Will Diggs I have a 1997 Marquis with 252,000 miles and I paid $600 for it. Been driving it since 2017 and it’s still going strong. The AC still blows ice cold and the heater still works. Oh and the electric seats and windows still work. Radio doesn’t work. I drive it super easy and take good care Of it. Best $600 I ever spent.
I am the proud owner of a 2003 grand marquis GS. $3000 w/37k. A few scratches and flawless interior! I originally wanted a Town car, but I couldn't pass it up!
@@rajeshkumar-mo8tx Grand Marquis also has rear air suspension. And the air bags will eventually leak, causing the rear of the car to sit flat on the ground. They are very expensive to replace. I replace the ones in my 2006 with coil springs for around $200, and they work fine.
I'm from saudi Arabia I have 2011 grand marquis I bought it a new in 2011 for 24,000 $ Now it's 500,000 kilometers but it is run like a new I love my grand marquis
That was 4 years ago. I'm wondering if your car is still running because to reach 500k+ is incredible. I have an 06 Grand Marquis. Started with 89k miles, now it has close to 200k and runs great. I love the reliability
Nice video! I’m currently driving a 2002 grand Marquis 45,000 miles on it. It was my dad‘s he bought a brand new back in 02 he passed in December of 03 RIP Pops. Just bought it off my mom for six grand…beautiful car. I just gave it it’s first ever break change couple of weeks ago
I have had 4 or 5 Grand Marquis's. I can usually find one with less than 50,000 miles for a maximum of $7000. The last one I bought was a 2008 with 35000 on it. It looked new and is in great condition.
I bough a 2001 mgm in November 2017 . One owner 84 year old lady. I used this as a work car because of all the miles I drive. Have to admit I've had a few minor issues, but this is the most comfortable car I have ever owned. Cruises down the highway effortlessly. Huge seats and quiet. Ac will freeze your head solid.
I too, own a MGM....mine is pretty much a base model, a GS w/cloth interior....let everyone point and laugh at the big old cruiser with all the exterior plastic chrome and ostentatious metal 'wood' trim and lazy-boy style split bench seats....this beast of a machine will still be running smoothly and gliding on air by all these naysayers left on the shoulder of the highway with their hoods up and thumbs in the air......lol....NOW, WHO HAS THE LAST LAUGH?.😉
Same here. I have a '96 MGM with cloth interior. However, she's clean and reliable with no mechanical issues. I swapped in LED bulbs for the headlights (huge difference) and just put some '14 Mustang GT wheels on her. The extra grip the car now has is nutty
My parents used to have a 96 MGM...interior was identical from 95 all the way through to like 2002...the only difference is the steering wheel and SRS airbag assbly...these cars will go forever....just keep a check on thermostat/housing, esp if you have the all-plastic intake manifold..usually on later 90's early 2000..
Nice video own a 2010 Grand Marquis. Bought it Brand New off the showroom floor. Did a Magnaflow cat back exhaust, put in a 3:73 rear end, had it professionally tuned, with a k&n cold air intake, and swapped out for TSW Silverstone 18” lighter weight wheels. Car was amazing. In 2014 I bought a challenger RT off the showroom floor, and sold the grand Marquis to my brother. I missed the Grand Marquis so much I just bought it back from my brother and I love it. If this motor ever goes “let the building begin”. It is now my daily driver and it is so much car for the money. Well done video and thanks for bringing light to a vehicle that most can’t appreciate. 👍🏾💯
My '04 is at 190k. Bought in 2912 at 93K with all records. Mow it needs $1600 of front end suspension (debating). Only issues have been Air suspension, intake manifold gasket (design flaw) and a rear wheel seal.
@Say less I once drove my 01 off the curb from the parking lot I thought I was about to ruin my car but It was fine. I love my town car and plan on buying a new one.
Grand Marquis..The last of the good body on frame cars. For a V8 the fuel mileage really isn't that bad. The 2 valve 4.6 V8 is probably one of the most reliable engines made in the last 20yrs. I am giving my son my very good condition 2004 Ford F150 STX with the 4.6 2 valve as well as having a locking rear differential. Its going to be his graduation present this year. I am currently looking at used Grand Marquis for a new to me vehicle. (yes I would love a newer F-150,,but so expensive) What can you honestly buy out there today that comes close to the overall build quality of one of these cars in the up to 4K range..some 5 plus with extremely low miles. I love the 4.6 2 valve engine. In my truck it always had no issues doing a 1/2 ton trucks duties. Pulls my fiberglass bass boat down interstates without breaking a sweat with a mildly tuned lower hp V8. I would like the locking rear diff added to whatever G Marquis I purchase...Plenty of parts out there to make it happen.
@@germancavallo8277 Not a "locked" (welded) differential, but a Trac-Lok, as installed in any Panther chassis. The Trac-Lok provides excellent traction in slippery conditions, and it CAN be the reason you get home.
@@melvinharris7859 smoother shifting, smoother motor, far more reliable motor (with more maintenance but still longer lasting) heated and cooled seats , adaptive cruise control, seat memory, rear reclining seats, better quality leather, real wood accents, factory gps, factory nakamichi sounds system. I own and love my 2003 town car ultimate with 123k miles, but would trade for a well maintained ls430 with 200k in an instant. Go drive one and you'll see, this year was my first time in a Lexus 430, it was a 325k mile 2002 and it rode nicer than any car I've ever been in and I've been in allot of cars being a mechanic. 325,000 miles and no rattles, no creeks, shifted like butter, coldest ac I've felt in a car. Everything except the telescoping steering wheel worked.
@@mrsir2378 yes but try to find one that isn’t a shit box for under 4 k you can get these for 2gs all day and you can sell that once you got enough saved.
I just picked an 04 GMQ yesterday with 102k miles. Never beat on, very well maintained and I got it for what I think is a great price! I love it. There’s nothing else like it on any other platform!
