I wanna comment on the two problems at the end that you said were deal breakers: the flies/maggots and the litter getting through the front crevice and collecting underneath the rotating drum. First, I can guarantee that the reason you are getting flies/maggots is because you have your LR4 by your front door. For as good as the LR4 is with odor control for us humans, it is not so for flies. They will detect the odor of cat waste like a shark and a drop of blood. Opening a front door makes it incredibly easy for them to get into your house and into the LR4 waste bin, since it is does not have an air-tight seal to the waste. I speak from experience on this because I used to struggle with flies/maggots as well when I still had regular litter boxes and a litter pail called the 'Litter Champ'. I would find fly eggs and maggots (barf) in the Litter Champ all the time. The problem was that I had the litter boxes and the Litter Champ right by an open window, and even though the window was screened, these little flies still managed to get in. I started to close the window and problem solved. My suggestion to you is that you move your LR4 to another location in your house that has less exposure to the outside.
Regarding the litter getting through the front crevice, which front fence came with your unit? Whisker redesigned the front fence to be bigger and sloped inward so that it covers the front crevice, preventing urine/litter leaks. If you got the older smaller fence, contact Whisker and ask them to send you the updated fence. I believe they are sending them for free. If you got the updated fence but aren't using it, well I suggest you do start using it to address the litter leaking issue you are experiencing.

I’ve been using litter robot since V3 and now I have V4. I mostly need it because I’m chronically ill and can’t always clean the litter. It works great and is easy to maintain. 10/10

I returned mine right before the 90 days. No regrets. The bags, the litter tracking, the cleaning, the cost is ridiculous for something you're literally throwing away. Also not being able to see your cats business is not a good thing. You can buy a scale and weigh your cat yourself lol. My cats eat a clean diet so poop is not stinky and it's solid. We switched to pine litter and a sifter box, super easy to clean. My cost for litter for 4 cats is now $4.00 month. Best decision.
I don't blame you for making the return at all. I feel like it's about a $200 product max. Never mind the aggressive marketing of all their extras.
The litter robot 4 has been great in my experience, I watched plenty of videos on the deep cleaning, so I am a little more careful with this. Thankfully- I was able to sum up the amount of money easily out of my savings, but I also have a backup litter box in case my litter robot 4 shuts down :)
I am huge on cleaning, but I don’t have to much free time, so the litter robot is good for my lifestyle.

I don’t have the Litter Robot 4 brand, but an off brand automatic litter pan robot. I have noticed some of the same things you’ve mentioned about the Litter Robot with the off brand that I have, such as litter getting past the drum and into where the motor is. I have a dedicated small shop vac just specifically for litter when I had just a regular box, so I’ve just been using that same one to get the litter from under the drum. I think I paid $10 for it. The drum is also a pain to have to clean, so it’s nice to know that it’d be about the same for the brand one. The main thing that I was looking for with potentially getting the name brand Litter Robot was the weight monitoring. The one I have doesn’t really keep accurate weights of my cats, but I do have a scale I can use to weight them, it would just be easier to have the box do it. It does however, notify me when they use it which is nice. I think I’ll hold off getting the brand name and just stick with the off brand I have. Thank you for your review! It was very helpful.

Good review but I love mine. I have had it about three months. I’ve got four adult cats and two kittens. Everyone uses it no problem. Even the big fluffy one.

This was an interesting review. I suppose not all cats will like it but many people must like their products as they are still in business and continue to innovate their products. Expensive, yes. Time saver, also yes. No product will ever be perfect and everyone has to make their own decisions.

I thought about buying one , then read reviews and found people were not happy with it getting stuck upside down . I am not sure this would be good , I need a box that cleans and cats can use .
When it's good it's great. But the downsides just can't be justified in my opinion. I think if you're obsessive about cleaning it then you can have a better experience but I guess that would defeat the purpose. Thanks for watching! Like and subscribe!
I can't imagine paying this much money for something that ultimately does not seem to save me much time or effort. We recently started using scent absorbing "crystal" litter. Yea, you scoop the poop, but not the clumped urine. There seems to be absolutely no smell with this stuff. You just use the poop scoop to mix the litter up so the urine gets fully absorbed. It's very expensive, but a $30 bag has so far lasted a month for my one cat.

Gentle reminder: if you can't afford it don't buy it. Our three cats have been using Litter Robot 4 for a year and absolutely love it!!! Its so user-friendly and highly recommend.

