Got my shovel today. and since I have a tomahawk target in my back yard I gave it a few throws and dinged up the handle pretty bad. So took that small one off, because I'm pretty sure its not hickory. Then I made a new handle from a oak dowel, using a belt sander to sand it down to fit, then hand sanded said handle to fit nicely. I also got rid of the cheap chinese screws and got some better ones. Made the handle a big longer, not it is really more useful as a Shovel to dig holes, and since it has a longer handle now, better for light duty chopping. I also have a very nice German folding shovel, dated 1966, but its very heavy. So when I go hiking next summer I have a new light weight shovel ti take with me.
101 uses, 102 if you use it to dig with...... Still will keep my folding ex army one though, not as sharp, but still pretty useful when camping, as it folds in half. Just does not have the sharp edges, though I guess 20 minutes with a grinder and stone would fix that quickly enough.
Hi guy don't know I love my 1965 army shovel with pick you know the very same shovel they carried in nam even have the leather case to Carrie it on my belt it's in real good shape gave 20 dollar's for it I keep it in my 4X4 C😎😎L
**Quick side note** This actually isn't original, it's a 'replica', what I mean is that it's an exact copy from the soviet ones, same design, but like factory new.
I’ve had mine close to 10 years now with no regrets.

These shovels are effective at chopping things that now russians use it as an axe.

2:40 poor trees, what they did to you?
Looking forward to you comparing it to the Russian version.
