  • A mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine leaves at least 22 people dead. Stephen King, who is a Maine native and lives nearby, shared his thoughts about it on X, formerly known as Twitter. He writes, 'The shootings occurred less than 50 miles from where I live. I went to high school in Lisbon. It’s the rapid-fire killing machines, people. This is madness in the name of freedom. Stop electing apologists for murder.'

The shooting is such a tragic event, and it's heartbreaking to see King talk about it, while it happened not too far away from where he lives. I'm thinking of the victims and their families and friends during this difficult time.

But to say that a writer like Stephen King, or any other writer for that matter, could not come up with such a story does not make sense -
Sadly this type of tragedy happens all the time in the United States of America, no need for fiction

This is just going to be a normal day in America. People will mourn in days and few weeks, it’s normal again.
This has been a problem. Those shooting incidents in public places such as mall, park and even in children’s school, america did not do anything to resolve this.
Instead, they would somehow justify the incident as a MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.
I just don’t understand why these kind of killing’s cannot be tag as being a terrorist.
Is it because of the skin colour? which is most of the criminal shooters are white?
Is it because, they are not muslims and they are white americans?
Or your system is really messed up and you don’t really care at all.

@@teressastuckey I agree that ultimately the shooter is to blame. BUT, Criminal Threatening is against the law in Maine and is punishable of over one year and less than three years, he should have been in jail awaiting a court case. Also, after being entered into care for a mental health incident he is legally a "prohibited person". No need for red flag laws, there are already plenty of safeguards in place, but the judicial system neglects to use them.

To you people who blame firearms I want you to know this. Also I want to point out that military/police members; former and current have way more access to firearms and are able to carry them alot more places than ordinary civilians. We dont need more gun laws or restrictions that's not what the issues are. The issue is mental illness.

The system failed on flagging this guy and taking the proper steps to stop this and it’s that same system saying they want our guns now for their colossal mess up. When a system can’t even handle the responsibility it had why give them more power? When that lunatic was at large, everyone I know was happy to have a gun in they’re house.

Ok so I’m gonna throw this out there, because gun grabbers are foaming at the mouth over this already. I live in Maine, less than 10 min from where this down. I knew these people, Bob Violette RIP was one of my sons bowling coaches. Maine is one the most heavily armed states to live in, we all have firearms be it handguns or long guns to bows etc… Maine is so safe we generally don’t need to carry, we were actually one of the safest states tho I’m sure this will skewer peoples minds on that. This man was mentally unstable and the mental health systems failure is what caused this, so for the victims please focus on the real issue here and let’s start getting people the real mental health care they need. I’m not saying this psycho is innocent by any means, there’s a special place in h**l for him, but I would rather focus on what could actually prevent this.

So sad and tragic! For Steven King to lay the blame on fire arms. What about the frame of mind and the movies Steven King has made. Maybe if movies didn’t glorify murder and savage killings then the minds of people watching wouldn’t think up something that can be seen on tv and the movies everyday.

Wow. That's some weapons grade bullshit you just spewed. Every country in the world has mental health issues and violent movies. The difference is when other countries had horrific mass shootings they banned guns. They still have mental health problems and violent movies but NO mass shootings. It's the guns, stupid.

The last 10+ Shooting were quickly forgotten after the revelation that the shooter was openly a Democrat.
The story is very very and I mean very juicy the first 24 - 48 Hrs. As more information arises typically 4-6 Days , the media slowly kills the story and the very same people who claim to care and to be good people in Social Media suddenly have amnesia problems and stay quiet. For example The last major shooting happened to be committed by a Trans Shooter who left a Manifesto. To this day the Police hasn't released the Trans Manifesto. Will The Media kill the story in 4-6 days? Well it depends if the shooter had Woke Intentions. All this is not meant to be an exaggeration.

Blame Trump and the Republicans for refusing to enact commonsense gun safety laws. Nobody needs an AR-15 Weapon of War with a 120 bullet clip.

Wait, you aren't going to blame the police department that was told by the shooters family that he was a threat? Your unhealthy hatred for someone that had nothing to do with this event whatsoever is completely irrational.

@autumnfragrancw - 😂why not blame you and your whining. That's as appropriate as blaming Trump. Don't be such a do-nothing-except-whine kinda' gal. You don't understand that most of the democrats don't approve of more gun control either. They just hide behind the few that do. You being ignorant won't solve this issue. You all h a t e Trump but you allow him to govern your thoughts.

Of course this becomes political. Thank god for the constitution and the 2A. Criminals don’t follow gun laws so it does not matter what laws are in place, a criminal will get a gun.

There's already more guns than people in the USA.
The idea that more guns would make the country more safe is a delusional one.
