this reminds me of how i’m convinced i was the first person to obtain a shiny yamper. preordered sword on the eshop and started playing as soon as it came out. literally the first pokémon i find in the grass once you get balls was a shiny yamper. caught it and used it for the whole playthrough, it was to the point where serebii didn’t even have the shiny sprite for shiny yamper, i’m sure there’s a possibility i wasn’t the first but i was definitely close

This reminds me of how I caught Jirachi in Pokemon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire before it was even revealed in the US. I had no idea what in the world this pokemon was and actually emailed the Pokemon company asking about it.

We usually just either have mods watching who keeps upping a counter on each attemp or how I do it which is just download a counter app on my phone and tap the screen each time an encounter happens, currently at around 400-500 for a shiny lapras using maseuda method in shield.
I don't do shiny hunting on UA-cam or anything but I might on my twitch one day but it'll be in a year or so if I ever do
its the best part! the amount of pain to get a shiny makes it worth that much more!

I don't even know the encounters, but my best friend hunted a shiny starter treecko in oras for 4 years and 10 months, he only very recently got it and to say we celebrated was an understatement. For context, the hunt started at the start of our college years, and now we're both in work haha!

Ive been hunting shiny Registeel in Sw/Sh since Oct 25th 2020. Gave up counting around 100k encounters because it was just soul crushing to see the number, and my wife lets out a pretty deep sigh every time i enter that stupid cave again.

I tried hunting a shiny pheramosa, biggest mistake of my life I say, I had to reset my game so much that I couldn’t count time, after 20000+ encounters I just finnaly quit and just do the max raid dens, I got a pheramosa but at the blood of my hands were a lot of dead ones.
First a competitive pokemon event win, and now a world record? Lucy is on a roll! Truly a expert pokemon gamer.

One time I found a shiny zoroark with pokerus on it. 1% chance for the zoroark too. That was the most insane chance based thing I will likely ever experience.
In moon I found a shiny sableye with Pokerus while sos chaining carbink. It was under odds and I didn’t have the shiny charm. The odds were 1/576 million for it to be called in, be shiny, and have pokerus
If I calculated correctly it is a chance of 1 out of 53,7 billions or 0,000000000086 percent. So yeaaaah you are misremembering, it didn't happen that way.

Dallas went over 70k resets for shiny Registeel, that was nuts. Now, Taylor is getting his numbers up there for his shiny Bitzle/Zebstrika hunt, I've sat in on quite a bit of his streams with no action happening & yet, I still throw channel points on betting he will find a shiny. Last I saw, he was in the later part of the 50ks. He's triple hunting but doing so in the double encounter grass so it's insane that he still doesn't have a shiny, don't know if he'll ever pass your number but suppose we'll see. I sat in on Dallas' streams for Registeel & I did not think he was going to get into 70k range but he did so anything is possible.

It makes no logical sense to bet channel points on him getting it. Even if he hasn’t found a shiny in 30 billion encounters, the chances are still 1/4000 (or whatever variation in game he’s playing).
@@stoopidapples1596 It's 1/8192 & I don't mind given I sit in on his streams a lot while I get stuff done so I wracked up enough points that I never use. He did actually get a shiny Pidove at 61k so he did not make it up to Lucy's insane high number but it looked as though he could have for a while.

First game I got was Pokémon X. Christmas Day, just beat the first gym and found a shiny Ledyba out of sheer luck. I was thrilled and never forgot how happy I was. Nowadays, I always try my best to incorporate Ledian in any Pokémon game I play
I also got my first shiny in that game!! It was a Mr Mime in the cave right before the fighting gym with the skater lady, but I found it in a secret room with cool lighting from the ceiling, so I thought it was an event shiny,, and deleted the save file after I completed the game 💀
Years later I remembered that and couldn’t remember the context for this supposed event, so I looked it up… and didn’t find anything. The realization slowly kicked in that I had made a huuuge mistake 😭

I remember reading about a guy who had 130k+ encounters in the safari zone looking for a shiny. Iirc he had the controls of six game boys linked together to hunt faster by the end.

I did 300 celebi encounters every day on virtual console crystal on the 3ds trying to get a shiny celebi to name RedOnion. It took me over 3 years. That's well over 300,000 encounters. I didn't record it. It wasn't worth it at that point.

One of my favorite lucky shiny encounters to look back on was the release weekend of Ultra Sun/Moon. I simply wanted a female Charmander, so I kept resetting the Island Scan for it. At only 8 encounters though, the RNG decided to give me a shiny boi instead.

