I don't understand why everyone is hating on him for using a rotator. If your company cares about the quality of the weld they will give you a rotator and a fixture for your parts. Mine does. Tube specialties for life

It is not called a rotator. It is called a weld positioner

Some structures are so large that they have to be stationary and you have to walk as you weld. That’s why people talk shit about this setup. If you’ve welded for a while, this is actually quite easy. But it is a nice weld.

  • @MOS-MHz

I used to pipe weld and my welds were identical to this, i was thought by an old blacksmith boilermaker to weld beads like that for the job. Here comes the fun fact, although it may look cold it's a bead weld you clowns! If you ran a straight flat pass @ the same amp's and material thickness it would be flat.
Its got a rise making it look cold from the shear fact the beads overlap "stacking" as a seal prevention for any leaks. There is more heat in this weld then is probably needed and an x-ray would prove this weld to be tough as nails.
Everyone thinks they know it all yet have no idea about pipe welding, also just for the heads up another weld is ran on the inside of the flange, in most cases. Another fact about pipe welding to flanges is the fine line before TOO much heat, it's tricky. Too much heat will distort the flange making the gasket seal fail @ the point of both flanges bolted together due to a warped flange.
This isn't structural nor production line welding it's pipe welding! Now pull your thumbs out your asses and stop thinking you're some master welders.

Everyone saying that his weld is too cold is right to an extent, the only reason the weld is cold is because the motor he has turning that piece of pipe is moving extremely slow. If he had the heat turned up for proper penetration it would probably melt the material and just destroy the pipe.

But the welder in this video is really really good. I saw another comment about rotators. If you beef that then you do that quality. No human is that smooth without one and if they are then add a lot of time start to finish. Good quality is expensive and time is money.

Soap and water. I use this solution over spatter spray aerosols as spatter spray tends to leave an oily residue. Dawn dish soap and water in a spray bottle works great with no mess to wipe afterwards.

The amount of stupid in this comment section is unreal.
Anti-spatter spray in this video was done right so saying it's going to effect the weld is.... Garbage
The heat used was solid you can tell by the sound, hell the heat signature was good as well.
The " build up " and not leaving a concave weld or " dead flat" is because of the technique used to move the puddle along the seam. When you want to lay dimes you use a circular motion instead of a whipping motion ( which will give you a v signature in the weld), his circle was not compensated for the travel of the turntable which is common so his bead is more oval-esk.
Solid job to the craftsman. I don't say that to anyone almost ever.

Back and forth motions, circular motions, or whipping motions whilst Mig welding? They lead to weld defects, along with excesive heat input. Should have setup the machine to ise a spray transfer, upped the speed of the manipulator, and welded that in 3 passes.
That wouldnt pass UT at all. Can see when the start comes around, that there is no root penetration. Therefore he should have stopped, feathered out the start, cleaned the point where he stopped, then finished the bead.
This obviously isnt a workshop in which quality is high on the list of priorities. This seems the sort of place where quantity is more important than quality.

Is that 035. wire? It looks like welder is weaving the gap. Prpbably not the best penetration
    But adequate. Beautiful weld!!

Once it is touched up with a grinder it's good to go. Some of you don't know shit about welding!