Yeah I have a silver 2003 MGM Ultimate. Converted the rear air suspension to coil springs. The air bags were already leaking when I got it so I just solved that problem for life. Transmission has a broken accumulator spring, making the 1-2 shift jerk about 10% of the time. Converted the Y pipe single exit exhaust to true dual, no linkage pipe. Just two divorced 3" pipes right off the rear cats with side exits before the axle. Added Marauder headlights and corners, swapped in Crown Vic tails, tinted the tails in the S55 pattern, tinted the giant red rear fascia so it appears black. It's the daily and I abuse the whole hell out of it, so I'm not putting any more money into customization :)
I swear, these are really overlooked. Everyone talks about how the P71 is great, how the Marauder is a great sleeper, and how the Town Car is comfy, etc. In all honestly, I love all of these cars, but this deserves some more recognition. It's almost like everyone forgets it exists.
@@rileypearson3236 The Marauder is not the same as the P71 or any other counterpart. It received the DOHC 4.6 engine where every other panther car got the SOHC engine. But you are correct as three cars did carry the same internals. Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and the Town Car. There is an "up to speed" episode on the car by Donut Media.
Probably 1. the name 2. the whole stigma of it being a grandma car Honestly if i ever got one id just slap ford badges everywhere. Saying "i own a ford" is way better than trying to explain that mercurys are fords with a different name and badge
I got a 2004 in 2011 and she's still running to this day!! Alice is a Beauty. Best car I've ever had. Changed about 4 major parts plus minor cosmetic on the interior.
I'm addicted to buying grand marquis cars. I have owned 4 of them and will continue to buy them. The newer the model, the better. My 2001 lasted me 5 years with no major problems paid $2,500 for it. At 233,000 miles it's still going. Sold it to my nephew and he drives it alot. I now own a 2006 grand marquis. So sad they stopped making them. 😣
I have a 2002 Grand Marquis LS with 122,000 miles and I love it. I wish it was the 2003-2011 model because I like the body style a little better. Otherwise no complaints at all in 3 years of ownership; just maintenance oil changes.
GiveMeMyStyxhexenhammer666Plushie AndNoOneGetsHurt Love my 99LSC! These Panthers are the only AMERICAN CARS in the top 5 of most reliable on the road! Actually, #3! The others were Honda's and Toyota/ Lexus! That saying something! And stupid Ford, caved into Fuckhead OBAMA's " Cash for Clunkers" program, and stopped production in 2011! These cars aren't even gas guzzlers! About 16-24 miles per gallon on regular fuel! Now Ford is no longer going to make Cars! Even with the high sales of the Fusion! SUV's and F150 Trucks... That's their future! WTF?
I have a marquis on 24s. 235000 miles on it, regular tune ups, the big rims killed the rear so had to replace that other than that the car runs beautiful and is beautiful. Love my marquis.
Things have changed. Back in 2016, I bought a 69,000 mile 2006 Grand Marquis LS in excellent condition for $4500. Unfortunately it was Performance White, and is now half white and half gray. I still have it, and it still runs like new with 238,000 miles. I plan to wear it out. But I know it won't last forever, so just a couple of weeks ago I bought a one owner 2007 Grand Marquis LS with 36,000 actual miles on it. Even though I was a mechanic for 41 years, I had it inspected by another mechanic I've known for a long time, who has a hydraulic lift. Everything checked out. I paid $9000 for it. These cars are not cheap anymore. And really nice ones are few and far between. I consider $9000 for a like new super low mileage Grand Marquis that has been in AZ it's entire life a much better deal than the new $35,000 2022 Hyundai Accent my ex wife bought.
As a Crown Vic LX owner I can say that the P71/B is more fun and I'd rather have one of those if it's one that was an admin car and not a patrol car. However, the LX/MGM will get better MPG, is more comfortable and will most likely be more reliable due to less abuse. It's all in what you're looking for. Sadly due to salt (it's not bad but do I necessairly want to deal with all the incoming salt issues in a couple years? no) I'll be looking for a newer Crown Vic and the only option is pretty much going to be a 2010+ CVPI.
I love that you brought up the grandma example. My mother, 86 years old, has just offered me her 2008 mercury grand marquis. I call it the Palm Beach, cause that's what it says on her barely worn seats. Everything about this car is gold. I'm making a list of little additions and subtractions I want for it. I want to free it of emissions restrictions, without going overboard, I want to free up its lungs and do something with the exhaust, maximize its natural born get up and go. So far all I've found is mods that look cool if this were pimp my ride. I haven't seen a rim/tire yet that I like and I haven't heard from anyone who's lowered it a notch what if any restrictions result from doing so. I think I would rather not lower it if I'm going to run into problems with the suspension or scraping the carriage. I would rather hit speed bumps without needing to slow to a complete stop, I seem one that took out the bench seat for a couple buckets, that looked real cool. 4 of those instead of the two bench seats could be cool, but I can think of good use for the bench as well, yes sir
I own a 2001 Gran Marquis that my father in law bought new and I absolutely love it. I believe it has the same engine, transmission and air ride as the Lincoln Town Car. I already
I always refer to it as a poor man's Lincoln. My air conditioner still blows cold after 18 years (never had it charged!) and it still has the original factory air ride. I have 90,000 miles on it. You really can get a beautiful used one for $3,000. What a lovely ride.
