Rugula dough always has cream cheese, that dough looked like a bread dough, they turned out nicely.
That’s not true. Traditional rugelach is made with yeasted dough, more like Polish rogal. In some Eastern European countries, however, the dough was made with sour cream (not cream cheese), resembling the appearance of Hungarian kifli. Rugelach with yeasted dough can be made with water and vegetable oil instead of milk and butter, making it kosher to serve with meat during Hanukkah and other Jewish holidays. If you go to Israel, this is a type of pastry you will find in every bakery. Some may sell rugelach made with laminated butter dough, similar to Danish pastry, but they don't offer cream cheese versions. Only in 1940 did American bakers start adding cream cheese into the dough and calling it rugelach.
