    The work print version is my fave as you kinda feel for Michael being in those horrid situations and take his side for 90% of the movie. The other two versions go in to more detail and are sicker and even make Loomis nearly as evil as Michael lol.

      Yeah in Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, Dr. Loomis (Malcolm McDowell) is a money greedy jacka**. He did seem more evil than Michael Myers in that one, especially more in the Director's Cut version.
      The first 2007 film, I thought he still seemed caring and wanting to get through to Michael Myers in both T-Cut & D-Cut.

    The original copy of the movie I saw was the workprint cause a friend got ahold of it. Loved it honestly, completed Michael's story all in 1 movie. That why when H2 came out I was confused because of the change made in the theatrical version on H1

      So Rob Zombie like David Gordon Green & Danny McBride also wanted to make Michael Myers mortal, except in Rob Zombie's timeline it makes sense, whereas David Gordon Green's 2018 trilogy is contradictory because Michael survived a car crash at full speed when sheriff Hawkins crashes him hard with his police vehicle, also he survived numerous gunshots & a brutal mob beatdown that would result in severe fatal injuries to a normal mortal human.
      So yeah I may not be a fan of the Michael Myers being mortal thing, especially mortal to being shot by many guns, but I see why Rob Zombie made it like that, he wanted to give us something different, pretty much a "what if" universe, whereas David Gordon Green's is not it's own universe because it follows John Carpenter's original 1978 classic, which makes no sense, since in the 1978 film Michael Myers was clearly surviving things no man could ever survive, he was basically semi-immortal and I say Semi because Michael Myers isn't completely unkillable, since he in the 1978 film and it's old sequels Michael Myers can be killed by decapitation (as he did originally in H20), setting him on fire and never putting the fire out, being crushed, or being blown up to pieces (like Jason in the Final Friday movie)

    Workprint was the best. I feel it was the perfect mix of the theatrical and directors cut which both felt to over the top in both directions.

    The ending with Michael being talked down by Loomis and then getting shot by the police was beautiful and made the most sense with this story version of Halloween. Its a shame they didnt put that ending in Directors cut since it was also not used in theatrical. Micheal died and it was well done. Would have saved us all from the steaming pile of shit H2 was.

    When I saw ( and got) the work print version of 2007. I was very impressed with the movie and its story.
    A couple of months later me and my friends saw the theatrical version and we all agreed that the work print ending was way better and fullfilling. Suddenly in theatres we saw Michael crushing sealings and a longer chase scene than in the work print....it was a bit too much...but I still have a deep love for RZ's Halloween films. The 2007 work print, I still consider the better version. Glad I still own it on a copied DVD..it's a little collector's dream

    I remember just before this came out, it was leaked online and, yes, I acquired a copy of it because I just couldn't wait. (Don't jump on me, I still paid and went to the theater to see it as well.) When I saw it in the theater, I noticed it was quite different. When they announced the director's cut, I assumed it would be the leaked version, but yet again, it was still different. I've never heard anyone talk about it and have long since lost the disc I had burned it to. Even if I can't find a new copy of it now, it was nice to at least hear it acknowledged and talked about.

    Omg I just seen Rob Zombies work print and I saw his theater version and to me it was ok but now seeing this omg why wasn't this in the movie it showed Mike's decent because of either the people he loved left him he saved the women gettin violated and he really was a BEASTMODE even as stalking the bully. It was graphic and gory from the mean step father Judith's boy friend and to Judith and the mother was so sweet to him you got attached to the characters even feeling bad for Mike in a broken home and Didn't die in this omg this was the best. Since Halloween kills

    I definitely remember being in 6th or 7th grade when the movie had come out and the only version I was able to watch was the Workprint with that Dimension Films watermark slapped on the screen haha I think for nostalgic purposes, the Workprint is the version I always go back to. I agree on all points touched on in this video - each version has its strengths and weaknesses.
    it’s VERY important to remember that the ENTIRE Halloween franchise has done EVERYTHING that’s possible to do with Michael and Laurie. personally I found it interesting that they reincorporated certain plot points from other movies into this one. the original Workprint ending was essentially just the Halloween 4 ending - execution by firing squad.
    I remember seeing the theatrical cut / directors cut ending with the Loomis bit and Laurie shooting him in the face - I think those were some really bold and new ideas, but I did also find some comfort in a studio meddled ending that was just a rehash of something that had been tried before 😂 even against his will, Zombie tried to deliver something that would serve the story to the best of its abilities. it’s tragic either way BECAUSE of how much context was given about Michael’s full story.
    great video. thank you for making this! gave me a little boost of serotonin for the day

