- Highlights from the MGB60 race at Silverstone GP Circuit with Equipe Classic Racing
I was pleased to qualify P27 out of 59 cars for a special race to celebrate 60 years of the MGB. I managed to hold position for the opening lap and then followed two safety car periods for cars stranded on circuit. I took advantage of the safety car to make the mandatory pitstop and re-join on a clear track.
I lost a few places towards the end of the race, but was pleased to finish P21 overall (53 cars finished the race). The race was 40 minutes in total, I have cut out both safety car periods and the 45 second pitstop.
Many thanks to Peter French for the thumbnail image flyingtigers.c...
Big thanks to www.opieoils.co... for all the lubricants and brake fluids etc

Cracking Video, you need to work on your race excuses! It was definitely the bird poo on the windscreen that added weight and messed with aerodynamics on the straights 🤭, MGB GT 30 cocking a front wheel like a Lotus Cortina 👍.. thanks for taking us around Silverstone GP! Great to see both you and the car back on track having fun .
A bunch of B's at their best, slip sliding away. Thanks David. Gotta love that red GT going thru the turns on 3 wheels.
It was great to follow Richard in the GT!
The Phoenix has risen from the ashes again. Outstanding rebuild of your beautiful car.
Many thanks Michael!
I'm glad you avoided another incident. It was nice to see the GT on track.
Great fun and great driving thanks. Back in the 60’s I had a early B with non synchro 1st gear , a friend had a MGA and another friend had a GT I truly love these vehicles thanks again.
Many thanks John
David, I always love your racing footage
Love the work David! if i lived in the UK I would’ve definitely been there to watch! So many incredible cars like yours and even le mans DRX 255C. These races look so fun, the only thing we have close to that here in Florida is SVRA vintage here at Sebring international, only 30 miles from me. Once my car is prepped for a race i will definitely post it to Facebook!
Please do, would love to see your car in action
Thanks so much! Would love to see some behind the scenes video too, car preparation and maybe actual race day prep? :)
I'm attending a rather prestigious event later in the year (16th - 18th September) I'm hoping to cover the whole event including getting the car ready to go. More details to follow
Great camera work and editing as usual David. Apologies for making you take to the grass, not the way to gain places in a race, I was obviously trying a bit too hard that day.
Many thanks Barry, when I looked back I still had space on the circuit, I just did not think that I did at the time!
Formula one could learn a lot about sportsmanship from you guys 👍
Thanks fantástic 👌 video
Glad you liked it!
Love your race footages! Nicely done. I couldn’t help notice being a watch enthusiast that you were wearing one over your glove. What were you wearing? Cheers!
Many thanks John, the watch is a Tudor Chrono S&G from Pragnell Jewellers
@@davidrussellwilks that’s a serious watch! Very nice 👍. I’m sure it’s fully wound after the race 😂. Cheers 🍻
Id love to race a classic track such as Silverstone
It's a great circuit, loads of history, a little long for MGBs though. I was lucky enough to have a trackday here many years ago on the 90's layout with Bridge corner, that really was a lot of fun. It's changed a lot recently, I imagine mainly for F1, but there are several good classic car race weekends too.
Neat with all those Bs! Are you allowed to have an overdrive tranny?
An overdrive gearbox is allowed but may not stand up to the punishment of racing. We tend to just use a straight cut set and then change the diff for longer circuits.
What’s the soundtrack you’re using at the beginning of the video? It’s a short clip but so good.
Thanks for your message, the track is called Parasail, it's taken from the UA-cam library ua-cam.com/video/MzO4zfNO0kQ/v-deo.html
I’ve learned so much watching your repair & maintenance videos with my 66 B. Keep them coming :)
David - I assume you didn't race this year - what's the plan for 2024?
Many thanks for your message, no racing this year but I hope to be out again in 2024. We have been house renovating for most of this year.
@@davidrussellwilks great stuff - looking forward to your vids next year!
What transmissions are they using? Are they straight cut gears?
Yes most cars run with a straight cut close ratio box. Both 3 and 4 synchro gearboxes are permitted.
