- Dudley Moore (piano)
Pete McGurk (bass)
Chris Karan (drums)
This clip is from an episode of "Not Only... But Also" but I'm not quite sure which one. It's most likely from the second series Christmas special, tx 26/12/1966, though I'm more than happy to be corrected.
Either way, it makes for an interesting comparison with the trio's 1965 well-known studio cut of the tune on "The Other Side of Dudley Moore", reissued in 1970 as "The World of Dudley Moore".
Pete McGurk was amazing as was Chris Karen. I admire the Dudley Moore trio so much as they opened my ears and eyes to the freedom of jazz. They were an inspiration and I will never forget them.
Sadly missed. I worked with Dudley on 11 performances for bassist Peter McGurk in 1965, it was an absolute delight. Dudley is a wonderful musician and a dear man.l
Hi Bruce, did you get to work alongside the great Chris Karan ? if so, how did you get on with him ?
Bruce Cale how fortunate are you to have worked with such a gentleman
Lovely comment....in 1965 I was 7!
Thank you so much, this recording of my blue heaven is heaven indeed. I play it daily to inspire me. R I P dear Dudley.
Dudley Moore was without doubt a fine jazz pianist. Sadly, there are too few recordings of him from the 60s and 70s. He was massively underrated as a jazz musician here in the UK. A great talent RIP
I wouldn’t say underated , He & Peter Cook had a weekly TV show. Always had at least on song from the trio. Ir was that he was an extremely funny guy, especially when he worked with Pete . Their comedy was a major part of that show though.
@@beagle7622 I stand by my comment that as a jazz pianist he was hugely underrated. In 1974 I tried to get an LP with him on it.......it was difficult then to get any material by Dudley.
@@martinplatt5928 Look I was just going on what My Mum told me . She saw Pete & Dud in London mid sixties, the place was sold out for months. I think a lot of the media didn’t realise what a great musician he was though.
@@martinplatt5928 Think one of the problems at that time was an apathy towards jazz in general by the record companies and we didn't have a dedicated jazz label.
You are just one of the best Dud and sorely missed today.Your sketches with Pete had us all in stitches and your musical talents have always been a lovely contrast.🇬🇧🇺🇸👍👌💕
Terrific! And Pete McGurk on bass deserves a shout.
He is outstanding - great sense of rhythm with excellent backing by the bass and drums. I can hear a little of Peterson and then later in his playing career he is influenced by Garner, but always plays his own take on those guys...
A brilliant pianist who is sadly missed . His trio playing is so listenable
As several other have commented, Dudley Moore is rightly remembered for his great playing; but let's not forget the excellent Messrs Karan and McGurk. The latter was an outstanding bass player whose career ended prematurely through personal tragedy.
Perfectly recorded Double Bass - and those years back in a 1966 TV studio. These guys swung!
The recoding captures the double bass “singing”, such a fabulous instrument.
Great, thanks - that's my Uncle Peter on bass.....sadly he departed this earth in 1968. Always great to see him again in action.
Creativity! Mindblowing! xxxxx
@@lottewied1937 what a fine musician your Uncle P was.
thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this ive played it over and over and may i also say as a bass player how fabulous Pete's playing was and what an inspiration he was to me then and stll is now. They deserved immortality if anyone ever did
One of the best bass players I've ever heard... and I've been playing since 1955.
Simply outstanding!! What a talent
Chris Karan still working as percussionist . Amazing guy.
What a great legacy Dudley leaves us.
Miss his music and the Man
Oh my God this bass player is ridiculously good. What a sound, time feel ,note choice and everything else.Outstanding.
I absolutely couldn’t agree morel ❤
Amazing to watch Dudley play...I loved his movies, miss him a lot...
Loved this genus play
Dudley Moore was a superb Jazz pianist, very much influenced by Oscar Peterson, so much underrated. Thankfully we have much of his music to enjoy, especially the pieces like the ones you’ve put on. Thanks for that.!!!
Lov him but
A
Very sad life HE didn't deserve DREADFULL I CRY
The first recording I ever heard of Dudley Moores piano playing was "My Blue Heaven". I have been hooked on Dudley Moore's recording ever since. Such beautiful and tasteful playing.
Dudley was a class act.
A brilliant jazz pianist, he was up there with Oscar Peterson.
That period of British jazz was magnificent - Tubby Hayes, Ronny
Scott, Dick Morrissey, Mike Westbrook, Joe Harriott but it was
overlooked by the global domination of the Beatles.
A reminder of a truly gifted man.
He was good.Peterson was a genius.
Just love this so much. It was my first introduction to jazz and I fell in love, there and then!
Happy New Year from my favourite jazz trio…
OMG, what a young pup he was! Good tune!
Woderful song Words are lovely Now a different SAD WORLD OH HOW LIFE WAS SO SIMPLE
I saw a lot of these ,live on Tv at the time- & was always wowed..!! What a talented trio...sheer Magic !!.
The highlight of the this great performance for me is the bass player.Amazing sound, gut strings,no amp.The British Ray Brown.
The stand up bass sounded wonderful! Agreed.

