We love the Town Car. I myself am looking for a 1996 in white. I thought that car looked the best. Thank you for watching and your comment! That is what this channel is all about!
When Pontiacs were Pontiacs, our family had a 1948, 1954, 1958, and a 1963. I think that the last 20 years of them were a disgrace to the brand. The Aztek was just assinine.
What I like about the 1980's was the abundance of coupes and convertibles that will most likely never be seen again. Although I'm not particularly a Chrysler fan, I recognize that company was in the forefront bringing back the convertible, and shortly afterwards just about every manufacturer had at least one in their lineup, even Yugo. Today it's mostly cookie cutter SUV and crossovers on the dealer lots once looking past the forest of crew cab pickup trucks. I also give Chrysler credit for their going full on with 4 cylinder turbos for most of the 1980's. That engine configuration nearly disappearing in the 90's due to emission complications, but is again very popular today.
The first car I ever bought for myself was the Dodge version of the Chrysler LeBaron convertible. It was a 1985 model that I bought in almost new condition in 1990. I decided I needed a 4 door sedan in 1992 and traded it for a forgotten car of the 90s (and the worst car I’ve ever owned), a 1992 Pontiac LeMans sedan. The little 4 cylinder sedan that was a badge engineered Opal. It was a very German looking car which was about the only good thing I can say about. I traded it in 1994 for a new V-6 powered Dodge Shadow hatchback which was a much better car.
And I believe they had over 300 ft lb of torque! These numbers were very comparable to the Grand National and these were a much more modern and well put together car. And with the factory supercharger it wasn't hard to boost that power up pretty easily for cheap!
The station wagons are the best family cars ! Ford LTD has wood grain with seats facing each other . Dodge Caravan has three rows and a boxy appearance.
I owned a exp . Got great gas mileage 40 + mpg. You could lift the rear floor up turn it around and reinsert it as a seat back . I used to haul four people all the time, no seat belts but we didn't care about safety back then lol. Great car for a young person loved it. Only problem I had was the car was so small and lightweight that on two lane roads when a semi passed you it wanted to blow you off the road and would lift the windshield wiper off the window.
My uncle bought a Caddy Cimarron when they came out & YES it was a "Cavalier Caddy"..he had pretty good miles with it putting 100,000 miles on it before selling it in 1990
This was an interesting topic. I enjoyed the video. I was shocked at one car on the list the Lincoln Town Car. No one has forgotten the Lincoln Town Car. They miss it too. I agreed with the other choices. I liked the footage and what was shared. You could do a video on GM's downsizing efforts of the 1980's( 1985-1989) that were later upsized in the early 1990's. That is a series by itself and the fact that Ford/Lincoln and Chrysler cashed in on this too. This was a good and informative video.
My buddy had a few of them so ill never forget them. Maybe the mercury mark 7. Those where a golden find to get a ford 9in with discs..... I bought my dad a citation. It was brown and $200..... not much else to say lol. I was thinking the cars on the list might be different like a ford tempo, aerostar, mercury topaz or chevy spectrum.
I know. Who the hell came up with this list? The Town Car was loved until it was discontinued in 2011. The boxy Town Car from 1980-1990 was a huge seller at the time and is still a top collector model.
The Chrysler minivan is awesome some has wood grain , and leather seats . Seats can be removed for more cargo . My favorite minivan is Dodge caravan because it has three rows and can fit inside a garage .
Great video, with some great vintage commercials. Some really cool cars with the Mustang SVO & Pontiac 2+2 (great name BTW) being my two favorites. The Cimarron aka Cavalier is the absolute worst. 🤮
I had a Shelby GLH (Goes Like Hell) for a few months, bought it new off the lot. It was truly a fast little car and smoked just about everything, the problem was the torque steer. If you didn't have it pointed dead straight when you hit the gas it was absolutely going to shoot off in the direction it was pointed. When you tried to correct it the car would go full lock the other direction. I crashed it twice in two weeks. I think I paid $12k for it new and after about 2 months sold it for half. Good riddance.
I have no idea. There are at least 3 different mid 1980s Town Cars that were still being used in Massachusetts as of about 6 months ago. There’s another mid-1980s one at a funeral home near where I now live in South Carolina, and they also have a 2000s model one (both are hearses.)
