- Don't miss THE STORY OF HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS (1989): • The Story of Halloween...
I tell the story behind arguably the weirdest (okay, not counting Rob Zombie's "Halloween II" here) and most complicated films in the "Halloween" franchise: 1995's "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers". I delve deep into this sixth installment's troubled production and bitter legacy. Directed by Joe Chappelle. Starring: Donald Pleasence, Paul Rudd, Marianne Hagan, Mitchell Ryan, J.C. Brandy, George P. Wilbur and Michael A. Lerner.

Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4! Jaws 4!

@@LaytonEversaul The best turkey to ever deserve the Layton treatment ;)
Happy Halloween, from your friends at Silver Shamrock.
Happy Halloween from the Shape himself
I saw this in theatres on my seventeenth birthday. October 8th 1995. And fools shine on!
November 8th 1983💪
I absolutely LOVE that song
Yup. I saw it with my cousin in theatres around the same time early October of 95! I was 19.
I see what you did there
I had H6 tapped on a VHS and watched it so much as a kid. H4,H5,H6 all have a special place in my childhood
When you show the VHS boxes I’m hit with so much nostalgia. Fees like just yesterday I’d be in Blockbuster looking at those...🤩🤩
Same here brother I love the nostalgia
I’m hit with nostalgia for Beta cassette rentals. Lol
same. being 10 and walking into the horror section first, the smell of popcorn popping in the store...
I was just thinking if people even know what VHS is anymore. I used to have some great double feature VHS tapes I made. Miss the simple days ...
My favorite covers in Blockbuster were Scream and Scream 2. Those covers looked sick. They had the red rental boxes, too. Blockbuster smelled amazing, too.
I had this on VHS. I remember my brother and I ordered it on ppv and recorded it on a vhs tape cause that’s what you did back then. Just have to say as an 8 year old this movie made no sense at all to me
This channel is becoming the greatest film insight on youtube.
💯…I’m enjoying these insights. Things I never knew.
He deserves a huge following. These videos are excellent and give an insight into why film’s often fail despite best intentions.
That segment on Danielle Harris' trials to get the role back sounds creepy.
It's the Weinstein's, of course it was creepy.
@@michaelsinger4638 Th first thought I had at hearing that request is if that technically made Danielle Harris 'legal' for Harvey to try to blackmail into screwing him...
@@TheAmateurEditor , That is sick, yet knowning Weinstein's history that guy would do anything to get his way.
Hollywood is weird man, this movie is so true that’s why it’s at the bottom of the totem
@@CryingLord Lol! WHAT!? “THIS movie is so true”??
Yeah, I look at it as PRACTICALLY a documentary film too, soooo... The realism is just overwhelming!
😂😂😂
Probably my favorite myers mask after the original one & the 2018 mask.
Facts!!!!!
@Dr. Loomis facts
They nailed it. H4 & 5 masks were cringe. Love this one. A slight grin. And love the blue filter they had.
I loved the mask in this one. It's not as good as the original Shatner mask, but it has this awesome look to it, as if it's made of stone. It fits Michael's near-invulnerable status, and looking at it gives you the impression that you're up against something as ancient and immovable as stone.
@Dr. Loomis If that is the only nitpick relative to the other masks in the previous movies I will take it. Great mask.
i like the mask in part 6 a lot. good shading in on the mask too with the light blues and greys. it's great how they tried to make it look like the covers of part 4 and 5. best idea.
It's better than both masks from 4 and especially 5 by a mile.
It’s my second favorite mask
All those failed attempts to make the mask like H1's. Only took till Halloween Kills to get it right (for the flashbacks)!
Loved Halloween 6. The last Halloween sequel I liked. At 38:50 was very sad and heartbreaking hearing Dr. Loomis/Donald Pleasance last words shortly before his passing. He was excellent in this film like the first 2 Halloweens. And such a class act. RIP Donald.
This movie is a trainwreck
@@joen8529 Making Michael Myers part of a cult and having him rape Jamie is just absolute bullshit. Also both endings (theatrical and Producer's Cut) are wildly unsatisfying.
@@joen8529 Are you liking your own comments? They all have one like.
@@joen8529 hell no
@@joen8529 It's disturbing how many times you've replied. Now I have to mute you.
New Line came dangerously close to having the top 4 slashers under their belt (Jason, Freddy, Michael, Leatherface).
Hell, anyone else remember the Fangoria spread from 1989 depicting those 4 in a photoshoot? New Line almost owned that spread lol
Im trying to find that any link??
I had a subscription to Fangoria for a lot of years. It used to come in a black bag. That stopped sometime after 9/11. Speaking of your name Moreau’s island. One of my favorite issues is the two parter about Richard Stanley and his time on set filming The Island of Dr Moreau.
