Creeper Van Kevin idk man there’s something freeing about the idea of being able to live anywhere. I guess it’s the same feeling people get from living off the grid or on a frontier but I’m not a nutter or live in the Wild West so both those option aren’t really viable for me. The closest thing would be what this guy does. Or long haul truckers I guess
I am a pro at this. Parking in a residential area is a big NOT. Too many nosy people that know you don't belong there. Park and Ride lots are great. You can stay for days, just dont pull out your camping chair. 24 fitness for showers is a good one. Churches are another. Just ask the Paster. Wal-Mart sucks, too much traffic. Once stayed at the Police station. Nothing like hiding in plain sight. All Night Stores. (I'm here early for my shift) Get annual state/USFS park passes. Support the Military stickers. Cops don't like FUCKING with Vets. (I am one) I'd make a video but then I wouldn't be stealth would I. 😎
I park in residential spots all the time in Denver and don't have problems. However their curbs are not owned by the homeowners. Apartment places/hotels are usually the quickest if you are in town for blending in and sleeping. I like the idea of Churches, however I like the idea of blending in period. I have vet tags and cops both times let me off when my liscence happened to be suspended lol. I'm in a blacked out Honda Element.
Hey I'm about to start camping in San Francisco for community college for a semester and dont wanna pay for apartments honestly. I have 24 fitness and workout vigorously. I wanna create a stealth camper shell with my tacoma 2014 bed access cab. Any tips?
Closest I've come to doing this is because I had to literally crawl out of a bar. Way too much to drink on a birthday. Decided to crash in the back of the jeep. Chicago cops woke me up and after I showed ID they wanted to ticket me for vagrancy. I pleaded (would say argued but there is no way it sounded like that) and he finally let me sleep it off for a few more hours.
@TheRealCritique Im pretty sure Canada has similar gun ownership rates to the US. Many European countries have higher rates. You're only scared because you've been lied to by ideologues in the press.
I did this exact same thing in my 1982 Tacoma 4X4 about 35 years ago! I had a setup similar to yours. Just a camper shell. My bed was in two parts and I could make a 1/2 bed or a full bed across the back by sitting part of the bed on the shelving units I had. Had a Coleman stove, lantern, cookware, rain tarp that would cover a picnic table and clothes is about all. I took a year off with my girlfriend and toured most of the US. I did a lot of urban boondocking. Places near apartments were always good, no one noticed a strange vehicle. Back then, you could stay in rest stops without getting hassled. Stayed in a lot of National Forests and BLM land. Of course I stayed places I had to pay for, like in National Parks, but sometimes you could still find a free place there. My 4X4 took me a lot of places where nobody was at anyway, so staying was no problem! I had a book called something like "Where to Camp Free", which showed me a lot of great places. There are a couple of apps now that so the same thing. Best and most adventurous year of my life! I was around 28 years old then.
Jack Blommel : you are right red is best , blue pigments in day time are good but for light red is best ( Harvard health )or google best calming light at night .
Its not Delivery Its Delissio are you stupid? Blue light literally makes your brain think it’s day time so it keeps you awake longer. One glance of blue light can keep you awake for up to an extra two hours
Stealth camped across the country in a 2005 Volvo V70 station wagon. I used Reflectix for the windows as well. The Volvo was cramped but for one person I thought it worked fine. Using a duel battery setup I was able to have refrigeration. Not having to rely on eating out I saved tons. Its nice to see a fellow stealth camper.
Enclose the reflective insulation in cloth as right now if a flashlight is aimed at the window it will reflect back out giving away that you are blacking out the window. Enclosing them also lets you make smaller sections with overlap of fabric flaps to block the light making them easier overall to install Can also make thicker insulation panels that are too heavy for velcro so can instead put eye hooks in to use bungee cords to hold them in place
To be honest, I plan on doing this and if I wanted to get a package delivered, I would ask a nearby friend if he or she could have the package delivered to their place
Awesome man! Thanks for the video. Keep me coming. I also have a ‘03 Tacoma, Just bought an A.R.E. MX series. Going to start building my set up and traveling by the summertime. Can’t wait! 😄
I do a lot of "stealth camping" with my hatchback and teardrop trailer combo. If I am parking up in a populated area I try to find the industrial areas to post up in. There are usually big rigs parked along the sides of the roads doing the same thing and you wont get bugged as much by nosy neighbors.
