I'm a big fan of the Fox Body. I love how smooth, sleek, and muscular the late 80s and early 90s models look. That high output 302 put out amazing horsepower for its time. I love listening to the exhaust of a later years Fox Body 5.0 as the driver shifts gears. It's a fun car to take to the drag strip. I see so many tuned Fox Body Mustangs on drag racing videos. A nitrous Fox Body with a powerful small block is a car to really watch out for while drag racing. For the past 5 years or so, the Fox Body has been rising in value by considerable amounts and are starting to become more common in classic car auctions.
I remember when it came out in like 79 and it was futuristic like being given a symbol of the future and it looked soo cool. Then as the decade moved on the mustang had morphed and once again looked soo cool and perfect for the 90's
My number one dream car and I can still remember how it felt in 79 when it debuted. It was like the future is upon us (because we the people literally saw the 80's as the beginning of the new era) and so they decided to bring the car of the future out a little early. At the time it was almost mind blowing to see them.
I had a 86 LX 5.0 and drove it till 130,000 miles. The car had fueling problems and had the throttle body replaced at 80,0000 miles. In general a great car.
I remember driving a 79 Pace back in the day. I ended up buying an 82 GT in 1995. Sold it because there was a bolt to the water pump that broke off in the block and I did not want to mess with getting it out so I sold it to a co-work a year later. Mistake! THANKS FOR WATCHING!
The E7 heads combined with EFI changed the game back in the late 1980’s. The 225HP with 300ft lbs of low end torque with the 5pd. You could smoke the tires at will and the roughly 3,000 pound car let it compete and beat big block cars .
Back in the early 80s y had the pleasure to have the mustang @1:12. Exactly the same color, wheels and all the bells and whistles. A real gas hog. It was used only in the weekends and when no work was available. Beautiful car, and some one to drive with respect. Good old days.
I had a 1979 cobra. Bought it in early October 1978. It had the 2.3 turbo 4 cylinder engine. I had it for ten years till I got the new car itch. Probably the best fun car I’ve ever owned. Miss it
I'm in the UK, when I first saw the film Twins with Arnie, I just loved his red ford car. Later i learn't it was a foxbody mustang convertible. Also, again before I learn't what it was, I loved Vanilla Ice's car. What I am trying to say is, the convertible foxbody is the perfect convertible with or WITHOUT the mustang badge. I love it.
The Fox Body Mustangs are still an affordable way to get into a Pony Car. I had the opportunity to buy a 1985 Mustang SVO with the 2.3-liter turbo but passed on it. I regret it now because it would have been a fun car to drive as well as a great investment.
They're starting not to be that affordable it's their time considered Classics now and they are just skyrocketing in value you want a 93 Cobra forget it minimum 25k and the Cobra Rs are going for over 100k and the notchback are a lot more desirable than they ever were before
I always liked the 1987-1993 models. I think the best and most affordable time to buy one was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. At that time, they were just another used car that had depreciated to its lowest point. Now that they're over a quarter of a century old, and becoming popular, and with everything during the pandemic going up in price, Fox body Mustangs are not the bargain they once were.
I'm a proud early Fox platform Mustang owner. I currently own a 1983 GLX convertible with only 27,000 original miles. My previous Fox was a 1984 Turbo GT convertible. It had factory air conditioning, so your statement about a lack of air conditioning on Turbo GT models is incorrect. My first Fox platform Mustang was a 1980 Ghia hatchback. It was fully optioned and quite a head turner in the late 1990s. The Ghia was actually my favorite of all three.

