Finally a Moonwatch that is in stock! Bulova vs Omega is like Ford vs Ferrari. Both had important rolls in moon travel and competition was fierce. I’m really surprised Bulova hasn’t hyped this up like Swatch and Omega. I just got the 45mm version and it’s atomic clock accurate
For navigation use the black face with white hands is used because it is easier to use. I like the black dial for ease of use especially in poor lighting conditions. I ordered the black dial version. I have an Omega Speedmaster Mark II from 1974. I was using as my navigation watch when I was flying air charters in rural areas of Canada. I still have this watch, and get it maintained by Omega service about every 5 years. I wear it once in a while. The black dial Bulova looks very much like the Omega Speedmaster. As for size, the size of this watch is better for practicality. I like this size.
Ive watched 2 videos and Im hooked, im just getting into watches after getting my Omega speedmaster moon. The way you speak about watches and the passion you show makes me happy to be apart of this community, Im already apart of the fragrance community and have been since I was 12 (Im 26) but I am enjoying his community and the people in it. Your finds are amazing Im surprised that no one has spoken about these gems. Great work I'm excited to see more videos.
I LOVE theis watch. I never pulled the trigger on the 45mm because I felt it was too big for my 7 inch wrist. Seeing it on your 6 1/2 inch wrist, I think it looks sharp, and I know it will be a perfect fit on my wrist. The design of the pushers, the "snoopy" blue color, with the unique design of the case, I knew it was a must have as soon as I saw it. My wife said this would make a great birthday gift for me, which means April will be a great month! Great video. You have great taste in watches.
i might have a chance of buying the 45mm with a nato strap , but i have a 7 inch wrist ..... shall i wear it? im so tempted to buy it tho im getting it for a way cheaper price .... , the 43 mm is a bit more pricey (im a student i dont have much money lol)
I saw this watch in the store for the first time, after only finding out about it on Thursday. Fell in love instantly and purchased it within 10 mins! I have a review pending
This was a great video. I own both the speed-master and the new blue/white lunar pilot. The Lunar pilot on the bracelet wears just as comfortable as the speed master. Awesome watches.
I bought the original for a couple hundred bucks. It was polished so I put it on a polished shark mesh bracelet. It’s my fanciest looking watch (according to my wife) regardless of it being on of my cheapest, lol. Love the story!
Great video as always. I like the direction Bulova are going with this, but 43mm x 50mm is still too big for many wrists. Yet, it’s not entirely about having a small wrist. Even if it technically fits their wrists, a lot of people still don’t want their watches to wear as prominently as this does. Hopefully this sells well enough for Bulova to consider a 40mm variant.
Love this model. I recently picked up both 43.5mm versions (black dial &"Snoopy" white dial). I've got a 6.5 - 6.75" wrist and they fit without issue and look quite normal. They wear similar to a "true" 42mm, and the tool watch aesthetic works well in normalizing the overall presentation on the wrist. No issues with the bracelet - its very well done, especially for the price point, but I really like the leather 'NATOs" they each come with. I think the leather straps compliment the overall look of the watch better - and they are extremely comfortable. Really nice for the money and I found several retail sites offering good discounts (I saved $200 and $300, respectively on each from MSRP).
The previous version can be found under $400 sometimes. I guess I'll wait for prices do drop a bit when the hype comes down. I've always admired this one from a far as well, but with a 6.5" wrist at 45mm was too much. Still at 43 with a 50mm lug to lug is big! I think that's my limit. These look like they wear flat, but your making me rethink this. 😅
Just bought the “Snoopy” version, since I also have a black Speedy Pro. The dial is amazing. Not only is the main area textured, but it has a lot of depth. At times it has a silver hue that looks great. Really well done. Price has also come down. Available now for under $600.
I think it should be called the Blue Moon. The beautiful blue finish and the textured white dial are stunning together. The depth of the watch makes one gaze at it, as someone might a full moon. I just ordered one a few days ago and I can hardly wait for it to show up.
Good review. I just picked up the blue and white one to go with my sapphire speedy as its a little different and compliments it nicely. I tried on the original but unfortunately it was MASSIVE. Definately worth trying the 43mm as this one just about sits nicely on my 6.75 inch wrist. It is fairly heavy on the bracelet but so far i haven't noticed it atall whilst wearing today on the leather strap. 👍
I like the look of the pushers. I actually think crowns and pushers are ugly warts on a watch. I love Seiko's with the crown at 4 because it integrates the crown into the case. These pushers do the same.
So do they wear there watch on the outside of the space suit or inside? And how did they use the watch to tell time if worn on the inside? Or did he just wear it for the ahits and giggles?
I love my 43. It is big but I have worn bigger. The Scott watch had a mechanical movement . I would love for Bulova to make one like that with thd 12 hr subdial.
I already have a couple of 45mm Lunar Pilots and will be buying the Snoopy 43mm version this week. In a world where so many watches look almost identical and have no history, I can't even imagine members of our community not having at least one version of this watch in their collection. Disclaimer : I'm a space aficionado and I was born in August 1971.
Hi great review I'm contemplating about purchasing this snoopy version sure people keep debating about the seize i understand the old variant being 45mm but hey the new 43mm being the authentic seize worn by Commander Dave Scott is true all the best from the UK.
