      As a builder, I would.
      The trem arm looks to be very very sloopy.
      And you lost me trying to convince me there's no difference between plastic and other. Especially if your grinding on that cheesy trem.
      I gotta go now. Before you give me more to write about.

    I work in the guitar industry and handle guitars priced from 100 dollar cheapos to 20+ thousand Gibson custom shop units; that said, there is something I have noticed with instruments coming out of China, Indonesia, and other Asian countries and that is that the house brands exhibit many of the same features in basic construction as you would find being used on the more prestigious brands that have their "economy" models made in these same factories but at a seriously less inflated price. Companies such as EART, Harley Benton, IYV, AIO, Wolf, and so on are putting out the same quality in playability with maybe slightly less desirable pickups, switches, and other hardware. The thing is how much more are you willing to pay for a brand name on the headstock?
    I have a dual humbucker T-style Harley Benton that you can buy right now for 125 bucks that plays better than a 450 dollar Squier and is on par with a MIM Tele that costs close to 800 bucks. I changed out the pickups and made so action and intonation adjustments and it is a beast. I have like 2.5 hours of my time in the guitar and zero money as the guitar itself was gifted to me by my older brother.
    Look at it this way if you spend a couple hundred bucks on one of these Amazon guitars and use it as a mod platform you can build your custom dream guitar for a fraction of the cost of the branded siblings and interestingly enough the big names still tend to go for nickel silver frets while the knock-offs are using ball-ended stainless which IMO is a worthy upgrade.
    I have played 1500 MIM Charvels and EVH Frankie's that aren't any better than the Steve Brown Sound super strats that you can get from Guitar Fetish for around 380 bucks. Again, I ask you what premium are you willing to pay for a logo on the headatock?

      True.. Import guitars have come a long way..
      The lower cost ones usually have terrible electronics, iffy fretwork and cheap fret wire.. This one seems like a bargain.
      Gibsons USA quality and finish is lower than than an import PRS..

    • @killacoiler1707
      @killacoiler1707 8 місяців тому

      @@paisteplayer1040 Gibson has all kinds of quality control issues. It is sad if you ask me because Gibson's cheapest guitar is the Les Paul Jr. and they are still over 1500 bucks. It is sad to think that you can get 4x the guitar from Epiphone with their new modern series offerings. IMO, the Matt Heafy Origins signature Les Paul is probably one if not the best value in a guitar coming from the Gibson owned brands..
      Epiphone has been killing it with many new offerings that punch way above their price tags. One that really has me impressed is the Classic in what they call a worn finish. At around the 450 dollar range it is superb and the only thing I might do is swap in some pickups and wiring of my preference.

  • @greekfreak1980
    @greekfreak1980 8 місяців тому +1

    I'm baffled how good it stays in tune, without locking tuners and with a cheapo plastic nut. I imagine a Graphtech TUSQ nut will improve tuning stabillity even more. Over her in the EU, a TUSQ nut goes for around 15 Euros, super cheap as an upgrade. Trem springs and new pickups and this thing will make a great backup or practise guitar.
    The trem unit looks like they copied the design of the GOTOH 510, I think that's the main reason it holds tuning so well.
    Generally speaking, the Chinese are getting better in guitar building. They're still producing lots of cheap crap but they're getting there.

    • @thedavidshreds

Pickups were shit and couldn't adjust the heights because they didn't have foam or springs under them 🤦‍♂️ Fret work was decent(about what you'd expect from Squier). The foto-quilt was not appealing at all, I'd rather see the 6 piece body or just painted a solid color. I returned mine. I'd rather have a Firefly, tbh

    I recently got a Gibson clone from a Chinese manufacturer on eBay. I think it was like $229. Exact same super dry fretboard. Same not so great nut. But at 1/10th the price of a real one, I’m saying 100% worth it. Plays well. I’ll probably replace the pickups, definitely replace the nut, maybe even the machine heads. And I’ll still be way under 20% of a real Gibson.
    I’m kinda on the fence about the morality of fake brand name guitars. But, damnit, I’ve always wanted a gold top, and I’m just not gonna pay $3k+ for one. Never been a dentist or a lawyer.

    I have two Volgoa’s, TN2 and 7-string, and I love them. They have there small quicks, like I had to scrape some of the coating off the bridges on both guitars to make better contact for the ground and the pickup on one was tilted forward. But those are easy fixes… but literally half to a quarter of the price from major brands… and the playability is amazing. The neck profiles they have are better than any others that I have played. The TN2 I just got about two weeks ago was $170…. And it’s leaps and bounds better than the Ibanez that I payed $100 more for. On the Volgoa I’ve only had to replace the factory strings (obviously), adjust the action (it was fairly high), and remove some of the coating on the bridge… so literally $6…. The Ibanez, I replaced the pickups because the ones that came on it were absolute trash. Replaced the tuners because it had no stability. The neck is fine, except that it had some sharp frets and the truss rod needed to be adjusted. So a ton more to do on it and it was more expensive.
    What’s really sad though, I also have a Harley Benton 8-string that was roughly the same price as my Ibanez… and that came better out of the box than the Ibanez. I don’t know if that would be more about the growing quality in some of the affordable brands or that some of the major brands are reducing the quality of their lower end lines.. I’ve played some of the lower end LTD’s, Schecter’s, and Sterling’s… not one compared to my Volgoa’s for double the price.
