    One of my favorite diesel builds so far because no one really builds this year as much as other years. Can’t wait to see it complete.

    Howdy howdy guys, Johnny from laguna hills here. Question : my guess is that's a general use band saw maybe even a wood type machine that's been altered over to cut steel via tossing a steel cutting band Saw blade on it. I've been told it's possible to slow a machine down by changing wheel sizes as well. Curious to what that set is ur cutting on although it's a tad quick, it's cutting sweet as pie.. Lol 🇺🇸 emmm pie

    • @TheChristianEwing

      It’s a wood/metal bandsaw with variable speed motor on it, I just flip a knob and it will slow down for metal or can speed up for wood 👍🏼 not sure on what the speed is set at though

    Hey Christian, diggin this build. Got a question. How do you know how long to build the radius arms? Also how do you know where (how far back) to put the radius arm mounts? I have a 88 Bronco and want to build my own. Planning on a C&T bean from Solo and their 4” Deaver coils.

    A nice job but I have two queries first I was taught to put a chamfer on the tube end that the heim bung goes in, this way your weld is stronger as you can get more weld in with the penetration secondly should you not have drilled a drain hole at the axle so any water getting past the heim joint will run out, just a thought, I have had water do this.
    I love your builds and wish we had the desert to use then I would dig deep in the kitty and buy a truck and build a pre-runner but not possible in the UK.

    • @WingsWorldChannel
      @WingsWorldChannel  4 роки тому +1

      whats up dude! If you look at 5:27 in the video you can see before I welded the bung into the tube how big the chamfer was between the two peices. You are absolutely right about giving it enough room to penetrate, especially on this thick of material. Every bung we use from Kartek and for the most part ever one ive seen in general has a chamfer on it already so you dont need to on the tubing side. I chamfer all my tube joints as well so the bead profile lays down nicer when im welding them out. Its all in the details! haha, as far as the drain hole goes, im not worried about it, the heim and jam nut seal the end of the tube off water tight and ive never had an issue with it on our two other trucks setup like this. We dont mud/water bog these trucks either so they never are submerged in the first place. - Christian

    Badass work man. Question for you...I was considering swapping the steering links on my 97 CCLB4X4 OBS with all heim joints. Do heims ride as good as ball joints? Deciding whether to swap or just go with new ball joints...

    • @legodude19999
      @legodude19999 4 роки тому +1

      Heims have much less give and they are really noisy /clicky in some cases, unless you are 4Xing lots it's probably not worth the upgrade

    • @WingsWorldChannel
      @WingsWorldChannel  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks dude! You can go to a heim steering setup on the truck, which will make it more rigid than the balljoints are. There is no "ride" difference per say just the deflection of the balljoints isnt there anymore and you dont have to worry about a balljoint coming apart on you. Keep in mind, the cost of maintance on heims is going to be more and the chances of a shop aligning it for you may go out the window depending on how you go about building the steering. If you decide to do it, do not cheap out on hiems either, run the FK brand "JMX" series heims or youll replacing them alot more often than you'd anticipate haha I have learned the hard way. - Christian

      Wings World Much appreciated Christian. Maybe I will start with the drag link and see how it works. I need some big heims for the traction bars I’m going to fab up, will def hit your guy @ Kartek. I do have something I’d like to talk with you about. It’s about a truck but it’s a weird situation I wanted to chat with you about since you’re down in SD. Is there a way to contact you at your convenience?

    How do you decide when and where you tig weld and when and where you mig weld. You look proficient at both. Thank you

    • @WingsWorldChannel
      @WingsWorldChannel  4 роки тому +4

      Thanks for the compliment dude, I will typically Mig stuff that is over 3/16" material just because the time spent double or triple passing a part is extremely time consuming, like in this case doing all this 1/4" to 1/4" stuff would take me forever to fully weld out haha! I enjoy tig welding, but I tend to do it on more accent/beauty oriented parts or in spots where a mig weld will interfere with clearance on other things - Christian

      Wings World I’ve been mig welding for years. Just picked up my first tig welder and started practicing. It is definitely a different skill set. I got a Lincoln square wave 175 pro. Nothing fancy but should do the job while I learn.

    Im pretty sure Positive caster is what give your steering the "return to center" action. Are you sure you caster wasnt 5.5deg positive from the factory? If the top of the beam leans toward the cab, that is considered positive. Negative caster would be toward the front of the truck.

  • @chris340912
    @chris340912 4 роки тому +1

    How did u go about calculating the length to extend the arm?

    • @TheChristianEwing
      @TheChristianEwing 4 роки тому +3

      There was no calculation really, you can make the radius arms as long as you’d like, actually the longer the better to an extent since the longer it is the less caster change you will see 👍🏼 but I just placed the radius arm mounts where I could and then set my wheel base, and that determined how long my radius arm was going to be