Oh it was real man. 😆
The photo was legit. 😀
Damn all these Halloween videos were extremely enjoyable. Layton did some great research that took these to the next level.
I love that we are supposed to believe that 60 year old man who looks like a banker or CEO was wearing silver toed cowboy boots and rode on a Greyhound.
One of the many issues that unfortunately the writers of 5 created when they just made up shit out of the blue and expected someone else to figure out. I give Farrands credit for at least trying to explain the Man in Black and what would become the Thorn symbol after they both just randomly showed up in 5.
I believe it 1000% The man was a cult leader who had serious style!
Every town has a weirdo walking around.

I love that this is the takeaway! This comment Wynn's!
😂🤣😂
I remember renting this at blockbuster. It’s honestly a guilty pleasure.
This is exactly what makes the 1978 original so iconic...one voice. One vision. One director.
6:00 Laurie: "Was that the boogeyman?"
Dr. Loomis: "As a matter of fact, it was."
Script actually is written as “it WAS the boogeyman” ... check out Dave McRae’s page as he goes into detail about that
I crack up every time I see Mrs. Blankenship hold up the knife and say “HELLO, DEARRR!”
Big ol' slice of cheese acting!
I don't care what anyone says! This was the creepiest Halloween movie ever! best Myers..Best atmosphere.. It truly felt like Halloween
It's shocking to me that the lady who played Mrs. Blankenship made her debut with Halloween 6, and at that age. It's never too late to take on something you love!
Wow! Considering how creepy she crafted her character, you’d never know it. Imo she held her own just as well as Pleasance or the man who played Wynn
The two that made Halloween 6 scary for me as a kid was Donald Pleasance and George Wilbur as Michael Myers. Dr Loomis' warning to the mother to get out of that house was haunting. The way Wilbur moved and clenched his fists in rage as Michael was creepy. It conveyed something more than just some crazy serial killer that escaped the loony bin.
Also A. Michael Lerner & Brad Hardin.
I can't even say he clenched his fists in rage. Clenching a fist in rage typically involves trembling or shaking. But his fists were completely still, like a surgeon. As though his hands were made of stone and he kept them in a fist because his natural stature was built for efficient violence.
Layton's 'story of' videos are better than some of the movies themselves
I've liked Halloween 6 since I saw it in the theater when it was released. I have the theatrical version and the Producer's Cut on blu ray and enjoy rewatching both. This was an interesting look behind the scenes. Thanks for posting.
What's more scarier than Micheal Myers in this movie is the fact that Paul Rudd has barely aged since 1995.
Adrenochrome
@@Dman425 I was just going to say that lol. Well it's not a joking type of subject and topic, so i meant the "lol" was to the fact of you saying that statement before I was able to say it myself.
lol Imagine being an adult and thinking Adrenochrome harvesting is real.
So true and the other replies are very funny.
I don't see why he would be so hard on himself? that's a hell of a resume.. "oh my first movie was Halloween 6" cool!!
This was actually the very first MM movie I ever saw, so it’ll always be my favorite of the sequels. When I later saw the original, it made MM my favorite slasher villain, supplanting Chucky.
I loved it as a little kid but when I got older, saw the original and especially after seeing H4, I completely hate it now😂
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been waiting for years for a documentary about this movie. It’s one of my favs.
I know this video is 2 years old, but I just discovered it. I enjoyed Halloween 6. Yes, it has a lot of issues, but I liked what they possibly could have done with Michael and the Thorne curse. There's something scary about not knowing what "supernatural" aspects Michael has from the curse, but yet it's still grounded as Michael is human. Adds some unknown to it, which I think they could have done so much with. Oh well! Greate video and love all the Halloween trivia/details you've provided!
I just love that every time he refers to Akkad “and his son”, he always shows the same picture of the son as a child with a pipe in his mouth, reading a sheet of paper, as if that’s exactly how old he was behind the scenes of all these movies, running the business with his dad.
I LOVE your review/ retrospectives, your commentary, trivia and overall taste in movies. I see a bright future for you. You have a voice i can see becoming iconic. You're like a born host.
Paul rudd in this movie gives me dude from wedding crashers who tied up vince Vaughn vibes lol.
Oh shit yeh lol
Layton, I think you're a class act. Not only do you do a nice job cutting these videos, but narrating them, as well. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I also appreciate the absence of obscene language in these presentations. Not all horror fans are sophomoric potty-mouths. There's actually some conservative, well-spoken, family men who appreciate a good scare. Your presentations are an oasis in the desert, when it comes to just being able to enjoy the documentary without having to endure the torrent of obscenity that often accompanies them. Thank you and keep up the good work, my friend.