I believe that the Fox platform was also used for the Fairline models of the same era. I also notice that many of the Fox Mustangs do not use the mustang image on the front of the car.
I like the fox bodies because they were their own cars, not relying on styling cues from the nameplates past. Retro styling cues have their place but companies can end up painting themselves into a corner. I understand the passion that someone can have for the past, but the fox body was a clean sheet design and we loved it.
My cousin was tired of her Z28 she had drove since getting her license ; she traded it in on a Red 1990 Mustang GT - 5 speed - It was a beautiful and fast car -
Had a '91 5-speed GT. Only complaint was as speed increased, handling disappeared. Once you got to 120 mph or better the thing floated like a Pontoon boat on a rough lake. HUGE handling difference between it and my '87 IROC 5.7.
I had an 84 Mustang convertible with a 302 5spd. It was white on white with red interior. It was one fast car. In 90, I traded it in on a Miata, (red, tan top and interior).
In 1990, after flying to Chicago for the auto show from Denver, at the Ford display, sat the 25th anniversary Mustang convertible in the gorgeous shade of metallic emerald green with the white leather bucket seat interior, my mom bought that at Courtesy Ford, she loved that car, who wouldn't, unfortunately it got stolen & totalled, my mom was heartbroken, amazingly, I have all the paperwork & window sticker for it, it wasn't until 2001 we were at Len Lyall Chevy in Aurora Colorado, we saw, test drove, & bought a used 94 Mustang GT convertible in white with a black leather interior, we had that until 2011, it got traded in at the Mercedes dealer in Delray Beach Florida for a 2000 Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas sedan, so I would say that both Mustangs were fun cars, just wish I could find another 25th anniversary version, that would be too cool!!!

You missed an important improvement in 1988. They changed the pedal arrangement so that toe and heel driving was possible. I waited a year so that I could toe and heel shift. You also missed the introduction of the horizontal rear shocks which greatly improved cornering on less than perfect roads.
I had an '89 LX 5.0 L Cabernet red fastback, 5 speed. The interesting part was on that year, the insurance company did not charge extra for engine size. I was paying under $1000 a year for a car that was rated by the car magazines of the day to be comparable performance to an IROC ! BTW I asked my insurance agent how much my insurance would be for an IROC...$5000+ !
I have an 89 GT convertible, 5 speed, Cabernet red, white top with white leather interior. It has 53,000 original miles. It is bone stock. I bought it brand new on April 4, 1989.

Just as the original Mustang was built on the Falcon chassis and shared many components, the Mustang II was based on the (horrors!!) Pinto, and shared many components. Same floor pan, same suspension, same brakes, same engines (except the V8), same trans and diff. The fox body platform was also used on the Fairmont. Lee Iacocca loved basing many cars on 1 platform. It really makes sense economically to design cars that way, but it should be noted that the current Mustang shares its platform with NOTHING! It is unique. In fact- it is the only car Ford makes! Maybe that is why it so good!
Nice that you mentioned the Coyote swap at the end (to keep the purists from crying), but there are far more people flipping the bird at the purists with their LS swaps. Hate it all you want, but there really isn't a more effective low-dollar strip solution than the LS/Fox combo.
Yessirrr....One thing that we found is that we can't please everyone. We add too much, not enough or miss something in our videos. It's ok....We love this hobby of ours and find it a joy when others tell their stories of the past. That's what the channel is all about.
I had an '87 Red GT Fox Body manual and a '85 Corvette at the same time. Both were fast! My only complaint with the Mustang was staring into the windshield wipers all the time. If Ford could have only hidden them better.
I don't see the point of putting a newer engine in these cars... it's going to give it a different feel that really belongs in a newer car. The original 5.0 has so much potential for more power if one wants it, where it's not difficult to get 600hp from it. We've had a '91 GT hatchback in Titanium Frost since it was new. It was in moth balls for about 13 years, but once it was brought out again, it was pretty much like we never stopped driving the car...it was just like I remembered it, though even better. Ours has appx another 100hp and improved springs and shocks which made both the handling better. As many have said, it's truly fun to drive, and has so much character and personality when driving or riding in one. With ours being in the family since new, it's a member of the family and not merely just a car.
Hey Octane, I'm looking for a fox body. What I really want is the 1982 Mustang GT with T-tops. A neighbor (who's parents had money) bought their son one. We were seniors in high school. You're wrong about the fox body Fox body lasted till 2004 just with a different body style here 94 to 2004 and it is changing body on it Fox body is a platform inside the engine requirement.
Had a 92 5 liter LX hatch with 2.73 highway gears, made a chick puke one time on I-95 approaching 130 mph, fortunately I was able to get it stopped in time for her to open the door and let it fly, which was a mean feat considering how bad the brakes sucked on these cars!, I have since graduated to fourth generation F bodies which are far and away a much better car!
My auto shop teacher in high school paid a student to steal his Escort and burn it in the woods. A couple weeks later he showed up driving a brand new 5.0 LX convertible. He didn't get much time to enjoy it because the kid he hired to steal the Escort blabbed to anyone that would listen.
More revisionist history, the Mustang II was not a failure it’s best year outsold every year from 1968-present. Also the 1979-82 running horse emblem was the EXACT same one on the Mustang II. It just got a new background behind it. The Mustang II engines carried over to 1979 with the same power outputs. The 2.3 Turbo was added. Nice try though.
1985 5.0 5 speed stock with 125 nos a maple grove in 86 1290 1296 with out the nos 1497 and it did not hook up BofA bros yes the seat went back just like the Chrysler laser
Had a 79 Ghia, 79 Pace car 302/4speed, 85 SHO,86 SHO, McClaren Capri Convertible, Saleen. The pace car was HORRIBLE build quality from day 1. Rebuilt it myself after 3 month of the dealer trying.

