yeah I have a similar problem, downloaded a mod that ups the carry weight and bag capacity and it will just drop frames not a lot but like from 60 to 50 if I am stocked up. (tldr I hate PZs stupid time sink bullshit) I got it since well, the movement penalty on military bags is annoying and dumb, and I'm a working joe, not some youtuber with months of free time, so if a loot run takes like 10 hours, I mean shit man I gotta clock in at work in 4 hours and I have to go to the gym so it happens in 3 or I gotta play something else. I love PZ but the game is starting to get too fucking obsessed with realism and building mmo bullshit time sinks. I already HATED fishing since you just sit around hoping a fucking zombie doesn't spawn behind you while you are on your phone with the game at 4x speed to get some mid tier food source, and now these morons expect me to fucking play a mini game for a fucking small fish? FUCKING BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS! I would rather crank up loot spawns and be a traveler trying out guns and eating out of cans while sleeping in my car than sit around hoping I grow or catch enough food to die of boredom or starve in some zombie infested shit hole with a butter knife and a saucepan waiting for winter to claim me. To me the fun part is the zombie killing the farming and character self care shit is cute but I mean I would rather fish, take care of myself and farm irl at that point.

fun fact I figured out recently - you can put certain small containers, such as first aid kits, inside larger containers (like backpacks) and the encumbrance reduction stacks. characters can use items from inside these containers for any tasks as well, they just take a bit longer to unpack and repack
so rather than carrying all your first aid supplies in a fanny pack, you can put some of the ones that you'll be slowing down and stopping to use anyway, like suture needles and such, in something like that

Firm disagree on your understanding of guns.
If you want a pocket pistol, carry an M36 revolver and ammo in multiples of 5. It has a sound radius of 30 tiles and slightly better performance than an M9 at low stats due to slightly better base stats. The M9 should be used if you intend to be aggressive with guns, as it can rapidly magdump, but instead has a 50 tile range for sound. You will feel this difference in practice. A single round from the M36 will typically aggro a nearby building or two, which is easy to manage and ensures you do not pull more zombies than you can reasonably bring down with melee weapons. Or if you're already dealing with zombies, the M36 is unlikely to cause issues if you start shooting after backing up into an already cleared area. As someone who makes use of guns frequently and aggressively, understanding the sound profile and use case of every gun is important.

It's a lot better to play with mods, the quality of life ones are essential, and the gun and armor mods brings so much more fun and freedom when using guns. You can just attach a suppressor and boom. No more needing to choose which gun does the least amount of noise.

If I have 2 fanny packs 1 is for smoking and lighter and matches. + Around 20 nails and some medical pills (usually beta blockers) The second one is for spare bottle and can opener. I always carry a hammer on my right belt. For my bags I ALWAYS carry a extra bag. I also always carry 2 bandages and alcohol whipes and some spare weapon. This like the basic basic needs.... I carry any extra water in my bag and main inventory but I keep my fanny pack bottle for last. This means when I need to grab it I know I am low on water and probably head back or make a pit stop. (I also always pick high thirst so water goes fast) the 20 nails and hammer are just easy for boaring up a place quickly. Planks are somewhat easy to find but sometimes when you destroy a furnature you might not have enough nails. So around 20 will just always ensure I have enough if I need to board up something quickly... I also have in all my cars I drive some smokes and ligher/matches, can opener, empty gas can and water bottle in the glovebox. This makes it so I am always somewhat prepared when my car breaks down....

I tend to only bring sterilized bandages and a couple suture needles when it comes to medical supplies.
I don’t bring a can opener and I leave that at my base. I tend to eat before I go on runs so I don’t have to worry about eating when I am on a run.
I also bring a metal sheet, blow torch, propane tank and a welding mask so I can repair the hood of my car in order to avoid engine damage. I also like to have it if I plan leveling my metalwork skill by dismantling tubs and wrecked cars.
I leave the generator and battery charger at home and instead bring an extra battery. Saves you a lot of space and it’s quicker to replace a battery than to charge it.
I never bring guns with me unless I plan on using it to lure a horde away from an area by shooting far away and circling back to where I want to loot.

