What does something like this cost ? I have a vf series 2 that if it wasn’t a massive cost I could be very interested in or the crime cast idea you mentioned in another comment
Hey mate, the apple tv kit is $1199 And it is a bit cheaper to go with just the Chromecast but not heaps. I'll get the price as just a HDMI input device, and you can supply your own Chromecast if you like 🙂
Is there a kit I could order for a chromcast to be installed the same as this Apple TV and can it be viewed while the car is in motion to allow for screen mirroring to use maps on my phone etc? And if so, how much and who would i need to contact to order it etc?
@@wickswirescaraudioandfabri7730i just got a vf and was looking and thought how good is this if not available anymore thats ok worth a try cheers for the repl welcome to qld been here 7 years myself now from adelaide never look back haha
Ill see if the company we got the interface module through still does them. I can modify the Apple TV myself, or you can even do it with a Google TV dongle. Been wanting to move up here for a long time and finally had the chance to bite the bullet. Already loving it 😊
Hey Lucas. It comes as either apple tv or mirroring, but is essentially a HDMI input so you can add an android dongle or a pc dongle if you wanted. It will just need a remote to use it. Chromecast is a good option as well 🙂
@@wickswirescaraudioandfabri7730 I'm located in Wollongong, NSW. I'd love to be able to have apple CarPlay and the latest SatNav map database that is compatible with the factory SatNav (no database updates will be released from Holden anymore) or apple maps through the Apple CarPlay. Not sure if either or both are available. I'd need to have a chat with you about what's possible. thanks, Graham
If it's the same style 'mylink' unit then it should still apply and function the same 🙂 the audio is the only thing as series 1 vf Commodore you can do an aux in, series 2 it runs through Bluetooth.
Hey mate, I've got a 2017 vf2 redline. My understanding was that the head unit on these did not have an aux in for sound. So I'm wondering how you pass sound through from the interface unit? Bluetooth?
Hey mate, yes you are dead right. With the series 2 they have to run the Apple TV Bluetooth audio into the factory unit for sound. It's not quite as good as direct plug in but still works quite well 🙂 next step would be to add a Processor/amplifier to the car which would not only improve the rest of the system but then give you the ability to run an optical input from the Apple TV making it lossless audio setup 🙂
Just curious to know what power source inverter did you use to power the Apple TV. I installed an alpine i902D VF and also put in the Apple TV box but within 2 days it caused the inverter to fry. Did you use a pure sign wave and if so what brand and what wattage??
I convert the apple tv 4 to run off 12v so there is no need for an inverter, I've done quite a few now 🙂 Happy to convert it for you if your not sure how. Where are you located?
I notice that the box yr Apple TV came in had a host of other wires and components. Are these so it will integrate with My link. Is it possible to wire this into the unit I’ve installed (Alpine Apple Android 902D VF. It’s apparently alpine model specifically designed for the VF
Yeah absolutely the i902 has a hdmi input on it so the apple TV can run directly into it. Control of it still happens through its remote control. Im currently fitting an x902 into a customer's car 🙂
Wicks Wires Car Audio and Fabrication okay thanks. I need to take the car back to the installers and get the inverter removed and returned. Then I think it might be road trip time once yr silly premier opens the border. Do I just google the store and book in for the install wiring? What time frame will it take.
Thanks mate. The main interface box tucks in without a bracket, the HDMI audio splitter gets cable tied up up of the way and the apple tv box is mounted in with Velcro strips. It's possible to do it with brackets and mount the apple tv in a different location but will make the install price higher to accommodate for the extra time 🙂
Excellent work. Would I be able to buy the kit itself. I’m in nsw and can’t see me driving to Victoria any time soon.
Nice video thanks, Is there an interface for an android phone/system ?

This was a few years ago now, im not sure if the kit is even still available

Holy shit balls 😮this is bloody awesome 😅can you do this for any other cars? Like say Nissan Altima Ti-S 3.5 ? Please say yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really cool. Can you do a mod that gives you apple car play and maybe apple Maps or google maps? I have two VF series II commodores.
Yes you can add apple car play to these, where are you located?

Can this be done in New Zealand?
You would need to contact some audio stores around you and see if its something they can offer.
jay can mylink go into a ve commodore use same features thx
No unfortunately completely different format. I have modified a couple of apple tv 4k boxes lately and run them with alpine units 🙂
I’m interested in doing this to mine, however, I have a US version (2016 Chevy SS) - would you know if this will work on this model?

Yes it will 🙂 where are you located?
Dose this work on a wm caprice s1
It is possible but the screen quality on the factory unit is pretty average. There are options to be able to change the whole factory unit out now 🙂
