- "Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) is a happy, hockey-loving 11-year-old Midwestern girl, but her world turns upside-down when she and her parents move to San Francisco. Riley's emotions -- led by Joy (Amy Poehler) -- try to guide her through this difficult, life-changing event. However, the stress of the move brings Sadness (Phyllis Smith) to the forefront. When Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley's mind, the only emotions left in Headquarters are Anger, Fear and Disgust."

Depression is lack of emotion, not sadness. Feeling sad is the most essential part of healing.
Correct: you cannot "leave sadness behind". Sadness is not negligible or useless. It's the repression of Sadness by Joy that's been the problem, not the presence of Sadness. We see that very strongly expressed when it's Sadness who understands why Bing Bong is crying, and Joy isn't able to.
Loved seeing you go on the journey of being annoyed with Sadness to realizing her value and the importance of sadness to balance out joy!

*Bing-Bong dies*
Daniel: "I am sad"
Sadness changes the color only when Riley feels sad.
Riley is literally trying to have a mental break down and she’s just not being allowed to cry about it she is valid and feeling upset
Sadness is required. To see it, all you have to do is picture anything you'd feel sad _about_ (death of your child, perhaps?) and then try to picture what it would mean to be _unable_ to feel sad about that, only having the other options. Which one? Fear? Disgust? Anger? Joy? Which one are you picking to feel in such a situation?
Part of this movie is presenting the idea of toxic positivity. There _is_ a point at which trying to just 'be happy' _does not work,_ and you see it before the end. When Bing Bong's 'rocket' is lost, Joy tries to make Bing Bong happy. Jokes, funny faces, etc. Being positive. That isn't what was needed right there, it not only _doesn't help,_ it actively _makes things worse._
When Riley lost all those things she loved, the sources of her core memories, why _wouldn't_ she be sad? Friends? Gone. Hockey? Gone. All the fun she had back home? Gone. Of _course_ she's sad! And she _should_ be! It would be _insane_ (literally, stuff in the DSM) for her _not to_ feel sad about that. She'd have to be a psychopath or suffering from some form of affective disorder (unable to feel).
Good reaction, though.
Have a nice day!
The closest we ever got to an Office-Parks & Rec crossover (in addition to Amy Poehler & Phyllis Smith, who you recognized, Mindy Kaling was Disgust).
This is probably Pixar's best standalone movie, and ranks with Toy Story 3 as their best period. The director, Pete Docter, also made Monsters Inc., Up, and Soul - not a bad track record.
Don't know if you've seen any Studio Ghibli movies, but they're worth checking out too; Spirited Away, The Wind Rises, My Neighbor Totoro and (especially) Grave of the Fireflies are excellent.
This is one of my favorite Pixar movies. I haven't watched Soul yet. I should check it out.
There are several recognizable actors/comedians in this. Besides the ones you mentioned: Mindy Kaling (also from the Office), Bill Hader, and Lewis Black are some that stand out to me.
It's not unique and creative, it's the most unique and creative movie of all, only movies that can come close to it are Soul, and Elemental.
I don't understand, why so many people don't understand at the beginning. I mean, isn't this what happens, when a big change in life happens? Especially kids are sensititive at this. And yo can't just suppress sadness and pretend to be happy.
Inside Out's brilliance made you say out loud "I hate sadness". Your disdain for Sadness was a bit annoying. At least, you REALLY didn't see the movie's point coming. :D

Awesome thank you!
@G R She's not the villain, really; she just didn't get it. She had some things to learn. Like many of the rest of us.
I've never seen this movie, and I'm kind of disappointed I had to hear about this on UA-cam. What Patreon tier do I need for full movie reaction access? I'm already paying $10 a month. Do you want my car note and the deed to my house as well, fam?

@@DanielWatches Thanks, I'll check out more of my perks. Appreciate the response. Also, know that towards the end there I was just riffing and not tryna come at you like that.
@@ivankawnartist All good lol
@@DanielWatches Is it all good? Are you good? Do you need a friend to talk to? I know I do. Haha. I'll be here anytime you need baby. All jokes aside, you seen that Industry Baby music video by Lil Nas X?
I love how Riley's dad's emotions were all men and Riley's mom's emotions were all women
but Riley's emotion's gender are mixed.. It can mean two things
Either Riley is questioning..And once she figures out her gender...Her emotions will become the gender she is sure of or it means she is not one of the two genders
also Riley's emotions are childish and immature(which is why at first sadness may have come off as irritating but she was just curious..Also that is indeed what we feels sometimes) unlike her parents whose emotions are very controlled and stuff.. Cause these emotions are children as well.. the emotions are as old as they are
very well put
@@DanielWatches :D Thx
I always saw it as her just being a tomboy and a feminine girl as she cares about how she looks and she’s not afraid to play an aggressive, typically masculine, sport.
But that could work too! Being gender fluid, or discovering her gender.
