  • The 90s was the decade of the minivan, a vehicle type that has been all but completely replaced by much more stylish and robust SUVs in the 21st century. The first minivan may have been launched in 1983, but it was over the next decade that car manufacturers around the world started to embrace these family-friendly models. The Pontiac Trans Sport, a General Motors minivan in production between 1990 and 1999, was nicknamed the dustbuster because of its unwanted resemblance to the household appliance.
In this video, we're going to take a look at the cars of the 1990s. From clunky cars to unreliable engines, these cars were disastrous in every way! If you're a 1990s car lover, then this video is for you! We'll take a look at some of the worst cars of the 1990s and why they sparked such public outcry. From Toyota Rav4s to Ford Escapes, these cars were terrible in just about every way!

Funny story about the Lumina. My grandfather’s neighbor bought one and he asked me what that car was. I said “It’s a Chevy Lumina,” which he responded “Hell, they’re all made out of aluminum these day!”

The Galante VR4 was sweet car. Never had one but been in them before. The ride feels luxurious but sporty. Very nice on less than perfect roads. Cars were smooth but snappy. If I had the chance to get a good deal on one of them, I wouldn't even hesitate.

I worked as a ski instructor in VT in the mid 90s and one of my colleagues had one of these that we commuted to the mountain in. It was fast, comfy, and with AWD and snow tires it was fantastic for these purposes. Loved it then, would have a clean one with a stick now. Def an underrated sleeper and early AWD sedan standout…

I have fond memories of the Geo Metro. Not because I owned one but a friend did and we used to get a few guys, pick it up and put it in odd places it was impossible to drive out of! 😆

    I had 2 Geo Metro’s.
I bought my first 1 new as a 94 year model. In only 2 years I put 210K miles on it. It was more reliable than my Honda.
Life changed for me in 96 so I bought another one. In 96 I bought my 2nd one. I drove it for 13 years but it had only 95K on it when I sold it.
ALL 3cyl Metro’s burned 1/2 a quart of oil between oil changes.
    They were extremely reliable.

The Geo Metro was not a Colt based car, ( Colt is a Mitsubishi actually ) but rather based on the Suzuki Swift.
Mitsubishi worked with Chrysler at the time and rebranded the Mitsubishi Colt, the Dodge Colt in America.
GM worked with Suzuki, and sold the Suzuki Swift, as the Geo Metro in America

The 1977 to 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark Vs were not the "dark days" for the Lincoln Division...in fact they are beautiful classics and sold in great volume. However, the Mark VIII was somewhat of a letdown after the better styled and better built 1984 to 1992 Mark VII LSC.

I had a 1991 Geo Metro with a stick shift, radio and a/c which worked great for almost 10 years and it did everything right for me especially being a hatchback and gas mileage was great. Sure, it wasn’t the fastest car on the road but it did ok for my every day trip to work and back home. Occasionally I would drive over 100 miles in my Geo Metro to visit my son and the return trip just as long with no problems what so ever. The car was easy to work on and I took really good care of it. To be honest it was one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Forget it, I don’t think so.

Regarding the Chevrolet Lumina, years ago when new I owned that "high performance model" mentioned at 10:23. It was a 1992 Lumina Z34. (google it- images). It was a 3.4L twin dual overhead cam engine and although I had the optional 4 speed auto transmission, a German made 5 speed manual transmission was standard. Surprisingly, I remember "racing" a black Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe and seeing it in my rear view mirror after a few seconds. But I loved my Lumina then. It was the top of the line and it had a really nice factory equipped Bose sound system with an 400 watt amplifier mounted under the back dash. Great car, great memories.

I loved the lines on the 1991 to 1993 mercury Capri and always wanted one. I got a 93 in 2000. It was a stick and I loved everything about it but the top. It wasn't had to work just a pain because of all the things you have to do to put it down and up. Would have loved to have kept it but after owning it for 7 years, it spent was beginning to spend as much time at the garage as I had it home waiting for nornal wear and tear replacement parts. I replaced it with a 05 maita. Still have it. Nothing against the maita but I still wish I had the Capri

My 1990 Chevy Lumina I bought new was the most dependable car I ever had. 336,000 Mi I put on it before I sold it to a co-worker who still drove it for another four or five years until his daughter totaled it. Mine was a blue metallic with blue interior four-door with a 3.1 L V6 and AC. Yes it was the grandpa golfing sedan but it was impossible to be seen by the cops when speeding because they would not believe it could go that fast LOL

Hmm.... I do not know about the list. I disagree about Lincoln Mark VIII( 8). I liked Mark VIII( 8). I do not agree with this one being on the list. I like the looks of it better than Mark VII(7). Interesting choices. The Lumina sold well too. It was replaced by the Impala at Chevrolet. I do appreciate the fact you stated clearly about this Lumina in the United States compared the Lumina sold outside the United States by Chevrolet which was a Holden Commodore. There was the Philippine Chevrolet Lumina which was a Buick Regal. Interesting choices. The Geo Metro was a great fuel sipper. That was the one good thing about this car.

  • @catjudo1

The Geo Metro wasn't a great car, but I had a friend who owned its twin, the Suzuki Swift GTi. That was a cool little car; it had little real power but the power to weight ratio was surprisingly good, meaning it was quicker than expected (though not really fast). Where it shined was in its handling. That little car with a tuned suspension and grippier tires could stick the corners better than almost anything else out there. He had it for a number of years, then wore it out and we lost touch.

I was stationed in Germany in the 90's for seven straight years. I became use to the cars that ran up and down the Autobahns. I lost track of most American type brands. However, due to the fact that my young family expanded and were growing up I found that I needed something larger than my POS Ford Escort. I was trying to get into a Chevy Lumina or Transport or better yet a Previa. I ended up buying a Plymouth Voyager in early '92. I loved the Transport but couldn't secure enough $$... The Voyager turned out to be a great car for my needs which took me to Spain a dozen times until I was stationed in Idaho then around the west. There I traded it for a 2000 Mazda MPV. Eleven years ago I was trying to buy another Minivan and ended up buying a Dodge Journey. No going back to Minivans.

I have a Chevy lumina. Four-door sedan I think it was a 1999. I don't remember. I still have it and stop driving it because I need replaced all everything on the front end and I plan to do so. This car gets 35 miles a gallon has plenty of pickup and go. That mentioned it gets 35 mi a gallon for four or five people in the car. You probably put six in there if you had some small people. I've known several people have had these over the years. They've been great cars. There's some years you don't want other years that work out good. Anyway I like to del Sol trouble is my head would stick out over the windshield and that little Mercury Capri or cougar whatever it's called a convertible. They have a following and they have a collective collector value. But what I've noticed we ought to be buying these up because what was it like back in the day is now drooled over and sought after! If you want some older examples. 1968 Chevy pickup. They used to make them look like to 72 Chevy pickups now they take to 72s and make them look like 68 simply by changing the front clip of the truck. Also 63 Impala. The 64 Impala was the heavenly saw after but no longer. And a 61 Chevy Parkwood station wagon hauled out of the field and it sells for $16,000! What are you getting into soon so maybe some of those minivans will be collectible in the future I don't see it. But nobody saw some of the collector value cars now back then. I found the episode interesting
