- Dyno testing is a great way to gauge power increases over the entire rev range but may not translate to real world performance. Through GPS based acceleration testing, APR’s Engineers were able to verify increases made on the dyno translated to a faster and quicker vehicle on the street.
The results were astounding. By simply adding the APR Stage I ECU upgrade, the US spec 2015 Golf R DSG test vehicle completed every test quicker than the stock vehicle by a large margin. 0-60 MPH times were reduced to 3.8 seconds while the 30-130 MPH test was completed 5.9 seconds faster! Acceleration tests were conducted all the way to 140 MPH, which was reached 9.1 seconds faster with APR Stage I Software.
Stock vs APR Stage I 93 AKI
4.247 vs 3.490 - 0-60 MPH (1-FT)
4.509 vs 3.690 - 0-100 KPH (1-FT)
4.641 vs 3.869 - 0-60 MPH
4.852 vs 4.070 - 0-100 KPH
11.159 vs 9.186 - 0-100 MPH (1-FT)
11.502 vs 9.186 - 0-100 MPH
15.020 vs 10.883 - 100-200 KPH
18.428 vs 13.001 - 60-130 MPH
21.190 vs 15.258 - 30-130 MPH
29.834 vs 20.694 - 0-140 MPH (1-FT)
30.228 vs 21.073 - 0-140 MPH
8.218 @ 85.275 MPH vs 7.654 @ 91.784 MPH - 1/8 Mile
12.849 @ 105.300 MPH vs 11.956 @ 113.733 MPH - 1/4 Mile
Data collected at the same location with a US Spec 2015 Volkswagen Golf R DSG with OEM tires via a Racelogic P-Box's actual data files (not screen data) with ESP disabled, race mode, sport mode, and automatic redline shifts. Results will vary depending upon location, environmental conditions, vehicle, transmission, shift points, vehicle health, operating conditions, temperatures, fuel grade, weight, tires, other modifications and more. (1-FT) indicates 1 foot roll out timing.
That's awesome. That makes me want to own a Golf R even more now!
Get the tune if you don't have it already! Must have!
Nice Golf R with a top acceleration
Wow, that's insane!
Jesus Christ it's not even fair anymore.
My BMW 135i FBO would compete but off the line not even close.
This is just a tune. Damn you APR!
Steven Nelson A FBO 135i is pretty quick! I ran my buddies 135i fbo from a 40mph roll and he beat me by like 2 cars! LOL. I'm a Stage 2+ Golf 6 R.
Steven Nelson a 135i would have a N55 right? Or did these get the N54? Either way theres plenty of power to be made with JB4 still.
+Tab Tiurf early 135is had N54. Changed to N55 after aroudn 2010
135i coupe until 2010.5 had the n54 twin turbo. Then they got the n55 twinscroll single. I had a 2011 Audi TTS stage 2+ and the 135i would easily walk it. But this new Golf R 7 would probably beat my BMW.
+Steven Nelson I have an '08 N54 135i but changing it soon for Golf R Wagon. Interested to see how it compares
There was a latency between start of this two. Its hard to compare.
dont think that was latency. pretty sure apr reduces the time it takes for the throttle to respond
Amazing.
holy shit thats fast. Especially compared to a GTi
Very nice!
@ Ben Moody this is just the stage 1 ECU upgrade
Unbelievable acceleration. Wonder how long-term reliability will be impacted w/ just the Stage 1.
+Crosby Toyama reliability shouldn't be affected at all. There's literally thousands of VW owners running around with tuned cars putting 150k+ miles on them without issue. The stock internals in the engine will hold over 500hp and DSG can hold over 600hp
????????? DSG can definitely NOT handle that much HP without some significant changes. Why do you think they don't put the DSG in the S4 but they do in the A4?
Lucas Daudt why can't it? Stage 1 is just a software update dsg is good for stage 3
It's too much torque. "You have to look at the maximum torque. Up to 400Nm is the perfect combination for the dual clutch transmission, but this one has more than 500Nm," - Florian Beck powertrain engineer for S4 S5. That's why they use the ZF transmission. Considering Audi has a more updated version of the dual clutch, I'd assume VW cars would be even less likely to take the power well.
And who told you DSG can handle stage 3? haha... The hell?
15 sec 30-130 is mental off a remap
Ive got a stage 2 edition 30 335bhp what sort of numbers is a stage 1 mk7 putting out?
Stock gtr is just under 14 sec!