Here's the real deal on an older Grand Marquis: 95 MERC Location: Phoenix, AZ., USA Grand Marquis Suspension Upgrades To improve the ride and handling of your Grand Marquis/ Crown Vic/ Town Car, a few suspension modifications will have your Panther chassis able to cruise the highways in safety AND comfort. Our Panthers respond very well to these mods, and the cost for parts is relatively low, considering the benefits. The most obvious modification is to abandon the "stock" shock absorbers in favor of the High-Pressure, Gas-charged type - I chose KYB "Gas-A-Just" shocks all-around, due to having used them in the past, and they performed very well. Made in Poland. Next on the list are the Control Arm Bushings -- "Stock" rubber bushings in both Upper & Lower Control Arms are replaced with Urethane Bushings, (I used Energy Suspension bushings) thus insuring that your wheel alignment adjustments will STAY where they're put for several years -- BIG savings in tire wear -- maintains precise steering -- excellent vehicle control. Next come the Stabilizer Bars (Sway Bars), which need attention, but no replacement for the FRONT sway bar. FRONT sway bar gets Greaseable Urethane Bushings (Energy Suspension) and Greaseable Sway Bar Links (MOOG). The REAR sway bar gets replaced with an ADDCO 1" Rear Sway Bar, and greaseable Urethane bushings (Energy Suspension) -- Rear sway bar End Links are replaced with Energy Suspension end links with urethane bushings. AFTER these mods are completed, be SURE to get a COMPUTERIZED WHEEL ALIGNMENT that gives you a Print-Out, so you can SEE that your alignment was done to specification. NO guesswork !! Your Panther will no longer pitch, rock, and/or sway, and there will be no more big-car "float" at high speeds. Cornering will now be flat and smooth, without annoying "Body Roll". Your expensive tires will last longer, too ! These mods were done on The 95 MERC several years ago, and all have proven to be of great value, both in performance, comfort, and safety. All parts mentioned above were purchased from RockAuto and Amazon. "Italian Lace" Wheels, Goodyear Comfortread Touring Tires-98T
Panther Suspension Modifications ADDCO 1" Rear Sway Bar (Top) I have completely reconstructed the entire front suspension of my Grand Marquis, using both stock and aftermarket parts. Ball Joints, Control Arm Bushings, Springs, Spring Isolators, Shocks, Sway Bar, Wheel Hubs, Brake Calipers, Police Brake Pads, and Drilled & Slotted Brake Rotors. Rebuilt suspension was designed for long distance, high-speed cruising in the mountains of the desert Southwest. Almost 50,000 miles on my rebuild -- "Computer" front end alignment is still perfect. When installing a Sway Bar and/or End Links on a Grand Marquis, BOTH front wheels should be completely off the ground -- best way is to support both sides of the frame on jack-stands. End Links won't line up if only one wheel is off the ground. If End Links are damaged, REPLACE them ! Best (and cheapest) handling improvement comes from URETHANE bushings for the Sway Bar and the Control Arms. Urethane control-arm bushings will hold your front end in perfect alignment -- use "computer alignment" ONLY , and tell the technician to "set it at the nominals". I also added a 1" Sway Bar and Urethane End Links to the rear. The 95 MERC handles very well at all speeds, with flat cornering and great stability in cross-winds. KYB "Gas-A-Just" -- (gas-pressurized @ 150 psi) shocks all around. Custom Dual Exhaust Exits; Superior Tips
Thanks for the video! My 2003 Grand Marquis GS has 224k miles and runs like BRAND NEW!! Spent more money in impound for tickets and maintenance than I did for the car.... got it for 1500$ from a old lady 1 owner with 165k miles 1 year later 224k miles. LOVE THIS CAR!!!!
09 GM with Marauder sway bars, rear cargo coil springs and a conservative jmod to improve the shift. It's the ultimate grandpa car. The only thing missing is dual exhaust.
my concern with all vehicles "owned and driven by grandma" is that they probably got little or no maintenance done to them. So even though they probably weren't redlined and driven hard, they probably got as much (or more) wear due to refusal to change the fluids.
WJ Handy Dad Just run some 5W20 with some Marvel Mystery Oil 4 quarts 5W20 1 quart MMO. Drive it 1000 miles change the oil to preferred weight. Personally I run either the 5W30 or 10W30. The 10W30 only because mine has 255k.
I buy and flip cars a lot and with my experience as well as with friends, family, neighbors etc that are "grandma/grandpa" types is that they are the ones that typically over maintain their vehicles and the types of owners I seek out when buying used cars as they usually buy new, with cash, then own them for 10 years plus then sell them with a folder full of maintenance records. They usually go to dealers for maintenance and not quickly lube's......That's what I have experienced and witnessed instead of just assuming they are cheap and lazy and looking for convenience compared to a typical middle aged person who is rushing around and leasing cars every 3 or so years running kids to and from places sitting in traffic and burning through brakes and tires and finding time to change their oil when it's already 6 months overdue..
@@mikeharris3293 I agree with you. My Marquis' first owner was an old lady, and all of her receipts we're from a Ford dealership. The next owner definitely took care of it to getting the oil changed at 3k miles/4 months
@@mikeharris3293 yes, if you find someone who over maintains their vehicle (like I do), then you find a gem (whenever I sell my vehicles people who know me know they are getting a good, well maintained vehicle and I disclose everything I know about). Unfortunately that's the exception rather than the rule in my experience.
I have a 99 Grande MarquisLSC 153,000 miles, silver metallic bucket leather seats dual exhaust! She's a bitch! Power? Hell yeah! 0-60 in 7-8 seconds! No scratches, dings, rust! Bought her 6 years ago for $2,000! She's going to outlive me! Lol
I have a 95 grand marquis and it drove like a cloud for bout 7 months. I've had to have every part on both sides of front end fixed numerous times from sway bar breaking. Great engine! Horrible front end issues!! I never noticed how many of these type cars I hear making front end noises till I bought mine.
Fellow 2003 LS owner here, you can also use seats out of the town ars, direct bolt in. And I believe all back windows are the same. All years. Vic-marquis lol
This is exactly the situation I went through bout a year ago I was looking for a decent mileage P71, but I could not find one that did not have a ton of idle hours, been beat to death, interior gutted, and if I could find one it was way over priced. Then I had a thought.....look for a Mercury Grand Marquis.....typically very well taken care of, hardly abused, low idle hours, interior is usually in great shape....you get all the benefits of a P71 without all the disadvantages. My car was a one owner 2006, 62K, driven by an elderly lady, interior was immaculate, paint like brand new, runs and drives like a brand new car.....on average I drive over 100 miles a day and nothing drives or runs better man its great I will never sell it!!!
