      It's a shame in most places it would be made fun of... but it makes sense if your at it all day on your own like this guy and not part of a team of a fitter/fabricator still at that it shouldn't be made fun of i often got sick from coughing after stainless or dirty pipes

      Jacob J every single individual running bead need to be wearing this gear as a minimum. No exceptions. My wife is retired Army trial judge and currently a mesothelioma attorney and all these work places insurance companies are going to be paying huge settlements for their willful disregard for people’s health and welfare, not that they are getting mesothelioma, just that this work will fund a person up forever without the right ppe.

    I know a guy who was a professional pipe fitter, and I knew he was a welder. I never realized it was such a precision thing. There's a lot more to this trade than I was previously aware. Good video, friend.

      @@pyromaniac354 well depending on what you already have on the pipe (such as elbows, couplings, branches or heavy flanges) it can be tricky to find the best balance point and weight for rotation. sometimes you have to get creative is all I'm saying

    You can always greatly appreciate a professional pipe fitter welder. Many years ago there was a team of Irish pipe fitter welders. They were absolutely magnificent. Top class work and amazing crew.

    I work in a crude oil refinery in Europe. I have mad respect for guys who can weld like that. It's a passion. In my freetime I started welding too, but it's far harder than it looks.

    This is a great example for welding steel. When u get into stainless, ur process changes. Root pass, hot pass and cap, but also a backup of argon to keep it clean inside. That takes more time and all needs to be filmed. Built many spools for chemical plants myself. Nice job dude!

      Yes but high end tables make it so much faster and millimetre perfect . Spent 20 years don g it on a bench like that now have Sigmund tables all round shop no going back once used them
      Nice welding though tables don't make that bit any easyer to do

    wow, I went in for a weld test. not much was said before on what kind of test... I've never MIGed pipe before, I didn't even the process because I've only stick and flux core welded pipe, nozzles and shell for pressure vessel... the test was a complete disaster. 😆😆😆
    now I've watched you I know the process. the only thing left to do is practice. thank you

    Wire welding is a great way for people to get started in welding. One criticism is using a torpedo on the side of a T fitting to square it up. Just not a consistent surface. Better to use the finished bevel face.

    Mig root is not allowed in the UK and I do find Capping with the Mig a bit boring but it’s great for bonus work as it’s quick and easy

    Thats a mighty fine piece of work how long did that take in real life.
    Those welds look like sub arc they are that nice. The clamping and counter balancing is perfection , your obviously an old hand at it.

    Awesome fitting and welding skills, I love the use of counter weights. What is that your using to set the landing gap? I use tig rods lol. Also someone asked how you lined your bolts holes on the flanges, we use the two hole method.

    Not a welder question. Why do you start with a gap at each joint? Would it be helpful in welding pipe fence corners?

      The gap allows you to get a root on the inside of the pipe, a good root will mean the pipe doesnt leak, if there is no gap the weld wont penetrae deep enough and eventually crack

    Great welding I’ve done structural mig welding but never used mig welding on pipe work always used tig welding for pipe work.
    Great video I really enjoyed it.

    Hi mate. Can you show the trick you used to cut/mark out the centre for the torch hole you cut please? On the domed cap. Me being a hobbyist would probably be stuck at that point, using a 2p coin, my compass, the positioning of the moon and various other strange and useless ways!

      I was wondering about it too, he talks about it in another video of his, he rubs some chalk on then pulls the level over it keeping the bubble in the middle, it'll scratch away the center from the chalk he put on it, very simple and clever trick!

    Hi iam a welder most of the time i make wishbones for racing cars but i have done this sort of work , i like the way you set it up well done. One thing i do is to tig weld the inside of the large flanges

    I don't know anywhere in the states that does pipe mig all the way out, or has those counter weights and stuff, but I like this technique and there's nothing wrong with mig welding pipe. This looks so much more efficient than the way they usually do it in the states.

      I know I fucked up my fair share of them, I would always try to use the Anti spatter Goo on the face to prevent spattter from sticking to them

      If you have a shop you have the freedom to do what you want to do. Following orders all the time make the job harder. Leave no room for creativity

      I used duct tape over all threaded area. My boss mid gauge grabbed my rod and broke up the top half to prevent arcing out . I didnt even touch anything with it. Im like wo ! dude ! im mid gauge here.

    I did this work sch 160 tig root what you have looks good. Sch 40 moves pretty quick, your jigs look cool also. We get helpers where I am from

    Some great skills you have😄. Both - welding and fabricating. I loved the trick with the chalk and level to find the center of the pipe. But what would be your prep for the root if it was a fixed position?

      i usually have no landing edge and a smaller gap so i can just control the amps to get my penetration