I really enjoy watching your videos. And the way you talk is very nice and subtle, not overbearing like a lot of you tubers Thanks and keep up the great work!!
car makers are idiots!!! I have a frontier lv v6 and what i really want is the smaller trucks everyone made up to the late90's. Every home owner can use a small truck. Good gas mileage and great for home and garden needs, now even the smaller trucks are big. You see so many gardeners trucks are 20 plus years old and didn't cost $25,000. plus.
I don't know between a warm color vs red but the main point is to not have blue. The blue light will keep you awake by significantly suppressing melatonin production. Check it out!
Hey man, thank you so much for this video; I've been looking for a way to insulate/lightproof my jeep for this purpose and you nailed it with the Velcro and other material. I'll stay tuned here as I'll be in a similar situation soon...fortunately, I have some prep time. Thanks again, man!
I stealth camped in a similar setup in my Tacoma. Even slept in a 24-Hour Fitness in Livermore. I always opened the sliding windows a bit to reduce condensation and so I could hear what was going on around me. It was crazy cold inside but I dealt with it.
I can't believe this doesn't get more recognition but that is some superb cinematography! Your cut scenes are great and they really tie the video together and make it feel like a real production, but you do it so casually it just feels like you're messing around with the camerawork and happen to get this great footage. Its like I came for the van lyfe but stayed for the production quality.
Had no idea what the hell i was watching in the beginning but I watched about 3 of your videos and honestly I enjoyed them. Maybe me laugh, and that’s cool as hell what your doing I would have never thought of that. Be safe man and keep making videos!
A buddy of mine had the same problem. Eventually he just took out all the glass pane's of the cabs rear window. As well as the shells glass from its window. Then used contact cement to lay a 6" wide strip of 1" thick rubber (used for large-scale sealing of some form) One edge glued to the cab, the other to tye shell. Perfectly sealing the gap between the two so that he could crawl to either with ease. Eventually he added curtains to keep outsiders from peering in to see his little operation lol.
Sonny luong I have an 03 Tacoma. The first generation Tacoma’s are bullet proof. They have kept their value because the quality is unmatched. If you go in “Tacomaworld” search for the 200,000 mile club, and the 500,000 club. As far as vehicles go it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made.
TheUtuber999 Nice try, we all know where "American" trucks are manufactured nowadays...funny how the chicken tax actually bolstered the reputation of "foreign" trucks like the tundra and tacoma in the long run...
Connor Barr I hate to look like I'm playing both sides here, but though your comment is correct, the quality of American trucks is VERY different from the quality of American cars. Lately, generally, American cars have been overpriced turds. American trucks, however, are overpriced quality vehicles that are quite capable.
on my last truck setup I had. i used accordion boot material. you take out the back cab window and the window of the topper and the material seals the 2 together. it made really easy to get from the cab into the truck bed. and it feels more open as well
tj G Its better to get some small LED lights that aren't draining the vehicle battery. Something like a $100 portable power pack like a Yeti that has USB charge ports on it is handy. Only thing is, once that runs out, you gotta charge it at work or something if you plan to use it regularly.
Obviously you would want to do some upgrades to electrical. An easy start is with a more expensive battery. My XS Power battery doesn't die just because I left the dome light on for long periods of time.
I did this in my Nissan Pathfinder for a season or two . Saved a lot of money and was a lot smarter with my spendings & decisions. It did get a bit stiff since self collapsed seats move forward like today’s SUV’s. Also didn’t have curtains or a “cab” just hatchback. When it rained and I didn’t have to worked that day, I actually was cozy enough to sleep in and meditate, write some music, or read some books. Rain sounds against car was relaxing for sure.
There's only one way to stop it and it's keep the heat on and crack a window. Otherwise it's impossible, condensation is everywhere during the cold months.
I’ve got an 04 x-tra cab Tacoma, and I just picked up a shell! After seeing this I’m definitely gonna look into getting a cot and some of that reflective/insulation gear, looks awesome man
Mo Rodents eat rubber, for f'in fun. I have 4 garage doors that have the rubber gaskets with the corners chewed out by mice and rats. If they smell food or sense warmth or a dryer spot, they will make it inside. They chewed 1/2" plywood in my storage trailers and I had to put steel plates in the corners to stop them. I had a rodent eat the speedometer cables out of a Jetta I left stored for a month in a storage unit. I threw a bag of mothballs in to clear them out, same with the trailer. Rubber may keep the water out but not a rodent in search of a new condo.
