  • I played my first round of golf at a real golf course! Check out this course vlog as I share my experience of jumping into the deep end and getting some on-course experience. [SCROLL DOWN FOR COURSE REVIEW]
Do you remember your first round?
I wanted to record my round shot-by-shot, but had a group who were held up in front of me by the group in front of them, followed by a group behind me. The pressure was on! The first shot off the tee was probably the worst of the round 😂 Most of the additional strokes over par were from miss hits, nerves and poor focus. Many of those were duffs on the fairway and poor shots off the tee. I did hit a ball into the water off the tee on the 7th hole, which was the only lost ball 🙂
When I managed to relax and just "swing the club", hit some good ones and felt my putting went very well, with so many almosts. I almost had a birdie on the 5th, then lost a bit of focus and ended up with bogey.
The exciting part of this 9 hole round is knowing that I could easily turn some of those doubles to bogeys and potentially even a par or two.
    Feeling fired up for 2021.
⛳️ LEARNING GOAL =Get some on course experience
I wanted to get some experience on a real 9 hole golf course, to benchmark my skills for the year to come and put what I had practiced at the range to a true test.
    ⛳️ LEARNING RESULTS
Having nerves going into a shot and putting too much pressure on yourself when standing over the ball is a certain way to hit a bad shot. I played my best shots when I relaxed, took some deep breaths and didnt put too much pressure on the shot at hand.
Confidence will come, it just takes time and practice!

    📍 COURSE REVIEW
A great course in excellent condition. The greens where immaculate and played wonderfully. The fairways were looked after and well drained. You could tell that the groundskeepers took pride in their course. For just £15, this is fantastic value for money! Some challenging holes, water hazards, good bunker placement and ending in a long par 5. This course would be great fun for any level player.

It's a small world when you realise you were in a two ball behind. Great video.
Abbey Moor is a great place to start. As a former employee of the club I can't praise the place and staff enough. Look forward to seeing you progress.

      Hi,
How come he is playing from the red zones?

@@liamforster8852 I guess personal preference? He wouldn't have been playing to or for a handicap, but the world handicap system now allows for males to play from any tee, despite the reds traditionally being the ladies tee.

Don't stress too much about topping your ball when starting out. You only start getting really consist (and understanding your shot making) after around 30 rounds. I went from shooting 120s to low 90s in 3 months - your scores will lower in tranches as you figure these things out.

@@discoveringgolf3512 well to be honest I've never been for lessons but I played a few times a year about 15 years ago as a teenager. Wasn't very good at it at the time but I built a swing back then. Now that I've taken it back up the muscle memory of a "swing" was still kinda there but it was very rusty. I watched a lot of UA-cam videos and read a few books (which I can recommend) and started taking notes. I'd progressively build on different aspects of my swing (although there are aspects that I'm not bothered about quite yet - like obsessing over hip rotation, or the way my wrists are cocked to use some examples).
Anyway, I am very luck in that I pay $35 a month for unlimited rounds and range time, so it allows me to play a lot. What I have found is to really get your putting dialled in - find your stroke and set up and stick to it. This led to a drastic drop in score with the least effort.
As for the aha moment you mention - they come in waves as I mentioned previously. One of the club professionals suggested I play twilight golf with 3 balls, and with those balls play 3 different types of shot whilst playing them all from the same distance, and to take notes on what works, what doesn't etc.
Also when I play I will make notes eg 4 iron punch goes 130 yards at a maximum height of 15 feet (just as another example).
I suppose it really comes down to the more one plays, the more intimate and comfortable one becomes with one's clubs, one's abilities, and of course the course.

Nice video mate! I would say you could have done with a higher lofted wedge on some of those shots around the green (I know you only brought a selection of clubs with you). As a beginner myself who plays alone sometimes, it's mad how other groups watching your tee shots can have such a large negative impact! Keep up the good work.

    • @discoveringgolf3512
      @discoveringgolf3512  3 роки тому

I currently dont have any, highest loft is the sand wedge but I didnt quite feel confident with it from the grass yet. I am going to try and practice my chipping over the next weeks.
Yes, I tried to zone them out but i must say its hard sometimes.

Never play your first round of golf by yourself, take an experienced friend. Golf is supposed to be fun, and you appear somewhat petrified. My golf partner dragged me kicking and screaming to my first 9 holes of golf. But after getting a ball or two in the air (somewhere around the third hole), I felt more comfortable. Your video is great because I know by now you're sailing around the golf course like you own it...WOO-HOO!...🏌⛳🛺
