- Опубліковано 13 вер 2024
- What’s up everyone! In this video, I'll guide you through the process of changing the differential fluid on your 2003-2011 Mercury Grand Marquis, Crown Victoria, or Lincoln Town Car. Dirty or contaminated fluid can jeopardize the differential's health, leading to potential issues due to increased friction and wear. I hope this tutorial proves helpful. If it does, please consider liking, sharing, and subscribing-it greatly supports the channel. Thank you for watching!

Thank you grand marquis’s doctor. Just finished.
Sorry its taken me so long to find your channel. I like your style, straight forward, no nonsense but pleasant. A teacher. The camera work is excellent, the best I've ever seen in a 'How To'. I just subscribed, I hope to see a lot more
Actually very good video. Great quality and camera work.
You are my favorite youtube tech!!!
If the differential is not leaking, just use a suction pump to remove old fluid. Saves a bunch of time and unnecessary effort. The suction pumps cost about $15 to $20, simple to use, and readily available. The pump will remove about 95% of the fluid that would be removed by taking the cover off. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just a quick and simple option if you determine it works for your particular circumstances. Many shops do the same to save quite a bit of time and effort. The pumps come with a secure one foot flexible clear section of medical type sanitary tubing which easily dips into the fill plug opening. Of course, your method allows for more complete draining and cleansing.
Yo!! I completely agree with you and I’m sure viewers will too. It’s a great idea and I didn’t even think of it! I really appreciate you sharing your method.
Thanks bro I have a 97 mercury and 04 f-150
If you wanna REALLY "save time", just skip the job altogether !! 😁
A proper (Factory Shop Manual) differential fluid change requires the REMOVAL of the cover, CLEANING of the accunulated metal shavings, and REPLACEMENT of any gaskets.
If ya wanna do it RIGHT, then do it RIGHT !!
SHORT-cuts give us LONG-lasting problems.
@@SlikLizrd Totally agree. If you are going to do it, do it right.
If you have ever pulled a diff cover, you know you will not get all the crap out in the very bottom of the diff with a suction gun. It's not like you are doing this every 5,000 miles, so not really a big deal.
Good clean video! Thanks Jesse! I have to do that on my 06! ✌🏼
Yo.

Really nice and easy, thanks ;)
Great Job
Good job!
Thanks man needed this vid!
is it easy to change the inner and outer tie end rods
Good content!!!
Just finished on my '95. The RTV is a good tip.
Make a video of how to replace the harmonic balancer 👍🏽
Got a 04 Marquis 126k miles now the ignition coil just started misfiring but I'm gonna replace them all and the spark plugs.
Very well done video. Thanks Jesse. At what mileage should rear be changed or year wise?
Change out your differential gear oil when you first get your USED vehicle -- and again at 50,000-mile intervals.
Use Royal Purple 75-W-90 Gear Oil -- NO additives are needed for Limited-Slip differentials.
Is that the rear differential? I have never changed my fluid and want to. Your videos are awesome man. They have helped me with tons of work on my Grand Marquis.
Yes that’s the rear differential 👍🏽
@@XJJesse Ok. Thanks man. Keep up the awesome content!
YES. Notice that the Mercury Grand Marquis has only one (1) differential, which is located under the rear section of the vehicle.
That's the fill plug you're removing and reinstalling, calling it a drain plug may confuse some people.
CORRECT !! It's NOT a "drain plug" !!
The stock 8.8-inch Ford differentials have NO drain plugs. The diff cover MUST be removed for a proper cleaning and fluid change.
A "short cut" is a road to disaster. 😁

Has that Fel-pro gasket held up?
How often should this fluid be changed? I have a 2002 Merc Grand Marquis and have rebuilt everything in it, including new axles.
When I worked in shops a few master techs would spray the diff with carb cleaner, Would that be a bad idea? I've done a fluid drain once on my 02 marquis but I didn't spray the differential. What's your take on it?
Carburetor cleaner is also fine I’ve used it myself and had no issues. You’re fine don’t lose sleep from that just next time clean the cover to remove the debris.
The cleaner, the better. You don't want any grit in those gears. It also looks professional if the area is clean and dry. It also helps in spotting any new leaks.
You supposed to use both wheel chocks on the same tire
Thank you for putting me on I’ll make sure to do that next time
It was my understanding that in the manual it says the capacity is 1.8 qt plus the 4 oz of the friction modifier?
Your Panther's differential requires SIXTY (60) Ounces of fluid. Put the Friction Modifier in FIRST !
You forgot to show adding limited slip lube in the video.
If you use ROYAL PURPLE 75-W-90 gear oil, there is NO NEED for the limited-slip additive.
The stock (original diff cover) differentials require sixty (60) Ounces of lubricant.
Question:
I have a 2010 Marquise.
Do you know if the key start is does with chip inside or not?
Because i have to make a copy. I would like to know first.
Thanks.
Yes it does require a chip but these can be copied at many key copy makers
What is a additive?
For automotive applications, an "ADDITIVE" is usually a chemical that is ADDED to our engine oils and/or other lubricants.
"Additives" are for making our lubricants perform
differently and/or last longer -- Additives are used in Cooling Systems, too.
Most "Additives" do little or nothing to improve the performance of your vehicle.
Did you have to wait 24 hours before applying the final amount of torque?
Nope, started driving 30mins after I was done. No leaks or issues.
If you’ll notice he used a gasket , he just used rtv to hold it in place on the cover . Many Diffs simply use rtv alone on both mating surfaces.
@@danielsmith8659-- FORGET the Paper Gasket and the RTV Sealer !!
Get a RE-USABLE Gasket -- LubeLocker part # LLR- F880 -- Needs NO RTV Sealer -- Takes 60 Ounces of Royal Purple 75-W-90 Gear Oil.
@@SlikLizrd is this part number for a crown Vic 8.8. Rear diff
@@SlikLizrdwill this work on 98 Mercury Grand Marquis? The part number you put?
Dang when did pac start making Jaguar videos?
If a diff has the aluminum tag, it's a posi. No tag, no posi. That's what I was told, not what I am certain of...(but a good clue)...
NOPE. They ALL should have the "TAG" on the differential -- it tells the type and ratios of the unit.
@@SlikLizrd Ok, well, up here in Ontario it's been a reliable clue. But it's anecdotal and folklore.
@@badad0166 The famous 95 MERC was built in Ontario. It had a tag from the Factory, but NO "posi".
It was DELIIVERED to Florida, but has spent the past 19 years in the Arizona desert. Not a speck of rust -- anywhere. 😁
@@SlikLizrd Gotta P71 with fender rust gonna goober it with hair. Had a Marquis from that era but open diff never looked for a tag. All of my knowledge comes from police car auction cars so that may skew the results. Enjoy your '95. I miss the bells and whistles, especially keyless entry and all the mileage gizmos...
@@badad0166 I confess - I don't know jack about P-71s -- was never interested in playing cop 😁
I bought a low-mileage, rust-free, comfortable car -- and made it to fit my requirements.
Now at 182,000 miles, running clean and strong. Panthers RULE !! 😁
Put in 411 gears while you're at it.
NAH. That's a dick move -- You'll use A LOT MORE GAS, you'll LOWER your TOP SPEED, and your ENGINE will WEAR OUT SOONER.
do not do this he did not clean the diff at all it all wrong????????????
I am still waiting for the "flushing rear diff " part
@@ipkiss6375 didja see all that oooky black liquid running out all over?