    Theatrical escape scene, directors cut character development, and work print ending would be the absolute best version of this film possible in my opinion. Agree with you completely, there is one scene in the unrated of Rob Zombie's Halloween that didn't need to be there and you explained my thoughts exactly. I did enjoy the unrated version of his Halloween II as my fave just because it has the extended Annie moments which are so touching and tragic plus the ending leaves it open for a third which understandably, we never got.
    I am extremely curious about the work print cut because until now, I'd never heard of it before.

    A part of demystifying Myers is looking at the reality of environment of institutes like mental asylums and prisons. Terrible things do happen there and they do attract people who want to have asses to people who by the nature of the dynamics, are vulnerable to them. The scene is just as ugly as a serial killer stalking and killing people on Halloween.

    My buddies and I had the workprint, then saw it in the theater, and all three of us had that "wait what's going on?" moment when the ending was entirely different.
    The best version, would have to be bits and pieces from each, into a fourth amalgamation. I think they all had something to bring to the overall picture. But as it stands, I believe I'll go with the unrated cut too.

    The scene where the female asylum patient is assaulted doesn’t have anything to do with the actual story, but it does give a glimpse into asylum life. Does this kind of thing happen in real life? I can’t give specific examples, but more than likely, yes. These people are in places like this because of behaviors that are not their fault. The ones running & working in the asylums don’t care about the patients, just the $ they are (asylum owners) or aren’t (workers doing a low paying job) getting. I believe this was Rob’s way of doing some social commentary.

    Wasnt a terrible film but!!! Was corny in parts. As a kid when it came out it was like H20... OH MY GAWD!!!! A NEW ONE!!!

    I really did not like the backstory of the family. I did like see relationship Dr. Loomis developed with Michael. The kid that played young Michael rocked the role, but adult Michael was unrealistically to big.

    • @ojmcclanahan689
      @ojmcclanahan689 Рік тому +1

      How was he unrealistically too big? I mean the actor playing him is that big, so it's not unrealistic at all. Some people are just huge and it made a lot more scene having a huge mountain of a man doing these things and carrying a half ton gravestone away from a cemetery. There's nothing unrealistic about Rob Zombie's Halloween. That's what makes it so great. Real life is always much scarier than a bunch of ugga bugga boogeyman shit. We never saw Michael's father. He might have been a very large man as well. Genetics can do wonders, man... What exactly is unrealistic about him growing up to be 6'9", 250lb? I'm not understanding that at all. He wasn't a small 10 year old by any means.

      Nah, Michael Myers looking like a professional wrestler is lame. It's too much. The family back story left no mystery or mystique. All of zombie's movies are just a mix of carni, trailer trash redneck smut-like exploitation films. He steals the spirit of tarantino and grind house then discusses his movies like he's making high art. He thinks it's edgy or like he's really making a social comment. Lol
      It's a shame bc I wanted to like his stuff but I don't think he can get the 70's or texas chainsaw massacre out of his head. He's a hack.

    I really liked the work print version of the first film. I got it back in 2007 when I was getting screeners on the regular the bob van scene and some of the alternative takes fit well with the ending in that one where he was shot in the front yard after a stand off pulling Lorie out of Loomis car.

    Sorry, any version without the assault on the female patient is superior. Hated it when I was 13, hate it now as a 28 year old. One rare instance where studio meddling was very much needed.That being said if the theatrical escape scene had been inserted in the work print, that'd be awesome. Also I predict shout factory doing a special edition with all 3 versions included in the near future.

    I don’t believe Rob Zombie gets enough credit from people. You know you all have to really think about a few things. So John Carpenter’s version was set in an earlier time. Where as Rob Zombie’s version was set more into modern day society. So of course the films aren’t going to have the same take from one another. Carpenter’s version for me left out so much that I think should’ve been told. However like I stated before it’s also a film that had an earlier storyline. So it makes sense for it to be mysterious and not really tell you anything about him. (He’s just the boogeyman). Where as Zombie’s version takes and explains the mind of a serial killer and gives you some insight to why he is the way that he is. I love that because it showed modern day trauma and the effects it can have on children. So weather you like carpenter’s version or Zombie’s you have to respect the mind of both and think about where they were both coming from in terms of generations. Carpenter’s took place in what the 1800’s -1900’s. Where Zombie’s took place in the 2000’s.