Dudley he was so talented, so lovely to see this, thanks fro posting this clip. :-D
I owned two Dud trio albums once. Genuine Dud and I can't remember the other but I loved them. They were my first foray into blues and jazz. I miss them and thank you for this upload.
This is just terrific stuff. It doesn't get a lot better than this
Always loved this one by him great relaxing music
Dudley Moore. A Mastercrafts Man applying his skills to an impossible art-form that's in serious danger of permanent extinction.... Charisma. Him and his Merry Band of Men. Brilliant Brilliant.
An adorable genius.
This is Chris Karan who played drums with Roy Budd? What a time this was
for British jazz. Johnny Dankworth, Cleo, Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes... so many amazing talents all playing in the same era.
It's Pete McGurk
Pete McGurk is the bassist.
Not forgetting Stan Tracey :D
Don't forget about Dick Morrissey, Alan Skidmore.
Harold McNair, Joe Harriott, Mike Westbrook,
and Ian Carr.
Quality stuff. Bought a couple of his albums recently and was well impressed.
I remember Dudley Moore as a middle aged guy who flirted with bo Derek and acted goofy. I had no idea he was also an accomplished jazz pianist. Wow.
great Dudley Moore
Well done Typo.
A Brilliant pianist-super...
Yes, I was thinking I might have a go at that - cheers, James
Great camera work too!
A genius!
@1979saxman Thanks - he can be heard with Dudley, with Sounds Orchestral, on the Hamlet ad, as a session musician on many 60's songs, inc Cilla Black & Dusty Springfield singles, and Englebert's Release Me. Sadly, he committed suicide in June '68 after he came home and found a lot of notes left all round the house by a Danish girlfriend, saying ''I don't love you".......he took a load of pills and called his brother to say he was dying - they could not reach him in time. A great loss to all.
What would you give to be sat in that audience? Thank god this wasn't wiped as so many of the tapes were
...this is nuts. Totally nuts. Dud could swing in a bath tub. Props.
Dud was a legend
Oh, this is Dudley Moore, the actor who starred in "Arthur' and other films? I had no idea he was such an accomplished musician!
A brilliant player.
ultra cool Dud!
❤
Dudley Moore trio ; My Blue Heaven..enjoy..
Great jazz
@FlamingFairy Thanks - he sure was!

In my day, what was known as “talent”
in my opinion dudley was a giant
@jokitosh Agreed!
@jokitosh
Thanks mate!

I used to love wathcing the "mad" drummer in the Dudley Moore Trio when this stuff went out live in the 60's.
I suppose "animal" from the Muppets is the ultimate development of the style, via that Moon guy in The Who. All relatively low-key here in comparison, but still fun to watch.
As a pianist with perhaps 1% of Dudley's talent, I cannot imagine how terrible it must have been for him to lose the ability to play later in life.
식후에 음악한곡!
공유합니다~^^
Not bad for an actor. 😎
His group sounds a little like THE THREE SOUNDS, who were in their own right a great trio also...SMOOTH DUDLEY, SMOOTH>>>>>>
@UnofficialPixMan Maybe you could write a Wikipedia page, because there isn't too much information on the net about him.
@UnofficialPixMan Your uncle is such a dude!
Great ticklish
Very comparable to Andre Previn.
