    Hi Robert,may I know what kind of fabric do you use?Or what is better to use as a backing?I'm starting to follow your tips and make a beaded bridal sash.Thank you!
    Also has your book been finished yet?

    • @tambourbeader
      @tambourbeader  9 років тому

      Emma Yu the basic fabric is usually silk organza . When finished it can be backed with stiffer fabrics or inter facings depending on the intended use. The book is still in process....working on chapters 9-18.

      Robert Haven Thanks so much for reply!That's really helpful!And about the backing,I know something like woven interlining can work,you know iron on,right?But I see people use some see-through material attached on(not fabric I believe ),I think that looks great,but I don't know exactly how it's named so till now I don't know what to search and buy.Maybe you know the name or any website to get that,hope you can give me some advise!
      Thanks!

    Can you show a video of beading on suede? will this work on canvas?

    • @tambourbeader
      @tambourbeader  6 років тому

      I generally don't do tambour work on suede. That is done with need and thread. Tambour will work on pretty much any fabric that the hook can go through. I have surfaces stitches with the hook on printed vinyl that is used for outdoor signs. Its was tough but it worked.

    What is the best way in your opinion to mark your pattern on the silk organza or possibly a mesh?

    • @tambourbeader
      @tambourbeader  8 років тому

      +Sgt.Serger I use basic pencil to trace designs on silk organza or other sheer fabrics. For tulle, I sometimes use a fine point marker and trace just the major lines of the design.

    Have you ever applied the beads to the fabric side facing up? Or is the tambour method better when you work facing the wrong side of the fabric? I saw in India, tambour beading done with the beads applied from the top. This looks easier but maybe it is less effective in producing a good finish? Thanks.

      You can use the tambour hook to work that way but it is a bit fussy and not as fast as doing it from the back with beads on a spool of thread. They work from the front in India but can not use any bugle beads or seed beads smaller than a #9 or 10 because they cant get their hooks through them. The smallest tambour hook can go through bugle beads and small sees beads

      Robert Haven hmm... when I saw them applying beads they would load the tambour hook up with say five beads, hold them with their finger then stitch them into the fabric. Also, my friend who was having all this beading done for her wedding (basically like a tiny factory in her house!) said they made their hooks themselves, which they must have done because I saw some really tiny seed beads being used. I wonder if there are any resources on how to make your own tambour hooks. I'm a bit of a perfectionist by nature and think i would be able to do things better looking at what was really going on. Ive never tried tambour beading, it looks quite a daunting task to me, but some of the results look so beautiful and amazing! I will hopefully try both methods. thank you for your response. :)

      Robert Haven Also, probably getting ahead of myself here considering ive never even tried tambour beading. But dont suppose you know where I can buy an electric paper perforator thing? I dont really know the name. but to use the prick and pounce method. say if i did a really big design, or even a small design and didnt want to spend forever piercing holes in the paper. Because on the course im doing, we have to do a craft project and if i turn out to not be terrible at tambour beading, and i decided to choose tambour, it would be good to be able to do things like that quicker. Sorry if im asking too many questions! Thank you :)

      the Arri hook is used in India and it is very different that a tambour hook, The tambour hook is very sharp and and has to be highly polished and VERY sharp (I had one lodges in my finger that required a trip to the ER) Tambour hooks that we use for hand embroidery are also used by Cornely embroidery machines.

      Each method has its uses but there are many more things you can do with the tambour hook that you can not with the aari hook.