Helped my buddy buy one. Bought a 2005 with cracked intake for 700 with 96k miles. Patched intake with jb weld, fixed. A week later had 3 misses replaced spark plugs, fixed. Now it rips. Clean title. Clean leather. Power everything and everything works. Did have to replace idler arm and a couple other front suspension parts but all repairs stayed under 150 dollars. Now it's a dope ass comfortable bad ass ride. Now looking for one for myself, buddy is thinking about flipping his. Love em.
Yeah, but the marauder comes with a 4 valve per cylinder dual OVC. Puts out about 50 more ponies. Basically it’s the mustang cobra motor. Slap a supercharger or turbo on there with a good exhaust, 373 gears and BAM, 500 HP.
I'm on my 6th Grand Marquis, a 2003 Grand Marquis CTE Custom in the last 25 years. Bought with 44,000 miles and now have 197,000 on it. I keep them until 225,000-250,000 miles on them. Except for everyone replacing the intake manifold once or twice in their lifetime, these cars are indestructible. Yes, I will be buying another in a year or 2. With many back surgeries with steel rods in my back and down my left leg, these cars are so comfortable. Always bought them from the elderly as they only drive to church and grocery store once a week. Hell, they've never been over 55 mph on the highway. Buy from the elderly! Nothing like a rear wheel drive V8 powered car. Next one will be a 2010. Last full production year. Also the insurance industry has Grand Marquis a 5 out of 5 star safety rating. Consumer Reports has it 5 out of 5 stars for trouble free reliability and maintenance.
Good advice for the budget minded buyer. But I did buy a 2004 Marauder and I am not budget minded. Here is what you do to ANY Panther platform car 2003 and up (3rd generation for the rack and pinion front suspension) to make it into a "rollerskate-on-a-rail" handling beast that can keep up with C6 Corvettes in the twistys. I'll list them in order of importance and effectiveness. For myself these modifications all started with the stock 18" Marauder rims and two of them were widened 1-1/2" to put Nitto street drag radials on the back. *None of these mods can work well enough to make up for bad tires!* The stock Marauder BF Goodrich's are quite good but don't last. I have 8 rims, one set of Yokohama's as grocery getters, and one set of Nitto's with those widened rims for when I go to teach the Corvettes a lesson on how to drive. BTW the Nittos wear out faster than the BF Goodrich's. lol 1) - KVR 14" front rotors. Having good brakes is paramount. With my KVR setup I can come to a complete stop from 60 mph in less than 100 feet. You must ratchet the seat belts and cinch them up tight to keep from sliding out from under them. With practice you will be able to go into a turn and wait until the last millisecond to apply hard braking and come off the brake in time to take the turn while that C6 is telling himself you're going to go off the curve. This is where you begin to leave him! (note: Drilled holes and slots are for wet braking performance and do nothing to improve dry performance. In fact they remove mass from the rotor and do not help cooling enough to make up for the loss of the heat sink mass. They are there to let the steam out of the pad surface so it won't oppose the braking force of the piston, so you don't need both.) 2) - Torsen T2 differential with 31 spline axles. Regardless of the gear ratio, *and especially if you have Traction-Loc,* you must have differentiation coming out of the turns. As you come out of the turn you can kick down, do a 3-1 shift, and the tires will both differentiate and not lose traction, keeping you on the road. This is where you pull away from that C6! 3) - ADDCO 1-1/4" rear sway-bar. This limits body roll and keeps the car flatter in those turns, especially the rear tires so they can work well with the T2. *Do NOT beef up the front bar!* You must have some independence on the heavy end of the car to keep from bouncing off the turn when there are bumps. 3) - Metco billeted aluminum, polyurethane-bushed rear control arms and Watts links. This eliminates any side-to-side movement of the rear end, making for steady transitions from left to right. 4) - QA1 dual adjustable racing shocks on all 4 corners. BTW the Metco's are necessary if you want to put widened rims on the back, which you can only do with these shocks. My Nitto's clear the shock rod by just 1/8" but never touch the tire. With these shocks you can adjust the compression to be easier than the rebound and as the car goes faster, the bumps in the road will cause the shocks to make the car squat lower and lower. My guess is Quicksilver (that's her name) is 1" lower at 140 than when sitting still. 5) - Optional, MMX Metal's 200 mph driveshaft. Does nothing for the handling except peace-of-mind for the driver not having to worry about flipping the car end-over-end if the front u-joint breaks. You could put on a front loop for that instead, but that won't keep a broken U-joint from beating up the car if either joint breaks at 140. All this costed me about $7000. Quicksilver is truly a wonder to drive. At 140 she is smooth as glass and she really does outrun those C6's as well as two-seater BMW's and Mercedes' in the turns, all of them with 100 to 150 more horsepower than my measly 302 HP. I wouldn't dare try to outrun a cop anywhere, but on the street or on a curvy country road, Quicksilver is a police interceptor *interceptor!* There is no car I've run into that she can't stay right on their A$$ or leave in the dust on a curvy road. She's a CAN-AM CAN DO street car. With ALL of those creature comforts you told us about in your video. Now you know what to do to make your Grand Marquis keep up with me... ...oh, but you'll need an all aluminum, 32 valve, dual overhead-cam 4.6L engine too. Or you could just start by buying a Marauder first. lol
Ladamyre - good list. You forgot the last, most important mod. A Vortech supercharger! 449rwhp and 406rw torque. For between the corners... IMHO all panthers should have come this way from the factory. Love this car!
@@4doorstang724 I'm not a big fan of blowers. I'm old enough to remember the old days of the NHRA when Big Daddy set the standard for Top Fuel Dragsters and put himself in front of the engine. As a technician I know a blower is robbing HP off the front of the engine and is inefficient. To me, blowers are for diesel engines that need to make a lot of torque and antique flathead gas engines. Or on a P47, which of course also had a turbocharger too. lol Early in 2003 Jerry Barnes designed and I think still sells the Trilogy, a blower setup for Marauders. Back in 2004 it was $5000: has everything you need; bigger fuel pump, injectors and MAF sensor, even a reversed roller clutch pulley for the alternator which has to be turned around to fit. The roller clutch is a good mod for an alternator on any car with a serpentine belt because it keeps the alternator from throwing the belt off or damaging it when you do that downshift and engine speed drops 2000 RPM. (And the belt tries to make the alternator speed drop 5000 RPM INSTANTLY!) If I were to add a power mod it would be a turbocharger. When it comes to drag racing there's nothing better and it beats blowers by far because the spooling up "problem" (which isn't much of a problem these days) isn't an issue on a drag strip. Maybe the first 60 feet but after that a proper turbo setup will make much more power than a blower. ...and you'll get better gas mileage on the highway when you're not hot-dogging it. But I really don't need it. For me it's all about handling. I like drag racing to be sure, but having 450 horses to go to the grocery store... it's overkill.