The best items to hang on your belt is the hunting knife and hand axe, both useful survival tools, and solid back-up weapons in the off- chance your main weapon breaks. The hatchet can chop trees, and the hunting knife can carve branches into spears. The knife can also filet any fish you catch (possibly with the spear?) One thing I will say is playing a lot of CDDA made me really think and plan ahead when going out on expeditions or loot runs. I would wear a pack and only carry a bottle of water, rags, and a melee weapon. finding berries and bugs along the way to wherever I was walking to and taking shelter in sheds or houses. Getting a vehicle later on I also pack light, only taking a tire iron, a Jack, and a screw driver and if possible a gas can. In the late game I’ll add a wrench and tire pump in case any car troubles hit me on the road. I always packed for no more than two or three days away from home so I learned quickly to travel light, I might have to start traveling with more equipment loved how the video was laid out keep up the good work!

If im not mistaken, having a first aid kit in your bag is a waste of space. You wont be able to access its contents without first equiping it in one of your hands, so you may as well just put whatevers in there in your bag. The only benefit i can think of is organizing your items, otherwise you are just adding the weight of the container with no use.

I can recommend that you put the generator on the passenger seat (only in a 4+ seat car) as it is crucial to be able to exit the car on the other side in a bad moment. The generator is weighing 40, and car seats are typically only 26 carry space, but it works anyway, and you get 1,5 the effect of the carry space of the seat.

You usually don't need it, but being stuck outside at night, especially during winter or a thunderstorm REALLY SUCKS if you don't have a good source of light and you'll be happy you brought it when it happens. Also a spare for my secondaries, usually a hunting kife and a handaxe or baton if I'm playing vanilla, or a billhook if I'm playing with Shark's melee weapons, because sometimes a fight will go on longer than you expected and I don't want to be forced to retreat because I'm out of weapons. Nice post. It's interesting to see how others think about the game. But honestly, there's a lot I do differently. Here are some thoughts:
    1. Guns are good (I play vanilla, btw). If you don't think so, I fear you're not going to survive winter. You can clear entire areas with either shotgun or, to a lesser extent, the M14 or M16 - just carry lots of ammo, like 150+ shells at a time (hint - start with a sawed-off JS-2000. It gives you 100% accuracy even with Aim level 1 for some reason). This leaves you free to ransack whatever you've just cleared at will and the noise is actually good as it activates every enemy in the area preventing any "sleeping" Zeds from hiding and getting the drop on you while you loot away. Carry the M9 (or 1911 or something with sound radius 50 or below) as a sidearm in your holster (as you correctly point out).
    2. Fanny packs are for old lady tourists to make sure everyone knows they are old lady tourists. Backpacks have significantly better weight reduction. Ditch the fanny packs, put your essentials in your main backpack, and carry a second backpack in your offhand to store loot while ransacking. Use a top notch one-handed melee weapon (eg machete) or your sidearm in your primary hand as you loot to take care of any remaining Zeds that you didn't blow away in your kill-crazy rampage. Oh yeah, don't forget to disassemble all digital watches in the piles of Zed corpses. You'll need the scrap electronics to fix your generators. Another key bonus to shotgunning your way through 100s of Zeds.
    3. Speaking of essentials, once you bite the bullet and decide to use your main backpack as your carryall, you can carry your shotgun, your ammo, your propane torch and mask (to grind metalworking), some food if you don't want to forage, and the items you had in your fanny packs with maybe a couple of tweaks (using the backpack now frees you up to add medical supplies like a plantain/garlic poultice, for instance).
    4. Don't use a pipe wrench as a weapon (except maybe on day one). But don't let it be ruined! Save it for plumbing your sink and washing machine etc when water goes out. Use a crowbar as your primary two-handed melee weapon (along with a machete as your primary one-handed). Kill all packs of Zeds under five with the crowbar to save ammo. Choose your loot sites carefully as ammo doesn't grow on trees, but once you pick a site, blast away!
Use this strat if you want to survive years, not days or months. Happy hunting.

