But despite that, he spared Vito a terrible punishing fate coming to him for the triad restaurant shootout which him and Joe caused the triads to blame the mafia and the mafia going to the mattresses on the Chinese. But also gave him a limbo fate in which he must be an overseer of Sal Marcano and his Marcano crime family in New Bordeaux. Never returning to Empire Bay and never seeing Joe again.
That’s why I find it hard to believe he would let joe live as Vito and joe caused too much damage to the Chinese and the mafia no way joe would survive or be let back in even as a slave to galante
@@dwaynejpeterkin My guess is Leo knew Joe was too Valuable of an enforcer to be killed off, considering technically the Triads are rivals of the Italians so passing it off as a bunch of two mafia goons going rogue works well. I have a theory in regards to what could have really happened. Leo probably made the same offer to Joe that he could serve the Vinci family, or accept the same fate as Henry in the hands of the Triads. So when Joe betrayed Falcone he already got assurance from Leo, however the condition for Joe's life is he never reveal or try to have contact with Vito on what happened. So when Joe was about to meet Mr. Chu's people Leo had a plan for the Triads and made it look like Joe took them out and escaped. Leo made sure Joe disappeared including faking his death. An knowing Vito will want to avenge Joe he set up people, that Vito will hunt down that are not important for the Vinci family. Joe was given a new name and identity, and its officially known that "Joe Barbaro" is in fact dead. But in reality he is alive and has been serving the Vinci family for years.
Despite the limited info about Leone "Leo" Galante. This is a well structured video on how Leo transitioned from Consiglieri to Commission Member. Something that i cant piece together since after playing Mafia 2
him being a consiglieri for probably the biggest family in new york made sure he had a seat. salieri had one aswell as it was mentioned by the guy who wanted to rape sarah in mafia 1.
It's kinda sad that Vito stopped considering Leo as a father figure in Mafia II, and having more resentments and hate towards him in Mafia III, for what he did to Joe apparently and for exiling him from Empire Bay.
Wow your take on the mafia 2 cliffhanger makes so much damn sense. Tommy letting frank live and escape while everyone thinks he’s dead is basically the same situation you described with Joe and Leo. Plus real world la cosa nostra members holding back certain truths to protect each other was extremely common especially once the commission was made
Man I saw this thumbnail and I was cmon how in depth can a character from mafia 2 (admittedly an amazing game) be? But this video was really goddamn good. Very good stuff

I was annoyed the first time I played Mafia 2 bcos there was no warning that the following cutscene was going to be when you get "made" so I just showed up in the standard leather jacket, it definitely killed the atmosphere
Vito's father is not useless, but an honorable man, helping his fellow workers in the docks. He was forced to borrow money from loan sharks to feed his family since his work only pays a meager salary plus the mob is extorting them under the guise of union collection fees for the barber. He fought this injustice and the pressure drives him into depression and alcoholism. Later he was found dead from "accidentally" drowning. That's why Vito, after learning the truth behind his father's death and their family suffering, is partly from the very organization he works for; he is furious and causes the rampage in the docks, killing his fellow mafia colleague. Avenging his father in the process.
To be honest, when I first heard about Falcone being the one who killed Moretti it almost feels like Mafia 2s story has been retconned and that Henry was framed by Carlo.