Or just get a premium trim Grand Marquis and call it a day. MUCH easier. Best of both worlds. It's a car that has similar Town Car interior, with similar Crown Vic exterior. AND air ride like the Town Car.
I just got a 2005 model,281k but suspension and steering really tight. No leaks anywhere. Was my step dad's car at one time. Only work he did was a new a/c system and a belt tensioner. 20mpg on the road. Rides wonderfully. A couple minor paint spots, clear coming off the chrome trim.
Something that I never hear or see talked about with Panthers is worn suspension. Suspension parts failures at around 100k of civilian use in Grand Marquis are very common. 2/2 of my MGMs (2003 and 2008) were purchased at 120k and 97k respectively, both with worn suspension. The 2003 had leaking rear air shocks, 4 severely worn ball joints, A-arms, and struts. It costed about $2000 to replace all of this, but my local mechanic had the welder do some exhaust for free, which was great. The 2008 I just bought needed struts really bad. That's $190 per Motorcraft strut, plus 2 hours labor, about $600. The front end still doesn't feel just right on the 2008, but everything else was inspected by the trusted mechanic. Watch how people drive over speed bumps at 25mph and you'll soon see why this is the case. My BEFORE you buy a Mercury Grand Marquis advice is this: ram it over speed bumps in the test drive (go to a school or shopping center) and make sure the front end doesn't bottom out or feel loose. Park the car and put the windows down, turn the A/C or heat off, radio off, and turn the wheel all the way left and all the way right - listen for pops, which would indicate worn ball joints. Sometimes Grand Marquis' get sold out of an estate sale and have sat in a garage or driveway for a long time. This can cause the suspension to settle in some unnatural ways, making it seem like there's more wear on the suspension. Putting the car on a lift for 30 minutes can allow grease to move around in the ball joints and make them work correctly. Sagging coil springs can also sometimes be fixed this way, just stretch them out by putting it on the lift. If any of these problems arise, go ahead and deduct $1500 from the fair purchase price or walk away. There's also the steering columns at least on 2008-2011 model MGMs and CVs. They get worn out and introduce a lot of play in the steering wheel. This can result in an accident as you basically lose control if you hit a bump. A bumpy gravel driveway takes away about 40% of the steering control you have, as you'll need to turn the wheel very far to get steering response in these conditions. I experienced this in a 2009 CV P70 LWB fleet package. The only solution was to replace the whole column with one from the junkyard, about $250 for the part, 1-2 hours labor. I traded that car in, as it also had a cracked intake, busted/rusted shocks, leaking trans, and an oil leak. Good thing I only bought it for $2k with 98k, and this was when 2009 wasn't old yet.
I have 238,000 miles on my 2006 Grand Marquis LS, and the only suspension parts I've replaced were the rear air bags and shocks. I actually replaced the air bags with coil springs. Under $250 in NEW parts, I did the work myself, took less than 2 hours. Front suspension is all original and in good condition. Even if you have to replace all 4 ball joints, both shocks and springs, the complete upper control arms, and the sway bar links and bushings, you are looking at $500-$600 in aftermarket parts, and any mechanically inclined person can do the job themselves. My steering is fine, the rack and pinion steering in 2003 and up models can last past 400,000 miles. It has zero oil leaks. I did install an aftermarket transmission pan with a drain plug, and replace the transmission fluid every 9,000 miles, and the filter every 27,000 miles. I change the engine oil and filter every 3000 miles. Running these cars with dirty oil and trans fluid will damage the seals.
Gerald, I'm in favor of frequent maintenance. May I ask how you came to 9,000 miles for tyranny fluid change & 27,000 for filters? Was fluid getting burnt smell or finding metal in filters? Ford says tranny is a lifetime unit with no service needed. No one knows what that means. Do you always change oil every 3,000 miles or every 5 months? Our MGM LS is 20 years old at 44,000. CARFAX shows numerous Ford dealer servicing for this car. Some mechanics have questioned servicing more than factory engineers have specified. Not me. But I want the extra effort to be worthwhile. Thank you for the good info in yout comment! Wolf
I straight piped my 07 GM. Removed spare tire. And man oh man. That V8 is NO joke. Sometimes I arrive at home and think to myself, this thing is a borderline sports car. Altho muscle car. Its very powerful. Not slow at all. Cruises at 100mph like a playful puppy.
2005 LS Ultimate Edition. I bought it for $5600 in 2022, and it had little over 71,200 miles on it. The guy I bought it from got it from an auction not too long before and put dual pipes and flow master mufflers on it (So it sounds like a beast), but just before that it was owned by a retired sheriff who barely drove it and garage kept it. Just hit 100,700 miles today. I'm slowly upgrading it to be more performance oriented, eventually gonna build it up to be essentially a supercharged marauder. Love that car to death, the best car ford ever built, hands down!
I've owned everything from the crown victoria civilian and currently a police interceptor, mercury marquis the older bubble style and a Lincoln town car. I loved my crown Victoria lx sport out of all. The 95 grand marquis I owned was decent for its age and gave me little to no trouble. I owned 2 town cars a 96 and a 99. I was in the market a month ago for a lx sport cv grand marquis or town car. In my area there isn't much for the price range. I settled for a 2010 crown vic police interceptor with 111k on it. After owning for a month and it runs very strong transmission pulls hard but I've noticed some things that have me asking myself why the hell did I buy it. If I had it to start over again I'd try to find a town car or lx sport. Not sure what the future holds on the cvpi it's a daily driver as of now
I have a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis CTE "Custom Tasca Edition" with 200,000 miles on it. Bought it with 48,000 miles and it's the 6th Grand Marquis I have bought over the last 25 years. The most reliable V8 rear wheel drive car there is. Very comfortable ride with all the power accessories. Everyone I bought was from an elderly couple who used it once a week for grocery shopping and to church. Never been over 55 mph and never beat on. Always well taken care of.