As someone who is currently in a 1988 Lincoln Town Car nobody knows what this thing is (everyone thinks it’s older than it really is until they realize this signature series is optioned out better than most modern vehicles)
In 1984 I bought a brand new Mercury Capri RS. It had the 'bubble back window' hatchback. The person who originally ordered the car planned to race autocross. It had the 302ci V8 with a 650cfm Holley carb, dual exhaust, 5 speed and a performance 'chip'. The car engine dyno'ed at 305 HP instead of the 'normal' 175 HP. It was incredible fun and yet with the hatchback, my wife could have a blast driving to the grocer/running errands. It had no air conditioning or electric windows so it was very light weight. Another car that comes to mind was the 1983 Dodge/Plymouth Colt Turbo, nicknamed the "Pocket Rocket". It was very quick when that turbo kicked in!
I had two uncles that loaned me cars to use and I can say both the Ford EXP and Citation X11 are pure gems I wouldn’t mind having today! And that Lincoln Towncar was a dream to cruise in as a young man. Plush interior and lots of power in that boat! Awesome video, Brothers!
My sister in law had a 80 or 81 Skylark with the 2.8 in it. That damn car hauled ass for what it was!! I was really surprised the power that car made. With some suspension upgrades? Could have been fun to race like 24 hours of lemons.
Jeez. I've had a TA GTA, T-Bird SC, Cimarron (better than you'd think), GP 2+2 and SVO 'Stang (loved that car). Bought all of them used and except for the TA paid next to nothing.
Honestly, people give the J-car a bad name for seemingly no reason. I’ve owned my 84 Pontiac sunbird, turbo motor / 3-speed automatic, for a while now and drive it whenever I can. It handles and stops just fine and has a nice and loud turbo spool. Good car.
@@spod2998 My Cimarron got me to and from work and school every day in comfort. It had the V6 and was relatively quick. But to be honest the nicer interior wasn't worth the large premium over the other J-cars. I wouldn't have bought it new. But a few years old they were a rolling punch line and sold for next to nothing.
@@nucleargrizzly1776 And that "premium" is what I got to skip. I bought my Sunbird (a pretty much fully-loaded model, at that) for just $3,500 a couple years back. It needed some new stuff, like rear shocks, brakes needed TLC, sway-bars needed replacement, fluids changed. All in all, I'd say maybe 1.5k in repairs. In hindsight, the fully loaded tier-7 package would definitely not have been worth however much the previous owner paid, seeing the amount of money I had to put into preventative maintenance (which people didn't know about when the J-body was new), but for only 5k for a car this reliable, yet fun, I'd say the second-hand ones are worth it IF found in decent shape.
The 1981-1983 Imperials were good cars....But the fuel injection had it's problems.....When they were running good they got very good fuel mileage....I have an "83 model now, it's still fuel injected and it gets 28 mpg....The majority of them that you see now have been converted to carburetion.
The Lincoln Town Car was a nice ride and early models looked good. But, the Old Lady spoke wheels on the later model didn't look so hot. My brother had a used Pontiac Fiero. It had lots of problems.
Great video of some forgotten cars from the 80s. I have a few honorable mentions. 1. Merkur xr4ti/scorpio. 2. Chevrolet celebrity Eurosport. 3. After the merger, the AMC/Renault alliance/fuego. 4. Yugo. And 5. I know this is a truck but still wish they were made, the Jeep j-10 full size pickup. Somehow you can envision the big ram pickup with Jeep design features since it's the same company. And while I'm at it maybe more 1990 was the Dodge Dakota convertible trucks.
I had an 82 Chrysler Cordoba, T roof, magnesium wheels with big a$$ whitewalltires 318 5.2 litre, power everything including trunk, 14 interior lights and a horn that sounded like a freight train.....dark red with white pinstripes....I was #pimping 😂 It was essentially a " sportier" Chrysler Imperial.
This is a very interesting list. There are a few cars on this list though that I don't think are forgotten as I still see a lot of them around like the Trans Am, the Mustang & the Town Car!!! Happy Holidays!!! 🤶🎄⛄
Yeap, I had my mom's old '86 Lincoln Town Car, made it pretty, and fixed it all, then, didn't have a use for it so, it had to go! I miss it. Comfort driver!
citation was always like a mini Malibu to me. and I love some gbody Malibus, it can take any gm engine , but lighter than the caprices, I guess that's why people loved novas also. smaller than a Malibu, can take almost any engine. (big blocks I have yet to see in a nova). but I'm sure it's possible.. I don't think it's necessary tho. a good 383 or 400 would be perfect. or a LS /LT swap.
