What's cool about that, I think maybe the kid in that video is the same as "Can't Stop Loving You"? I'll never forget, my ex wife was pregnant with our daughter when this song came out. She's a VH fan also. She actually was up on stage twice with Sammy. He called her up at Walnut Creek Amphitheater in 1995 and then in early 2000's in Philly at Wells Fargo Center. All with a small cardboard song that simply said, "Can I give you a hug?". Therein is the difference between Sammy and Dave. What an astonishing influence VH had on my life. From being down at Cabo 7 times for Sammy's birthday to going to 9 shows in the disastrous reunion tour with Sammy. "Those were good times, DAMN GOOD TIMES". OH, Michael Anthony rocks. Got drunk with him in Cabo on one of Sammy's cruises right after R&R Hall of Fame. Thanks, Metal Dad! I have a feeling we would have hung out together at least in full bocephis mode back in the day.
I feel stupid sometimes ,,,missing a man I never knew , but who became such a memorable part of my life .. maybe , just maybe , that's the definition of immortality.... Thank you my friend
I feel the same. I cried after a man I never met. After two years of his passing, though, his presence is even more intensely felt thanks to his followers across the internet.
Same here dudes. EVH changed my life forever. 1st concert I ever seen was Fair Warning tour. I’m 57 now and still learning. I wept for a week over Eddie’s passing. So many lessons learned from him and not all musically related. And I never met him either. 🙏🏼 RIP Mr Edward Van Halen
That was awesome and thanks for the trip back in time..5150 to this day is one of the best...."Get up" was overlooked by many and is so heavy.....Love the whole album...Thanks again !!
I'm in awe of how well you can imitate such an impressively talented artist. It's just badass all-together. Thanks for sharing, and stay erupting on that guitar 😉
You are awesome Metal Dad!!! Dad here too!!! EVH is the only musician on my honor wall. Keep rockin and keep it alive. Hopefully these kids today will get what rock music really is. PS. Congrats on the Wolfgang!!!! What a Beauty!!!!
I'm a guitarist and of course I've always love Eddie. I found out how important has been Eddie for my taste when we lost him... SAD... I'm from Italy but I went in NAMM show in LA several time. I remamber him in the press room (I'm a joirnaliste) playing a couple of riffs, his smile, his happiness and MAN... the touch!!!!!! We always LOVE YOU Eddie!
Metal Dad... Thank YOU sir for this stroll down memory lane. Almost ALL of your choices here are faves of mine as well. I, too, always wondered how Ed got that EPIC open-string sound on "Don't Tell Me" - and then (because I'm a drummer) Alex's SLEDGEHAMMER drum track on that one... LOVE IT!!! BTW - please share time/date info for your upcoming VH video. CAN'T WAIT!!! Rock on sir!!! 🔥🤯🤘🏻💯
Don't know if you went through it, but as Metal Dad played each riff I had numerous things going on in my head - firstly, the bass, drum and lyric track was being added, LOL, but I had a little memory flash of where I was and what I was doing when I first heard each of those songs for the first time. Even had some memories I didn't know I had 😮😜
Liked both versions growing up in the 80’s , always been a big VH fan , I took the 1984 cassette to elementary school and teacher took it away and I never got it back 😡 Sammy was a great fit and I saw them live in Pensacola Fl ….what a concert
Impressed so much by your playing had to subscribe. Eddie was the WHOLE PACKAGE. He should be GOAT on every list just for his ability to write great songs. Who else comes close?
Excellent anthology as an older guitar player myself and an avid Eddie Van Halen fan , these songs bring back happiest of memories ie going to lake , hanging out with friends , cruising with top down on Jeep jamming to loud Van Halen 🎸🎸🎸👍👍and just turning it up . I still play lots of Van Halen on guitar and am always amazed and humbled by the man and music . Way to go bro 🎸🎸🎸thank you
Great tribute Metaldad, from another metal dad. You expressed the magic of those years of VH. The 5150 tour in SF was the best concert I've seen, which is a few, having worked security for Bill Graham as a Blue Coat. The magic Eddie had is real, it was special, it was unforgettable. And that guitar you got is worth every penny.
My favorite concert also. November 2, 1986 at the Cow Palace. I started playing guitar soon thereafter. I thought Cathedral was played on an organ until I saw Eddie playing it that night. Unbelievable show.
🙏🏼 I loved every note Edward Van Halen shared with us, from beginning to the end. At 15 years old seeing the Fair Warning tour my life changed forever instantly. Thanks for all you shared with us Ed, even though some aren’t so appreciative and like to whine about this record or that, or demanded more, I certainly appreciate all you gave us. 🙏🏼
That song was played at the end of the mighty Morphin power rangers movie. That was my introduction to van halen. And rock music as a whole. Cheesy...but a great memory nonetheless.