But what about the spotlight!! Hahah so not kidding a bit I drive my 08 p71 daily and on my way home 90% of the time I'm either in front of by 1-2 cars or behind a super clean champagne colored grand marquis, well today I was directly behind it and I was thinking to myself the same thing, that thing looks like it has zero abuse and would be a nice driver, but then I got home and took a double take at my interceptor with the black steelies wearing the eagle ultra grips and the setina push bumper and thought to myself.... Nahhh lol
Love your channel. Preach it about the Gran Marquis. I own a 97 that I bought for 1000 back in 15. When I bought it had 215k now has 255k. Right after I bought it took a 500 mile one edge trip in it. Only thing I did was change the oil to 5W/20 , so it would flush the engine somewhat. Driving 70 + avg 27 mpg. Currently run 5W30 or 10W30 and still get about 23 mpg to 25 mpg. Try that in a 4 banger and all cramped up. It is not the lx with the leather and all but I love it. No the downside. It did have a couple of minor repairs, brake lines and shift linkage. I will probably have to get rid of it. Why? Rust. The previous owner never washed it. The front underside is rusted bad. To the point I was advised the front frame would need to be cut out and a new (junkyard) clean frame welded in. Remember Ford with the Crown Victoria had a recall on some of them about rust. But I am already looking around for one.
My dad has a 67' and we have two grand marquise's a 98 and my 05, and a 79 stingray, and a 67 Mustang, and a 58 bel air, they need quite a bit of work, but not too much. Lots of v-8's
I own a 2001 MGM GS has all the bells and whistles leather seats wood grain and chromed out the wazooo !! With only 115k miles runs great. The only thing about these cars after 100k you have to replace the entire suspension front and rear . But the cost for that is really reasonable for $800 . It’s ready for another 100k miles in my opinion the worse thing about these cars is the junky intake! But do a Dorman upgrade and your good . And far as looks heck from 97 to 2011 same car except thicker headlights.
Got an ‘05 Grand Marquis of my own. My first car. Initially wasn’t thrilled with driving it to high school and looking like a grandpa at 16 years old. Been 5+ years with her and haven’t doubted the decision ever since. I love everything about these cars, ultimate road trip car; with the cushiony cloth seats, it makes a 6 hour road trip feel like 6 hours on my TV room couch. Historically reliable, and oh it’s road presence? Hardly rivaled, especially when it’s black and tinted all the way around like mine. An unbelievably undervalued car that’s overlooked by most.
Bro great channel, been watching for about a year here in Tampa/Clearwater. Just brought a 96 Grand Marquis for $70 from an older man, it needed a heater core and the pitman and idler arms replaced. So i bypassed the heater core for now and I'm doing the pitman arm, already did the idler arm. I'm looking to buy another grand mar for my sister who drives a windstar(bad rear axle recall)
Thank god for this big ass car saved my mom and myself. Got rear ended by a truck going 66 crushed the trunk and all into the front seats, if that was any other car if smaller I'm sure we be gone.
I bought a 2011 Grand Marquis Ultimate 1 owner grandma car in 2015 with 28k actual miles for 9k $. She’s a dream to drive and oh so comfortable. Good Video and YT channel!
This guy ain’t lyin . I bought my 05 grand marquis for 1.9 k . A steal . She purs beautifully, the leather seats and armrest are comparable to your lazyboy in your living room . Most comfy car I’ve ever driven . And it fits a double din touchscreen which I’ve already put in . 👌 going for the chrome bull bar soon .
Yes, I totally agree...mine is a '98 MGM GS model...Spruce green with almost 200,000 miles...is a joy to drive and floats like a steamboat navigating the mighty Mississip...i believe the traditional segmented grille on the '98-'02 is more attractive and in line with all the classic styling of earlier more well known Mercs...ie, 1949 grille ...the newer 'waterfall' design is ok if u have no imagination or don't mind thinking that ppl will mistake it for a ...ugh..BUICK!...The vertical height with the round badge in the center...and the triple angled Mercury logo from a distance DOES INDEED resemble the round Buick emblem with it's three slanted ascending shields...C'mon...I can't be the only one who noticed that!...lol
bought my 2002 4 years ago for $1200(cdn) with 130kmiles. Paint is in fantastic condition and still almost like new. a month or two does not pass by without getting positive comments from individuals or ask if l plan on selling it. hardly any maintenance issues apart from replacing a gas emission part($12) and 2 ignition coil on spark plugs. two years ago l went to see my father in montreal from St Stephen NB and was surprised to see 28 MPG on highway. l would buy another one. My father thought it was a steal and a classic.
Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town car, from 2003-2011 those cars are very well built, and they are very good car and 2000-2011 Cadillac DeVille are also favorite car
I have one also. Bought it with 30k about 10 years ago and have almost 150k on it now. The intake was replaced a few weeks back and honestly I runs so darn good. My kid is driving it now that he's 16. Big, comfy, pretty zippy with the different rear gears (same as most police packages I believe). Only downer is that rear end hurts gas mileage about 3 - 5mpg compared to the typical granny version. Enjoy the LSE, hard package to find.
I've got a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis LS with just over 75,000 miles on it. I bought it in 2006 with 25,600 miles on it. I just replaced the rack and pinion steering, I also have the two passenger windows not working and no A/C, but she has a lot of power and drives nice. I live in Florida and have only gone without the A/C for about five and a half years now. Eventually I'll get around to fixing those things, I do have a fan for the summer time.
So glad I was gifted a 97 GS...110k ..owner paid $2,000... perfect body, headliner, purrs ...couch on wheels and 30 mpg... looking forward to the next 150k miles!!!