Thank you! I try to take a more academic approach.
I love having different timelines and story threads and different versions of Michael - it’s like a comic book hero. I love the Halloween franchise and this is definitely one of the more intriguing entries. I think the best “version” of the movie is a combination of the Theatrical and the Producer’s Cut - maybe most of the story and soundtrack of the Producer’s Cut with some of the special effects and ending chase scenes of the Theatrical?
I appreciate your take on it. I never thought of the comic book perspective. Movie fans should be as accepting as comic fans are
I always loved the idea of the Thorn curse. This film is underrated. But as a stand alone movie.
@@donniedarko4954same! I just wished they would have followed Daniel farens vision he seemed to understand the lore and characters more than the producers. It's a great idea to move the series forward only to get botched by the meddling.
@@donniedarko4954 the Thorn curse is alright but don't show the man in black or rituals or dumb stuff that messes up the tone of the movie.. the atmosphere and cinematography were excellent like in Jason Takes Manhattan but totally ruined by some of the dumb scenes and story direction or the way they had Michael just appear
All I'm going to say is I would rather face both Michael Myer's from Halloween 4 and 5 before having to face this version from Halloween 6. This guy was fucking brutal...
This is a fun guilty pleasure for me. I'm glad to watch this every season.
Great deep dive. You deserve more views. Keep producing bro.
Just found this channel. I’ll be watching most of these videos over the next few days lol. Well done man. Awesome job.
Just stumbled across one of your videos today. They are brilliant. Very informative, funny, professional and smooth. Good work.
Truly underrated channel! Love your content brother
Great work, as always. Somehow you even got me feeling sympathetic for Akkad when facing off with Dimension and Weinstein!
Yaa you can tell Akad cared for michael and the other thing sad was how Chappell said pleasance was boring Chappell is really a horrible director
Great video very informative and well narrated and like the fun tone in your voice. I really appreciate your respectful change of tone when talking about the passing of Donald Pleassence I hope I’ve spelt that correctly.
Really enjoying your detailed and thorough movie documentaries!
You've done your homework I'm seeing and hearing a lot of new info. Nice job.
Thank you for making this!
I love hearing about how disastrous this film was.
Theirs needs to be a documentary about it.
This video was sooooooooo much fun to watch and I can tell a lot of attention and detail was put into it's composing!!!!! PLEASE MAKE MORE!!!!!!!!
One thing this movie did nail is the Halloween atmosphere it just has that glow about it.
Fantastic video my guy, great work!
Yes, please. I would love to see your reviews of the other movies. Because this was very insightful.
Very great work here well done!!! I highly enjoyed this. I've heard the original story of its cursed production many many times, somehow this documentary feels very fresh and interesting.
What a fantastic Halloween present! you've seriously out done yourself again. Amazing. Take all my money
Thankyou for this very insightful and informative video. Never cared much for the theatrical cut, but after reading a lot about it and seeing some fragments of poor quality I was extremely thrilled to finally be able to see the producer’s cut. A huge improvement, despite it’s confusing ending. I love the occult touches, and I love Marianne as Kara. Definitely a guilty pleasure - though I really don’t feel guilty about it at all :)
Love these videos just discovering them now! Great work man.
Wampwamp12 Thanks for watching!
Really love all the work you put in all theses videos! Over this past week I watched all the Jaw videos and just now finished the Halloween ones. I would love to see more of the Halloween videos, keep up the awesome work!

Great video @Layton, Happy Halloween dude
I need to see more of these. We need a video for every film from the big 3 franchises. Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Better than most making of documentaries out there, love it
Happy Halloween! Been loving these reviews and retrospectives! ^^
This series of yours for the Halloween movies are so good. Thank you.
I hope you can do something similar for the Hellraiser movies!
Thank you so much for your work and awesome production value sir! Always a pleasure to watch your videos! And yes, if you can do Rob Zombie's Halloween films, that would be insane! Especially the second one...

Drumdums Thanks again, Lee! It’s always nice to get validation from a horror movie authority like yourself.
Thank you for making this! Just finished and I’m thankful for all the extra knowledge on this! Nowww if one could find the Producer’s Cut on Blu Ray 🤔🤔
Another great video! I learned a lot.
Great video and very in-depth.
I have always had a soft spot for this movie, maybe because it reminds me of my early childhood and going to my meme house for Halloween, but it puts me in relaxing autumn mood and I like the cast.
Love the Too Many Cooks shout out! Haha Brilliant!