I play with a lot of mods.
I keep a hammer and screw driver on my belt. Propane torch and mask on my tactical belt. Meds/bandages in both fanny packs.
Water bottle or canteen attached to my upgraded military backpack. Flashlight attached to backpack unless I luck out and find a mining helmet with a light. Attached to the extra backpack slots, I'll carry a saw, scissors, wrench. In the backpack, I carry a salad or 2, can opener, bic pen and eraser, 2 ropes, 4 nails and ammo if I'm clearing an area.
On my back is either a rancher machete (preferred melee), shotgun (preferred firearms), fireaxe (tree chopping), or sledge (building busting). I'll wear a single holster with whatever, in addition to the shotgun, if I'm clearing areas.
In my vehicle, I carry non-perishable food if I'm traveling far. Extra meds, jack, lugwrench, tire pump.
I prefer flatbeds for clear cutting for lumber. I'll store lots of rope, and take out 8 at a time to store 3 4-log stacks a go. (I can carry 2 in an upgraded military backpack and I'll carry one in secondary). I also pick up the twigs and branches for fireplace kindling.
If I'm looting, I'll take a bus or RV with the interior stripped and about 15 storage crates, a bed, a fridge and a water cooler.
I take gas/gas containers only if I'm venturing far. I'll add a propane tank if I'm looting far.
I like spawning in Louisville and I'll immediately head to the Military prepper store for all my needs.
I start a game as a burglar with the Lockpick mod- so, I also carry lockpicks in my main inventory.
I'm also a wuss, so I start the game with 40 skill points and a crutch which I convert to melee :D
I add Smoker, underweight, nutritionist, fast learner, outdoorsman, graceful, and one of the strongs (I'll check next time I get in game).
After I reached 1000 hours in the game, I was done with the early game grind.
I also play with 2 hour days and my day starts at 5AM. If I spawn near a TV, I'll catch the fishing show at 5AM and then the cooking at the usual 6AM.
I also turn infection off and have respawn enabled. Once I die, though, I'm usually too disheartened to take advantage of the respawn and I just restart.
    I use extended helicopter events.

Crowbar to pop open barricaded windows
What I do NOT carry from those:
Lighter and matches, there is never a need to randomly make a fire and i don't use molotovs
Hammer and saw, i never have the need to disassemble anything at a random time
Axe and wrench for obvious reasons

though I agree mostly of what you stated, but as a person who has 300+ hrs this is what I disagree.
      1. Lighter or matches. Who's really gonna carry molotovs to the trip to the gas station?(I do) *BUT* this is the most essential item for smoker trait. and you'll never know what a lighter or matches can do for you in a pinch. For example, you can start a fire with a campfire kit to clear out a large hoard by luring them over it(obviously don't burn down all of Louisville) or you can burn corpses with gasoline but for the most part its for that sweet juicy 4 extra points.
      2. hammer and saw. either you 're bashing zombies heads or sawing logs, its always good to have both. when needed to board up windows, doors, etc. you can also take down boarded things with hammer as well but its probably better to have in a car. Good to always have one just in case.
      3. You don't need to carry a radio of sort to a loot run. just listen before you head out. that extra 1.5 encumbrance isn't needed.(cars also have radios)
      4. This is mostly just preference but I don't carry soap because you can just head back to base to clean up.
      Hope this helped

You don't need alcohol wipes if you use sterilized bandages and you don't need tweezers if you have a suture needle holder as they can also be used to remove lodged glass/bullets. Also, there's no reason to carry a needle and thread if you are carrying a couple suture needles. My first-aid fanny pack is always as follows: Painkillers, sleeping tablets, sterilized bandage x8, suture needle x2, suture needle holder, vitamins x2. Vitamins are very important when unable to find a bed or it isn't safe to sleep, they can completely get rid of a 'ridiculously tired' moodle. Being tired can easily get you killed.
Additional tips: Only use adhesive bandages as a last resort, they're terrible. There is no need for antibiotics if you have sterilized bandages or alcohol wipes. Alcohol wipes are really good if you don't have sterilized bandages. You can make sterilized bandages without rubbing alcohol/bourbon by placing ripped sheets/bandages in water and then boiling it.

This is true for vanilla solo however MOST public PVP-PVE severs run the “common sense mod”. Since common sense is so common when playing online ditch the can opener as a screwdriver works multi-purpose. Also a crowbar becomes a must have primary weapon/tool because it can pry open windows/doors/garages/cars without damaging them. Last but not least because flashlights can be placed on a belt it is always best to carry one, because when you need it and don’t have it you will wish you did.

