Turn Your Safety Razor Into a Straight Razor!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лют 2024
- Geo does some serious beard removal with a Merkur 23C Safety Razor. The twist lies in the fact that the shave is performed without the Top Cap, so shaving with only the Bar or Baseplate. What DE blade would make this even more challenging? Feather of course! This causes the razor to shave like a straight razor-makes the razor super aggressive so this is not for beginners or novices, but should only be attempted by seasoned shaving veterans. TOBS OUD Shaving Cream is lathered up in the Shave Nation Smooth Indestructibowl with the Simpsons Trafalgar T2 synthetic shaving brush. Post shave features the Shave Nation Wide-Stick Alum Block and Proraso Aftershave Balm. The result is a Super baby smooth shave!

Me: Hey Geo want to use the R41?
Geo: Hold my beer 🍺😬
Classic!
@@geofatboy👍🏻
That's the slowest I have ever seen you shave with a DE razor but your doing something I would never try. Congratulations.
This I would not attempt under the influence... or quickly...
This video defines all of us shaving hobbyists. Bored men will do anything to not be bored.
So now I know why I did this! Always pushing the envelope!
No fear whatsoever and a Feather blade no less, brave guy Geo! Topsy turvey on the description but we got it.. 💈💈Nice go sir.
My bad-OOPS if I really did that. Sometimes I get ahead of myself
Of course I had to try this. I'm a two-year wet shaving veteran after decades of electric razors. I routinely use an R89 or R41 with a Feather or Astra blade. Surprisingly, shaving without a safety bar wasn't that difficult to learn. I use this technique for my third pass; against the grain on my cheeks. Wow! What a close shave it gives. It does require good, deliberate, smooth technique but so far, after about a half dozen trials, there's been no blood. Just this morning, my wife rubbed her face against mine and said, "That's a kitty smooth shave." Her exact words. So yeah, the technique is worth mastering.
Hey Geo! Loving that you are still making videos and going strong. Could you do some more GEM shave reviews? Would love to see that.
Thank homie! I gotta go find my old Gem razor...
I wish I hadn't seen this, I must try it
Ha Ha! It happens...
😁😂
Great video. You are braver than I. I am sure if I tried that there would be blood everywhere. Great job Geo. I think it makes you look younger. Have a great week. 👍
Thanks for sharing William!
6 months Younger 🥂
Your videos are great! Always crazy and/or interesting subjects ☀️
Thanks very much-Just keepin' it REAL!
Geo, I shave daily with straight razors. I have over 30 vintage that I have restored, rescaled and honed and I don’t think I would have the guts to do what you did in this video. lol.
Truth is-There's nothing like a nice straight razor shave! This is kind of tedious...
Nice work Geo. I've been shaving like this for a while using a 15C, which is an idea I got from an older video of yours. I only do WTG and a little XTG without the bar, then I reattach the bar for the final ATG. Keep up the great work. You have a loyal and dedicated fan base for a good reason.
That is a great idea! Don't know why I didn't think to try it. Sounds like a good procedure for a BBS shave! Next time I shave off my beard!
Wow, what an interesting switch from Safety to Watch-Out razor. I think I would need to have the EMT on autodial. Thanks for the videos.
Good one-Thanks!
You're a brave man Geo.. nicely done!! Have a great day and smooth shaves
Thanks Deac!
Yeah Geo i tried that once on
my moustache but with an
Astra blade. You have to go
slow like that but the result is
amazing. 👌
S-M-O-O-T-H!!!
Very cool! That goatee was impressive!
Thanks Alvin!
Tried this for lining upp the cheeks and it worked perfectly! Even better and more stable than with shavette! Used my Mühlo Rytmo (R89 head). Thanks for super tip!
Uncle Geo… That’s awesome!!! U reminded me of the first time I shaved with a R41 😂
I had a weeks worth of growth and the R41 just made quick work of that beard!! Great shave there bdw… have a great day!!
We sing songs to the madness of the brave! Bravo, Geofatboy! I've always believed in you!
Thank you for your support!
@@geofatboy greetings from Ukraine ✌🏻
I just got Ralphie saying "I'm in danger" in my head when I saw the thumbnail.
You might shoot your eye out kid!
Naked or goat you have that distinguished look. Never knew you could do that with double edge. Just tried it as close a shave as my Cut Throat razor.
Thanks very much and-Exactly! Hence the title.
I've heard of baby smooth, but that's newborn baby smooth! Wow!! What a awesome video and shave
I need to try this. Looks like a euphoric shave!
Let me know if you reached the state of euphoria!
@@geofatboy
Euphoric was definitely a strong word of choice. Lol!
Exhilarating would've been a more appropriate option.
Went bar-less for this evening's shave. I did a 3 pass shave with it. Loved it! And the auditory feedback was like when I use one my singing full hollows. I have to admit, I was a little nervous about it. But after only a few swipes I was completely comfortable with it. It wasn't euphoric. Lol!
But I did achieve an exceptional BBS shave. I couldn't have done better with any other razor.
And no nicks, cuts, weepers, stinging or zinging. Boom!
Always wondered what would get a 10 aggressive rating
Thanks for the vid
This would be the high benchmark!
That was hardcore!
Nice!
U look good in beard
Thanks! It's fun to grow it... and fun to shave it!
My dad shaved almost his whole life that way, his weapon was an old Gillette Tech which he lost the safety bar when he was younger. His blades of choice were the BIC blades. I also tried once to shave like that and succeeded, but the shave is much more comfortable with the safety bar. Without the safety bar you learn the meaning of no pressure faster 😂
You cant say nothing bad about a man who is clean shaven geofatboy
Many people do feel this way Thomas.
a rigid kai blade
might also be a good choice for a no-guard shave
possibly
A beard makes you old. Therefore, you look much better and younger without a beard. A perfect shave!
Thanks for sharing!
@@geofatboy Sir, please do not be offended if I spoke a little harshly. My English is just getting better. All the best to you!