Hey just want to say thank you for the content it's amazing entertain and insightful I always felt alone as a guy who loves to know the history of a movie how it was made the cast directors and other detailed info, and now with your channel I'm not alone THANKS AGAIN AND DON'T STOP DOING WHAT YOU DOING!!!!
Favorite video of yours so far
I personally loved this entry in the franchise. I was never big into Michael Myers. I'm a Jason fanatic. And this version of mm reminded me of Jason. I thought he looked the best in curse and he was a badass. I never understood the hatred. But again, I was never a fan to begin with.
You better get ready for Halloween kills, because if you’re a Jason guy, Halloween kills will be the next best thing for you.
Excellent retrospective documentary. The Danielle Harris drama was really in-depth. You think they woulda gave her the heads up that Jamie’s role in the film was minor before letting her go through all that trouble. Also never knew about Quentin’s involvement. Looking forward to watching more of your vids. More entertaining than the movie itself 👌🎃
Just discovered your channel recently ty so much
Thanks for watching!
I thought they did a really good job with Halloween 6. It was a good movie.
Just to say your videos are awesome!
Good job, dude!
Back to back! My goodness! Too much! I'm so happy!
I really wish they would continue the series to Halloween ending part 6 that would be awesome
The Producer's Cut ending was definitely different and could have led to some interesting sequels but with Pleasance sadly passing away it pretty much killed that idea and is likely one of the factors that led to ignoring 4 thru 6 when H20 came out.
"they could've continued with Danny and Kara Strode plus Tommy, but they choose not to push the storyline forward and now you have reboots and alternate timelines, old character revisits and fans gotta act like this part don't exist, that part don't exist which causes more of a headache"
@@johnhenningfield4360 The Halloween film series is a mess plain and simple. If Carpenter had had his way back in the day there wouldn't have been any sequels and the first film would have been it.
@@alucard624 "agreed but Hollywood wasn't gonna let that be a one-off as successful as the film became, now as the other parts are concerned Halloween 2 was brilliant but how they delivered the brother and sister angle was awful. Had they not put the flashbacks in front of it before Dr. Loomis heard the backstory....SOLD 👌"
@@johnhenningfield4360 True. There's a reason the whole brother/sister angle was jettisoned starting with the 2018 film. I wasn't really happy they did that but I can see why in regards to wanting to start fresh again. It's just when they did that it jettisoned Halloween II 1981 which was one of the better sequels of the series.
We had a Halloween inspired murder happen in my country a while back. That was pretty creepy as things like that rarely happen here.
I thought I knew EVERYTHING about Halloween until someone told me Michael Myers, got killed by Michael Myers in Halloween The Curse Of Michael Myers
That was a great movie review from you. I actually liked both versions of this movie.
I carried my bootleg producer's cut with pride for years. 6 was the first Halloween movie I ever owned and had a lot of nostalgia for it, but even as a kid I thought lots of plot elements didn't go anywhere. Finding the producer's cut was confirmation that my instincts were right. For that, it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Fantastic Surprise thank you
thx for the deep dive!
Thank you for your explanation of this movie❤
Thanks for this indepth retrospective! I always love seeing the behind the scenes and lesser known facts about this series. Sadly, it wasn't treated well up till recently. But it makes for interesting movie lore.
One thing though, was this 42:14 intentional? Threw me for a loop but it does fit for the subject matter at this point in the video. Just curious. 😁 Keep up the great work!
WOW I did not expect this and had to do an actual double take when I saw this in my subs! THANK YOU Layton for your always amazing production quality and documentary work, seriously no one does it better! These 5 and 6 Reviews were absolutely the highlight of the season this year. I've always been a fan of Curse especially, for some reason I always gravitated toward the messiest or least liked films in their respective franchises even as a child. (Jason X my favorite Friday, Season of the Witch my favorite Halloween, etc.)
Please do the rest! At the very least we NEED to reach Resurrection, if anything needs someone to explain how in the hell such a final product even exists it's that one.
Thanks for watching! And for your thoughts. “Resurrection” will happen ... for better or worse.
Great content, thanks!
I loved this movie went to the release at the theatres in Bangor Maine when it came out Halloween 1 and 2 and 6 are my favorites
Badass
Awesome video and yes I would love to see you do a video for H20!!
I love your insight into the Halloween series and I’m loving how much I have learned from your videos! I hope you do something on Halloween resurrection! I remember that movie being pretty bad! Lol!
You won't have to wait too long for that one.
Just subbed! Great documentary! I have a hard time picking a favorite between the theatrical cut and producers cut. They’re quite different. More blood in the theatrical but the cult storyline is definitely different. Would love to see more Halloween documentaries from you. 👍🏻🎃🔪
