Weakauras: wago.io/X4fnTMLB7 2/28 Hotfix: Pulsating Riftshard damage doubled, but shield reduced by 50%. This is a nerf. The damage is still bad, and the shield is now no longer great. www.wowhead.com/news/patch-9-2-datamined-sepulcher-of-the-first-ones-trinket-hotfixes-for-feb-28th-326139
So... I've been running havoc for pvp, but started running vengeance for ZM stuff, because the leap is super helpful for getting up to chests and things. I have to say, vdh is super fun to bang around with. Enough to tempt me into running m+, which I have barely done given my pvp focus. I swapped to kyrian to level my renown and crafted the leggo that reduces sigil cd. Man, it slams packs down. I have a low ilvl leggo with the fiery brand cd reducer, but it is kinda boring. Given the aoe dps of Elysian decree, I don't mind not running spirit bomb, in order to focus on the sigil cd reduction.
Spirit Bomb is a better setup for damage and self-healing when played optimally, but getting comfortable with the standard rotation is totally fine, and the benefit of combining Razelikh's Defilement with Blind Faith from double Legendary in a couple of weeks is extremely strong -- and fun!
As someone who played only arena up to BFA, vengeance DH was the spec that got me into M+ and I played hundreds of hours of M+ and raiding as veng since then. It's so much fun
I just feel like i die so quick, i mean i’m 245 ilvl atm and i really need to be careful when pulling more than 1 pack on +7 dungeons. Often 2 packs literally one shot me on pull even when i instantly pop demon spikes. Not sure if it’s just me or the class..
Definitely not just you! Demon Hunter gets a massive boost of value out of tier set bonuses and double Legendary. Without them, and without defensive cooldowns active, it basically feels like tanking on a Mage.
Spirit Bomb is good now, as long as you're running Blind Faith. Feed the Demon is definitely not worth using right now. It may not be good even once we have tier -- but it might be great!
Yeah, unfortunately VDH's pure ST damage is pretty weak. In comparison with other tanks, it's generally at or near the bottom on fights like Skolex or Halondrus that have zero adds. Running Razelikh's Defilement can help with DPS, but it's still a lower ceiling than most other classes. VDH does handle itself really well on AoE situations, though. The damage VDH deals in Mythic+, add fights, and situations like the final phase of Pantheon is really good. It's also pretty forgiving, which is great. It's just unfortunate that the pure ST damage is so weak. Hopefully it's something Blizzard addresses in 9.2.5. They could double the damage of Fracture (or triple it). Probably a good starting point.
How hard is it to catch up now ? I was a vdh main and like I've epics from mythic but was from 2 years ago I'm like covenant rank 12 and 184 with the fiery brand legendary would it be a massive headache to catch up to so some dungeons now ?
The catchup mechanics in Patch 9.2 are pretty good! You can craft or buy 233 crafted gear, which is not unique-equipped, and fill in most of your lowest ilvl slots with that as needed, and you can equip one piece of 262 crafted gear (typically a ring or neck due to the guaranteed socket). Cosmic Flux is much easier to acquire this patch than the Legendary crafting materials from the previous patches, as well.
For damage: Razelikh's Defilement (and don't play Spirit Bomb) For defense in raid: Fiery Soul (again, no Spirit Bomb) For defense in M+: Fel Devastation (and play Spirit Bomb)
@@stewynew It's entirely dependent on which non-Unity Legendary you're running. Fiery Soul and Razelikh's require you to consistently use Soul Cleave, which is really bad as Spirit Bomb. Fiery Soul is great for consistent defensive value in raid, and Razelikh's is good for damage output. Darkglare Boon gives both defensive and offensive value, and it synergizes really well with Spirit Bomb, unlike the other two. It's a setup that works very well in AoE, so it can be useful for some raid fights -- but it's definitely not as consistent. It's generally a weaker choice for pure single-target fights, but it's alright overall. Ultimately, this means Spirit Bomb can be good in raids, but you need to be using Darkglare Boon and doing an AoE fight for it to be worthwhile.
I am currently doing 18+ mythics with the fiery soul legendary. With the double legendary coming tomorrow I will also get the blind faith of course on my belt. What do you think is best to do? Currently I can handle a 18+ but it’s very tough, I can’t imagine missing my defensive legendary. Do you think it’s best to keep fiery soul legendary with blind faith untill we get better geared and then switch fiery soul to darkglaire boom?
That's a good approach. Darkglare is good once you have 4-piece. Until then, it's kinda risky, even with Blind Faith. Razelikh's is a decent option that will add a ton of damage, but still offer decent defensive value thanks to the synergy with Blind Faith.
Darkglare Boon *as Venthyr only* is a potentially-good option for ST DPS because it synergizes with the Venthyr Legendary, which extends the duration of Sinful Brand every time you deal damage with Fel Devastation. It's definitely not good unless you're Venthyr with double Legendary and the 4-piece tier set. Even then, probably not great. If you're playing Kyrian, Razelikh's is a better ST option than Darkglare Boon or Collective Anguish, especially once you combine it with Blind Faith.
@@WoWatNight collective also extends it without the RNG and has more ST for vengence (consistantly ofc for parsing darkglare) since eye beam is more st focused damage unlike fel dev for havoc
@@WoWatNight That makes no sense if it true. Collective Anguish works for Havoc (double up on extending Sinful Brand), so I don't see why it wouldn't work for Vengeance as well.
with so many more chances to roll thanks to our tier set Darkglare might actually feel like a legendary. With one miniscule proc, your 45 second fel dev gives a 3 minute metamorphosis a run for it's money 😢.
True. The biggest concern with this whole setup is the chance of going a while with bad RNG and no Darkglare Boon procs. The defensive value from Blind Faith, once double Legendary is unlocked, should cover up a lot of VDH's defensive weak spots when you do get unlucky with procs, so it will probably wind up balancing out over the course of a run pretty well. Having more defensive cooldown options is always a good thing!
@@WoWatNight whatever direction they take this class next expansion, I think meta is ready for some changes. For a 3 min CD 15 seconds of meta is too short and in general Demon Form feels weaker than it has in years.
@@brandon9689 True, just getting armor and % health is a weird design, and it's really not great when considered in the context of other tanks' big 3-minute cooldowns. The class' defensive toolkit works pretty well in Patch 9.2's raids and Mythic+ due to Legendaries and Covenant Powers, but once those are stripped away, there's reason to be concerned. Of course, there will probably be some kind of new systems in 10.0 to compensate, but it's a matter of whether those actually wind up being good, which, well, we can only hope.
Then just run Brand leggo or the CDR on Decree leggo with Infernal Armor and strictly soul cleave. On the PTR, Immo Aura had about an 85% uptime, so Infernal Armor is a massive (nearly) permanent armor buff.
Yup, people run Spirit Bomb because it's best for damage and healing, but you can make non-Spirit Bomb builds work fairly well, and Brand Legendary or Razelikh's Defilement will synergize nicely.

Good video, thanks for the info. I switched from Night Fae to Kyrian to specifically tank for 9.2, so this was helpful.
Glad it helped and we're thankful for the feedback!