I know for a pretty sure fact that I could pull off the 45mm version as I have a seiko with the same 45mm case width and 53mm lug to lug which honestly wears a little larger cause of how round it is, and it fits me pretty well. (red seiko 5 turtle) In saying that, I bought the 43mm version in black because I prefer the dimensions (and font) being as close to the actual prototype worn on the moon as possible, even lacking the date complication which I do get genuine use out of, with me never being able to remember the date. (I also like my 38mms despite owning a few 45mms so smaller tends to go better for my tastes. I could easily own both the black and blue/white versions though. I also think the mirrored case looks a hell of alot better than the blasted one, especially with regards to the bracelet. Another thing people need to keep in mind when talking about wanting an even smaller one, you would need to lose the 262khz np20 movement in order to shrink the case any further, its quite large and the pushers take up a good amount of room aswell. So don't hold your breath.
I will absolutely be getting this watch (probably in black) but even with 10% off, it is too expensive. I'll wait until ot comes down to around $500 or lower. The 45mm can be found around $425 new right now.
I love the lunar pilot but an annoyance is that having other 262khz watches the seconds hand isn’t smooth on the chronographs but the chronograph is smooth.
I want a moon watch for yeara...omega is too expensive but bulova was too big. Now...two color versions...honestly don't know if its just me but i dont like white dial watches but his with ita texture is kind of cool still black might be my choice ....but is it slightly boring?
I have the older LP on bracelet and a 7" wrist. It's big, but I still like it, although I don't wear it as a daily. Arguably it is my cheaper moonwatch, while I save up to get the Speedy Pro in future.
Excellent detailed review as always, and a pleasure to watch. I think this watch is now perfect in size - and true to the original that went to the Moon 👌😎 I also think this very accurate high beat quartz is a great choice for a chronograph. I do like that you get the choice of the original black and the new panda version. I have missed my 45mm version since I sold it about 5 years ago!! But I’m really pleased I can now buy a new improved version. I will also say that this size does look perfect on your own wrist Max. Wear in good health and enjoy! ⌚️💯👌😎
Awesome video I purchased this watch. My question is does the seconds hand only sweep around continously only for an hour? That's when mine stops. I don't know if it's the quartz battery is dying or that's how the seconds hand function normally
I got the original large one, without the date as that more closely approximated Scott's Lunar Pilot watch. Isn't Bulova considered a fashion brand, and not a luxury brand?
I have a Bulova chronograph that I was given 25 years ago that I wear as a contractor. I leave the mechanical watches at home. I swap watches daily. This I would have no problem and a quartz movement as well 😉👍
This Bulova is cool. On a side note, I love how there's alot of 'first watch to ....... on the moon'. I wonder what the first watch worn whilst peeing on the moon is.
Just got my Lunar Pilot today and I love it already the only thing that's got me confused is the way it runs, so for normal time telling (not timing anything/ using chrono function) is the small 6 o clock second sub dial the only thing moving or is it supposed to be both the 6 o clock sub dial and the actual chrono second hand as I see in your video here?? please help
To me, the Bulova 'moonwatch' always felt like a Porsche Design Orfina precursor rather than a Speedmaster deriviative. 43mm sadly is too big for me personally (41mm is my favoured limit), but damn if it's not a nice looking watch.
I own both and I never believed “the crystal just magically popped off” while he just so happened to have a bulova prototype on him….. that said the PVD lunar pilot is amazing and still gets plenty of wrist time
Great review 👍 The Lunar Pilot is an outstanding watch, but man alive... It wears like a damn *tea saucer!* Glad they put out a "smaller" one, but this one is still rather large for my taste & size (6.75" wrist, 38-41mm is my sweet spot)
It is a great watch. I just bought mine and it is a solid, well built watch. Super retro design and nice glove in pushers it is what you might expect to wear in the moon. A lot of value for your money. Now, I really like the precission of this caliber; so, I just missed why you rated it so low...anyway, great review.
I have it, I wouldn't have had it smaller. Why would you give it a 6 on the movement... There are only 3 other movements from GS, Citizen and Longines that beat this one's precision and they come on a much greater price. This watch, as a whole package, is very hard to beat, the sweeping chrono hand, the dial combo of textures and rised/sunken elements, the original pushers (that clicks, not like smartphone volume), the tachymeter scale under the crystal...
Just not feeling the aesthetic of this particular Moonwatch Max. Subdials are too small relative to the overall surface area of the dial face IMO. Wrong proportions. This ratio is more obscured on the monochrome all black version. Average wrist guys which I am can pull off a 43mm..I have 43's and even a bit bigger like a Tuna 300m and I am a little over 6' which helps...but this watch doesn't do it for me. Don't own the all black 45mm version either. If Bulova gets it right, I may add one. Love your personality and your perspective Max. Appreciate you.
There are lots of Space Watches. Omega. Bulova. Seiko. Casio. And a few lesser known Swiss brands plus at least two Russian brands. Between Mecury, Gemini, Skylab, the Shuttle, Soyuz, Mir, etc. and many more missions. Now with Bezos and Musk probably a dozen more watches joining the game. This is one of very few Quartz watches out there that has a little soul to it.
I have the 45mm no date polished LP. Picked it up for under 300. I can easily pull off the size(8" wrist) but it's a door frame basher and could never be a daily wearer. I also have a problem with the cheap movement . It's accurate alright but it's not a jeweled repairable movement like their Precisionist models. They should honour the heritage of the watch with a better quality movement.

Well my 40th birthday is in a week and I had to pull the trigger on this one. Got a great deal. Can’t wait to try it with different bands.
Finally! i'm getting it and as far as the size, it's the Lunar Pilot sized to the original specs. thank you for covering this iconic time piece.

Thanks for the review. I just ordered mine today. Your point on the sizing was on. This piece it true to the original Lunar Pilot.
Max, I loved that intro. Your videos are so top notch. Keep up the great work!
You might have just convinced me to get my hands on this watch. The lug to lug is a big factor and this watch may wear smaller than 50mm