01 Grand Marquis GS ragtop white with spoiler, racing stripes, dual forced air induction scoops, pi cams, throttle body spacer, cold air induction short ram air intake. 116k miles. runs like a champ every day.
i'm on my 3rd P71 which is a 2008 and never had a transmission go out me yet and i've put 20,000 miles on my 08 in less than 10 months, i must lucky with these transmissions
Just bought a cherry 99 Grand Marquis GS with the steering package. I bought a church/groceries/church again mobile. It's classy and sharp. Some may say it's a grand ma/pa mobile. I say it's clean, comfortable af, rides like a cloud, and you have to love the 4.6l V8 under the hood. Edit: I was looking at a Town Car same year, but it shouted Grandma to me. The Marquis has a more agressive stance, and body styling. With the same ride quality.
I know you’re talking about the newer generation but I’ve been driving my 96 and 97 grand marquis for 18 years now. I’d argue they are even more reliable than the newer generation. The 96 is now LS1 swapped. Best thing I ever did to that car. Finally has some balls
Got a Beige 2004 Crown Victoria LX just like that grand marquis complete with cloth bench seats & wood trim interior & chrome finish exterior. Used to be a rental car then was purchased by a farmer for his wife. Beautiful car and still putting out at 25000km under its belt. (Only mods Added cold air intake & throttle body spacer to maximize fuel efficiency, bottle neck muffler chrome tipped & a trailer hitch lol)
Thx for this review. Got my Dad's '05 GM a few years back as my 2nd car. Don't drive it that much, yet decided to to the bypass project and get rid of the air suspension due to rotted out air bags. Yet have all the parts and may go back to that. some electrical window issues due to moisture. Other then this, no issues. I think I need to drive it a bit more and tune it up.
I got a 98 Marquis that i bought for 600 bucks been driving it almost 3 years...Totally worth it
i just bought one
How many miles do u have on ir
Will Diggs I have a 1997 Marquis with 252,000 miles and I paid $600 for it. Been driving it since 2017 and it’s still going strong. The AC still blows ice cold and the heater still works. Oh and the electric seats and windows still work. Radio doesn’t work.
I drive it super easy and take good care
Of it.
Best $600 I ever spent.

I am the proud owner of a 2003 grand marquis GS. $3000 w/37k. A few scratches and flawless interior! I originally wanted a Town car, but I couldn't pass it up!
Damn that’s a REAL good deal!! I got mine about 6months ago and paid $3000 for 2007 w/92k
Grand marquis is nicer than a Lincoln town car. Lincoln town car floats too much because of the air suspension. Grand marquis can whip it
Calling bull shit
1900$ with studded winters and summers. Few rust spots but I got. Steal
@@rajeshkumar-mo8tx Grand Marquis also has rear air suspension. And the air bags will eventually leak, causing the rear of the car to sit flat on the ground. They are very expensive to replace. I replace the ones in my 2006 with coil springs for around $200, and they work fine.
I'm from saudi Arabia I have 2011 grand marquis I bought it a new in 2011 for 24,000 $
Now it's 500,000 kilometers but it is run like a new
I love my grand marquis
MUSTABEDable mashallah , thats 310k miles ! i just bought an 08 grand marquis for $1200 with only 110k miles . it was a steal for sure
Change oil and filter every 5k km and this thing will run for ever. Service transmission every 45k km or once per year and it will last too.
That was 4 years ago. I'm wondering if your car is still running because to reach 500k+ is incredible. I have an 06 Grand Marquis. Started with 89k miles, now it has close to 200k and runs great. I love the reliability
awesome
I miss my Marquis. Reliable, comfortable, boat car. I mean that in the best of ways, much simpler than the Mercedes I currently own.

@@frankcedenoiii6313 these cars will run forever. Not perfect but pretty sure I'll get another 100k out of it, no problem.
Oh... yeah and it was $2000. Best money I've ever spent
Lincoln town car is the best panther platform car , it's the smoothest and doesn't pretend to be anything else but a comfortable luxury car.

Stu650Zuk why would you want a locker differential in a car?
@@germancavallo8277 Not a "locked" (welded) differential, but a Trac-Lok, as installed in any Panther chassis. The Trac-Lok provides excellent traction in slippery conditions, and it CAN be the reason you get home.

I just picked an 04 GMQ yesterday with 102k miles. Never beat on, very well maintained and I got it for what I think is a great price! I love it. There’s nothing else like it on any other platform!
I bought an 04 like new at a dealership with 32k mileage and oil changed every 1000 miles! Paid 9k but could not walk away from this gem
I agree. I found a very well maintained '96 with 141k on it. And I got a great deal on it too.
I just picked up a 95 for cheap. Love the car.
It’s because of the name ... all three are literally THE SAME DAMN CARS
Probably 1. the name 2. the whole stigma of it being a grandma car

They are also set up for dual exhaust, rear sway bar etc if you want to boost the ride up a bit.
In the car world nowadays they still seem to be a great value buy.
I just bought a 2007 with 68,000 miles. It will most likely outlive me.

Panther Suspension Modifications
ADDCO 1" Rear Sway Bar (Top)
I have completely reconstructed the entire front suspension of my Grand Marquis, using both stock and aftermarket parts.

Have a 2004 ls ultimate, great car, I" d rather have the grandma stigma than todays crossover 'Dork' stigma. lol
Does it still run
09 GM with Marauder sway bars, rear cargo coil springs and a conservative jmod to improve the shift. It's the ultimate grandpa car. The only thing missing is dual exhaust.
my concern with all vehicles "owned and driven by grandma" is that they probably got little or no maintenance done to them. So even though they probably weren't redlined and driven hard, they probably got as much (or more) wear due to refusal to change the fluids.
WJ Handy Dad
Just run some 5W20 with some Marvel Mystery Oil 4 quarts 5W20 1 quart MMO.
Drive it 1000 miles change the oil to preferred weight. Personally I run either the 5W30 or 10W30. The 10W30 only because mine has 255k.
