Led Zeppelin’s live version of this is amazing, it was JPJ’s dream sequence in their movie The Song Remains The Same. I believe it’s JPJ playing his synthesizer. NO Quarter means NO Mercy. It’s a great song, & yes different compared to their other songs.
@ there is one from London that’s 23 minutes, but I can’t remember if the one from MSG is the best. I know I’ve seen one that was exceptionally amazing, can’t remember which one.
Do more!! Greatest most diverse band in history!! That is a keyboard called a synth played by JPJ. Also those eerie wind sound is Jimmy using a Theramin!
Bonjour ! It is, as usual, John Paul Jones (the bassist) who here plays the electric piano (with phasing effect), at the same time he plays the bass with his feet and a bass pedalboard...
The first sound puzzling you is John Paul Jones on a mellotron which is a keyboard forerunner to a synthesiser. John Paul Jones could play any number of instruments including the bass. He also arranges and composes as part of the band.
No, this is not a Mellotron here, it's an electric piano with phasing effect. I'm keyboardist, I have a Mellotron and an electric piano, I know the difference.
This song is a studio Masterpiece song of an ancient messenger, among many, delivering prayers, tidings, and requests of humans to the gods or God and what troubles are met along the way of delivering!!! Excellent!!!
@@RidiculousRicI love both versions and I love both bands. Tool’s version, as you might expect, is MUCH heavier and gets into some marvelous guitar/ bass work. Zeppelin’s version has a more mysterious feel to me….more of a story-telling, mystical vibe
Tool does a good cover but nothing like this original. The more you listen, the more you will appreciate the original version. Zeppelin were masters at crossing genres, and it needs to be remembered this was early 70s, when shit like this had never existed.
EMS VCS3 synthesizer is the bubbly sound, played by John Paul Jones. Robert Plant's voice is being sung through a foam filter on the mike. Nothing special....just creative to give a psychedelic effect. Had to be creative back with manifesting certain sounds...no computers, auto-tunes...back in the 70's.
The version from The Song Remains the same has a great solo by both JPJ and by Page. But just the audio. If you watch the video, it will distract from the music as it’s part of the movie.
I'm subscribing so I don't miss your reaction to Tool's cover. I've always loved LZs 'No Quarter' and Tool doesn't disappoint. I won't say it's better, it's Tool's unique take.

@ I agree on the studio version. Possibly the Rain Song studio version used a Mellotron. He definitely used the Mellotron on tour. I only saw them live seven times between 1972 and 1977, but Mellotron’s were used (M400 I think, it’s been 50 years). He had a newer/different model for the 1977 tour, but I can’t remember its designation. Unrelated: When I saw them last, at the 2007 reunion concert In London, I took a cool picture of the set-list taped to a speaker cabinet behind JPJ, with him sitting at the keyboard.
@@RidiculousRic Maurice is correct, a Mellotron is not used on the studio version. It was used on tour between 1972 and 1977. At least it was used the seven times I saw them in concert during those years. It wasn’t used at the 2007 reunion concert in London. I had a pretty good angle to see John Paul Jones, sitting on his side of the stage right above him. Amazing to watch him play.
I LOVE this song.
It was SO GOOD, new tool- no quarter reaction will be out tomorrow🤟🏼
Thanks for the Led Zeppelin and my favorite song by them ❤
This one was SO GOOD, but then again I’ve never been let down by Zep!
You could almost say every zeppelin song isnt like the others.

@@mauricelechenault3814 absolutely phenomenal!
Tool stands in the shadow of Zeppelin ❤
Led Zeppelin paved the path for what we have now, true pioneers🙏🏼
You must be the last person on the planet who hasn’t heard No Quarter. Seriously.
He’s too young 😂
I wish I heard it sooner myself😂🤘🏼

I love the way you put that, it really is a masterpiece! Blew me away!
I fucking love No Quarter!!!
It was SO GOOD
I remembered listening to this while on piote. It was memorable.
I could only imagine haha✊🏼
Just remember it’s a Led Zeppelin original, & in my opinion better then Tools version.
Valid opinion for sure:)

Such amazing creativity, trend setters who paved the way for the music we have today! Definitely has the at psychedelic feeling that’s for sure🙏🏼
I think Plant's voice has been pushed through a flanger and the whole song was slowed by Page using varispeed.
IMHO the 'boingy' high pitched sound is an electric piano with a tremolo effect on it... 😇
@@strategicplanetxmuzik4384 thank you for the feedback on that:) haha
Very Good, Jimmy Page Guitars & John Paul Jones on Keys & the Boinger.
The live version is better. The guitar lead !

Keep on Rockn Ridiculous Rick... Synthesizer was used with Organ in the band, and twelve string guitar
It’s wild that a synthesizer did that, it was so good!
