Honestly, I love holing up in fire departments, the garage type area at the first floor, rather cozy 2nd floor, spacious and variety of rooms to store things.

My first month I survived in police station in rosewood, even tho it was kinda hard to fortify it. I liked it mostly for a huge amount of space, armory and metal unbreakable fence that surrounds like 30-40% of the police station, so if you have enough building skills you can easily make a fortress out of it. (Sorry for bad English btw)

My favourite base so far was a stupidly lucky survivor home. So I spawned in Westpoint and the game assigned the whole foods in downtown as a survivor base, and all the other buildings attached (like the hardware store) got boarded up automatically. I love the Mansions at the North-West River of Louisville. High Fences around, big Garden, unlimited Water, almost every House has a Fireplace and some have a big Garage on Top.
Just up the Road is a Gas station and the Tiles between the Mansion are full of Trees and even count as Forest for Foraging and Trapping in the Middle of the City.

My absolute favorite base is the big two-floor house between the lake and river close to West point, it has literally everything you could want from a base while also being far enough from any big locations to not force you to deal with zombies. It has a perfect amount of rooms for all purposes, an easy water filtration system setup (since you are close to a river you have an infinite supply of water), a fireplace, a small dock for fishing, a big garage, a tall fence (you won't need it, but still), it's located next to a large forest, so you will never run out of wood, and it's just a short drive away from West point, so you won't be isolated from the rest of the map and will have a relatively easy time with your loot runs. I'm nearing the 2 months mark with it and already have quite literally everything to survive for years without needing to go for a loot run ever again.

I use the US store it. I cover up the opening as the rest is covered with a fence and there’s plenty of garages and parking spots for vehicles. Each garage can be a room with a different theme and you can even connect them with a sledgehammer. I have a vary cozy garage house. I use Pillows Random Spawns nowadays. 80% of the time, I spawn in just a jump, hop and skip away from Ready Prep- which has become my favorite base. It has a liquor store and warehouse right beside of it and lots of space to turn into room and even a garden after getting rid of the floor display.
If you destroy the metal column closest to the armory, the spot glitches and makes it so you're standing outside- which is perfect for grinding books lol.
I'd love base building to be improved. I once took over the gated community of 4 houses in Rosewood. I wanted to connect the upstairs and turn the space into different rooms. But I couldn't plumb the sinks I placed (to the house). Little annoying things like that keep me from building my own place.

My Favorite base location is the Abandoned Factory outside of Riverside. It offers a lot of room while being multiple floors. You have multiple large garages and a larger parking lot. You're spitting distance from a Gas Station, the River, and Riverside proper. It needs some work to clean it up but once you remove all the trash you have a lot of freedom to do a lot with the building. Sledgehammer out one of the Walls facing South or East on the 3rd floor and you gain access to the large rooftop for rooftop gardens or other needs. The 2nd floor stairway also hides a hidden area you can use for custom rooms
If you want to build your base from Scratch I HIGHLY recommend to gather wood first by raiding Lumber areas. It can be Warehouses with Lumber Piles. McCoy containers at Construction Sites. Even the actual McCoy lumber Yard. I use modded vehicles with modded trailers that have 1000 Capacity each and it still takes me several trips just loading them up with nothing but logs and planks. Ropes/Sheet Ropes also help a lot in shoving as much wood into your transports as you can via Log Bundles. Be it a wall that spans a whole town or a town from scratch these areas should let you get a good amount of it built before you have to pick up an Axe.

    • @george1036
      @george1036 Рік тому

Damn that factory looks sweet, I might try living there on my next run. Do you have any more tips to make it work short & long-term? Thank you for the recommendation!

    • @quillthefox4307
      @quillthefox4307 Рік тому

@@george1036 For short term in the Abandoned town where the Factory is there's a single nice house. In the Garage and Closet there's 3 Wire Traps. You can use these to start trapping Rabbits. Some of the gutted houses in the town also have useful furniture like Antique Ovens.
For long term on the otherside of the treeline to the West of the Factory is the main highway. If you cut a path to the trees and make a road to the Highway you can quickly go from your base to the road. This can help with things like making runs for gas just that much shorter as it's just 1 turn now to reach the fuel station rather than 3. I would also recommend visiting every house in the town due to Building Spawns. Just walk near the buildings to see inside each one. Make some noise to lure them out. Now you should be zombie free.

