Took my 8 year old lad on his first fishing trip today. Ended up on a small local stream. Plenty of tiny roach, chub and perch. I'll never forget the smile on his face. He's hooked for life now.
Takes me back to my childhood days cycling with basic tackle and some sandwiches and a bottle of pop to catch Perch, Roach and Gudgeon from a local beck. Great memories.
Small streams aren't just trainer streams. I find myself going back to them for their intimacy and simplicity. The famous American writer and painter Russell Chatham once wrote that fishing small streams for smaller fish can be a more enjoyable and perhaps purer type of fishing because one becomes less preoccupied with battling large fish, and more tuned into the river and just fishing. I think this was the best film you've made all year. Merry Christmas. And get well soon.
Agree with you entirely Jon . And what can be better than catching a truly wild fish in such beautiful natural surroundings ? Beats day ticket garden ponds any day ! .
I'm with you on the gudgeon. They are the cutest little fish we have and in the right light surprisingly colourful. Also, in my opinion, they are one of the best perch livebaits you can use, which might explain why most of the fish you caught were perch and gudgeon. In fact, a technique I used to use was to use a float set up with a size 8 hook and then whip a size 18 to the bend of the size 8. Then Id use a single red maggot on the 18 and in shallow water, twitch it back in slowly. You'd usually end up with a minnow or a gudgeon on the size 18, reel in, put the size 8 in its mouth and instant livebait, then cast to a deeper slack area beside the flow and the float would 9 times out of 10 literally disappear within a second or 2 of hitting the water. This is how I caught my pb perch of 2lb 12oz. Hope you guys had a lovely Christmas all the best for the new year and thanks again for another good video.
These are my absolute favourite type of video micro fishing there’s just something about it fishing tiny streams and things where you would otherwise think there’s no life in there
As an occasional angler with my son, lucky to have a small stream like these, with all species and chub that size, 5 min walk from my house, and I'm the only person I have seen ever fish it. It's all I need!
It's been almost 2 years since I started watching C&A videos and at this point I have watched all of them and never felt bored. Quit the opposite - they inspired me to come back again to fishing and help me relax after a busy week in the office. Continue with the good work, guys! Greetings from Bulgaria! Ivaylo PS: It's so disappointing not having the possibility to buy from your merchandise any more, but at least I get the 2021 calendar, which is still hanging on the wall! 😅
We’ve just bought a little house with a burn in the garden, this has massively lit my fire to catch my first little brownie from our garden. Lovely little vid mate.
I enjoyed watching that, thank you. A trip down Memory Lane remembering how many of my Generation began Angling. Back in the day a Fishing Trip didn't involve spending hours dozing in a bed-chair waiting for an alarm to tell you when to reel in. Even now if there's little activity it's quite normal for me to move 2 or 3 times a session.
Yes I much agree, I'm not into static fishing so much, unless I'm targeting something specific. It's not my favourite. I much prefer being able to carry everything I need! and feel able to move about freely from spot to spot :)
@@fishingtutorials Glad to hear it. I fish some Waters with very wet banks so I carry all my gear in two Gorilla Plastic Garden Buckets, easy to move to another Swim and no Furniture Removal Van required. Please continue the Fishing Tutorials if you can, I particularly like the laid-back style, it's like chatting with someone down the Pub!🤣
I've just started the drop shot method of fishing and its really refreshing. You find yourself so connected to the bites and mobile a little go here and there with what ever baits on the hook you like natural or plastics. Interesting vid as usual keep em coming.
Merry Christmas guys! Love small stream fishing, we have one near me that is far from it's height in the 80's and 90's (When 3oz Gudgeon were fairly common and there were huge shoals of Roach and Dace) but it still throws up some beauties on simple rigs and light tackle, including a 3lb Perch on the maggot 6 weeks ago
Hey guys back to watching your videos once again been without a phone for a while but nice to get back to watching your videos and catching up on your progress ☺️🙏stay blessed stay safe
Gudgeon the very fist fish I caught in Colderstone lake about 80yrs ago they were a beautiful little fish & we thought we were the Bees, I wonder if there are still any in the lake Knees. Cheers Tippo.
@@fishingtutorials no probs. May I ask.. I am going to coarse fishing after being a game angler. Looking to do something similar to what you were doing here. I was wondering what setup to get (rod and reel) any recommendations? Not got a big budget! Would decathlon be a good shout?
nice one guys. reminds me of my first few years fishing 50 odd years ago when my tackle box was a Golden Virginia tobacco tin. Fished a local stream that only had sticklebacks and some country park lakes where a day ticket was 5pence
This was great. I learned to fly fish on small ponds and creeks. My gear was a spinning rod with an old bait casting reel loaded with “fly line” (twine covered with line dressing), a length of monofilament for a leader and some panfish popping bugs. I learned to cast with this and the bluegills, pumpkinseeds and other sunfish didn’t care a bit. What fun. A year later I got a proper fly rod for Christmas. I still love the small creeks but now it’s for trout in Montana.
I use a telescopic rod for small streams, we have a tiny stream past the house with old mill ponds which make good habitat for the wild trout and bullheads which are the only species, the telescopic has also been good for some light tackle fishing inside Minehead harbour.
Nice job out there! That Brown Trout was a beauty. Always amazed in the differences in your fish species there across the pond from here in the states.
Its funny. In the state of Maryland, United States we have two bodies of water known as The Wye and Severn River. Makes sense based on history. Nice video by the way. I would love to go back to the UK again and actually do some micro fishing there.
I fish the river Lostock near where I live and it’s stuffed full of fish chub, roach, perch and barbel of two and a half pound.it’s exactly the same as the river you are fishing in your video. Merry Xmas to all three of you.
Loved this vid I’ve been doing a lot of small stream fishing this fall / winter using worms and maggots , I use one of my 6.6 / 7 ft ultra light / light action perch/tout rods with a size 500 reel and 6 lb braid and I find it works real well for using 2.4-3.6 gram floats , keep it up and hope you had a good Christmas guys!
Had some lovely little chub and a trout from a small burn last week my M8 had chub trout and dace they were in proper pristine condition nice few hours out.
i love fishing small places like this i love catching big carp and other stuff like big bream and chub the fight is so fun but at the same time i find it so boring waiting for the take, so i started actively fishing like stalking and moving around constantly and honestly i prefer it over the big game even though i love the fight of big stuff
Great video, my first time watching you and will definitely be back, looks like an old water management system, possibly for a mill or factory probably long gone.
I really need to find some local little rivers I can fish on... Another cracking video and always good to see the simpler side of things. Just like a lot of recently-returning anglers, the arms-race with tackle is hard to resist. Have a happy new year guys. :)
Merry Christmas carl alex and omi sorry if I spelt that wrong. rilly enjoy the vids helpful and inspiring 🥳👍🦃🐟🐠🐡. An update on the fish tank and koi would be epic.
Fished a lot of places like myself over the years, lucky to have a few stream and backwaters not far from me. For a smaller rod Preston Innovations make the Preston Monster X 7ft Wandzee also comes with 3 different tips.
When you said 9 ft I almost choked. For streams that size I usually use my 4.5 or 5.5 ft ultralight rods. Just easier through the bush and tight spaces. I've also found that Berkeley PowerBait pink worms work beautifully for any of these small species as well.
Carl or Alex did you sign the angling trust petition for cleaner rivers and to stop water authorities from dumping water waste in our streams and rivers ?
This is great, we have many little places like this in the Southern California mountains and streams that sometimes lead to the Pacific Ocean. (Different species of trout, Bass, etc.) Crack on 🤙🏾🤎💪🏾Y’all!!!