Was it worth it? I would say is all about the travel, not the destination, if you had fun I think it was worth it.
The luckiest shiny I ever got is also my favorite shiny story. Back in leafgreen on my first playthrough I went to the rocket game corner to add a dratini to my team and it ended up being shiny.
Bruh I just lost a shiny Bulbasaur in leaf green after 14 hours of SRs. I accidentally reset after I saw it had a bad nature 😭.

I caught a shiny Scorupi by complete chance in Sword. I wasn't even looking for one. I was getting Galarian Farfetch'd for my ex-friend and I. We were going to have a little competition to see who'd evolve it first. The reason being it needs to land three crits in one battle to evolve. Neither of us were all that sure how it'd work so we devised this competition. I had to catch them though cause Farfetch'd was exclusive to Sword and he had Shield. I had spent perhaps a few hours trying to catch one. Why hours? Game Freak gave them the move Final Gambit. It's a fighting type which deals a lot of damage and causes the user to faint. It's basically Explosion or Self Destruct. Yeah so I caved and bought Quick balls. I have this thing where Great balls work way more often than Ultra balls and specialty balls just don't work when they should. I don't know. So I caught one and luckily he was holding a Leek. Now I was catching my ex-friend's. An hour passes and I got jumped by the normally purple scorpion. I was drowsy (not the Pokèmon) so I didn't take notice at first. As I was about to run I realized it looked off. Then it clicked and I tried to catch it. I wasn't going to sweat it if I failed as I'm not a shiny hunter and don't really care if it's shiny or not. I caught it and was proud that I finally got a legit shiny that wasn't a mystery gift or scripted event...well actually I got a shiny Sudowoodo in Coliseum before that but I don't know if they revert once purified. To finish the story I did catch a Farfetch'd for my friend but she wasn't holding a Leek. I had Redd, my Thievul, steal one from a Farfetch'd. Also I evolved mine first. It was much easier than I was anticipating. Sirfetch'd are crit machines.
Shiniest lucky I ever got was a cyndaquil starter in the original silver cartridge and looking back, I probably could've got a world record with how little resets I got compared to other people LOL.
The only shiny I’ve ever gotten in a main game was actually shiny wooper in shining pearl in the safari zone a few months ago, was super happy but nervous because it was in safari zone. Thankfully I got him :)

Mad respect for everyone shiny hunting. I once hunted a shiny odd egg in Crystal and finally got a shiny Tyrogue. Only other non event shiny I've got was a Roselia in ORAS that was just a random encounter while I was playing through the game. A fiend of mine also got a shiny Pidgey on my copy of Fire Red when he borrowed it for a week.
I know what you mean, shiny hunting is something that, while I understand the appeal of, I don't personally have the patience for it. Having said that, I still have to respect the people who are willing to devote that kind of time to this sort of thing, it's honestly fascinating

I have no luck when it come to shiny hunting. I would never have the patience to shiny hunt for one pokemon, so a full pokedex...
I started pokemon with Yellow when I was 5, and I've played most of the mainline game. Without wonder trade and event, I only encounter 2 shinies : A red gyrados (another one that the one from silver) and a shiny regice (that is so barely noticable that I didn't get it was a shiny when I caught it xD).

I just discovered your channel today and only a couple hours later, I found my first shiny Pokémon in years. Coincidence? I think not!
What I found quite amusing when I shiny hunted in Sword was that I was pretty lucky finding a lot of shinies while only completing half of the Pokedex. It was so good that while shiny hunting for one Pokemon, I found two other shinies and on another occasion, I found a shiny Arcanine after 10 encounters, making it my fastest shiny hunt ever. And once I had completed the Pokedex and got the shiny charm, my shiny luck just disappeared and have been on a shiny hunting drought ever since.
In sword my first cubone capture was a shiny (wasn't hunting it) and in SS I was hunting for a plusle and found a shiny minun.
i've seen more hippopotas whilst editing this video than i have in any pokemon game throughout my entire life

I usually use the Masuda method and bred for shinies (Eevees) but in Dec last year, I decided to hunt for a shiny Ralts in Alpha Sapphire and got one on Christmas Day. That was the best thing ever! Shiny Wooper is cute though!
Since it's about as rare as a irl axolotl, I'd have to say yes it was worth it!
That shiny pichu story is actually similar to one I had. I wanted to solo run heart gold with shiny pichu, but I gave up on trying to get one after a while. What I did was breed a pichu in diamond, make sure the steps were low on it, then trade it to Pokemon Heartgold. Lo and behold when I hatched it in HG, it was shiny, and I beat red with that little pichu haha.
Honestly, whenever you upload my day just gets 10x better
I remember the first shiny I ever got (because I’m that sad) was in Pokemon Sword when I hatched it out of a Vulpix egg. I was so happy and literally named the Vulpix “Lucky” as before that I never had found a shiny.
(random story context, the reason for having the egg in the first place was because I randomly just kinda start taking random Pokémon and doing intense egg breeding, like for my fav Pokémon, or just to try and get a strong Pokémon)