For me the ultimate base once you have end game loot is the Rosewood prison, it's in a decent location if you want to hang around rosewood and that sort of area, but the main attraction is that it's huge and fully walled off with an unbreakable perimeter fence aside from one entrance. So once you build layers of metal walls/fences, guard posts and other defenses to seal off that one entrance, you have an entire massive slice of the map that you can do whatever you want with. Inside the prison there's also tons of loot and tons of rooms for you to utilise, there's space for hundreds of cars, the only downside of the prison (and it's a pretty massive downside) is the amount of zombies before it's been cleared out.
It's got one of the highest concentrations of zombies in the game, so clearing it out to make a base is insanely difficult. However, if you get some decent loot, all you need to do is grind strength, fitness and axe wielding or one of the other melee weapon traits to pretty much the max, bring a ton of molotovs and a lighter, and bring a fully fueled, fully repaired car. You don't even need to bring guns really since if you use them on the massive horde you'll probably run out of ammo before making a noticeable impact on their numbers, so instead go to one of the police cars which almost always spawn in the prison's parking lot, activate the siren and lights to draw as many zombies as you can out of the prison, then when they're all clumped together try to burn them all and cut down as many as you can with melee. Also try to run down as many as you can with your car.
Once the horde has been cleared, wall off the main entrance as much as possible (it's only like 8 tiles wide) so zombies don't spawn inside the prison (also remember to barricade the 2 windows facing the outside world), head to the armory and grab some guns, then go through the prison killing all the remaining zombies. In total it takes like hours to clear it out and many more to dispose of the corpses, repair the damage and fortify the whole thing, but it's definitely worth it. Also it's way either with at least 2 people, especially since if you wall off the main entrance then leave it unattended while clearing out the building it usually gets broken.

I love building small shantytown’s on rooftops the most, but I usually choose a random modded town with the nomad rv mod and just set up wherever feels best. I’ve always wanted to set up in a motel but i did use one motel as a campsite in the bathroom with a sleeping bag on the ground because i lacked a gas mask and i would hide from the toxic fog until it cleared. Then i moved to a schoolbus and sat in there for a while. That was a fun run.

my favorite base is honestly the farmhouse in the furthest parts of the bottom right side of louisville (just inside the gate, down the highway into a small dirt road, turning at the tent campsite) It's a large house with a small storage shed out the side, "barbed wire" half fence surrounding a barn that i like to use to fill with cars and mechanical stuff once i'm high level enough, in louisville but completely silent 99% of the time minus the zombies that spawn in there and the occasional helicopter event

In my current playthrough, I’ve took up residence in the main Louisville Army Checkpoint, which is honestly pretty goated as a base location. Due to the impenetrable fences it’s easy to fortify, it’s got easy access to the river if you got a sledgehammer, and it’s gotta a fairly large amount of space on the road to park cars. Location isn’t too bad either, close enough to make a day trip to most important locations in Louisville without a huge zombie population to bother you.

Personally I like Rosewood fire station and Louisville small fire station (in single player only).
These have tall wired fence mostly surround them, a large garage for car nut (like me) to play with the cars safely, few windows to fortify and fire fighter equipment loot.
While being industrial, the second floor are cozy, with sleeping bunk and kitchen. That's everything you need in one package.

Personally I’m a rooftop dweller, I start in one building with all the stairs knocked down and a sheet rope to get up and down and then use woodworking to build bridges to the rooftops of other buildings. Then I can build farms and storage sites on the other rooftops out of reach of the masses.