As if there's some teenager some where killing themselves to go get an oil change.😒
I have a 2000 grand marquis with 263,674miles on its and still a beast love my car 🚘
I have a 2000 grandmarquis holding up good
I bought a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis LS in February. I love this car. It looks just like this one
Lol
Got a 2010 grand marquis and it's my favorite car I've ever owned.
2003 LS owner... So many parts are interchangeable, you can easily swap out suspension if you Kno your panthers. 2003-2005
I just bought a 2009 Grand marquis LS ultimate edition. It’s my first car. I love it.
me too 2009
i brought myself a marquis 05 LS with 106k miles for 2k and i love it 😎
Cashing_Checks I’m supposed to get a 06 tomorrow that’s why I’m here lol
@@4the1hood0 did you end up getting it ? if so hows it been ? im looking at 06 LS right now.
Slap a supercharger or turbo on there with a good exhaust, 373 gears and BAM, 500 HP.
jasonneal yeah but you reliability will go out the window, especially with a supercharger!
The Mercs have always been my favorite since I think they are the best looking and are almost just as luxurious as the lincoln
I've owned a 1996 Bayshore Edition Grand Marquis. Absolutely the cleanest two tone leather interior.
I got a 03 crown vic lx presidential (P74) with the lether top. Its an awesome car
Presidental p74?. Thats a new one in my books😐
Not a factory option, installed regionally by custom shops
BTW the Nittos wear out faster than the BF Goodrich's. lol
1) - KVR 14" front rotors. They are there to let the steam out of the pad surface so it won't oppose the braking force of the piston, so you don't need both.)
2) - Torsen T2 differential with 31 spline axles.
Or on a P47, which of course also had a turbocharger too. lol
Early in 2003 Jerry Barnes designed and I think still sells the Trilogy, a blower setup for Marauders. (And the belt tries to make the alternator speed drop 5000 RPM INSTANTLY!)
If I were to add a power mod it would be a turbocharger.
You can also just buy a clean p7b interceptor and put some Grand Marquis door panels on it and some town car seats and call it a day
Or just get a premium trim Grand Marquis and call it a day. MUCH easier. Best of both worlds. It's a car that has similar Town Car interior, with similar Crown Vic exterior. AND air ride like the Town Car.
Watch a video where a dude swapped seats, nightmare! Different connections
@@mr.carguy3161 I switched my bags for Swedish steel springs and it rides and handles way better. 03 LSE ultimate
@@robertvilliard6768 huh. I may look into that. Thanks
Complete, new chrome is only $75
Something that I never hear or see talked about with Panthers is worn suspension.

My 97 Grand Marquis is a great car as well
I love my 97 she runs
Mine made over 350hp to the rear tires..A bunch of suspension and brake work. The car hurt so many feeling.
James Robinson I have a 98...and I love her...
99 here. Margaret is a classy lady.
Was the best year I owned
Not sure what the future holds on the cvpi it's a daily driver as of now
My crown vic lx was best car I ever owned.got totaled and flirted with a maurader but did not
I have 205k miles on my LX Sport ....only issues was the intake (2).
Got a 1999 Mercury Grand marquis ls for $1k . Works fine..gets me to point A to point B just fine. Paint is fading but idc
Nahhh lol
After 4 years of searching and I finally got one!!!! 2003 with just 50k miles!
I have a 2004 mercury grand marquis LS ultimate edition :)
My first car too.
My 03 is a limited edition

Ayla Hunter mine is that ugly dark red color, idk what it’s called though
Got a 2000 Grand Marquis LS, just hit 198k last night! Still running strong.
Just bought a 02 marquis LS 93,000 og miles 1 owner cleanest one I've seen white with blue leather. Rides so smooth
What happened to the ford galaxy????
My dad has a 67' and we have two grand marquise's a 98 and my 05, and a 79 stingray, and a 67 Mustang, and a 58 bel air, they need quite a bit of work, but not too much. Lots of v-8's
Rust.
Stop giving out the secrets man! 🤣🤣🤣
Town car beats them all smoothist ride out there an last forever
Town cars are ugly
Just bought a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis for 2400. 90000 original miles and passed right on through inspection. Got to say, I am very happy.
Oh so now p71's have bad transmissions, bad diffs and intake manifolds that crack funny I've had 9 and not one of these problems
And i have a 2004 marquis and had a cracked intake manifold.....they all have the same manifold so idk what he talking bout
I will stick to my Towncar Signature L thank you!
99-02 are the hardest running out of em all

I bought a 2011 Grand Marquis Ultimate 1 owner grandma car in 2015 with 28k actual miles for 9k $. She’s a dream to drive and oh so comfortable. Good Video and YT channel!
This guy ain’t lyin . I bought my 05 grand marquis for 1.9 k . A steal . She purs beautifully, the leather seats and armrest are comparable to your lazyboy in your living room . Most comfy car I’ve ever driven . And it fits a double din touchscreen which I’ve already put in . 👌 going for the chrome bull bar soon .
I bought an 03 back in 15 for 500 bucks in great condition with 295,000 miles. She's gotten rougher now but I still love it
I have a 2001 Grand Marquis in my opinion I like the older ones better they had that classic front end but also had that modernized rear end
I have a 2001 grand marquis. 202000 miles. Just installed new suspension and steering. Still runs like new.
bought my 2002 4 years ago for $1200(cdn) with 130kmiles.
Just got me a week ago a grand marquis lse this car is so comfortable plus love the shifter on the floor.
@@rickbarney3960 right on.mine had 54 plus miles this is gonna be an extra car or kind of a weekend car.
54k miles, how much did you give (if you don't mind sharing). Good weekend cruiser.
@@rickbarney3960 3800.
@@pancho1071 nice score! Thanks for the info.....enjoy that car this summer. 😀
I picked up on 06 from a "car guy". Engine compression was between 195 to 205 psi on all 8. Its mint! Great driver.
I’ve got a 96 Bayshore Edition and I love it. Only 90k miles and runs great!