    Disagree wholeheartedly that the theatrical escape is better. Neither escape is very good but the theatrical males no sense cos if Michael had the strength to break metal chains, he could have done it years before.
    Also, to say that the unrated escape has no relation to the story and only exists to be edgy is a bit unfair. It was shown from the beginning that the oversexualized environment that Michael inhabited during his childhood was one of the factors that contributed to his mental decline and the guards in that scene probably reminded him of those days. It also showed the importance of the masks since he was completely non-reactive until his masks were touched.

    • @TheNightwatchZone
      @TheNightwatchZone  10 місяців тому

      Interesting point. The idea of Michael breaking chains whenever he wanted is true but we know that he was "shut down" at Smith's Grove until that "silent alarm was triggered".

    What pisses me off about this movie is no one had any idea what this movie was supposed to be about. There are so many ideas that contradict each other. I feel like there is a great movie there somewhere.

    I think the rape scene was an event that traumatized Michael even more as he was used to being left alone. It springboarded his extreme violence after his escape!

    • @ojmcclanahan689
      @ojmcclanahan689 Рік тому +3

      I have to disagree. I don't think the rape scene added anything at all. It didn't affect Michael in the least. He didn't react until they touched his masks hanging on the wall. I don't think it's possible to traumatize a person who has no conscience and I don't think his shitty home environment played much of a factor in the way he turned out. Sociopaths are generally created by their environment. Michael is a psychopath. He was basically born without a soul for lack of a better word.

    • @zeidenmedia
      @zeidenmedia Рік тому +2

      @@ojmcclanahan689 I respectfully disagree. The child Michael in that movie was sensitive and bullied and mistreated so badly that his conscience retreated to the back of his head. The rape snapped him out of his fog.

    • @ojmcclanahan689
      @ojmcclanahan689 Рік тому

      @@zeidenmedia At this point I'm wondering if we even say the same movie. Sounds like some kind of Mandela Effect thing going on here because the character you're describing and the character I saw sound like two vastly different characters. The Michael Myers I saw was not sensitive as a kid. He got his rocks off by torturing and killing animals then taking polaroids of it. The Michael Myers I saw never had a conscience to begin with and the Michael Myers I saw didn't care about what was going on behind him until they messed with his masks. It's kind of amazing how two people can see the same thing so differently.

    • @zeidenmedia
      @zeidenmedia Рік тому +1

      @ojmcclanahan689 Yeah, I saw a very abusive stepfather and how he got bullied horribly. I guess we saw different movies.

    • @ojmcclanahan689
      @ojmcclanahan689 Рік тому

      @@zeidenmedia Yeah, the mom's boyfriend was a first class prick, but there's different factors at work here. He got teased in one scene before brutally murdering the kid in the woods. A poor sensitive child would not have done that, nor would he have been torturing and killing animals and doing god know what with them. He did have a dead cat in his book bag while all of this is going on. He was murdering his pet rat when the movie began. From a psychological standpoint, Michael Myers is a psychopath who's instincts are more akin to an animal than a person. You fall into the same category as the security guard who died because he thought he had a bond with Michael, as well as the nurse who trusted him with a metal fork, and the other people at Smith's Grove who completely ignored Dr. Loomis' warnings. There's two specific thing that Dr. Loomis says in the movie that you're ignoring. One is "The darkest souls are not those which choose to exist within the hell of the abyss, but choose to break free and move silently among us." The other is "He is mad that trusts in the tameness of a wolf." He was never some poor abused kid that was twisted by his unfortunate environment. Michael Myers would have been what he is regardless of where he came from.

    My primary issue with Rob's Halloween, as is the case with literally ALL his films, it winds up being the same Antagonist story line: Psych0, r3d-n3ck, Hillb1ll13s doing psychotic and violent things. I loved House of 1000 Corpses. His follow up The Devil's Rejects was a FAR better film than House and in my opinion is the peak of his talent and work. After that, it was the same movie, just with different characters and all staring his Wife. I liked the strong violence in his Halloween remake, but the characters are so off-putting and petulant that you really just want them all to die. So I had some trouble digesting his "vision." Be that as it may, I still own both on bluray. I don't hate it enough to never watch it again. :)
