What always settle it for me is wood density. I am a builder end of story. And a few spots in the map have unbelievably dense wooded areas. Where every single tile is tree. Meaning i have to lug 0 planks to build my base. And by the time i have my basic walls up i still have about 100+ trees inside my house to cut.

Short blades are OP in the late game, mainly the ice pick and hunting knives

I'd call them apartments rather than motel rooms, but other than me being pedantic I too am a Westpoint lover, having started my very first run there over way back when I first started playing. After over 1180 hours of game time I still love the town...

I’m a loot goblin but the reason I loot so much is so that I can conquer knox county, my only mission is to eliminate every undead, that way I won’t die, also I use guns mainly to do this and I’ve started avoiding using fire, it feels cheap.

my friend took sunday driver bc he thought he wont be driving but when we looted a lot of stuff we had to bring( aka steal) another car. He regretted that decision lol

I went from a shooter to a woodsman survivalist. Also I stopped playing the meta way, of staying in one spot to max out the tv XP, I grabbed the essentials which is really just a hammer and a saw and ran out into the forest. At one point I went 10 in game days without needing anything from the town. And what killed me was going into to for a stupid fishing rod lol. I had everything else I need. Cabbage and carrot seeds I found while looting, and with just sheets I could make all the stone tools I could want. I was a little sad when I lost this character. Was the only one I ever leveled up spear so high and now I can’t play any other melee style.

For some reason i like to play a fat nutrionist park ranger spending the first week of his apocalypse slimming down to just very overweight while barricading himself indoors before attempting anything above looting the immediate neighbourhood. Its surprisingly fun.

I like that set of apartments right above the bookstore in Rosewood. It has a single entrance leading up making it easy to keep safe from zombies until you can get a sledgehammer and destroy the stairs. You can connect it to the building next door to effectively double your living space. Every apartment there has a bathtub so you can have a ton of water reserved even when the water supply cuts off. Then on top of all of that its right across the street from the grocery store making early game food a non issue.

when me and my friends play we got one guy who is a noob but improving, we got the dude who loves being a skill king (mostly construction, mechanical/electrical skills) and then you got me who is the best fighter in the group and usually is the one clearing buildings whilst not boosting any other skills (i'm kinda useless besides game knowledge or room clearing lol). We all should really be improving our skills cause if that one guy dies we are screwed for building defenses and fixing cars. So tip everyone should be improving their skills

I'm the homesteader. The homesteader is one who clears, squats/claims, and borders and barricades as many places as possible. The homesteader often chooses carpenter for an occupation and tends to max out the carpentry skill for building walls and gates to border off their base. Real talented homesteaders will choose metal worker instead and max out metal working. The homesteader chooses their base and their border for it carefully making sure not to border off to much or too little, making sure to claim a place that can be bordered with as little time, trouble and materials as possible and property that is worth bordering as much as possible. The homesteader loves planks and will either loot, disassemble or saw wood to get them for wall and gate building. Metal workers will act similarly for steel sheets. The homesteader will frantically at the very least barricade every exterior window on the first floor front and back completely if possible. The homesteader will cherish every door hinge and knob they can find to build double door gates. And finally the homesteader will always have some nails, a hammer and a saw on hand to build! Metal sheets, propane and torch and welding mask for the metal worker. Seriously guys, be a homesteader! I've completely bordered off the Riverside gated community which is so worth it! You can see how I did that on my playthrough. Clearing it and bordering it off was HARD though since I had to shotgun blast so many zombies but nicely enough with all the preexisting fence made it easier to border than starting from scratch! It's worth it! Though I'm still clearing out the houses!

As someone who started playing in west point (oops) i've had a tendency to base up in the school. Lots of rooftop real estate and plenty of spots to jump down so it's tricky to get yourself cornered before you've knocked out the stairs. I think only "calm before the storm" siege waves have managed to evict me and force me to head northwest for the night.

My friends invited me to play this game, none of them told me what to do they said learn by myself, and now I look like a clueless fool playing like its my first time playing Minecraft

Favorite base was the one i built by a isolated lake next to an abandonded campground. I had to post up in the abandonded campground until i got enough nails to build my own cabin. It was very satisfying all the furniture was hand made a side from the duffle bags and mattress and radio. Did have to pick carpenter profession to do this easily. But it was totally worth it. I have endless water in the lake, fishing and foraging are the main thing feeding me, but crops are growing too. Real downside is no power so i cant stockpile alot of food, but its not hard to find especially when you get your foraging skill up.

