I've realized that a lot of people spend most of their childhood learning to listen to others (parents, teachers, etc.) and most of their early adulthood learning when to not listen to them. I can think of several instances where I would have been way better off if I trusted myself instead of advice I was given from someone else.
that's awesome! what motherboard format, case, etc did you use? bc i am currently a university student i would love to achieve something similar to that
when i was moving into my dorm i was really debating on whether or not i should bother bringing my desktop because i didnt want to risk damaging it during the move (i go to college 200 miles from home) but i eventually just decided to build a new desktop before i left and then took my whole setup with me, and it was way more worth it to do that
Yea it's kinda interesting. Just finished my first semester of uni and 90% of kids in my classes use laptops or IPads to take notes or study, whereas i use my desktop to do basically everything. So i was one of very very few people using pen and paper to take my notes lol, also made studying with friends a bit harder as they all use things like that so I could barely do anything when out purely to study. Dont regret using my desktop for a second though, no point in sacrificing my creative process to fit in
I brought my Amiga 1200 to university for my first year in 1999. It helped me feel more comfortable as I settled in and I actually did a lot homework on it.
From your video i realized that i was somewhat hindered in my creative adventures as a child. My parents never wanted me to have a powerful computer or anything other than a Nintendo Gameboy because they didn't want me to play violent games like first person shooters. I think my kids will get access to a nice tower pc which i never had access to.
I totally like listening to some people explaining about their past. But this video intrests me than listening to my sister's conversation. Keep it up Cary!
I started studying computer science in Germany in 2014, and MacBooks were a small minoriy there, maybe 15%. I probably saw more thinkpads. And desktop computers in dorms were not uncommon. I preferred having a more powerful laptop and just external monitor/mouse/keyboard at my dorm, so I didn't have to maintain two systems (move files, settings, etc.).
I like your little rants and I agree with most of what you said! I already learned this lesson when I realized what I wanted to do was way more important than fully attending monotonous lectures and, of course, that I could bring anything into the dorm. I was a bit lazy in freshman years so I didn't bring my desktop, which resulted in me having to work on my really weak laptop. I recently got a much better laptop, so that's good. My desktop isn't powerful enough to justify moving it to my dorm, so I just left it at home to use on the weekends. Tl;dr do what's important to you, and do what's right
I brought not only my desktop but my whole setup along with wired VR headset back in the days. When covid hits and everyone except me went home, guess who has the whole floor yo himself with Half Life Alyx
Tons of people at my university brought their desktops with them. Some of them I know even had them shift because they were so large. I think it's great having one, but I love having a powerful Windows laptop that I can take home on break. That being said, there are people with MacBooks and in some of the classes I've taken they are wholly unsuitable, and the people who use them need to get told how to use them because they don't know much about computers.

2:15 Listen, I know Cary is an adult, I know he can say whatever he wants to, but this caught me SO OFF GUARD. I must say though, it is a good lesson to not let the emotion of others and how it affects you get the better of you. I can relate.
Ngl, if there's anything I've learnt from watching you throughout the years is that you've thought a lot about what other people think of you. Cool to see that you've grown to do cool stuff regardless though.

hi
@@chair547 hello!
Hey as an University student I really appreciate your unscripted videos.
I built a custom small computer and it fits in my backpack. That lets me take it to and from classes every day!
Thats cool but why dont you have a laptop
Laptops suck, they're not upgradable and they overheat very quickly. A PC is definitely the better option for me

The need to ask for permission for everything is definitely something you realize towards the end of like senior year of high school is a little silly
i now find it weird that i had to ask to use the bathroom when working in the fast food industry as a legal adult