I have the litter robot shield and the seam in the middle is a litter trap. I hope change that because it’s really disgusting and a huge oversight.
I’ve had so many issues with mine.
- random stoppage of cycling so my 4 cats end up not using the robot
- doesn’t recognize the bin is full so it keeps cycling and smearing poop or does the opposite, where it thinks it’s full and it only has barely any poo
- litter seems to always find its way into the machine from normally rotation
- the rotating dome stopping is nice but sometimes my cats go inside to poo mid rotation. Wish there was a better way to
Had to get a new base to fix a lot of my issues. So I might’ve had a dud
Overall I like the idea. It’s still one of the better ones but not without a ton of faults. My momma kitty has diabetes so using a regular litterbox is a nightmare when her pee solidifies slower and clumps at the bottom. This at least rotates to keep the size in check
I would like to see a litter robot 5 but they don't seem to care about fixing the issues people have.

I don't have any information of them saying that specifically. However it's been several years and if they wanted to fix the problems they could.
Im looking at the neokasa automatic litter box. Also for a non automatic one t he michu xxl is awesome.
At a glance, I think this litter box is probably better than the neakasa if you have to have an automatic box. The michu is cool but you don't need to spend that much to get a big litter box. Thanks for watching. I like and subscribe!

My friend got one of these because of so many good reviews, and she was regretful after she got a second, because that's when her first one started showing problems that such a pricetag shouldn't be presenting.
It was so expensive that she had to grind deliveries just to also be able to afford to pay for everything essential on top, along with the constant purchase of the litter.
This feels like a subscription based litter box and it's been ridiculous.
She won't buy these unless they're made from better material, with more intelligent design, and no repeat purchases at the current cost.

Really useful info about the insect issue. I am considering it verses paying someone to come round every other day., which is expensive.
It's been out for a couple years and other people have made this complaint. I don't know why there isn't a litter robot five yet. I think the litter robot 3 was properly sealed but it had its own issues. It's a lot of money to not be right next to perfect. I really wanted to like this thing and I did for over 2 months. Luckily there's a 90-day return policy.

I have 3 litter robot 4's and with 9 cats and out to work all day these are a life saver and totally non negotiable. I agree that the litter robot 4 accessories are ridiculously expensive and £65 for a plastic step!
Maybe I am lucky but I have never needed to deep clean any of mine as the litter is changed so frequently and cleaned I have never had a need.
Visitors can't believe i have 9 cats as there is zero smell. Set the timer to 30min to allow maximum clumping. Maybe because I am in the UK but i have never had a fly problem or any form of insects. I agree the white is better than black as litter dust and black don't go. All my cats use it from 6lb to 22ib. It is so much better than litter robot 3 and all habe been totally reliable. I suppose it depends on your circumstances but for me they are worth every penny 🙂

Ehhh I love the litter robot 4. This guy sounds like he wants the Litter Robot to do impossible things. Wants it to be a literal robot and walk itself to the garbage can and empty itself. Complains about the app and security issues (all iOS apps are vulnerable). This is not a review, this is someone who just complains lol.

Thank you for this review! I’ve been putting off getting a litter robot 4 because , like you, I don’t have easily available electrical outlets. I also didn’t realize there could be WiFi vulnerabilities. Is that true even if you have a strong WiFi password? I appreciate knowing that a regular garbage bag will work. I have nine indoor cats. Based upon the amount I’m scooping a couple of times a day, I estimate I’d have to change bags 1-2 times a day, until I could afford multiple Litter Robots. Thanks again.
Actually those dirty litter trays hold quite a bit. My boyfriend has 6 cats and his needs to be changed every 2 - 3 days. I have one that is used exclusively by 7 cats & that one is every other day. But upstairs i have 1 that gets beat up by 20 cats. I change that one daily. It takes like 2 minutes to do it. Pull out the tray, remove the bag and i just slide a kitchen bag over the whole tray and then flatten it out and put the drawstring in the groove for the bags. It's so fast & painless! I'm also using a ton less litter. My cats LOVE having a basically constantly clean box and i love no longer having to dig for buried treasures anymore. It seals pretty good too! You won't realize how well until you open that litter drawer after a couple of days and you get a whiff of that smell you didn't even know was there. I very highly recommend them. I recommend using arm & Hammer clump and slide cat litter though. Because that stuff really slides off and doesn't get stuck to the inside of the robot and it seals against odors pretty good too
I don't think you would have to change bags twice a day because it can hold quite a bit in the bin. I only know as much as I said in the video about Wi-Fi though. I wouldn't want to say anything else without knowing for sure. I don't think that would be responsible. If you look in the comments, there's another person that has a bunch of cats but they don't have just one litter robot. If you do decide to buy, please use my links because I get a small commission.
