love the Medvedev take. Completely agree. He doesn't take himself too seriously, he knows he's not the protagonist. Super refreshing, his press conferences are gold.
I think Medvedev has the Marat Safin charm. Although they do lose control on court, they are very mellow off the court. They are not arrogant, and they don't look for excuses when they lose. Their off court interviews and actions tend to endear us towards them. Compare that to players like Kygrios or Tomic, whom also behaves badly on court, but they often talk a big game without backing it up. Also when you hear about their off court actions, it is hard not to dislike and judge them.
I found Marat more crazy and more sympathetic. Danil goes nuts when angry hitting anything, Marat got a warning for showing at the Net his naked @ss (that was really funny)
Jannik, Six Kings, and the money... I really dont think Jannik looks at the money. Why? Because I had read that he had gotten an endorsement deal that was HUGE. Come on, he got a $158M deal from Nike. Then there's Gucci, Rolex, and Alfa Romeo, to name a few on top of Nike. Plus probably a few others as well. So, no, the money from the Six Kings is not front and center on his radar. However, what might have been MORE important, was just playing top players, getting solid matches in, keeping an eye on his form, and looking at how it might help him with his future goals. Yes, the money seems nuts for us mere mortals. But he's so far beyond that now, that it's like asking if Elon Musk cares that a coffee has gone up in price from $5 to $10. Yes, maybe WE would be outraged. But to Elon, he'd probably just buy the factory and then get free coffee.
I think people didn't understand the real meaning of sinner statement about six king slam. I think the point isn't " i don't think money are important" but " i'm in a position in which money isn't what i'm thinking about and looking for since i have already plenty of it, so i play because i love tennis, i want to beat the bests and be the number 1 in the world" . Personally i agree with way of thinking, sinner is a millionaire and he will continue to earn a lot of money so money isn't a very big deal for him, he isn't obsessed with it and i think is a very healthy thing for him ( in general for a millionaire)
Thank you Andy for the clarity you provide. I have been a Sinner fan since he was a lanky teen. It has been amazing to watch him grow. He's wonderful for the sport.
The Off court Issue with Sinner should show what wada and co. are paid for: To use their Brain, otherwise use a robot. "Was possible for Sinner to improve his performance with the amount of whateverbol found in his Body? -No " Then there is nothing to punish as the rest of Tennis players did not get unfair competition. "Did Wada and co. act Brainless in the past with other players-Yes" Well then is time to work correct and pay a fine themselves for theis mistakes in the past. "The other option is "because they did mistakes in the past now is compulsory to keep doing their same Mistakes for ever" (and get salary for doing nothing like many politicians)...
Wow, best comment ever. The fact that Wada had to appeal for negligence and NOT for doping is a clear sign they are clutching at straws not to admit they have done many mistakes in the past. So, if tomorrow I go to the dentist and he breaks my molar, it's my fault because I should have checked his instruments before sitting on that chair?
Fritz has improved dramatically - the only thing separating the two is Sinner's slightly better side-to-side movement (Sinner is easily #1 in that dept.) and his clutch performance on big points. Fritz' improvement will translate well to his H2H against other players, especially Zverev and Alcaraz. I see him becoming #2 next year. Again, my big prediction for next year is Sinner taking all 4 slams. Sinner is now forcing the rest of the top 4 to play his game - hit huge off of both wings, take the ball early, hit with depth, make minimal UE's, have great side-to-side movement without backing off from the baseline. Zverev, Alcaraz and Fritz can do one or two of the above but not all of the above like Sinner which will continue to give the edge to Sinner. Sinner out-Novak'd Novak to get to where he is right now. And now the only way to beat Sinner is to 'out-Sinner' him and no one is currently equipped to do so.
Fritz side to side movement is okk.... sinner and him both have great serve..... but fritz is poor returner....he hits hard but mostly to the centre of the court like rublev.... he should aim close to the lines going for winners more often......
Love this pod. Would love to know how prize money distribution is broken down at an exhibition versus a normal ATP event. In regards to agent/coach/trainers…are coaches left out of their split at exhibitions? Do agents get split from exhibitions and nothing from ATP?
Andy I love your podcast and your willingness to tackle tough subjects when appropriate- the elephant in the room is where is Jon Wertheim? He’s been a great friend to you and committed to tennis for years- he definitely made a big mistake and he sincerely apologized- he shouldn’t be canceled- idk maybe you have said something in another video- but just feeling bad John gets axed with no forgiveness.
I agree that he got caught when he didn't think people were listening/live and that it was a different environment. At the same, it's kinda rough that that's what he's saying when he thinks the cameras aren't on (even if it is a joke, you're still in a professional environment and should treat it as such till you are off air 100% like out of the studio). Women already face enough unnecessary criticism and roadblock publicly and professionally and that kinda comment only adds to it. He should definitely not be fired but if he's off the show for a while that's fine and also completely up to podcast host (Andy)
The eye roll for me is that he took the Saudi money, then said it's not about the money. It's Saudi, Andy. They took a bone saw to a journalist. Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi was cut to pieces with a bone saw. The sport swashing/white washing everything is maddening.