I am also a lootgoblin but I know when to leave loot. I do love having extra spare stuff but yeah. Also when I play I tend to base/fortify a giant industrial building somewhere remote. I put tons of storage and stuff in it so I can storage everything. I also love to collect furnature and those sort of things to build my base. I tend to make smaller safehouses/bases scattered everywhere and when I loot I bring all my supplies to the closest safehouse and then later on I just grab a giant truck or something big with trailor and visit all my smaller safehouses/stashes. But yeah I am that person who has like 10 jacks and lug. I usually place 1 set in each trunk of every car I use. Its just there for when I need it. I am always prepared and I like to save up lunch boxes or first aid boxes and just place like 3chips 2 water and some medial supplies like bandage sutcher needle and holder. I have like 10 of those kits ready and I just leave then everywhere. If I am ever in a emergency I can always use one of those I scatter across the towns.... But like I stated before I know when to stop and I can control myself. I rather like to clear out buildings/places and then take everything I want to a central spot and then later come back to grab it. I am not that person who has like 19 tins in his bag😂😂😂 but I am always somewhat overprepared haha

I only recently learned about project zomboid and I just NOW learned that my home and old elementary school actually exists in this game. Like you had our Caboose in your profile picture and this is so weird seeing my home in project zomboid of all things man 😭

I'm a looter and I have yet to die from attempting to loot a high risk location. If you steal every canned item from the houses your inventory will be filled up. and your second bag too. As for not using most of it, that's true for clothing and tool items. But only because there are duplicates of everything in case I die and start a new char. I think I have like 200 wooden crates. only 20 of them or so are packed full of loot.

My favorite places are gated communities like the one in East side of Riverside. Mostly fenced off, garage, big backyard, two floors, nicely furnished. My favorite is the one on the most south row, second from the left.

there is a raido stadion in the forst next to the golf course love it there almost fully walled and there are 2 water countainers with 250 units of water each so you can take your time getting water collecters if you wanna it is an awsome place

I love to make bases in giant industrial buildings. Or just specialty buildings. I love to create something cool inside and turn a building into a selfmade home. For example I have lived in the rosewood fire station but I gave it overhaul. I revamped the kitchen upstairs and made it a bar/kitchen area. I turned that bedroom into a storage area for food and then where the pool table room I made my bedroom/chill room. Downstairs in the garage I put shelves and made it my mechanical area and the backrooms for storage. The downstairs chairs room I made a armory and the office room I turned into second bar/lounge area. I love using metal bars on the windows and I put up log walls around it. I also added a big roofed carpark next to the fire station where I kept all my half working cars for parts or just to upgrade but it doesnt fit in my garage. The whole backward I use for farm and I placed a lot of decoration....

Be very careful with diy bases. They do not stop corpse sickness and zombies can damage your walls, with that said, you can plumb a diy house. What I often do is build a water shed outside of a pre built house. that way i can have clean water and have a solid base without having to worry about zombie cheesing you.

My longest survival so far was sort of a Jack Reacher lifestyle -- walk, loot, kill, find a place to sleep, repeat. When I try to base-up, I seem to get killed looking for tools.

Definitely a skillet, with the weebo to hero build. One life. Goal, kill em all. Can't do that with some "here for a fun time not a long time" typical build.

The best base is the bunk directly north of the logging co. Stove, shelter, well and no zomboids

After 3,000 hours logged in game, i rarely find anything challenging.

Here's my step by step of Zomboid in 60 Seconds. 1. Add poop mod 2. Create Character 3. Die 4. Repeat 5. Cry 6. Gain a sudden burst of motivation out of no where, but not to play Project Zomboid, but to do something better with my life, more meaningful. Perhaps learning new skills? Maybe even making connections with colleagues, friends, and family, but I know whatever I do I should never go back to playing Project Zomboid because it is a drain on my life as a whole. My life has gotten so much better, but not just my mental state, my physical state too. I have so much more energy to do things I never could before. I'm DONE spamming Pog Champ in twitch chat for my favorite streamers, I'm DONE wasting my life away grinding Zomboid. I'M DONE. Thank you Carloon! I'm definitely that paranoid looter, i always pick traits that is suitable for loot runs and i agree, looting way too many is very hard to organize and even risking myself to narrow hallway places.
