@@skibitibapi have a 7in wrist and the 45mm lunar pilot. On my wrist it's barely the right size. It still wears well but had my wrist been any smaller it would be oversized
Congratulations Anthony on the new Moon Watch from Bulova. And thankyou George for selling it to Anthony. If a watch doesn't get the wrist time we should consider moving it on to someone who will give it wrist time. Sometimes that decision can be difficult with lager collections. Oddly I have my 1863 sapphire sandwich speedy on my wrist today that I've not worn for some weeks with recent medical procedures and surgeries getting in the way. It's like meeting one of my friends again after quite some time.
A great video and congrats on the new acquisition! I have the no date Lunar Pilot as well as an original Bulova Astronaut similar to those that went to the edge of space in the A12 OXCART. For those of us of a certain age, the 1960s space race remains a pivotal time in our development as adults. Cheers, mates.
Another interesting fact is that the original was based on a Universal Geneve Space Compx. Bulova owned UG at the time and modified an existing watch for the Bulova prototype.
I had my non date version bead blasted to look more like the original. I love this watch. You are lucky as well in that the case back on your watch aligns perfectly. Mine is off a bit.
The pictures/video doesn’t quite do this piece justice…I had the same reaction when I received my Lunar Pilot…better than expected! The dial through that crystal just pops, it almost feels like you can reach in and touch the hands and indices…almost 3 demential if you will. I am not a Quartz fan..however, I made an exception for this watch.
Now you can buy the new 43.5mm Lunar Pilot, with the exact dimensions of the original, without date complication in a bracelet and extra leather strap with quick release pins.
The movement is NOT a tuning fork movement like what was in the capsules. It's quartz which is very very different. Just don't want anyone to get confused here.
I just bought a 43.5 Lunar Pilot for my b-day, then got suckered into getting a Meteorite version as well because the price was too good --- ha ha. Great watches and great quality for the price. Well done.
I own this watch I can even remember at Fort Bragg now Fort liberty purchasing this watch at the AAFES. I think I got it for 430 bucks and I wouldn’t take 1000 for it. I love it.
It's too big for me but if Bulova ever make the movement in this watch solar powered (surely a possible fix with all Citizen's expertise) I'd buy it anyway. Nothing like a private deal when both are happy. 😊
I have this watch (on bracelet) and I really do like it. However, there are two things that bother me. 1) the strap version and the bracelet version have different lug placement. So putting the bracelet version on a strap can be challenging. You really need to use curved lugs or the strap will rub against the case. 2) This watch would look much better with 22mm lugs instead of the 20mm that Bulova uses on almost everything. 20mm on a watch case this large just looks unbalanced.
This high frequency Bulova movement has about as much to do with the Accutron movements of the 60s as any other quartz watch today..... Not a lot. The cool thing about the high-frequency quartz is that it is insanely accurate, even for a quartz movement. Accutron was a tuning fork watch with a frequency of 360 Hz Most quartz watches have a frequency of 32,000 Hz The Bulova Lunar Pilot has a frequency of 262,000 Hz
Glad I wasn't the first to spot the error. The Accutron II or precisionist movements have almost nothing in common with the original tuning fork Accutron movements, such as the 214 or 218. it is Citizen that owns the branding these days, too? Other than being the rights holder, this is just a loose homage to the original with little beyond that. Still pretty cool of course.
I couldn’t disagree more with you. Bulova has a very long history of highly accurate and reliable movements, within some of the nicest designed timepieces, and a history of great service to the watchmaking industry and the United States as a whole. They’ve lost a bit of their appeal since they were bought by a huge conglomerate a long time ago, but they’re by no means overrated, or deserve any less respect/recognition than other big name watch brands. They’re by far one of the greatest watch brands in history, who’ve had an incredible impact on the industry.
@@jasons5726 - The problem Bulova have is they make some great watches but a lot of shit as well. Their watch designs also constantly change. They remind me of a lower cost Breitling, who also can't seem to find a good design and just stick with it. For example, the Precisionist mechanism is super interesting and the sweep is gorgeous...like a low cost Grand Seiko Spring Drive. However, they've discontinued the Precisionist dress watches despite the fact that they were really classy. I've got an early Precisionist dress watch with rose gold PVD case, brown dial and brown leather strap. Everyone who sees it comments about how nice it looks despite it being a relatively cheap watch (£280) and yet it obviously didn't sell in the numbers required and was thus discontinued. Something needs to change at Bulova. The Lunar pilot is gorgeous though particularly in 43mm form.
Two points: 1. Dave Scott was given this prototype to carry with him on his mission (where the Omega supposedly and conveniently malfunctioned). 2. The prototype was not even made by Bulova, but rather by Universal Geneve. There is a relative Worn and Wound piece about this. I love the Lunar Pilot, but this whole story is absolute 🐎💩
This is a high precision three pronged quartz movement. 262 kHz is 8 times more accurate than just any quartz movement. I’d take that accuracy over an inaccurate automatic anyday.
That not true. The most accurate movement is the. Otizen 1. The highest frequency time keeping on a watch is the spring drives. Also high frequency does not mean accuracy. The frequency needs to be stable as well.
@@jeremiahlee6335 never said it was the most accurate. Read the statement of mine more closely. I said the 262 khz three pronged quartz movement was more accurate than just any run of the mill quartz movement. Plus, I’d put that movement up against any automatic out there for one year without adjustment and see how many measure the same accuracy for the same price.
I hate to break it to you three but no watch ever made it to the moon. Neither did an astronaut or an American spaceship, and the Bulova watch is not the same watch as that one, it had a Lemania mechanical movement in it. That’s a mass produced cheap battery watch.
I gave my son this exact version for his 40th birthday and as an employee of JPL, he's ecstatic.
Do you think it would be too big on a 7" wrist? I want to buy one but I've had tough luck finding a dealer with one to try it on.

This was the watch that got me into collecting. Also first watch I sold, because the lug-to-lug is brutal.
I have a 7.5” wrist. It fits me like a glove.

The meteorite dial is such a great feature of the watch.
Each new version has been beautifully designed, making my choice difficult. Gotta get one!
I put mine on a beads of rice bracelet for summer and back on the NATO for the cold, cold winters. A really good watch!

what watch is George wearing?
George is wearing MQ-24S-4BEF .

They are as cheap and common as hens teeth? Why don't the block buy a brand new one . 360 and change.

A lot of seller's remorse there :)) Poor George
Pic another up for 360 and xhange
Bulova is making bank on this watch. More money that omegas making in their watch or most any watch company on a single watch.