I personally love any kind of buildings with apartments on a higher floor. In Muldraugh you have for example the Saloon & Restaurant called Smokeys. It's the last building in the north-east, directly next to the large warehouse a lot of people like as their base. It has a nice little apartment in the first (for second for Americans) floor with everything you could need and two doors between you and the outside. You can even destroy the stairs in the saloon/restaurant and break a wall in the apartment to get some extra space.
Another one in Muldraugh is that medical building, it also has a nice apartment in the first/second floor and is more central. Which means more stuff to loot around you, but also more zombie traffic.
But my current base is south of the gated community in the south-east of Riverside. The game kinda forced me to settle there. I was driving away from Riverside in a very broken car and my fuel nearly ran out and my character was super tired, so I took that little road in the hope of finding a place to stay the night and maybe find a car with gas to refuel. Didn't find a car and the car I used actually ran out of fuel after a few meters on that road. So I started to put all my loot in that house instead and used it as temporary base for a supply run back into Riverside for fuel. But then I kinda liked it and just stayed there.

Right now I'm at American Tire in Westpoint, which is on the outskirts of the city, near the train tracks. I like it because it has a very large interior space, the workshop has enough space for two vehicles, and I have decided that I will use up to the roof as part of the shelter, it even has a service station and the river nearby, without forgetting the large green area that have to plant The only drawback I have is that I'm taking a long time to create a log wall around it, since my character is a thief and he doesn't have enough physical condition so he gets tired quickly.

I like that set of apartments right above the bookstore in Rosewood. It has a single entrance leading up making it easy to keep safe from zombies until you can get a sledgehammer and destroy the stairs. You can connect it to the building next door to effectively double your living space. Every apartment there has a bathtub so you can have a ton of water reserved even when the water supply cuts off. I love the industrial train yard next to the main military checkpoint just south of Louisville. it is completely fortified with tall chain link fences on 3 sides, so it requires very little player built fencing to connect with the military checkpoint to secure it completely. 2 large industrial buildings connected with a catwalk, multiple garage doors and a train line running through for easy parking and/or driving through to unload your vans with trailers. the buildings are 4 stories tall with close to no preexisting floors on the upper levels, giving you tons of options to custimize the interior to your liking. and if that's not enough, there are 3 other medium sized industrial buildings and a medium office building on the same terrain, as well as some trains, and just plenty of terrain.
ponds and forests in your immediate neighbourhood for easy fishing and trapping
it is secluded enough to not be overrun by zombies (a little welcoming commitee around the office building at the entrance, close to none deeper inside the compound), but you can also be in the heart of Louisville for looting and some action in a heart beat.

It was very satisfying all the furniture was hand made a side from the duffle bags and mattress and radio. Did have to pick carpenter profession to do this easily. But it was totally worth it. I have endless water in the lake, fishing and foraging are the main thing feeding me, but crops are growing too. Real downside is no power so i cant stockpile alot of food, but its not hard to find especially when you get your foraging skill up.

Currently have a base in the golf club in the middle of louisville, plenty of trees to cut down, not too far from a water source / fishing spot and fenced off on two sides, in the center of louisville so a lot of loot nearby not too far away but not alot of buildings in that spot so the area is pretty quiet, only downside is the size and amount of work needed to wall the whole area off.
Edit: also two gas stations both just a street away and plenty of parking so running alot of cars and generators is no problem (currently have 6 generators with plenty of gas to spare). Also the hospital is just across the street for medical supplies. Also the building has a bar so plenty of liquor to make molotovs with to clear all the zombies nearby (if you're careful not to burn the forest and building down, best place to do this is the big parking lots)

I love to make bases in giant industrial buildings. Or just specialty buildings. I love to create something cool inside and turn a building into a selfmade home. For example I have lived in the rosewood fire station but I gave it overhaul. I revamped the kitchen upstairs and made it a bar/kitchen area. I turned that bedroom into a storage area for food and then where the pool table room I made my bedroom/chill room. Downstairs in the garage I put shelves and made it my mechanical area and the backrooms for storage. The downstairs chairs room I made a armory and the office room I turned into second bar/lounge area. I love using metal bars on the windows and I put up log walls around it. I also added a big roofed carpark next to the fire station where I kept all my half working cars for parts or just to upgrade but it doesnt fit in my garage. The whole backward I use for farm and I placed a lot of decoration....