I used a 1980s Malibu Interceptor as a police officer one year. It was a monster. Also, because of the size, you couldn't transport, so it never smelled like a bathroom.
Being a child from the 80s I remember all these vehicles. I think I would have went with: 1989 Ford Taurus Aero GT wagon 1988 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport VR 1980 & 1981 Plymouth Arrow Pickup truck 1983 Plymouth Scamp pickup 1989 Chevy S10 Pickup with cameo package 1986 Buick Century Grand Sport Coupe 1980-1982 Ford Durango pickup truck 1980 & 1981 GMC Indy Trucks 1989 GMC Safari GT
1987 to 1989 Pontiac 6000 S/E 1988 to 1989 Pontiac Bonneville SSE 1989 Pontiac 6000 STE 1983 to 1984 Dodge 600 ES Sedan 1985 Plymouth Caravelle Sedan 1987 to 1988 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe 1987 to 1988 Buick Grand National Buick GNX
I KNOW OF TWO 80's TRANS AM'S STILL ON THE ROAD in my area...and they're both in MINT condition....the styling was contemporary enough to where it still looks good today.
Hi. In this video you mentioned about the Ford Thunderbird SC Super Coupe, and how it has a 3.8 Liter supercharged V8. It's not a 3.8 Liter supercharged V8. It's a 3.8 V6 that has a super charger.
The fiero? You mean the fire arrow! I picked up one of these in 1989 every bad laughed at me. Had a four-cylinder ran fine. I paid $500 for it. Is on the news how they catch on fire. They almost did not want to sell it to me because she's afraid it's going to burn me alive. I told her to make a good fire box for the front yard. I drove for a little bit. Parked at the end of my driveway, something I learned. Here comes This lady knocking on my door asking me how much I want it for the car. I said what that I said they catch on fire. She gave me $2,500 bucks for it. The car is 3 to 5 years old. I forgot an exactly what year it was but it was late 88 to mid 89 when I sold it
I had an ‘81 X11. Worst car I ever had. Bought it new and it was in the shop for most of the first three months I owned it. First, when the engine warmed up, the engine would stall and it could not be restarted for several hours. It would go through the same cycle of stalling and could not be started again. Finally the service manager took it out and it stalled in rush hour traffic. He was not amused. That issue was finally repaired. The service writer told me the issue was caused by “a cracked pole piece”. After that, I had trouble with the car overheating. When it would reach the point of boil over (according to the temperature gauge” the fuse for the interior cooling fan would blow, disabling the interior fan but the engine cooling fan would work great and the car would run at normal temperature. They never did get that fixed and fortunately I was in a position to trade it in on a used Dodge Charger. After having a new 78 Pontiac LeMans, a new 80 Grand LeMans and the 81 Citation. All being horrible cars, I finally had a car that ran and performed flawlessly. To this day, I’ve never bought another GM product and never will. I’ve had many New and used Chrysler vehicles over the years and have never had a problem.

@@zythr9999 I believe it had the same engine as a Pinto but a Pinto could out run it. So I chalk it up to the crappy FWD they used. Im not a fan of FWD anyway. Even the Turbo model they came out with was slower than shit LOL
I have yet to love another car like I loved my Thunderbird SC. But so help me, it must have been built at 5 o'clock on a Friday. It was the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned.
Car shows and museums always have the cool, the hot cars. I have never been wealthy, nor had disposable income to speak of, but have always thought it would be cool to have a collection of the less popular, more under the radar cars of history for show/museum because while the hot, hip and cool were show and go...these other cars were the daily drivers that allowed people to live their lives and achieve their dreams and raise their families. But no one has ever done anything like that, at least that I'm aware of and who knows if it would see enough traffic to pay for itself anyway. Only fake, flashy and showboating gets noticed in our society.
I never forgot the Citation X-11. My mom owned an underpowered, underwhelming 80. Bought it from a local dealer who was going to give it to his wife. Proof of the reason you never buy the 1st year of a car, or the first year of a car's new generation.
