I bet I'm not the only one who puts on one of these Carson show segments just to forget about the dreadful world we are now living in... Being British it's new to me, but Cuddly Dudley has always been a legend (RIP) ... so I now realise was the great JC! Thanks for the entertainment!
I remember staying up late as a teenager to watch johnny, and even tom snyder, classy stuff . . .
No, you're not alone. Let's see - watch the news or watch an old clip of Johnny Carson? I'll take Johnny Carson!
These are indeed some fond memories of a happier and less turbulent world. I certainly enjoyed my moment of laughter and appreciation for Dudley’s raw talents.
John Cleese? Johnny Cash? Oh, .. Johnny Carson?, of course. Yep, I know where you're coming from, you're not the only one,...whether it's binge watching old episodes of Bonanza or the great Brit comedies, Steptoe, Pete and Dud, Till Death...., Dad's Army, Thin Blue Line, etc. or watching the great music from the 60's, 70's, 80's (and before), it's all to escape from the sad, greedy, self absorbed times we live in now and call me a sentimentalist,...I don't give a s***.
I want to go back to “the best that you can do is fall in love.”
Dudley was such a fine comedian and actor that people often forget how fine a pianist he was.
So true an amazing actor comedian who deserved to have more recognition
Take it from me, as a career professional full time pianist, Dudley was one of thee best pianists of the past century. Most people haven't figured this out yet, because Dudley was modest about it. . He majored in music at Oxford. etc.
@@Rnyargd Uh, Clint more basic jazz guy.
He was so talented and underrated. And he was hilarious.
all his women related how fine a pianist he was..
God I love Dudley. Multi talented comedian and classical pianist. Lost him too early. RIP
Dudley was one of the GREAT entertainers! And, the Tonight Show Band was the BEST!!
Dudley was so funny and such a great talent. Still miss him a lot.
Oh the good ole days. Dudley Moore. Always smile when thinking of him from the movie " Arthur " . Time goes way to fast.
I love his piano playing. What a genius! ❤😍😻😘🥰
Erroll Garner style
@@ignorecorporatenews Dudley Moore Style 😁
Truly! I’m kinda speechless. I never realized he was THAT good, with an amazingly unique style.
I also have some naughty thoughts. 😉
I still watch "Arthur" on at least an annual basis as it is a part of my DVD library. Dudley Moore had such a wealth of talent. God bless his spirit always.
I miss him! He was such a talent and so sweet.
Wow Dudley amazing man I hope he is having some laughs in heaven and playing the piano
I was on deployment in 2002 on USS Wasp LHD 1 when I read the story of Dudley Moore's and Milton Berle's passing on the same day. I enjoy watching Arthur every time it comes on.
I love Dudley Moore. Didn't know he was a serious classical pianist until later on. He played Carnegie Hall here. Gone way too soon. RIP.
Yeah.. DM, from humble roots, went on to Oxford on a full ride (tuition + lodgings) as an organ scholar, a most competitive scholarship that entails the recipient to play his college’s (Magdalen College) huge church organ for various services (choir practices, invocations, church services, as well as recitations, etc) for the duration of his stay until graduation; he left Oxford with two undergrad degrees, a BA in music and a BA in composition. UA-cam features a taping of his musical talents on “An Audience with Dudley Moore” where his humour and musical chops are displayed amply, esp towards the 27:00 mark. ✌🏼
Dudley brought that, just rolled out of the dusty store room, piano to life. 💯
He was at his happiest and most relaxed when he played the piano. There is a heart-breaking moment when an idiot journalist asks him towards the end of his life what he misses. He looks at his hands and says ‘I can’t play the piano any more.’ I know I won’t be the only person who cries every time. RIP genius musician.
Dudley imnsho was one of Thee Best pianists of the last century. he mastered Classical and Jazz piano music, AND he was an excellent composer also.
He was a very good organ player too. He got into Oxford on an organ scholarship.
Loved the movie Arthur with Dudley Moore 😊
BRILLIANT.; Dudley was a genius!
I. Am. Blown. Away. 🥰 I’d never seen this episode and *I’m so elated* you released it. Thank you!
What arrangements and talent. Wow. I knew he played, but had no idea he was THAT awesome, with a style so unique it’s incredible. Trust me when I say I’ll be watching this over and over.