Forest Girl Just not enough room for me, I’m 6’2” so I couldn’t stretch out comfortably. An older Suburban is a lot of bang for the buck and tons of room. Not knocking this setup, I actually love it. I’ll never sell my Yota pickup, but I wouldnt want to make it a camper with a 6 ft bed.
Forest Girl As a chick you can rock the Sienna all day but not me. I had an 02 when I was married and it was decent but I can’t drive one and maintain my man card. It was also hard as heck to find a buyer for it. It took me many years to even entertain the idea of owning a domestic vehicle. My first car was an 84 Celica, and had many 82-89 Supras, went to College and was trained as a Toyota tech but as I got older I learned to appreciate the whole spectrum (except Ford) lol.
love your channel! Been living in my Toyota Prius for 4 years - 24 hour Planet fitness parking lots are good, unless its a mall parking lot with its own security team. 24 hour stand-alone Planet Fitness, or in small-medium sized shopping strips
I started whitewater raft guiding during summers when I was in college and have stuck with it since. My college offered a guide-school program and that's how I got into it.
Nice! If velcro adhesive melts in the heat, use contact cement (Dap) on plain velcro. I converted my stock dome light to red nightlight and installed a much brighter LED strip for on-demand lighting.
Because it's often illegal. Regardless, if you are found out, police or security could become involved and you could be arrested or detained for a while. Also, I was stealth camping once on the street near apartments and a hotel and a homeless man who was shirtless from the nearby encampment tried to break into my minivan at 2 AM. He was not aware I was in the rear of the van sleeping.
Because it is often illegal, depending on the municipal regulations. You also risk having someone knock on your door at 3 AM at night to kick you out or having the police come to detain for half an hour while they run checks, question you, etc. All a neighbor has to do is call the police and say there is a suspicious vehicle in the area or they want a wellness check to make sure you are not dead or sick or drunk. If a police car sees your car in an area where it is unusual, they will check you out.
Good question! Depends on the county you're in and the local laws. Most of the time if the authorities catch you they'll just tell you to move on. So I hear..
Not so stealth, eh? That was Uvas reservoir, McKean to then to Harry rd, and left turn at the light onto Almaden expressway. Those construction guys in the lot at the light were working on a water pipeline to Santa Teresa water treatment plant. I would camp in my truck on water skiing trips, but that was a full size GMC. I cannot image doing it in a smaller taco.
I had a fiberglass camper top on my truck and built it with a bed and resting area boot on it, took out back window and window in shell and it was a nice crawl through also took black spray paint and sprayed the inside of all the window's so you couldn't see in at all, of course you couldn't see out either unless you opened the curtains in from to cab.
Victor Da Silva - At McDonalds, of course. Would you expect someone to eat there? And it’s open 24 hours. Wolf down a double cheeseburger if you’re constipated, and Voilà!
I would love to live in a truck or storage unit but can’t because I have a family so this channel really helps me live vicariously through you

Switch to red cellophane so it won't kill your night vision
Jack Blommel red light makes it hard to sleep, blue light is calming.
Didn't know thanks for the tip!
Jack Blommel : you are right red is best , blue pigments in day time are good but for light red is best ( Harvard health )or google best calming light at night .

Quick tip: Swap out the blue cellophane to red. Red light helps protect your night vision and still provides plenty of light for you to see.
My thoughts when I saw him do it.
this is the best new thing i've stumbled upon on. get it roadie
Hotel parking lots is where I go for if I need a camp spot in the city.
Do you get airflow in the bed? I find it hard to sleep with stagnant air.
Kwang Chon I think it's the same if you were in a tent. He could put a portable fan in there that take batteries so it won't use the car battery
Nick C nah tents have little vents around the place he has no air inflow at all I think
Installing a vent with a 12 volt fan will help
You could crack the windows
Timothy Husketh The most logical answer here.

I would change the color from blue to a warm color if you want to sleep well at night. Looks rad though!
Austin Bauman I agree. Get a warmer color or even red.

How are you going to control the moisture buildup inside that camper?
I think baking soda is for odors, not moisture
I heard that cat litter in a sock, tie it shut and leave it laying around works, also they make products for that.
He has carpet on the inside and roof so there’s no moisture
Moisture eliminator from Dollar tree may help.

Fair enough! My Sienna has almost 8" feet of length behind the front row.
Haha, ok! LOL! I agree that minivans are harder to sell.
love your channel! Been living in my Toyota Prius for 4 years - 24 hour Planet fitness parking lots are good, unless its a mall parking lot with its own security team. 24 hour stand-alone Planet Fitness, or in small-medium sized shopping strips
Nice idea and setup
How tall are you . Do you fit good in there ?
