I'm confused.. You own a new generation Toyota Tacoma that costs a pretty penny, you work but you live in your truck? I'm just trying to understand what the point of all this is.

I was wondering if/when someone would ask this.. Correct. Im not good at summarizing my situation but.. I crunched the numbers a few years back and decided to make a plan, to stop lining the pockets of landlords and lenders and set out to find freedom and happiness. Bought some cheap but prime land. Started teaching myself construction methods and decided to get a job in construction. I work full time in the city but retreat to my place of peace and solitude on the weekends. I left a data analyst career with a fortune 100 company for this, and make less than half the amount, but I have no regrets. My goal is to leave the cities entirely, live simply, and help others. That to me is success and freedom. It has been challenging. I may never fully get there but I think it’s worth pursuing.

Good call on living in the woods and getting away from the day to day! I put a box in the back of my Taco also, but a great way to secure it is this..... buy some t-nuts for the rail system, drill through the box and bolt it down. I used 3/8-16 threaded hand knobs for easy removal. When my box is closed and padlocked, you can't get in to unscrew the handles. I'm using the large plastic tote/storage chest from Tractor Supply. Keep up the life YOU want to live and forget the rest!

That bed idea is genius. I sleep in my Tacoma a few days a week due to work issues (long story.) But luckily I’m short (5’ 6”) & I can curl up in the back seat. Only problem is, it’s very uncomfortable & I hate not being able to stretch my legs out, just like you stated. Being a single guy with no kids, I don’t have passengers often. So I’m seriously starting to think about removing my passenger seat as well. Thanks for planting the seed. Awesome video ✌🏾👍🏾

For the privacy you could consider getting form cut sun shades for your side and rear windows. They make them for more than just your windshield but otherwise nice mods. Another item, if you want aireflow, you can buy a cheap fan for around $10ish dollars and what are called "Roadie" Overnight window tent (they stretch over your doors). You put them on your rear doors and they give you a mesh cover so you can crack down your windows without letting bugs in

    • @ArcadianOutpost

I may look into the form cut shades. Good idea. Also, since you brought up the fan, I am currently working on a simple and effective airflow project that doesn’t cost much. Don’t know when it’ll be completed, as it’s not quite needed anymore with the cooler weather coming, but I’ll certainly make a video when it’s done sometime. Thanks for sharing the tips.

If I were young, then this is how I would live. The cost of renting or buying these days is ridiculous. Young people are paying much higher rent for a crappy apartment here in Ft. Worth, Texas, than what my mortgage was on my house! Even if I had the monies to pay this high rent; I still wouldn’t hand over (that) much to some bloodsucker. The Walmart by me in Ft. Worth, parking lot has anywhere from 50 to 100 people at any given time living in their vehicles. Most of them are fully employed and they are not on drugs or anything. Personally, I see this as a form of higher intelligence.

I lived in my 1995 4runner for 6 months. Back seats layed down perfectly for sleeping, and all my stuff was dry and secure. A truck does not seem like it would not be a good option for living out of, unless a person had a camper of some kind.

Crack maybe 2 or 3 windows to reduce condensation inside instead of all 4 like in the summer. When you wake up, use anything long enough push brake pedal and press start engine button to warm up vehicle. Lol. Too easy. A set of those and you’ll be private, even with lights on, cooler, and you don’t have to tint front dark so you can still see out the sides at night. I say go for it but plan it out. I planned my “escape” out over the course of a year. The people I see failing at this and selling off their land are the people that compulsively bought it, with no plan, and they don’t actually know what living off the grid is; they show up and want to run power lines to their little cabin… So now they are on the grid and depend on the grid. My land is a 30 year project to retire on and be off the grid. But yes, I say go for it if it’s been on your mind a while.

Something to consider when on a low budget. I have a 25’ travel trailer I keep in eastern Arizona at a rv park in the white mountains. Good escape from the desert summer heat. Rent and electricity runs me less than $300 a month. RV’s are now coming down in price, especially the used ones. You could find a smaller one for less than $5000 to live out of that you could tow behind your Tacoma. And, relocate it to where ever. BTW, you can camp for free on blm (Bureau of Land Management) land around here.

An article was written about my complex and towards the end of the article, a resident stated how some residents would love to stay within the town. He/she may eventually become homeless and start living in their car. Due to the increased cost of living, poor conditions of the complex, and management. It’s become unaffordable and unreasonable. There is a lack of renters protection/falling short. People of the Twin Cities criticized that the individual whom made that comment was exaggerating their situation/ideology. The truth is, not everyone has a place to go or stay. They have to make the best of their situations. I agree with you about how these investors and landlords do not care about the residents. It’s a corporation of greedy elites that thinks or acts like we are ATMs. It’s time to no longer give them that power over us. It’s becoming more of a trend now, that people are now converting into living in their vehicles till their lives either gets better or gives them that freedom to save, live, and thrive. Lots I could say here. Bought it used in 2018 with very low miles and a great price compared to the cost of one today. Fuel isn’t too bad. I have a highway rated Goodyear all terrain tire that is a size larger than the stock tires. They are great off road and feel like air ride suspension compared the BF Goodrich mud terrain KM3 I had before these (worst and most expensive tire I’ve ever owned on a vehicle by the way, they handled great for off road terrain and that’s all they are good for). I get about 19+ mpg highway and maybe 17+ city with mine now. The mud terrains got me 16 if I was lucky and the soft rubber didn’t last long at all. My advice, don’t ever buy the aggressive ones unless you really need it. You’ll pay out the pocket for them.

I was worried about them too while disconnecting the wiring but I just went for it and stayed clear, even while turning on the truck the first time afterwards. I’ve seen videos of vehicle cleaning professionals remove seats regularly to deep clean under them. Don’t do it based on my word though lol.

Pretty smart to remove front seat just not functional for carrying any passengers. I have 4 seats for passengers in my Suburban because I have a piece of 4x8 oak in the back that I have cut in 2/3 and 1/3 sections so the 1/3 section can be moved to allow the middle seats to be used. I can carry almost 3,000lbs in the Burb and tow 10,000. I can get 20mpg on the highway at 60 and my vehicle costs less up front and is cheaper to maintain when it does need parts. Love that Toyotas are made in US-Indiana but the price to function ratio is too high. You can talk about whether or not Toyotas are overpriced. I’d say old Corollas are not but old Toyota trucks are. Cool setup though.

    • @ArcadianOutpost

@@oldnatty61 I definitely think a bed cover would be useful at some point. I may start with a folding hard top tonneau cover but if I found the right price it would be cool to get a shell, but some extra costs come into play when you begin adding weight to the truck. Less gas efficient and I’ve heard a heavy shell may cause some sagging in rear suspension. Not 100 percent sure though. If I ever got a shell, I’d make a hoist to lift it off the back, should I ever need the bed space. And yes, served in the Army🇺🇸