Great show but some cars really should not have been on this list. I have some fond memories on some models like the Chevrolet station wagons, Ford Thunderbird, Pontiac Firebirds / Fiero .
I wouldn’t say the SVO Mustang Fox Body is forgotten. As I’ve seen numerous examples where the car is appreciating in value. Some even more than sticker price, judging from inflation today. 👍 But speaking of forgotten 80s cars, my mom had a 1984 Toyota Celica, AKA the Supra MK2. It’s funny because I haven’t seen one on the road other than a small handful of times in the past 20 years. Not even in any video games that I can recall. It was fairly similar to the Toyota Corolla AE86 Trueno.
There were never large numbers of the MK2 Supra on the road. They're very nice cars, and if you can lay your hands on one that hasn't been thrashed or heavily modded, remain fairly desirable in collector circles. Keep an eye out - because there's two versions of the Supra, one with wheel arch flares, and one without - significantly different trim levels.
I’m glad you had a good experience. My X11 was the worst new car I ever bought. The next new car I bought was an ‘85 Chrysler Laser Turbo. I still have it.
Nobody that grew up as a teenager or older in the 80s would have forgot the Thunderbird SC. There was nothing else in the domestic category as well thought out an engineered as this car was. It was even available with a manual transmission and it definitely was faster then mentioned here. Many magazines and auto Publications reported 0 to 60 in the mid 6-second range with the manual . Still a very nice looking car but near impossible to find it seems
I grew up dreaming about most of these American sports cars and eventually did buy a Camaro and a Mustang. Now I see this performance tests and realize how slow these 80's cars were. My Hyundai Elantra will wipe the floor with all of them and do 0 to 60 in under 5.0 and do over 160mph from the factory. It will easily destroy them on a track as well.
aztek??? lmao that was not a mistake, @thumbnail the awd reincarnated dust buster, built on a gen 3 dust buster chassis, with a updated dust buster engine, so yea it counts..

It was good enough for the Lincoln lawyer.
Both the Continental and the Town Car need to be brought back. Lincoln should be selling cars. Every other luxury brand does.
Lincoln Town Car isn't forgotten.

The Merkur Scorpio is pretty forgotten.
Mercury Xr4ti in the US.

And while I'm at it maybe more 1990 was the Dodge Dakota convertible trucks.
The Isuzu Impulse
The 80's was before my time but I wouldn't mind having some of the 80's cars love the town car with 5.0
I have a 1988 TransAm GTA. I've had it since 1999. Great car
The Cadillac Cimmaron deserved to be forgotten.
I think most people remember the fiero
My 1986 IROC Z has a RARE 350/350 V8 FUEL INJECTED which was One of 500 produced by GM Chevy that year..
IROC was completely under rated.
International Race Of Champion IROC.
Love that Fiero, especially with the V-6!
The 80's is a dacade that all the domestic automakers still what to forget about. Allot of those cars (not all)in this video needed to be forgotten.
Maybe rich folks forgot these cars but they were legendary among poor folks!
Those fieros were everywhere too. What ruined them was the engine fires.
This is a very interesting list. There are a few cars on this list though that I don't think are forgotten as I still see a lot of them around like the Trans Am, the Mustang & the Town Car!!!
Happy Holidays!!! 🤶🎄⛄
Why is that azteka on the thumbnail?
that damn Capri is so gorgeous to me,
Yeap, I had my mom's old '86 Lincoln Town Car, made it pretty, and fixed it all, then, didn't have a use for it so, it had to go! I miss it. Comfort driver!
None of these cars are 'forgotten.'
citation was always like a mini Malibu to me. and I love some gbody Malibus, it can take any gm engine , but lighter than the caprices, I guess that's why people loved novas also. smaller than a Malibu, can take almost any engine.