Never was a fan of the "Fox Body Mustang" . To me it just never "said Mustang". At first it look to me like a Chevy Caviler Ford cousin. I felt it never looked like a "muscle car or performance car" just a cheap "grocery getter".
I liked it. It's either you like the look or you don't. They definitely had better performance than the earlier 4 light mustang's. My 89 was faster than my buddies 85 by almost 2 car lengths in a drag race. That fuel injection with the taller rear gear helped alot.

I had two and had some of the best fun in both, one hardtop and one convertible. Loved those stangs.
I’ve been lucky enough to have owned four of these in my time. 79, 2 86s and a 93. Some of my best times were tied to these cars.

88 GT. 1 5/8 BBK shorties, offroad H, Flowmasters, aluminum drive shaft, air box replaced with K&N conical, 13 degrees of timing, 15" pony wheels, 3.55 gears. Nothing else. Stock heads, stock cam, stock intake. 13.1@106 mph. Speed density baby.

The earlier models look better with the 4 headlights.
The flat headlight assemblies of the newer models don't go well with the rest of the car.

You're wrong about the fox body Fox body lasted till 2004 just with a different body style here 94 to 2004 and it is changing body on it Fox body is a platform inside the engine requirement.

Had a 92 5 liter LX hatch with 2.73 highway gears, made a chick puke one time on I-95 approaching 130 mph, fortunately I was able to get it stopped in time for her to open the door and let it fly, which was a mean feat considering how bad the brakes sucked on these cars!, I have since graduated to fourth generation F bodies which are far and away a much better car!

My auto shop teacher in high school paid a student to steal his Escort and burn it in the woods. A couple weeks later he showed up driving a brand new 5.0 LX convertible. He didn't get much time to enjoy it because the kid he hired to steal the Escort blabbed to anyone that would listen.
More revisionist history, the Mustang II was not a failure it’s best year outsold every year from 1968-present. Also the 1979-82 running horse emblem was the EXACT same one on the Mustang II. It just got a new background behind it. The Mustang II engines carried over to 1979 with the same power outputs. The 2.3 Turbo was added. Nice try though.

1985 5.0 5 speed stock with 125 nos a maple grove in 86 1290 1296 with out the nos 1497 and it did not hook up BofA bros yes the seat went back just like the Chrysler laser

Had a 79 Ghia, 79 Pace car 302/4speed, 85 SHO,86 SHO, McClaren Capri Convertible, Saleen. The pace car was HORRIBLE build quality from day 1. Rebuilt it myself after 3 month of the dealer trying.

Never was a fan of the "Fox Body Mustang" . To me it just never "said Mustang". At first it look to me like a Chevy Caviler Ford cousin. I felt it never looked like a "muscle car or performance car" just a cheap "grocery getter".

87 the Mustang turned ugly.
I liked it. It's either you like the look or you don't. They definitely had better performance than the earlier 4 light mustang's. My 89 was faster than my buddies 85 by almost 2 car lengths in a drag race. That fuel injection with the taller rear gear helped alot.