I've done this previously a few years ago, they've probably seen it already. Hey, anyone is welcome to try it-BEWARE!
I think I could try this.... but still I would rather stick to shavette or straight razor for the same result. Anyway great shave man!
ya gotta do what's best for you!
Absolutely younger
Thanks!
Must be an AI Geo.....😮
3:57 Moustache Geo. Love it.
wew, that's brave. I don't think I'd try it myself haha. Maybe after another 5 years with my DE safety razor.
PS-I've been shaving DE for more than 5 years 😀
The only stunt that keeps Geo's mouth shut😂
Ha Ha!!! Good one!
@@geofatboy 🤗
Being clean shaven makes me feel younger.
Sounds about right!
I'd like to know, what Geo was doing when he came up with the idea to shave that way!!
You mean like some outside force was involved?
A beard makes you look older when you're young
And younger when you're older
Nailed It!!!
You gotta have balls of steel to do that 😂😂😂 if I want precision I use a shavette
Balls of steel or Blades of Glory...
I would like your help. They gave a good King-c Gillett for beginners, until now I always used Gillett Mah-3 razors, so I would try with regular razors. I'd take that one because it's not expensive to begin with
Might as well try shaving with just a de blade in hand 😏
the gears are turning...
Geo ...It is a new experiment, but it is dangerous and requires careful handling. However, I believe that using it to determine the edges of the beard or mustache - as is the case with any safety razor - is not comparable to a straight razor, which excels in this regard. So it is suitable for shaving the full face.....Cheers🎉
Thanks for watching and sharing!
My wife's very rapid reply was "younger!" ... Interesting take on the razor as I have been looking at shavettes after 2+ years with an R41...
Good video, this is a great idea for anyone who owns any 3 piece DE razor but wants a very aggressive razor aswell, did you get any irritation after that shave ? There was a lot of blade chatter😂
There was some stinging from the alum block, but smooth nonetheless!
That looks scary! Thank goodness I’m not doing that. I’m only in my second year. Looks cool though. Shaving Goals
Haha. I thought I was fairly hardcore having worked up from a chinese Rimei with those teflon coated Voskhods via many things to a Feather shavette with my now beloved PRO SUPER SE blades in like 4 years. Then I see this. I use that Simpson brush BTW. Great isn't it.
Your description in regard to the top cap and base plate is backwards. other than that, nice video.
I was just testing you to see if you were paying close attention! 🤣
@@geofatboyWell played sir! ✌
Hi Geofatboy good morning mate
I think maybe both.
You have more on weekends?
Possibly
Nice demonstration. WARNING!!! Don't try this if you are a beginner! But you forgot to clear the runways 😱 BTW, facial hair adds years. I think that's why the youngsters grow beardage so they "look" older.
Thanks for the tips! Thanks for sharing.
You’re a braver man than me, using that razor with no safety bar. I would have thought you would feel excessive tugging without the bar?
Yes better without the goatee!
It would have taken a lot more strokes or swipes to remove the beardage with the bar attached. Thanks for sharing.
Plz review paker 56r