Andy, why do you keep repeating Sinner went to the 6 kings for money, but you never say a word about djoko, nadal, alcaraz, medvedev and rune who did exactly the same? Do you think they went there for glory? Everybody knows why they went there. You would have gone there too. Any tennis player would have accepted the invitation to go there to make easy money. Then, if some journalist is so silly to ask him why he went to Saudi, he is right to give that equally silly answer you mentioned. Do you think you or djoko or nadal would have answered differently?
Andy what are you talking about Medvedev is by far the quickest and fastest 6’6-6-7 guy to ever to play the game he is the Russian wall for a reason the reason he can’t beat sinner is bc sinner serves just as good returns even better has more effective forehand by far also a better back hand a better slice and way better vollies and drop shots but he gets to freaking everything and has one of the best body’s for tennis ever just does not have the most technically strokes and loses easy spin and power bc of that. When compared to the other best players in the world

Medevedev's behaviour is not funny at all, it's disrespectful towards the crowd there who have paid premium dollars for a seat and want to watch some real tennis.
I think Jannik is super focused on his career and I think he delegated everything about money to experts. His residency in Monte Carlo is going to cost him something in terms of popularity and it was becoming an argument before he became no. 1. Right now he's on the top spot but our IRS went after Rossi (residency in England!!) Biaggi and every Italian sport guy with residency in fiscal heavens. We are good on destroying our own heroes.

Hey Andy - two things: 1. I like that you gave credit to players you usually do not seem to like/mention: Zverev, Ruud. Why do you never mention Zverev being injured and seriously ill for half the season? Do you not know? The Fritz mach-up is bad for him, but he had a knee injury in Wimbledon and has had pneumonia since the olympics. Do you not know this? He had 25% less lung function at some point, and was in hospital before laver cup. You mention Carlos being a bit sick during the finals, but not Zverev being seriously hampered for months. Why not? 2. do you not mention Sinners doping case on purpose now? Is it not the weirdest and most unlucky thing that Sinners extreme explosion in performance happens in the year with two positive doping tests (with a substance also notorious as a masking agent)? How can this not be mentioned as a big asterisk?
It's a fake news that Clostebol in that infinitesimal low% can mask doping. And btw before the positive test he was tested 7 days before and was negative. Can you understand how stupid you are?
Americans always fail to mention that Zverev was not fully fit for the last matches against Fritz. Tibia/knee fracture fresh off the Norrie match in Wimbledon, pneumonia at US Open and at the Laver Cup. He is still not 100% healed from it btw.
He clearly doped regardless. He tested positive on two separate tests. Also, the cream he allegedly used to treat a cut has giant warning signs that is has steroids. So the whole thing is a joke-- it was an economic decision. Pure and simple
@@epicgurus2287 Misleading and untrue. Sinner's physio was using the cream/spray without his knowledge; Sinner wasn't using it personally.