I've grown to like setting up a base in the fishing store on the north-west corner of the map (right before the unfinished area added in B41 west of Riverside). It's very far off the beaten path, there is a gas station close by, next to the Ohio River and surrounded by forest. You're pretty much set. Also down the highway there is the rest stop with a gas station, small camping/hunting store and a gunstore. The abandoned factory and suburban houses are also an option to go looting in as it isn't too far.

Nice video, i am just gonna give more or less the location of my first long-term base, it is east of Muldraugh in the middle of a field and a road that has a wooden "arch" above it leads to the house

My first month base in PZ was that one house to the east of rosewood suburb that has a fence wich leads to the offices and baking shop
i barricaded once but my guy died so i made another character and i found the same house but barricaded already by the now zombie survivors inside lots of awesome loot so its kinda like my favorite place now
also to the southeast of the house is the fire station

my first base was the small somewhat isolated blue house northwest of westpoint. I was beginner and didn't realise that westpoint was the hardest spawn in the game so when I did go into town it was flooded with infected.

My fav is a DIY base near a lake so that I would always have a nearby food source and have allot of trees in the area and then I'd also have a mobile base for long scavenger runs and then I'd only go back home once all my inventory space is full

I built my own base on my longest characters who are like 27 months in and yeah the base building needs to be improved upon. I had the autostar trailers mod which let you move 700-1300 pounds of gear at a time spending on your traits and I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have it* especially considering I built my base right on the water. To clarify just how much of a pain it is, the first step just clearing a road through the max ingrown woods to the river to make my base which took like 2 weeks since I wanted it on the water near west point. I moved a TV, a couch, a sofa, a piano, a bed, a oven, 4 counters, combo washer/dryer, a dresser, a toilet, 2 sinks, and a ice cream freezer. This was 600 pounds worth of stuff, and the rest of the 700 was tile flooring/carpets. I used 40 boxes of nails just to build the foundation of the house, and another 70 on planking it. It then took 2 days to plaster all the walls. It was a 3 story monolith so it's worth it but there's problems besides the pound cost, mainly resources. One of the things I wanted to do was put a chain link fence around the perimeter, sounds easy enough I mean there's big chain link fences literally everywhere in Knox county. Nope, you can't pick up chain link fences. Ok how about crafting? Propane is so scarce you won't have enough propane to smelt the fence anyway. If you just want to chain 10 tiles you can do it, but even after looting every warehouse that isn't in Louisville I ran out of resources after 30 fences and ended up having to settle for log walls. To make my house/warehouse/weapon cache/mechanic shop I had to cut over 10k pounds worth of logs and went through 6 wood axes at 10 maint/axe skill. The amount of times I saw a item and went "oh that's looks cool let's pick it up" only to find out I can't was disappointingly high. The glass windows on mansions/grocery stores, the pews of churches, gym flooring to make a basketball court, basket ball goals, brick walls, black fencing, some posters in game, public restroom stalls, some of the toilets, all of them wouldn't let me pick them up..the satisfactions there but you also find yourself frustratingly often going "damn I can't do that?"

Be very careful with diy bases. They do not stop corpse sickness and zombies can damage your walls, with that said, you can plumb a diy house. What I often do is build a water shed outside of a pre built house. that way i can have clean water and have a solid base without having to worry about zombie cheesing you.

    My favorite category is firestation.
They have good loot for starters.
Later, when you sheet rope all around it and knock down stairs you have safe bedroom, kitchen, few sinks (in case water is out early).
Also descent amount of storage containers and lots o space to place more of them.
    And big garage.
And flat roof above garage for farm that is not accessible for zombies.

What always settle it for me is wood density. I am a builder end of story. And a few spots in the map have unbelievably dense wooded areas. Where every single tile is tree. Meaning i have to lug 0 planks to build my base. And by the time i have my basic walls up i still have about 100+ trees inside my house to cut.
