Why the title “why gamble”? I do like this stockman configuration as the pen blade is more useful to me than the Spey blade typically found on a stockman. Thanks for sharing.

Just my Kenny Rogers theme...gamble/gambler, like in the description. 😃

I eat apples with my medium stockman chestnut jig.The blades have a patina on them that is dark grey, almost black. It makes the knife even more beautiful than it was new. I love my case.

I got mine new (old stock) at a hardware store. No one was buying it because it was "rusty and moldy" (actually a beautiful patina)... What a bargain!

I carry a Case Trapper, but the Stockman is more versatile. At 3 5/8" closed it is the perfect size for carrying in a pocket. The CV steel is so easy to sharpen, and it holds an edge plenty long enough. I have tactical, one hand opening pocket knives, but really enjoy carrying the same knife my grandfather carried. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Thank you for sharing your knife with us.

I like the square bolsters. They've rounded them on the medium stockmans recently it seems. I also like the more defined clip point. Beauty.

Amber Bone is my default handle and I have and love that pattern knife It was reviews like this that drew me to your channel and led me to recommend it to many others Your background info on older USA made knives is invaluable to newer and especially to younger collectors Thanks

I just got mine today for 59.99 in 2023 and that was a good deal in this day and time . In my opinion the Medium Stockman is the best all around knife Case makes .

Great Review! Case has been hit and miss over the years concerning quality control, but, you really got a lucky pick that is near perfect. This stockman from Case is a fine example of great American cutlery craftsmanship!

Stockman is my favorite pattern because of the three blade configuration. If you find one with a pen blade you always have a short handy blade to clean your. fingernails. The choice of blades for different purposes makes this pattern my favorite and the medium size of this particular stockman sure makes it handy. I also like modern folders but I grew up on slip joints.

I watched this twice now. I just ordered this same knife. I've been wanting to try Case's CV Steel; I hear good things about it. Plus, this Stockman has all the blades I want in a knife. I'm glad they have this with the pen blade, replacing the spey blade.
Great review! Thanks for sharing. :)

That blade offset is called "krink", by the way. Yeah, just about every stockman I have rubs. What the heck, it's a working knife!

Thank you. Wish I could have remembered that in the video. lol. I don't mind the blade rub much either. I love the stockman pattern.

ISLANDOUTDOORS1 I recently found an 807UH -- tiny little ”J.R.” model of the Schrade stockman. Cute!

Oh I like that one! It has the pen blade instead of the spey blade. Very nice knife!

I wish I remembered that when I did the video lol. I love the stockmans and don't mind a little blade rub for getting three blades. Thank you for the info!

@@WilliamParmley how does the 807UH compare to the 108OT I really like the 108OT even though the Chinese made Schrader knives don't have the best quality control.

I like case cv. Personally however I don’t think it always needs to be kept oiled. Dry it with your shirt when your done and it should be fine. I only oil mine if I’m not going to be using it for awhile or if it has been drenched in something. Also I live in a very wet and humid state, not in a desert.

Same here. Just dry you blades after use. 👍

I have the same model. My first Case. I like a patina after a few years. Not after a month of light usage . I will not be buying any more Case CV steel knifes..

This looks like a good example of a modern day Case; good transitions, crisp jigging, nice colours. Do the bone covers darken over the years at all?
I'm not a fan of Case's sizes for the Stockman. I prefer a standard to be 3 7/8 or 4". Yet, this one is very popular.
I enjoy your channel. It's been helpful while picking my 1st vintage Schrade (also a Stockman)

    • @ISLANDOUTDOORS1

They may darken over time but I haven't noticed that with mine yet.

I have a stockman two blade knife by Case and it was so good until I put it in my collection instead of using it. I want to buy another one, but get it to have for EDC. They make good knives and I also have their Hunter knife which is great also and in my collection.
