A nice bit of early footage, even if the quiality isn't great. Really good to see stuff this early actually, as it's few and far between. Well, actually there isn't anywhere near enough footage from any period for a band as unique and brilliant as The Pogues. Thanks for this.
I dunno his show featured some great talent from what I've seen and he didn't pull any punches, very refreshing when you see the tripe we get from network TV here in the states.
Cait O'Riordan was born in Lagos Nigeria as she stated in this interview. Not sure if Gay Byrne believed her. There was obviously no internet in those days for verification
Can anyone tell me what Bob Geldof is talking about? My apologies I'm a 27 year old Jamaican Canadian who doesn't know a lot about Irish culture but is willing to learn (lol).
She says in Lagos Nigeria in and English accent. That was were she was born and brought up in the UK. One of her parents are Irish, that is her connection. The Pogues are a London band wit some having the odd Irish parent.
Cait's father was from Ireland and her mother was from Scotland. Both of Shane's parents were from Ireland, and he spent his early childhood there. Phil Chevron and Terry Woods were both from Ireland.
Well someone better tell Shane cause he spells it MacGowan. Really, if folks are just going to keep spouting drivel here I'm going to have to turn off comments.
Dude, you're completely fucked, for one thing you can't even spell his name (he sure has you beat there eh?) and I saw him in DC a couple months ago and he was in great form.
Love Shane Macgowan and how proud he is of his Irish roots. National treasure.

Thanks for sharing this with us, great to see them all relevantly sober and so young!!!
saw pogues live at brixton in 07 and shane was in great form then too.
Interesting to see how the Pogues were initially rejected in the homeland of their parents.