My most memorable shiny encounter was during the bug contest in Heart Gold. I caught a shiny butterfree and named her melody. I have been taking that bug along with me up through every subsequent gen with butterfree. and when pokemon home updates, I will bring her to paldea. I'm not even a shiny hunter so it's pretty neat

I've only ever gotten 3 shiny pokemon in my entire life. A scraggy in black and it was completely on accident, last year I hunted a Shiny Magikarp and my friend grabbed my switch and casted the rod into the water one time and got the shiny, and then I was helping that friend Legendary hunt in Ultra Sun and accidentally got a shiny in my first portal (don't remember what it was). So its cook seeing people like you who are lucky at it :D

My longest shiny hunt in terms of time spent is probably Zapdos in Let's Go Eevee. I started around February 2019 and finished in late November. The average time I spent hunting was around 6 hours a week, which is almost 250 hours in total.
That is an insane amount of encounters wow
Also it's kinda funny you mention the giant Spheal plush cause it just hit the U.S. Pokémon Center store I think like a week or so ago. So it's not Japan exclusive anymore.
During an accidental SOS method, I was going to catch the first Ditto I saw while playing through Ultra Moon.. it called its blue friend on the first try (unintentional hunt) named it Crayola
I got one shiny pokemon as a kid and it was a Ponyta on Fire red. My brother (4 years older than me) told me if I let it evolve it wouldn't be blue anymore so it was a ponyta forever. Now I just think he was either jealous or didn't know.
Wow, I'm amazed at professional shiny hunters' determination to their hobby. My longest amateur shiny hunt is my current one - shiny Miltank in Pokemon GO, I'm trying to find this blue cow for more than a 9 months now, 1546 encounters without shiny, while shiny chance is about 1 in 512. But at least I found a ton of other shinies in the process

My most memorable shiny was in Legends Arceus. I completed the side quest for the freebie shiny Ponyta and added it to my team cause I like how shiny Ponyta looks. Later in the same play session, I was back in the Horseshoe Plains looking for an Eevee when I heard the little shiny jingle. I frantically swiveled the camera around to find the shiny and what Pokémon do you think I see? Another frickin shiny Ponyta just casually strolling along. I was genuinely questioning my sanity. Like, what on earth were the odds?! It was the same play session! Not even an hour had passed since I got the freebie Ponyta! Apparently the game was like, oh, you like the pretty horse? Have another! By now the first Ponyta (the freebie) is a Rapidash I like to use frequently, but the other still has a special place in my heart. The Ponyta wasn’t the only weird out of nowhere full odds shiny I’ve gotten in Legends so far, but I’ve rambled long enough.
What’s funny is I had a near identical experience to this, only reversed. My 2nd play-through of PLA, I’m running around the Obsidian Fieldlands and stumble across the shiny Ponyta. I assume that because I knew of the quest for it, it had gone ahead and spawned for me and I figured, “sure why not?” and caught it. Only to find out that I hadn’t accepted the quest yet and my mind went “???!” I went back out there (with the quest this time) and sure enough, there was the 100% spawn.
Meanwhile I've been specifically hunting for another Ponyta so I can have a shiny living dex in Arceus! Aah!
@@FrenkTheJoy I don’t have the patience to pursue a living shiny Dex. I don’t want to even THINK about how much of a headache it would be to hunt the Distortion-only ones. The last ‘mon I needed to complete the normal Dex was Shieldon (+ evo.) Not Cherrim, not Spiritomb… Shieldon.

I remember that my second shiny, not including the Red Gyrados, was a ryhorn that I found in the safari zone in leaf green. The only other shiny that I ever saw was a torcoal in my Sapphire. I thought they were glitches at first because I never heard of shiny Pokémon until later.
Just that little look it gives you in battle is like thanks for waiting for me
It's ironic you were so lucky you used up all your luck and ended up being terribly unlucky with a shiny you actually wanted.
My highest was 65k for shiny lugia in soul silver I spent 2 years hunting it and never got it. I haven’t touched that save file in a long time now lol
The chance of this happening on any particular shiny hunt, start to finish, is a 1 in 4470. So, depending on how many shinies you have by now, it COULD happen again. xD
Also, the newer record has only a 0.02067% chance of occuring, or a 1 in 4838.
I was playing scarlet and just randomly running around trying to find the magnemites and ran into a shiny magneton so I pulled out my thunder stone evolved it and kept it on my team for the rest of my play through.