I think I would have went with:
1989 Ford Taurus Aero GT wagon
1988 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport VR
1980 & 1981 Plymouth Arrow Pickup truck
1983 Plymouth Scamp pickup
1989 Chevy S10 Pickup with cameo package
1986 Buick Century Grand Sport Coupe
1980-1982 Ford Durango pickup truck
1980 & 1981 GMC Indy Trucks
1989 GMC Safari GT
1987 to 1989
Pontiac 6000 S/E
1988 to 1989
Pontiac Bonneville SSE
1989 Pontiac 6000 STE
1983 to 1984
Dodge 600 ES Sedan
1985
Plymouth Caravelle Sedan
1987 to 1988
Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe
1987 to 1988
Buick Grand National
Buick GNX
I owned a 1989 Thunderbird SC. GREAT car. That they shit on it in this video is wrong. It was well built, fast and comfortable.
I KNOW OF TWO 80's TRANS AM'S STILL ON THE ROAD in my area...and they're both in MINT condition....the styling was contemporary enough to where it still looks good today.
The Capri with a 5.8L would have been a hit.
I forgot an exactly what year it was but it was late 88 to mid 89 when I sold it
Nobody "forgot" the trans am. Those third gens were literally everywhere and one of the most popular cars of the decade
No Sunburu Brat?! Hahaha! A former roommate had a Fiero and my being tall I always felt like I needed to lie down on the sidewalk to get in it!

Good memories
The EXP would have been a decent little car if it would have had the SVO motor and RWD. FWD made it a dog.
Lol the engine did that
@@zythr9999 I believe it had the same engine as a Pinto but a Pinto could out run it. So I chalk it up to the crappy FWD they used. Im not a fan of FWD anyway.
Even the Turbo model they came out with was slower than shit LOL
The Town Car was a good luxury car.
Mistake of the 4 cylinder was the killer of it and the flight of the 5.0L
I have yet to love another car like I loved my Thunderbird SC. But so help me, it must have been built at 5 o'clock on a Friday. It was the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned.
Mechanics must have loved it too
Like this channel educational with a trip down memory lane
Should do one on the early 80s Chrysler limousine.
I had a Cimmaron and I loved it!!!
Ford EXP couldn't have had "outdated fwd" when Ford just switched their small cars over to fwd in 1979 😬
Ford Escort GT,Chevy Beretta GT
...used to have a '96 Lincoln Towncar, 4.6... super clean, and gave me many years of stewardship. One day I was broadsided...😮
WE ❤LOVE ❤YOUR ❤CHANNEL 😊
Does anyone remember the Merkur R4TI, Chevy Chevette or Mercury Topaz??
Haha, I owned two of those cars. An ‘87 Topaz and a 1989 Merkur XR4TI.
That’s a nice selection
All those cool cars I'm so bummed cars aren't made that way nowadays.
Great show but some cars really should not have been on this list. I have some fond memories on some models like the Chevrolet station wagons, Ford Thunderbird, Pontiac Firebirds / Fiero .
That Citation had muscle car looks? Really....come on. No
I wouldn’t say the SVO Mustang Fox Body is forgotten. As I’ve seen numerous examples where the car is appreciating in value. Some even more than sticker price, judging from inflation today. 👍
But speaking of forgotten 80s cars, my mom had a 1984 Toyota Celica, AKA the Supra MK2.
@@michelleshaw337 👍👍
i owned an 83 x11, it was a great car! the cowl induction 2.8 6cyl was quite snappy.
It was a horrible car in ‘81.
@@uncletoby- my 83 was a great car. i never had an 81, so i cant compare the two dif model years
I’m glad you had a good experience. My X11 was the worst new car I ever bought. The next new car I bought was an ‘85 Chrysler Laser Turbo. I still have it.
@@uncletoby- dude! i always wanted either that, or the dodge daytona! very cool hatch back
@@ralphharrison6622 I currently have 2 Lasers and 1 Daytona.
The most forgotten car I can say is forgotten is the Isuzu Impulse because a lot of people still don't know that Isuzu sold small cars in the US.
Didn't forget about any of them I remember all of them
Best 80s car was the olds cutlass
Yup, some real stinkers in there, especially the Chevy Citation, most recalled car in GM history and the critics were well justified in vilifying it!
The 83 and later models were pretty reliable.
Change the title to 80's cars that were under-appreciated and you'll get a thumbs up but no one forgot these cars
Gotta add the Subaru XT. But I'm biased lol
aztek??? lmao that was not a mistake, @thumbnail the awd reincarnated dust buster, built on a gen 3 dust buster chassis, with a updated dust buster engine, so yea it counts..