    • @Megan-ii4gf
      @Megan-ii4gf Рік тому

Fanny packs are useful for keeping items seperate from your backpack, particularly items that you *do not* want to drop. The items I carry in my fanny packs are specifically chosen so that I, as a nomad, can survive just fine even if the bag on my back were to disappear completely. Without a car, and without a base. To that end my back fanny pack is always the exact same: scissors, needle, bowl, lighter, spoon, pancake mix, beef jerky/cereal/jam/peanut butter. With the remaining 0.1 space I'll throw in a juice box, teabag, gravy mix, sunflower seeds, or something like that depending on what's available, or what I find first.
My front fanny pack always varies depending on what exactly I'm doing, but normally that one acts as a tool belt. When I'm out killing it's my ammo pouch; when I'm building it holds my hammer, saw, and nails; and when I'm scouting or travelling it'll act as an extension to my essentials pouch.
To that end, I might carry baking soda, butter, flour, a baking tray/muffin tray/baking pan, cocoa powder, boullion cubes, etc. Otherwise I'll carry similar items but with an empty cooking pot and spare water bottle, for the purposes of extended travel.
The remaining 0.3 weight will be taken up by anything from pancake mix and beef jerky, to baking soda (if I'm carry flour - in which case I might also carry sugar, salt, and/or butter), to the few spare medical supplies I'll ever carry - painkillers or beta blockers.
Could also be I take a full bourbon bottle (with bourbon in it) and an empty cooking pot, and use the spare space for beef jerky, cereal, pancake mix, etc. There's plenty of crap you can throw in the front pouch since it's really just there to fill out your needs.

The tweezers are completely unnecessary. The suture needle holder acts as tweezers. Vitamins are useless. Taking the whole bottle gives you like 2 mins of extra energy. Suture needle might be slightly better, but I rarely get deep wounds. I would swap it for a second thread. Also I would carry 4 or 5 bandages, 2 water bottles (or 4 if you choose high thirst trait), a knife, two different colored pens, and a piece of paper for notes. Also, carrying both matches and a lighter just makes your inventory list longer.

Guns can be useful even at lower skills, at least as noisemakers. The D-E pistol weighs just 1.5 (0.51 when equipped) and the noise attracts zombies out to about 70 tiles (which is equal to rifles). Only the Magnum (which weighs 2.0 or 0.66 equipped) and shotguns are better noise-makers. As for when to use those noisemakers, you could for example start shooting in the west side of the mall, run out and around the building, and sneak into the east side instead. Most of the zomboids will be in the west so you can face fewer zomboids while you're looting. Alternatively, you can light a fire and start shooting to potentially incinerate a thousand zomboids over the course of a day.

This is good food for thought for new players, but I definitely don't agree that this gigantic list of stuff should be carried at all times. No, not by a long shot. It is good to organize things into certain kits for certain jobs and keep them at varying levels of accessibility, but you can get by on way, way less. It's also somewhat situational at least, and you left out a small amount of nails, which if a hammer is around somewhere is really powerful (as it enables you to always escape from an upper story of a building if caught there, but even that is situational--it's mostly for rapid basic fortification in the field with a few random planks you found).

This is why I love trailers. I keep those excursion supplies in the trunk, and reserve the trailer for loot runs. Inventory/bag is for stuff you might need immediately in an emergency. Glovebox/trunk is for stuff you might need right after the emergency. Everything else can wait until I get home.

I’d recommend a screwdriver incase you need to get passed a locked door easily

That's what I thought too but then I saw he has one in his first fanny pack

    For me it's:
Main gun on back, pistol on holster, melee on hands; screwdriver and flashlight on belt (I don't generally follow day/night cycle); every color of pen, 3 sterilized bandages, painkillers, beta blockers (claustrophobic), coffee, extra water bottle, ammo and scissors on fanny pack and bag. When I get a car I always have a generator on the passenger seat, a full medkit plus spare food on glovebox, and a full toolbag and gas can on the trunk.
Mods that actually help A LOT: rifle slings, swap it, tidy up meister, backpack upgrades (don't use as much because it trivializes a lot).
Also recently I've been playing with inventory tetris and it makes inventory mgmt a lot more fun and finding stuff is easier, sometimes. Sometimes not being able to organize by weight is somewhat annoying though.

I like to usually have my screwdriver on my belt for easy disassembling and still a bit of weight reduction. My second small weapon usually being a hammer backup weapon.

Yeah I'm screwdriver+hammer when it comes to my belt. I end up being the group carpenter during MP, and since I usually main a fireaxe I don't really need a 1H weapon.

Had no idea fanny packs were a thing, I've just been carrying that stuff on my person.

how do you have a axe and backpack on at the sametime

I actually avoid the organized trait, as it leads me to carry more than my character has the strength to handle.

I prefer to carry one beer bottle in my main inventory, because then the bourbon bottles in my pack benefit from encumbrance reduction.

Can opener seems unnecessary to me unless playing with rare loot or 10 years later.