*And he’s ADORABLE! Utterly adorable.* Psssst... I’ve always had a MAJOR crush. He’s “my type.” 😍
I loved his movies growing up and it’s hard to believe it’s been 21 years since Dudley passed away.. rip
Fantastic " LEGIT" Musician, soooo soulful! The real Dudley Moore, music is what moved him most. Glad we knew ye Dudley! He' s joined the Seraphim up above.
Wow what a treat. It really doesn't get better than this.
Dudley Moore actually playing Christopher Cross's theme song from Arthur. Wow.
What a treat. Thanks for posting these clips of segments we don't see on Antenna TV.
Dudley Moore was indeed a great musician as well as a composer. I only committed more of this side of his artistry to record. 😊❤
I was in the audience. I appreciate the upload thank you.
This was exceptional. Johnny always had on the best and the best always knew that Johnny belonged in their league and then some! Mr Carson was the best, hands down!!
Dudley pays homage to Erroll Garner's version of "They Can't Take That Away From Me" by Gershwin, which was made famous by the release of Erroll's brilliant "Concert By The Sea" in the late 1950's.
Love the way Dudley comes right out of the Errol Garner, Earl "Fatha" Hines cookbook. Sooo good!!! Jazz Lives!
You're AWESOME Dudley Moore 💯👍👍👍💯
Thanks for posting this. Dudley was knockout! Also, if I'm not mistaken, in 'Arthur's Theme' there's a short tenor solo by Pete Christlieb who does the sax solos on the Steely Dan cuts:- 'Deacon Blues' and 'FM'.
A wonderful performer!
So unreal that both Dudley Moore and Burt Bachrach are gone. That was beautiful. 😊
When the "Talent" had talent & class in equal measure.
I miss him. He was a sweet man and so talented.
I was just looking him up because of the Russell Brand remake in 2011
Hello, how're you doing.?
Structured chaos of multiple songs. Jazz
My dad ran a movie theater and I've probably seen Arther 60 times. Still my all time favorite!
I remember when the film critics savaged this movie. "Arthur" turned out to be a massive hit after filmgoers went to see it in droves. The critics were left with egg on their faces.
Johnny's a cappella joke was comedy gold but the audience seems to have missed it.
agreed
Times from the past. It feels Just like yesterday!
Absolutely loved him in Micki and Maude.
Hello, how're you doing.?
That gave me nostalgia majorly
Every time I hear the band it’s a big treat. How about Tommy Newsom playing the flute. He was obviously quite a multi-instrumentalist. Moore and the boys seemed to be having a lot of fun, which makes the performance more enjoyable to watch. And that was a powerful yet nuanced sax solo. As I have commented before, whoever was in charge of audio for the TS would always do a fantastic job of mixing the sound for the band yet the bass sound was barely there for the trio. Overall, bravo… keep’em coming.
You weren't working in that band if you didn't double on all the woodwinds. That was Pete Christlieb with the tenor solo. Carson acknowledged him coming back from a previous break. He's one of the few from that band still alive.
@@STATter911 I always love to get names. I have learned that these musicians in the band all had long and amazing credits... I get your point about playing multiple instruments, but come on. How many tens of thousands of hours can one man play/practice? Ha. In the Louis Armstrong video Newsom is playing clarinet.
@@CaesarDarias I always paid attention to the great musicians in the talk show bands (Carson, Cavett, Griffin) as I was growing up. Got to see quite a few of them live through the years. Many of them have been heard on all kinds of recordings from pop music to movie soundtracks.
@@STATter911 Nice. There’s nothing like a truly live performance.
Saw a rerun of Arthur the other night on UA-cam, and it was great memories and laughter once again.
When the entertainment industry had class.
When the republican party wasn't a criminal organization
The Tonight Show Band (The NBC Orchestra Can Play Any Song They Are The Best Orchestra Ever even In Impromptu Performance and They Can Jam With You. Perfect Excellent
you can see Dudley playing violin in Unfaithfully Yours
I'm only seeing Moore as Spin from Really Wild Animals. Nostalgia
He was featured in a case study on how the brain works. He could make each hand completely independent from the other, citing Bach!
My parents watched Arthur all the time when I was a kid, they’d be laughing their asses off and I didn’t get it. But once I watched it as a teenager, I did. So, I made all of my friends watch it, and they loved it, and, incidentally, still quote it to this day! The soundtrack was badass as well! Would sure be nice if we could resurrect him and make part 3…..Arthur Comes Back 😂
Love dudley rip
Dudley Moore❤
What a talent!!
