- What does silence mean to you? Is it something you fear and fill up with distractions? Or is it something you actively seek as an antidote to a stressful life?
Visiting silence can be an adventure, a life changing journey into peace and quiet. In silence we can hear our own thoughts. Silence speaks for the part of life that is beyond words. There is space, inner freedom and creativity. We find a place within us that is centered, a place of trust.
As the noisy demands of daily life make us shrink inside, in silence we expand. Don't underestimate the power of silence.

I spent 8 months in a contemplative convent here in Australia called "The Gathering Place". The head nun told me to sit in the garden until the silence spoke to me, which I did. Nature is what heals us - we just need to listen, observe & be still. Thank you for reminding us of this🌴🐒

Where can I find silence? Antarctica? Certainly here, in tropical Australia, the noise of birds and insects never stops. Well, hardly ever; during solar eclipse, the place became quite silent - but not for long.
Only when you’re silent can you hear.
I’ve live most of my life in quiet reflection. I like silence, I like being alone, not because I’m lonely but because I’m not afraid of being with myself. I like reflecting on life.

My spirit resonated when she said "Sometimes silence can be the best answer possible". I am a writer and an artist, I paint with words, metaphors and allegories of messages of hope, strength and inspiration for a world filled with troubled souls. Without several hours of silence in my day, each day, I cannot bring the words that are needed for that day. I have been writing for 50 years.....praying even more....knowing that every minute that we are here, we are either edifying or tearing down the lives of our brothers and sisters around us, and the living energy of our Mother Earth. It is imperative that we stop, rest. listen.....take care of your soul and spirit first.....then everything else will follow....gently.

I love silence. I love my home at the end of its garden because it is a quiet place where I feel protected from the hustle and bustle of modern living. I love my cats because they are quiet companions and yet ever so present around me. I have always loved silence as I feel that words do not always translate one's thoughts accurately. Sometimes when I have guests for tea, weather permitting, we sit in the garden exchanging our news but occasionally we will stop talking just to listen to the birds and the rustling trees, we need this silent to fully appreciate the magic of the present moment, words are not necessary, in fact, they would spoil everything. I suppose I also love silence because I love books and reading. I also practise meditation. I would say that silence is my most faithful ally and it makes my life pleasurable. I truly love my life and I suppose it is the secret of happiness.

Thanks for another lovely video. They always make me think about things and what's important in this noisy world that we live in. I personally love silence and occasional solitude and time to reflect on things as much as I love meaningful conversation with a friend. I think you can learn more when you actually listen to the silence or within a conversation. I despise noisy places and meaningless conversations. I used to think I was the one with the problem but I now realise how lucky I am that I like my own company and mostly like who I am.

It's easy to be silent when you live where she lives . When you have access to nature and open spaces . You can't be exactlg silent when you live in a very stressed household where you can't read for 5 mins in peace ...
I disagree. I've lived in busy places and in houses where there are lots of people. You can always walk somewhere even if it's by a river or in a park.

Strangely, when I tell people that I love waking up early, just because I love my silences, they are surprised. Even as a child, I loved to hide somewhere and just quietly read something in the silence.
It is quite difficult for me to wake up and then share a morning and breakfast with anyone who wishes to talk the whole time 😊
I remember telling my little girl “Honey, that much talking confuses mommy !” when she’d go on like a bulbul.
Today, we can laugh about that; she will turn 18.

A couple of days ago this is exactly what I was telling my friends. That people need noises around them, to distract themselves. Most of them can't stand silence. Or being alone. Or even more: being alone in silence. Because then they have to be alone with their own thoughts. And it can lead them to realizations that can be uncomfortable. So they prefer to numb their minds with social media.
I love being alone. I always loved it. Even as a child. And I always solo travelled as an adult. I think it's really important to be able to be alone and in silence. It helps us grow as a human being so much. Making peace with silence is a fundamental necessity.

Being along can heal you in many levels. It can give you the opportunity to experience what life is about.
But being lonely can hurt you.
Many times we can be with a lot of people and feel absolutely lonely ( disconnected ).
And other times we can be along and feel great. Being along can connect you with your self and with everything in the most amazing ways.

Very true. In 2018 my life changed dramatically and forcefully and now I struggle with Silence as my thoughts sometimes harrass me. And by listened to things on cellphone, radio etc, I can manage the harrassment. 😊😊

I have experienced absolute silence when I was walking in the mountains in Spain. It was deafening, that silence, it was beautiful because it showed that we seldom really experience silence. As a side effect I had no fear, it felt like that silence took away my fear. These videos inspire, they are poetry, the Afrikaans language, so close to my native language is closely tied to the landscape and to the hardships people endure. Diamonds are found in your earth, people in your videos are often gems, because they are real. Silence is the pause in the music, but it is also its own sound.
