DRIVE- Life With The Chevy Volt

- There's been a lot written about the Chevrolet Volt. Some think it's brilliant, others feel it's hype. Does it really go 40 miles on a full battery charge? Will it save the average viewer money on fuel? Tom Voelk uses Volt as his only vehicle for a full week to find the answers.

very informative. thanks Tom. really shows that it does do 40 miles on battery only
Hopefully cost and price will come down with numbers. But the only other car that can actually do with the VOLT does, at least as well, is the Fisker Karma and that is not out yet and it'll cost twice as much.
GEVs definitely look like the more realistic future, at least for the immediate term.
@DocWolph the frisker is luxurious though so its not compairable, it gives better fuel economy and better sporty feel and is an all around better car.
@mankaman3 And so you did not read the part "at least as well" concerning the Karma. In terms of propulsion, both the Karma and VOLT are very much comparable. The Karma being a luxury sport sedan does not preclude comparison with the VOLT. Also you can't rightly say "it'll get better F/econ" when the car isn't out yet. While I won't be surprised if the Karma does, you don't know. Only a real world test, like Drive's w/ the VOLT, will tell for sure.
I'd rather have a Leaf (IF I had another car for driving long distances).
How much power is used lugging that gasoline motor around?
BTW I am AMAZED that I've seen TWO of these so far in a large city. Sales DISAPPOINTMENT.
@alphaswimmer55 yep !
since when is 5'8" average sized??
@alphaswimmer55 chrome is nice !
I Win :DDDDDD
@bg1379 You'd also probably like using tow trucks on a frequent basis. The Leaf is just as big of a sales flop so far..... but why not check for the reason why instead of being another youtuber that thinks that watching car reviews makes him know something about the industry.
Had GM stuffed 300 hp in it it would be a sales success, as is its not going to sell in great numbers.
The front is a copy of a Acura TL
It's slow as hell. Looks too good for the performance.
@TheSuperocean One thing to remember Superocean, the government helped to rescue the automakers, not the dealers. Completely different. I have to believe the folks at GM aren't too happy with that situation, especially the press it's getting. While I believe dealer markup is OK (this is a free market society after all) that situation is deplorable if the buyer isn't being fully informed. FAIL indeed.
@bg1379 Both cars have substantial waiting lists. Chevy and Nissan aren't exactly pumping these out like Camrys and Accords. There are very few available to buy.
What city do you live in? I've also only seen two of these in the wild here in Seattle but they aren't for sale here yet. These owners have gone out of the area to buy theirs (they had Washington plates). In contrast I've seen 8 or 9 Leafs, which are on sale here.