Wow, played that piano like a guitar.
Too young to die. RIP Mr. Moore.
Wow. I knew he played, but didn't know he was accomplished.
He was talented and handsome.
Groucho doing a fine job on the bass 👍🏻
Talent.
Great Dudley❤️
❤Gone too soon❤
3:36 Sadly he was right about that ("All gone....")
He’s doing the most accurate impression of Erroll Garner.
Sweet.
imagine having not only the talent to PLAY anything... but also be able to throw in total ad lib as you go and make it sound PERFECT... Talent, thy name is Dudley Moore... the other guys ain't bad either...
“If you get caught between the moon and New York City, the best that you can do is fall in love.” *If you know, you know 😏
Absolutely Classic times 🎪🥳❤️ I was 18 on this night and never realized how SPECTACULAR 🎹⭐️ this little funny guy was ✊
I really mis Dud, brilliant jazz pianist (on a par with Oscar imo) and such a funny guy. Listen to his Original Dud LP... Fabulous!
I remember when Dudley Moore was unfairly and harshly accused of drunkenness when all along his symptoms were the result of his suffering from PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy) which caused him to lose his coordination.
He was an all-around talent. Rest in peace, Dudley.
Dudley Garner - very nice!
I used to have really good piano chops but damn it take a lot of practice to keep them, and I've been letting go
Absolutely love Dudley Moore!!!!! U r so missed. 💐
Hello, how're you doing.?
@@mikedenison121 go away
I didn't know Dudley was married to Tuesday Weld.
Hooker Gloria: “what do you do for a living”?
Arthur: “I race cars, I play tennis, I fondle women. But, I have weekends off and I am my own boss. ha,ha,ha - Arthur Bach
God, I love and miss the genius of Dudley Moore.
Back in the days when life was fun.
13:35. Great instrumental version of "Theme from Arthur." Christopher Cross was the musician who sang this song and made it a hit.
Played a great Errol garner impersonation
.. and I just try to feel Rosey, if she is there at the time.. LOL
Is that Joel Di Bartolo on bass?
Dudley was such a master at the piano amongst his comedic talent but not easy to live with
Like most comedians they had their ‘highs and lows’
Like Tony Hancock and Peter Cook
🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴
It's so weird to 😐 think they are not anymore
I love Dudley Moore but that was simply an imitation of the Great Errol Garner.
At the height of his fame.
Pete was very jealous
A tremendous man in more ways than I can count.
Carson should let his guest speak..he's supposed to ask questions and listen ...
‘Should have’ He died in 2005. ‘Fallen on deaf ears’
as they say. 😉
Such talent. Such a shame, the disease he got.
This is one of the episodes where you hit the like button, before it even starts... just know it's going to be great.
😍
10:50. Dudley was talking about his then girlfriend, Susan Anton, actress, singer and dancer.
Many people don't know that Dudley Moore was a talented musician.
So many people get that moniker that actually suck though. But yes, he was quite good.
Hello, how're you doing.?
Yes. I own 3 of his CDs.
Sheesh, Johnny, (or whoever), that piano is Really out of tune… Sorry to say. Otherwise, fine playing by one of my favorites.
one of the saddest things was dudley being diagnosed with a degenerative brain disease, taking away his ability to play piano, and ironically making him appear to be drunk. a rough last 7 years.
I witnessed first hand that Dudley was an ass to his fans. I was stationed overseas when Suzanne Somers was filming a tv special, Susan Anton, the Pointer Sisters, and Jonathan Winters were all there and signed autographs and posed for pictures. Dudley refused all requests.
I admit that I always had a crush on him. 😍
You weren’t alone
Eddie S. pulling out the brushes. You can’t take that away from me.
For the benefit of Americans Jazz was an idiom much loved by many English Pop singers and Groups . The Stones drummer Charlie Watts had his own big band , Sting used Jazz musicians on his songs , Rod Stewart and many more loved Jazz .
Shame is that Americas most original art form has sunk to obscurity and replaced by crap , Rap.
With all due respect to Dudley, a wonderful comedian, that’s the worst rendition of The Way You Look Tomight I’ve ever heard. Too much fiddling, not enough of the lovely melody. Otherwise charming.