59 and still love Van Halan. I saw them more than any other band from Roth to Hagar and I prefer Sammy to Roth, I think the band matured with Sammy I was in grade school when their debut album was released my mom or dad drove me and my friend to concerts then I know you have 2 EVH pedals have you tried the 5150 overdrive? And as someone that has listened to Van Halan for many hours you do a very good job love the sound you bring back so many good memories, I was born in 1963. I watch all your videos.
Thanks for the awesome video Metal Dad! Love that new stealth, it just looks so sleek and sharp. Bet you're lovin' it too lol!!! I'm watching this on 1/26 just out of habit I have to find every Eddie video I can on here and spend the day watching them. Happy Birthday Eddie, you are dearly missed but not forgotten!!!

You may already know this. At the end of the movie ..Twister.. Ed plays a tune called ..Respect the wind...It plays while the credits are rolling. And its killer.
Love watching you play , you doing an awesome job ….my best friend was very fortunate to be very close friends with EVH he’s got a personal signed guitar from back in 2008 he keeps in his cabinet… he and Eddie used to have many late night phone calls… he would be awakened in New York while Ed was on the West Coast, but he never minded talking to Eddie whenever he wanted to call …he was so fortunate he got to be a friend to a hero that he never dreamed he would ever meet …he shared many stories with me hanging out with Ed. Said he gets misjudged ….but he was always a super nice guy to him never had a problem …and still has all his numbers to the Studio and his last wife’s cell phone to this day. So sad to see Ed pass on to the other side but hopefully we will all see him again! I’ve got photos of the wonderful guitar inside a tribute cabinet send to my friend written from Ed wonder where I could find another one of these and he puts a laugh with his signature in 2008. He doesn’t get that went out very much he’s got a Frankenstein also. I’ve got photos on my phone of everything he lives in Florida and I’ve got to get down to see everything in person. He’s also good friends with Brett Michaels are used to guitar tech with a lot of bands. Wonderful photos and wonderful instruments please keep doing what you’re doing love hearing you play you sound awesome! Wish I could share the pictures I have and I still have them on my phone. Rock on!🤘💯😎🎸🎸🎸

Love the Sammy Halen. Music had more feeling... more authenticity. Thank you for these memories. The older I get, the more I reach back and see that these bands were really a bulk of my adolescence. Forming.
Damn Metal Dad you're freaking Bad Ass!!..I'll bet you have a Blast going into Music stores and Pawn shops and Ripping it apart on one of their guitars..and the jaw dropping looks you get are priceless I'm sure...sure wish I could play guitar 🥲
Brilliant! I love your version of "Black and Blue". It's such a sweet riff. I first started listening to Van Halen around the release of 1984, and loved the different dynamic Hagar gave the band when 5150 came out. I went out and bought their entire back catalogue on tape and then had to buy them all again on CD. Still to this day there is always VH albums on my phone and always at least 1 VH disk in the stacker in the car (yeah, I'm old school). The only regret I have is that living in Australia we only got to see VH under the brief Gary Cherone era, and despite contemplating it many times, I never went to the States to see a proper VH tour gig with Sammy or DLR. Of course, that is all gone now, although I would love one day to see a Wolfie VH / Al VH / Anthony / Hagar lineup go around, as Wolfie has picked up a lot of his dad's licks. I am a bit of a storm chaser too, so the VH content on the "Twister" soundtrack was just a bonus. I have a near 600 watt RMS home theatre system that actually makes things fall off shelves and cabinet doors open when I crank "Human Beings" up beyond 70%, which I put down as one of the purest hard rock songs that VH wrote and performed. Love your work Metal Dad!
Love your videos man!! It's pretty fun watching you jam out these songs on your favorite new toy!! I got to be honestly I'm not the biggest listener of Van Halen but the dude has influenced countless well known musicians and fans around the world!!
You are the type of dude that I could sit and talk to for hours about music. Especially 80's and 90's. You and I are pretty close in age I'm assuming. I'm at 45. I've been playing guitar since I was about 17. Never took any formal lessons. Watched a lot of "sound like" videos by the Curt dude. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. I ended up in a band for a short stint in 04 but I had a young son at the time and as a single dad, I just couldn't see myself living the partying, bar hopping lifestyle. My son probably saved me, actually. Unfortunately, I put down the guitar for a number of years, ended up marrying again and we are doing really well. My son, now 20 is getting into guitar, so he's inspiring me to pick it back up. I want to see him enjoy it as much as I did. I just can't believe I didn't start playing at a younger age because I've always been a huge music fanatic. People I work with call me the walking jukebox because of my extensive knowledge of music and lyrics lol. Anyway, sorry for the long history. I just wanted to say I appreciate what you are doing here. You never get too old to rock and turn it up to 11! If you ever feel the notion, hit me up and we can chat. We got a lot of music to talk about 😊

I sat and watched your video with Sammy Hagar and Eddie Van and I have to say you brought a whole new light to me about Sammy Hagar as the singer Van Halen. I guess I just never listened to them once David Lee Roth was gone I really enjoyed what you had to say. the videos and the pictures I enjoyed to. thank you friend keep rocking I enjoy your video shows 👍💋🎶
So glad I found your channel.....You Rock metal Dad. The pictures you flash are great, some I have never seen before. Your playing is pretty solid. ❤ It.😊
MY first glimpse of the upcoming Van Hagar (well before 5150) was Willie Nelson's Farm Aid when the band did Led Zepplin's Black Dog - ua-cam.com/video/cvl5wEDkjXM/v-deo.html
Bought my first guitar not long after OU812 came out many moons ago. Black and Blue was first thing I started picking out. I can almost play it, but sounds much better on my white WG Sig that came in this week (months early) …killer guitar. 😁 New here, (will have to look on your site) but curious about your setup. Keep on rockin’
Awesome, Judgement Day but you left me hanging. My favorite MTV is Panama but when I feel like partying (at 58, it takes on a new meaning compared to back then), I watch, and nobody can deny the energy of, "It is now, officially, 5150 time!"! When they launch into that tune, the first minute shows THE MOST energy ever...5150 from "Live Without a Net" is the best live show (along with "US" festival). As "Metal Dad" said when he went through the top ten guitarists, "We can agree to disagree."
