I am 46 and I grew up with the 70s, 80s and 90s Rock. As a guitarrist myself I totally understand where you're coming from and why do you love these riffs so much. Basically the same reason I love them so much as well. Please.. keep doing what you're doing and never let anyone tell you otherwise! You Sir have my respect! Greetings from a likeminded guitarrist from Germany!
Thats why I’m here. Call it my Bucket list, or a midlife crisis or just wanting to feel like I’m cool again thing. Bought a cheap Amazon guitar and a copy of Rocksmith and been noodling for 5+ yrs. Finally getting to a point where I feel I can actually play. Feels good man!
Ditto here, yes he is amazing guitarist, cool dude great taste in music.... I'm creating a new genre here in north Florida called Blackgrass.....the heat the north Florida hills death metal and southern rock roots right down road........ok it's me playing Tony Iommi riffs religiously on a fly v and or gretsch honeydipper but it could happen lol
To this day Pearl Jam’s ten is my favorite album of all time. The 90’s grunge era came onto the scene and took over my music life and I never looked back.
Yes. It was a fantastic album. I was in HS when it came out. I liked some songs here and there on their next album but didn’t care for them as much with subsequent albums. But Ten was incredible.
Unabashed talent, respecting lost friends that made impact and phenomenal storytelling. What a treat to have found you, friend. Thanks for this one for sure. The 90's were a very strange time in music for me. I'd met the love of my life (a Deaf woman) and music took a very strange seat in my life. I continue to re-discover great music from that period of time that I'd taken my focus elsewhere still to this day (Bullet with Butterfly Wings? Huh? :) ) and I'm appreciative of your perspective, knowledge and ability to reminisce! Thanks again!
A Nice change-up MD! The 90's were a special time for me as I was in the military on the East Coast and got to see a TON of great bands Live including Nirvana with the Breeders at William and Mary College, The Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead (at the Boathouse in Virginia Beach), Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam. in Richmond, VA and the Pixies in Charlotte, NC. 🎸❤👍
The overall Weezer "Blue" album is so amazing. It's one of the only 90's albums that fully engaged me. I think it's because of the super feedbacky guitars, the melodic singing of Rivers, and the producing of Rick Ocasek. "Say It Ain't So" is just so awesome, and MD, you sound great!
Weezer's Blue album, Live's Throwing Copper Album, and Bush's Sixteen Stone album are three of the most underrated albums of that 1994 incredible year of music.
I worked at Studio Instrument Rentals in Hollywood in the late 90's and got to meet Dave Grohl and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age Dave Grohl is one of the nicest humble people you could ever meet one of my favorite mash up bands from the grunge era is Temple of the Dog with the members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam my favorite song from the album is going hungry you got to love the line I don't mind stealing bread from the mouth of decadence I have to say I like your setup with what looks like a diet Coke on your amp
Just discovered your channel. Been diggin' it so far! Fun stuff! The fact that you resemble, though more jovial, Black Francis of Pixies is icing on the cake! Keep rockin'! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
So I was looking for a review of the EVH Signature Stealth and found your channel. I am a 52 year old dad as well and I have tried (started) to learn guitar. My son getting into it was a motivator, but I knew my journey wouldn’t be the same as I am an old dog. Your style and smile has motivated me to get going even more… and this video has given me the desire to learn these riffs as a goal. If I can sit in my comfy chair (mine is an Eames Chair) and play those even half as well some day, I will consider that a win. Thanks and looking forward to watching all your videos. (PS Think I am going to pull the trigger on the guitar too. Even if I fail, its a crazy beautiful thing to hang on my office wall).
I thought that there was some good music to come out of the 90s. It was such a different feel than what we had in the 80s though. More riffs less solos. Good stuff man. Pearl Jam has been a favorite of mine for a while and they're awesome live!!
I love 90's rock...especially the depressing... probably because I have depression and it made me feel like someone understood, and I could sing along with them and feel like I expressed myself which helped me feel just a tiny bit better. I still love depressing rock and metal. It still makes me feel better. Idk.
Wow! Waiting for this all the time! Also wanted request it. 🥰 Wanted some Grunge riffs. And what You think about Grunge Guitar Players. Maybe a rating?
Some of my faves in there as well MD. Although for me personally, some omissions happened - "Seasons" by Chris Cornell "Would" by AIC "Enter Sandman" by Metallica
I saw Rush at MTSU. I think Candlebox opened for them. I also am fairly sure I saw Amy Lee singing in a local Murfreesboro bar several years ago. If it wasnt her it was a gal with incredible range. She didnt need a PA.
Grunge hit in my middle teens, and it was my absolute entire life for many years. As I get older, I find myself going back to a lot of 80's music that I thought I was just too cool for, stuff like Devo and a lot of the new wave stuff. But, that flannel wearing, authority hating, piss off the normies grunger is still inside me, even though Eddie is the last major front man still alive. They called us the MTV generation, and our indifference and sinful ways were supposed to destroy the entire world. Well, we dropped the ball on THAT one, I guess.
Hey MD, I see you are rooted in metal but your tastes seems to sprawl. I also saw a brass instrument in the background in one of your videos. So my question would be whether you like SKA music. I will assume you are at least familiar with the genre, and there is a band called Reel Big Fish that is based in SKA, but it also has a punk flavor and for this conversation, the lead singer is a total metal head at heart. I would love to get your take on the song "The Set Up" by this band. Seems like you might have some fun playing the guitar parts from it. Thanks for the great content.
I think Scandinavian black metal and melodeath were by far the best 90‘s music achievements. Don't care much about grunge and all those other alternative styles.
Nirvana was meh... AIC was soooooo much better in every way imaginable. Obviously, it's all subjective. Pearl Jam's 'Ten' was amazing, but after that, they bought into their own hype & disappeared up their own @$$. Pantera = no words needed. Just brutally HEAVY. One of the most interesting things to come about in the 90s was black metal... and no, Venom is *not* a black metal band, despite being credited as coining the term. They are an extremely mediocre speed metal band that got over on amateurish shock value. Rob Zombie's 'Hellbilly Deluxe' album was FREAKIN' AMAZING! So fresh & different. Ministry too had alot of great stuff. Back to black metal, this time of the symphonic style, 1997's 'Enthrone Darkness Triumphant' by Dimmu Borgir is a masterpiece. Anytime I introduce the band to someone, the first song I play them is "Mourning Palace". OMG, just mind-blowing. If you've not heard this one song, DO IT, you will be surprised, especially if youvthink you don't like black metal(of which there are different styles, not just lo-fi garbage like Burzum). Immortal has some truly genre-defining music as well in the more traditional style.