Chepe it's a 6 1/2 foot bed so most people would fit very comfortably
Red light is better on the eyes at night... try it..
Thanks, this video has helped me tremendously!!!!
Cool set-up!
Do you keep anything with you for self defense
He mentioned he's armed in another vid iirc
He's got 2 guns. Righty and lefty 💪
You never know. Never just assume that everything will go right and nothing bad will happen.
Can confirm that this guy needs self defense, was born on Hilltop.
Nick C Ayyee
You should have a camera setup just in case
Awesome setup
Just found your vids! Im loving them, keep up the work and keep your videos simple please. Thats why we like you!!!! :)
awesome vid bro im living in my van ATM
I need a rv van
You mean the old Volkswagen rv van?
i have a Mitsubishi van.... i just showed it in my new vid
Is it down by the river?
im at tincanbay australia
Id keep a shotgun like the shockwake mosberg, or handgun for self defense.
He mentioned he has one in a previous video iirc
Average Guy oh nice.
Fvneral 69 Bro, 11.5in AR pistol build would be sweet.
I would honestly just keep a pistol. Bigger firearms would raise problems in other states like cali
Damn, you gun nuts are some paranoid, scared ass pussies
DO THIS MORE OFTEN MAN
Love watching these kinds of vids
Great video. Awesome setup bro. Thanks for sharing 👍😀
What guide services do you provide?
Whitewater rafting
That's sick
Urban truck stealth camping..... or sleeping in your car in a parking lot
I'm buying a 02 Tacoma on Monday July 9th. It has 158k miles. Truck goals!
You will get depression staring at that Reflectix. I'm amazed at how many people do this to their rides.
How does one get into becoming a guide?
I started whitewater raft guiding during summers when I was in college and have stuck with it since. My college offered a guide-school program and that's how I got into it.
What river?
Nice! If velcro adhesive melts in the heat, use contact cement (Dap) on plain velcro.
I converted my stock dome light to red nightlight and installed a much brighter LED strip for on-demand lighting.
Can someone explain why stealth camping is so dangerous? Why does it seem like it’s a scary thing to do?
I wanna know too
Because it's often illegal.
Forest Girl Arrested for what?
Because it is often illegal, depending on the municipal regulations. You also risk having someone knock on your door at 3 AM at night to kick you out or having the police come to detain for half an hour while they run checks, question you, etc. All a neighbor has to do is call the police and say there is a suspicious vehicle in the area or they want a wellness check to make sure you are not dead or sick or drunk. If a police car sees your car in an area where it is unusual, they will check you out.
That's badass man major props to you
I like how you turned your truck into a room. I'd like to do that if I go hiking sometime.
Is it legal to do this Or would you get in trouble if caught
Good question! Depends on the county you're in and the local laws. Most of the time if the authorities catch you they'll just tell you to move on. So I hear..
It’s a felony. 15-20 years in ass raping prison.
It's supposed to be ok for "vacationing" not so much for permanent living.
dawsonmorganplaysminecraft Are you like 12 years old?
DeepForest lol he’s a fucking kid
Hey that’s San Jose! I’m from San Jose.
Marcus Stephens Small world.
San jose in the house!
Marcus Stephens Same! I noticed the area right away when he pulled into the gas station.
Yeah, getting a custom window to make the pass through between the bed and the cab passable would be a must.
I hope you know blue light is extremely bad for your eyes.
Where do you poop???
In someones nearby bushes.
In his pants duh.
I usually just go wherever I happen to be standing. Which is usually Walmart or Dominoes.
Victor Da Silva -
At McDonalds, of course. Would you expect someone to eat there? And it’s open 24 hours. Wolf down a double cheeseburger if you’re constipated, and Voilà!
Great truck! 2.7 is a torque monster motor. With a timing chain. No belt to change. I had the same truck in 1996
Man this is so cool. I totally love your truck dude. Such a cool thing I bet you love life
Carry a gun and don’t worry about being murdered...
Stealth Camping
*Has A White Truck*
I think the idea is that the fact that hes camping is stealthy rather than him being generally stealthy.
Awesome vid, looks very cozy!
Nice accesses, big fan of those shoes
Dude thats awsome great idea . Am going to do that to the silverado thanks ,
I love these videos and I don’t know why!
Love these bro!!!! Keep them up
I love doing this in busy areas (don't mind the noise) and using cameras to do some stealth people watching