How are you only getting 335hp out of a stage 2 tune? I have an EQT tune and it’s making 415hp and 430tq and it’s technically “stage 1”
I'm so leary to trust APR again, but people speak so highly of them. I had a 2.7T chip, but they sent it out, knowing it had problems with heat. There was an easy test they could do, but they didn't do it before sending it out. After three tows over 6 months and diagnostic work, I sent it back and, sure enough, mine was affected. What kind of company does that??? I'm just afraid to get burned again by them
When is the sale gonna start, I want to get my k04 !?!?!
Sweet baby Jesus.....Must, have
about 3.8 seconds wow
Top speed 173 knots?
I dont get it a stock golf r should be doing about 5 seconds 0-160 mph here its 4.4247 ?
Official times..... VW always does this, they also say it does 0-60 in 4.9s while in reality it does it in 4.6s, all VW Group cars are a bit understated in the spec sheets.
will the tune still work on a manual golf r? or is this just for the dsg?
Can the stock clutch handle stage 1 and 2?
Yes but will have to keep in mind it will wear down faster and you will have to get a replacement after good 100k+ miles which is not bad, my best suggestion is go with RSR clutch after for performance oriented and comfort, cost more but it’s a huge upgrade and it’s found on Audi rs models which will hold more power on your vw and better clutch engagement not to mention it will last longer also.
Das war aber serie oder?
You started them at different times...
how come the speedo goes to 200mph while ive seen ones that only go to 180mph
+vdubornothing mk5 and mk6 only go up to 180 this is mk7
oh wow that is sweet!
Nice.... Downhill? Why is there a diff between European Golf R Tuner on 100 ROZ (slower) and Dubai Tuner (also slower)? Even with the 4xx HP (New Turbo) Stange plus DSG upgrade (7 Gear) they were slower? What ist your Magic with just Software?
Dubai cars are de tuned for the heat
APR's numbers are inflated. They claim 111 mph from a stage 1 GTI. The reality is that's what an is38 GTI does with 91-93 octane.
my golf r stg 1 apr seems faster does this also have the TCU tune ?
I had this done to my 17 r and yes it needed a TCU flash on the DSG as well. Best $1400 I've spent
just under 4 seconds... wow.
With AWD, DSG and LC anyone can run 11's now.
There don’t seem to be much difference once there away which makes me think is it the gearbox flash more than the engine flash !
As the apr just jumps it off the line then the Speedo’s go up at the same rate
What octane...91, 93 or 100?
What's feedback on reliability with stage 1 as a daily driver? Any issues?
I've had the tune for 4 years now. Zero issues. Running it with rs7 plugs
I got stage 1 from apr.
But it wasn't like this at all ,On 95 octane.
Now i'm on stage 2+ Etuners
and still not even close to the
-10.6s 100-200kph /
I get -11.6s from 100-200kph ( Now )
Apr stage 1 was 12.8s 100-200kph
Is this also with the downpipe and air intake, or just the ecu upgrade?
No dp
Or intake change
Similar performance for the S3 tune?
They're both pretty much the same car, so i don't see why not.
nappiral just a little bit different settings, but overall +- the same.
+nappiral S3 is a heavier car. So I would say it could be a bit slower in a DSG. They do not have one for the Mk7 2016 as of yet *chomping at the bit*.
Full weight stock tires and fuel?
APR Stage I ECU upgrade only
check the description
Doesn't specify full weight...
JFecht All they did to the car is flash the ecu and reprogram with APR software
anyway that's what there saying , By simply adding the APR Stage I ECU upgrade, the US spec 2015 Golf R DSG test vehicle completed every test quicker than the stock vehicle by a large margin. 0-60 MPH times were reduced to 3.8 seconds
JFecht Yes. Stock tires. Full Weight. 93 octane.
srt4pwr Lol 3.8s stage 1? i doubt that. Whats left for stage 2 and 3 then? 3.0 secs? :D
Was this done on pump gas?
Alvaro Davila Yes
absolutely incredible………. Do you think this car will hit low 11's at Stage 2 power levels on race gas? I happen to think that the way it's going so far, that it will.
+Alvaro Davila theres a video of a stage two running high 11's
pump gas bro, but it ain't no ecoboost
Awesome... can literally see the gas gauge drop!
Thats because the car is angled back during acceleration. Causing the fuel to shift to the rear of the tank. Which lowers the fuel sending unit.
Theres always a weak point after a tune. Doesnt inspire confidence not knowing what it is.
Looks rapid though :)
Stage 1 tune on the AE888 (the engine in the Golf R, GTI, Audi S3 and others) has been proven a long time ago to have NO or insignificant effect on reliability.
