I got my mercury grand marquis with barely 28K miles. I replaced the fluid and i freaked out when i saw the plug, had no idea what it was. Great video, great car
Good camera work -- thanks for that !! Ford Motor Company specifies MERCON V for your Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, or Town Car. There is NO "next best thing". Your Shift Pointer needs adjustment. After initial filling, the fluid level is to be checked HOT (driven for 10 miles). Your Temp Guage showed "cold". Take it easy -- you're still learning. 😁
@@LoveWhatYouDrive A tip: If yer gonna KEEP the car: If you can, drain the Torque Converter. If your trans pan has a bump on the bottom, get a pan with a drain plug (Rock Auto). Very excellent work, but I would like to warn you that a little old oil remains in torque converter, and if you want not a drop of old oil to remain in the transmission, you must use this device (torque converter) to clean the entire oil cycle in the transmission. I noticed that there are excess iron filings in the magnets. I advise you to replace one can of transmission oil with treated Lucas oil. I wish you good luck.
Best to use carburetor cleaner instead of brake parts cleaner for the gasket. Brake cleaner contains methanol that can cause rubber parts to deteriorate faster.
On my 2000 Grand Marquis I put a Dorman drain plug transmission pan on. My torque converter has a drain plug and I let it drain, after removing the filter, overnight. It took at least two gallons of Ford Mercon V. I agree with comments on that pan, replace the metal washer with a fiber one and tighten until it stops leaking. The next time I will not replace the Motorcraft filter, just drain and refill. At 67,000 miles the original looked clean but, I also replace all maintenance items when get a used car.