My thoughts exactly!
Hello Geo, I'm new to the channel. Couple of items. First, you didn't use any pre-shave oil. Not your thing or ? Second, would you suggest using the no bar safety razor shave before trying the traditional straight razor? Thanks
I sometimes use a preshave-(check my vids) No, I would recommend shaving with a shavette first, then jumping to a straight razor.
You look younger😊
Thanks for sharing!
I’ll just use the Merkur Futur I bought from you instead, Geo! 😂
That works too!
I mean you have more on the weekend new safety razor?
Hmmmm?
You look younger without the beard.
Thanks very much!
How TF did you not even nick yourself?😂 That was awesome!
I was going slow for a reason. Can't rush through this one!
A Chuck Norris shave if I’ve ever seen one!!! Who needs a safety bar… rubbish!
That razor got GEO’d💪🏼
I’m waiting for the day that Geo just ties a blade to his finger😂
Love it! Thanks!
Blade-Meet Finger! The gears are turning...
@@geofatboy 🪒 👈🏼 😳 🦾
Wow i feel like i would f myself up trying to do that. 😳😆😂🤣
Like I said, not for novices...
I think keeping the Goatee by dying makes you look at your Prime and after shaving it makes you look like handsome
Thanks Joy!
What’s the recommended 🎉 angle to hold the edge of the blade to the skin this way?
You gotta go by feel and see what works best for you.
What is the best wet stone for sharping a straight razor?
bit.ly/Naniwa12KstoneSN probably this one.
I've tried this before, let just say it didn't end very well 😂
You should grow out a full beard next
Sounds good!
Either Geofatboy is running out of content ideas or he has a death wish 🤣 The man is fearless. Reminds me of the R41 against the grain video.

Thanks Michael!
@@geofatboy you welcome my shaving buddy
Does that long of beard growth hurt to shave? Cause when I have 3-4 days of growth it hurts to shave it off😂 hopefully it’s not just me
Your shaving hair off at the base where it meets the skin, so I think it feels the same no matter what. As long as you're using a sharp blade.
Geo, why does col conk shave soap dissapate quickly? I have the right amount of water but soon as I lather my head 15 seconds it's already dissipating! I use shave oil first then apply lather over. I'm mixing in a bowl too! Help me out here bro!!! 🙏
The old col conk was an excellent soap that would take on a heap of water and it was very slick. I've heard the new formula isn't the best.
@@AU10ZC The old one looked like gel & shiny. This one is hard & not shiny. I won't buy it anymore. Thank u
See below... I wish they would have stuck with the tried and true original formula...
@@geofatboy Thx Geo!!
Older. When I saw myself in my daughter's wedding pictures I shaved my mustache and all my white hair off. My wife said it makes me look younger.
Not for the faint hearted👌
True!
Oh man, these no-bar videos make me tense up so bad. I think I'd rather do the safe thing and use a harbor freight belt sander instead. I'd at least end up with less burn and blood than if I tried this no-bar stuff.
Pretty sure Geo could out shave Clint Eastwood.
Only because Clint is in his 90's now... Back in his spaghetti western and Dirty Harry days no one could touch him... Oh Wait! There were these 2 guys named Steve McQueen and Paul Newman... Don't get me started on Chuck Norris!
I shave to look clean neat and young. Facial hair is for hipsters and men who want to give the impression of being older and wiser. But that’s just a opinion, and everyone has one.
I like the way you explained it-Thanks!
Thank you @@geofatboy

cool vid. I just wonder how many incompetent newbies are going to try to mimic this and cut their faces.....not knowing they are stepping into the real big boots of shaving.
Let me know if you reached the state of euphoria!
You look younger.
Agreed-Thanks!
And thats how i shave my whole body for years. Its not that hard once you get used to
Hmmm, not sure I'd try this in certain sensitive parts...
Whenever I pluck my ears or cut down my nose hair, I look 10 years younger.
I think you missed a little under the Nose. I would had used the Fusion 5 back blade for that place.
Yes-the precision trimmer as it's called. It is a handy piece of kit!

Nope.
You're cousins wrong!!
Love it-I can't wait to tell him!
@@geofatboy Lol !!
Gotta admit...takes a lot of steel nerve to shave like that! The facial hair makes you look older, that's why young men grow a beard or goatee, so they look older and will be taken more seriously. I am too much of a coward to try that technique, however, I use the Fatip Grande Open Comb and get pretty much the same results. Great demo, thanks for the ideo!
You're no coward! The Fatip Open Comb is an aggressive little razor! Thanks for sharing.
😰nononono....never