Another awesome video 🤘 Eddie is well missed 😢 Can you give some tips on the best things to start with for a total newbie on guitar like me 😊 Keep up the great work
Awesome! Thanks for the amazing riffs MD. It's funny, but I saw Van Halen with Gary Cherone and then David on his tour with them, but never Sammy, and yet Sammy was my favorite.
Sammy said when he wrote "Cabo Wabo" he did it while playing the riffs from "Make It Last". If you listen closely to "Cabo Wabo" you can hear the Montrose origins of the song.
VH rules the planet! And any EVH gear rules the planet also! I have EVH LBX 15w amp it's the best sounding small amp out there!! 5 12ax7 tubes not 2 or 3.. 5... It sounds amazing! I can see why ed went with fender. Btw metal dad you fucking rock your outstanding guitar player keep on rocking!!🤘🎸👍🍺
" you may call it Van Hagar...you may call it Van Halen....I just call it all Awesome "
How True 👍.....Great stuff Metal Dad...Thank You ...
No matter who is singing..it's all Van fuckin Halen
Balance is an underrated album. There’s some really great songs on it.
Mmmehhhh.....there's like 2 or 3 good songs on that album .
I agree and it’s when Eddie’s tone was phenomenal
That is my favorite album
For me balance was a let down. Although I love Amsterdam.
Criminally underrated. Go back and listen to the record from beginning to end. Such great tone and production.
Don’t Tell me what love can do is an overlooked gem and favorite of mine.
Especially Eddie’s solo wow!

Love the playing and the stories!!!
Awesome compilations 🤘🏻🎸👍🏻
You encouraged me to play my guitars again. Rock on MD.
Rich that made my day!
Metal dad,you bring back some awesome memories. I love the stuff you do.
Amazing Metal Dad. My respect from Las Vegas N.V. 👍⚡🎛🎚🎸⚡👍👍👍!!!
Much appreciated!
@@MetalDadRocks You're welcome 👍⚡🤜🎸🤛⚡👍!!!
Awesome man!!!
God I miss Eddie. This was wonderful! RIP EVH! 🙏🤘🎸🤘🙏
I pressed "Like" before listening and now I want to like even more...excellent!
Hi dad. From another Dad. Keep on rocking in the free world!!!! You have a great sound.
I've been to Rome, Dallas Texas, Man I thought I'd seen it all.....
70s-80s rock was so awesome
I seen them the same tour also at the palace of auburn hills and Eddie's guitar was so loud we couldn't barely hear Sammy
merciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii🤙
Another awesome video 🤘 Eddie is well missed 😢 Can you give some tips on the best things to start with for a total newbie on guitar like me 😊 Keep up the great work
Start with some chords. G, C, D and Em to start... You'll be rocking in no time!
Awesome! Thanks for the amazing riffs MD. It's funny, but I saw Van Halen with Gary Cherone and then David on his tour with them, but never Sammy, and yet Sammy was my favorite.
Glad you got that new EVH guitar. You have christened it properly!
I will forever love that fuckin' 5150 riff!
I prefer the version of Van Halen that features Eddie on guitar;) Great job Metal Dad. Thanks for trip down memory lane. RIP EVH
Excellent! 💪🏻😎🎸 Thank you
Dude you are the EVH Stuff
I'm same age as you EVH was a part of my family
I don't know what your playing through but you have NAILED the tone and techniques, kudos!!
Very nice!
I'd say Summer Nights is missing here. But you need very specific guitar for that. Great video! 80s was a very good time!
Sammy said when he wrote "Cabo Wabo" he did it while playing the riffs from "Make It Last". If you listen closely to "Cabo Wabo" you can hear the Montrose origins of the song.
Thanks for showing us Dads can still rock, now give me that guitar, my local shop can't even get them
VH rules the planet!
