It's so incredible. Such self assured tempo and musicality. Been learning the fiddle coming from folk and classical guitar and hard getting the hang of leading with the bowing rhythm. Massively inspirational 👏
Thanks and good to hear youre fiddling! I like the cape breton style because it's simple in that it mainly uses seperate bows, but has a dead on steady rhythm. I learned fancy stuff at first but my rhythm and precision suffered for a long time. What type of fiddle music do you like? Graham Mackeznie and Tim Chaisson are some favorites for me at the moment
You've captured the Cape Breton style for sure Derek. I was brought up with this music 78 years ago in Cape Breton and I love hearing young people playing it so well. USA ?? Sounds like you were born in Mabou. Hope that you get to visit Celtic Colours in the future.
Cb fiddle is my favorite in the world. Thank you for that, I'm going to visit first thing when we can travel. I live in Port Angeles, WA we have a ferry to Victoria, BC, so I'm way out here. I am honored by your comment, thank you
Wonderful job on these tunes! I listen to them all the time on an Ashley MacIsaac album! Too hard for me, but maybe in a couple years : ) do you practice this kind of tune with a metronome?
Thanks! I have a bit and also play with the recording from my lesson. I've been learning strathspeys for a few months now, and they're super fun, whereas before they were impossible
Where can I find the sheet music for this? Every time I look for Kings Medley or King George IV it gives me like 20 tunes, none of which are this one 😅
Hey Derek, I was inspired by this year's Celtic Colours festival to try and tackle a few of these "King" tunes. I was listening to Ashley MacIsaac's set ua-cam.com/video/0Ge2d3vV9Yg/v-deo.html and am wondering if you have any info on the last tune "Traditional Reel"? Vague name doesn't help much, and it seems the tunes listed as "Traditional" on the Session don't seem to be this one. Any clues as to some sheet music? I just don't want to try this one by ear lol.
I loved his set. I'm definitely saving that show and close to the floor. I recognize the two tunes after the old kings reel, andrea beaton plays them alot but I don't know the names. The last tune that goes up high sounds like something hard Ashley plays or something he wrote. Are you learning the last one that goes up high or the other two?
@@derekstallman Thanks for the response. I've played Old King's for a while. I am coming back to King George IV after getting the low part. Now focusing on King's Reel and later George V. I might attempt the last high one at some pt, i was just curious if you knew anything about it. Thanks!

What's the name of the second tune? I used to play it but I can't remember the name of it now.
The Old King's reel and then the 3rd tune is the King's reel

On the session the last two versions posted by tate 8 years ago are almost exactly what I'm playing. Ty for watching!
