    Seems rFactor 2 DOES have flat spots, however I was unable to notice them, nor bust the tyres due to them. Might need to test again in case there was something wrong with my setup (and actually you can see the incar view lol, that was the least of my issues getting this game working).

    • @matthewmcewen1
      @matthewmcewen1 3 роки тому +18

      Not sure how you missed it. Maybe a deficiency of your wheel (using a G29 or something that doesn't support the relevant vibration)? I have a T-GT and it is unbelievably obvious and frustrating when I get flat spotting.
      Yes, I'm aware of the other comments about flat spotting, I'm just wondering how it could possibly have slipped through. I'm sure there's a good reason.

    • @FormulaDigital
      @FormulaDigital  3 роки тому +13

      @@matthewmcewen1 I also am running a TGT. I looked at my notes, do I have written "slight vibration, likely just the track", apart from that I could not feel much or see any shake on the footage. Going to test again though, but it doesn't change anything from the video perspective though, rfactor2 just doesn't have a great damage model compared to others.

      Have watched my footage of rFactor 2 tyre testing, and also watched this: ua-cam.com/video/Uw-USwauS9s/v-deo.html I might publish a short on the topic to better explain it, but in rFactor2 I can see some shake only at high speed and only when going straight. However if you watch the real life flat spot you really only see steering shake when turning and not at high speed (when car shake takes over). That is why I dismissed it as track bumps, as nothing while turning but an effect at high speed didnt seem like a flat spot to me. Wait for the published #short ;)

    • @matthewmcewen1
      @matthewmcewen1 3 роки тому +3

      @@FormulaDigital understandable. I can see why you didn't count it as such. It had me a tad confused (rf2 was my first experience of any kind of flat spot simulation) because I too was wondering why there was quite so much wheel rotation vibration (jiggle ig) but it made sense to me as a substitute for car vibration.

      Reason for damage missing in "some" games is pretty easy-race arcades. Lot players want fun not realism. And if you forget about realism and then get into real car is here some chance for crash. Because you dont count with some things-in game if you push car in front of you because you dont brake in right time nothing happened, in real HAPPENED. I got Forza Horizon 4-yeah good graphics, detailed real cars but if you crash into really big tree in 250 kph and then drive away with same nonrepaired vehicle is too much. So BeamNG is king. And it is only in BETA for now!

    Good video.
    I'll add:
    -F1 2021 has improved damage compared to 2020, more bits of debris, more parts of the car can be affected by collisions.
    -AC1 has less visual damage than ACC but also has good tyre model and wear.
    -RaceRoom has basic visual damage, and collisions are less damaging than they should be (unless you're in open wheelers), but you will take damage to suspension/steering alignment, you can ruin your engine from collisions. RRE also has good tyre model that gives flat spots that you can feel - though they won't puncture as well as ACC, they will blow once you've worn them down enough.

    At this point, I'd love if BeamNG could get a decent tire-wear simulation going. Whether it's doing burnouts until the tires blow, sliding like an idiot down a hill with the brakes locked up and a trailer behind me, flat-spotting my tires into cubes, or just harsh wear-and-tear caused by driving hard on a track for many laps, I'd love to see the tires take as much torture as the cars do. Plus, as BeamNG is a great cruising sim, it'd be perfect to make it less viable to just slap drag-slicks on street cars, because if you're cruising with those, they wear out stupid fast.

He looked at me in confusion and in his teary eyes I read, "I don't want to play this game anymore."
    I quickly knocked the realism back to default and he would spend a lot of time turning cars into (still drivable) scrap and enjoying himself.

    If only BeamNG had more investments in racing mechanics like better AI and real life car models and circuits, then my bet in race simulation would be there, I feel it as even more realistic than Assetto Corsa in terms of physics and handling. I think these improvements might come later or in another version of the game, but for now, it's still impressive for its attention to detail, as if you hit the front of your car, the radiator starts leaking, then your engine overheats, some older cars don't have rev limiters etc. I still waste hours in it without crashing, and to be honest, mostly I like to time attack on race tracks.

    Solo of the best visual damage I’ve seen is on need for speed 2015, now cause it’s not a sim a 200mph crash loosens, cracks and bends your bumpers,opens your door, bends your bonnet and opens your trunk, but drivetrain and engine has never been better

    There was a rally game that came with the Pizza Hut demo discs back in the day and I feel like the crash penalty for that game was realistic. If you hit a rock you could pop a tire, a popped tire would pull you all over the track, hurt suspension wouldn’t rebound and it would be really bad. Crab walking down the track if it’s bad enough

    One of my favorite things in the original Assetto Corsa is doing donuts to get the rears up to 300 degrees, then trying to drive

    Nothing will ever EVER beat Beamng
    Especially the fact that it’s not released on full version yet it’s only on Beta if that’s correct
    And with that fact at some point in the future they might add realistic tire damage and perfect the Aerodynamic physics on cars with *huge wangs*

      It's not in beta yet, it's still in alpha. Beta games are nearly complete.

    For me is simple, BeamNG is just out of the category about damage model games haha, but if you talk about Racing sim Games Iracing is just on another level compared the others with the new damage model on GT4 or Formula. Big point for ACC on the punctures btw

    World Racing (2) has one favorite damage models.. its always had soft spot on me how realistic in a way was made back in the day. Bumbers and all plastics were plastics and not look like metal damage even if crashed.

    Maybe try hitting an actual wall, and not tire walls, tires are there to save your car from high speed collisions. This was a pretty unreliable technique shown as the damage is minimized.

      Propably harder to drive staright into a normal wall as most curves seem to have a tire wall and if you want to hit a wall without tires then its propably om a straight so you gotta steer into it making it hard to hit it front on

      it doesnt save the car, it saves the driver by softening the blow. a car isnt gonna come out any better hitting concrete vs tires at a high enough speed. not that it matters as most games have both tire walls and normal walls act the same, and the difference i only visual. so even if he DID find a fllat concrete wall the results are pprobably going to be the same
