- Have you ever seen a rattle can paint job on a car and thought "how do I get this paint off?" In this video Matt goes over how to use Pre Painting Prep and Oil eater to remove some old black paint!
Pre Painting Prep: www.eastwood.c...
Oil Eater: www.eastwood.c...
The final step in surface paint preparation-Eastwood's PRE™ Paint Prep-just spray or wipe on, and wipe off!
Removes silicone, wax, polish, grease and dirt
Helps promote paint adhesion
Easy spray-on, wipe-off application
Available in aerosol, 30-oz., or gallon
Available in a Low-VOC formula for regulated areas
Proper surface preparation is one of the most important factors in helping you achieve a high-quality final finish. Our specially formulated PRE Paint Prep helps you prepare a surface for painting by removing dirt, wax, polish, grease, silicone, buffing compound, even road tar, ensuring a clean surface that's ready for final painting or powder-coating. Auto paint prep gets no easier!
PRE Painting Prep is very easy to use: just spray it on and wipe it off. Works better than lacquer thinner, which can leave a thin residue on the surface that could interfere with paint adhesion.
A "Low-VOC" PRE Painting Prep Formula, #11949Z, is available for shipment to California.
Not for sale or use in California. Eastwood Paints are formulated to meet National Rule VOC regulations, check with your local and state guidelines as some areas may have stricter regulations than others.

Eastwood has everything you need to do the job right when you're restoring a car, truck or motorcycle - from welders to paint and everything in between.
Are YOU an Eastwood Guy?
Dissolves organic and petroleum based grease and oil
Safe enough to use to clean kitchens and BBQ grills
Dilute 3:1 with water for use in parts washers
Dilute 25:1 for ultra-sonic cleaners or dip tanks
Pre-treat grease stains in laundry
Wash away oil spots in the driveway
1 gallon jug
Oil Eater cleaner and degreaser is specially formulated to be safer than old style petroleum based solvent cleaners. Its specially developed chemistry allows it to lower the surface tension of water for better cleaning, while its non-petroleum solvents dissolve oil based dirt and grime. The unique properties of Oil Eater keep the dirt and oil in suspension so they get rinsed away, instead of just being pushed to a different spot on the surface. The highly alkaline nature of Oil Eater breaks up organic and petroleum based oils. Works super for stains in the driveway, engine compartment degreasing, chassis cleaning, and grease stains on your laundry. Dilute it and use it in your Eastwood parts washer, ultrasonic cleaner or pressure washer too.
Previous owner spray painted the interior of my 1980 k20 aswell as the outside. I plan to repaint the outside anyways but the inside I want to keep as original as I can. This helped me out a lot I’ve tried sandpaper and brake clean but it never worked well. Just removed the original paint but steel wool works amazingly. Gonna try and get the spray paint off my doors tonight and maybe off my dash tomorrow and paint door panels and dash pad.
Great tips Matt.
Like the little A/G treasure on the door too.
Yeah, that is cool from its drag days.
great video! i totally was able to remove the crap rattle can black from a solid stock blue paint job on my suzuki motorcycle farings. great technique worked in seconds. thank you so much!
I use Eastwood Pre often. It's a good cleaner/degreaser. Just make sure to follow Eastwood suggestion for good work area ventilation.
WOW, I'm impressed! had no idea you could do this. Cool tip!
Hey, thank you! I'm restoring an old light fixture, & just found out it had original enamel on it. This LOOKS like it will work!
Matt, those cleaners and paint removers have some pretty tonic chemicals in them that will attack your skin, especially if you any cuts or cracks on your hands. Please, for everyone's sake use rubber cloves when using them.
I have a 76 f250 and it literally looks like the last owner used a paint roller and painted the truck. I can see the original paint from where the “new” paint is pealing off and the interior.
I have the exact same issue. 88 f150. Roller paint job. Did this method work for you? Any pics?
I need to try this to remove the rattle can camo paint job on my rare Bronco II. I’ll be ordering some of this!!!! Thanks!!!
Did it work or was it too weak/ time consuming??
Yeah I wanna know the same because I have the same paint job on mine (I didn’t do it). I tried goof off graffiti remover, somewhat works but would take too many cans.

Someone stole my motorcycle and rattlecan painted it, this saved me a lot in paint cost.