The joy you have from playing is infectious. Can’t help but smile watching you smile. Great stuff
Your an Amazing musician. I'm in my 50's now and just starting my guitar journey after raising a family. I love your videos.

Smashing pumpkins double album was the most iconic alternative album in the 90’s.
@@thornsofchaos Agreed. Love that album. I still have it.
Many thanks and gratitude for playing these riffs, reminding me of times of our lives, cheers Mate!
The last great decade.
Thanks for the trip back!
Dude, keep doing what you do. Wish you lived near me, totally chill with you.
The 90’s was a fun decade.

Great Era of Music! I'm grateful for growing up in the 90's.

I saw Rush at MTSU. I think Candlebox opened for them. I also am fairly sure I saw Amy Lee singing in a local Murfreesboro bar several years ago. If it wasnt her it was a gal with incredible range. She didnt need a PA.
I was at that show. I actually was able to hand one of Neil Peart’s cymbals to the drum tech. I helped that day setting up the stage through MTSU.
I don't know what the world may want
But a good stiff drink it surely don't
So I think I'll go and fix myself a tall one

Funny story about that dude shouting for weezer 😂

Can you play some nasty muddy blues also?
I got to grow up listening to late 70s early 80s music so yes the 90s sucked for music
Pantera was the utlimate 90's band. Gotta have a riff from them, no?
Painters was in a class all on it’s own!
Youre my das great britânica
VS released in 1993 not 94. Vitalogy came out in 1994.
Your awesome, was you in untaxed whisky?
Hey Rick! No, I was never in that band.
Weezer story is the best part
What a nut
Inspiracion i need
Metal Dad. Your Pretty Fly for a white Guy! lol

No Blind Melon?
Blind Melon were fantastic!

fyi Dean's bro the bass player wrote plush
Is Steve Cooper that guy from Blues Brothers Band???
The 90s positively SUCKED. Rock died in the late 80s and no good music was produced after that.
Love lit. Alot better pumpkin songs. Like anything siemese dream goes squealing into solos
Firehouse beats nirvana and Alice In Chains any day of the week just ask the 1992 ama
