 🙏 ❤
You have been around the world 💖 Blessings
Grew up with this song....and the video is unforgettable.
Beautifully shot Morrocan themed video.... But why is the pretty girl who is the subject of the video Asian? (looks Chinese)
Wonderful song from a better time. You're right, the video IS unforgivable. You think Robert inspired Napoleon Dynamite's dance?✌️
Me too
Between the wandering in the desert, the hair, the vaguely "biker western" costumes with the bold color palate, and band attempting to look cool while not playing their instruments - and in particular, the drummer banging on a single tom with a mallet - it is the quintessential late-80s music video. It is absolutely marvelous.
Made that much better by Plant's truly vivid over-the-top lyrical stylings. "You were pumping iron as I was pumping irony" and "With all the romance of the Ton-Ton Macoute" are simultaneously two of the greatest and most ridiculous lines in rock.
Oh Yeah!❤ This 1!Been Awhile,Hearin This,nah!And its all Comin Back To Me!CooL!
Awww... the days I spent rewinding this cassette in my car down on A1A Ft. Lauderdale Beach!
That brings me back. In fact, wasn't Robert Plant the first concert at (then) newly built Miami Arena touring in support of this album back in 1988?
Peaches Records and Tapes days on Sunrise Blvd before you hit US1
Me too, Ft Lauderdale strip back in the day. Wonderful memories
The Lamborghini dealership too @@andretv2308

The Icon
Always loved this song , still at my age of 62, I was 30 years old when it came out! Robert Plant, you rock, always, from a fan born in Puerto Rico, living in the USA now.
Hi Lynn hope you're okay?
I haven't heard this song in decades, but today the line "With all the romance of the Tonton Macoute" got into my head, and I had to look up this video.
Heavenly voice
Masterpiece, right here!
One of my favorite albums of all times. Right next to anything Alan Parsons. But I'm a Gen X'er so I love lots of music!
Good to see Robert getting some re recognition for his solo era
This is one Robert's best
Eye for eye belongs to a higher entity vengeance belongs to He whom can Judge justly He will repay
You know who on lead guitar, one of his best solos.
You're right abut that. This is in my top ten Page solos.Especially the outro!
Saw Plant's 88 tour in Costa Mesa,CA at the Pacific Amphitheater. Great show. Page, unfortunately wasn't there. Doug Boyle, Plant's guitarist on Now and Zen filled in quite admirably.
God this album was good. This song blends 80's sounds with Plant's iconic Zepplin swagger
Anyone remember BACK..........when video's actually had a story to tell within them!?!? Well,THIS was one of them!!! Fabulous song,Fabulous video!!!
Lyrics more relevant in 2034 than RP could have ever imagined. Beautiful album, criminally underrated.
robert rocks he melts my heart just awsome
Hi shona hope you're okay?
What can I say It’s HEAVEN KNOWS!! One of the best songs of all time!
Brings back memories. The late 80's had some damn good music despite being stereotyped as being nothing but glam rock. Rush was out supporting hold your fire at this time which I saw live with Tommy Shaw, triumph just had recently release two solid albums including sport of kings, Boston had released 3rd stage a year before, damn Yankees etc. Wish I could go back and relive those days.
What's wrong with glam rock--David Bowie, New York Dolls,Alice Cooper--etc--All great
I go back and relive those times almost every day. They can't take my memories away. Well,.......
I just love it!
You were pumping iron whilst I was pumping irony. One of my favorite lyrics ever.
So true! I had totally forgotten about it until he just sang it out. Love it.
What does it mean?
I just get the chills either way. Love the talent.
Plant is truly a ROCK GOD!
I was in highschool when this was released i remember flying to Vegas with this new cassette tape in my ear love Plant
Heaven knows awesome song 🎵 ♥
I used to visit jane richards in fulbourn hospital in 1988.
There was a patient there called liz. Everytime she saw me she used to say i should listen to Robert plants music . I thought why , he's past it , not my generation. Anyway she kept up with this , so l thought ok I'll buy his album " Now And Zen." And what a surprise !! Listening to the first track " Heaven Knows "
Great stuff. I loved that track ( for reasons you hopefully understand by now.) The whole album was great. " Ship of fools " as perfect a song about the Father in heaven as I've ever heard. I guess lizy has passed away by now.
Thanks lizy l owe you. Michael xx🌈🎵.
