Golf is booming!! If you're finding the game for the first time, or return after a few years away, what should you expect from your first round of golf in a while, or EVER?
In this video Donal plays a round at his local club to point out some fundamentals of playing 18 holes.

Thanks mate. I'm having a terrible anxiety because I'm helping a mate out with a company golf outing and I haven't played for ten years! This helped me out

What great tips, Donal! Thank you!
I am going out for my first round this Saturday with a number of other beginners. We are five weeks into our 8-week clinic and it's been an awesome experience.
I have played three non-serious rounds where my husband was really paying attention to my ability (or inability) to hit the ball cleanly from various lies (mostly bad ones!). I think we counted 114 on the very first go with many shots wasted (this was before I signed up for the clinic) and I think I'll be able to bring it down a little bit with the lessons (and some driving range sessions) now under my belt. This coming round will go towards obtaining a handicap.
I'm scared, thrilled, nervous and excited all at once but I'm looking forward to the experience and I'm going to go out there and have fun. I might lose all my balls on Saturday but if I hit one good drive or land a wedge shot where I want it to go (my 56° and I have become best friends), then I'll have had a successful day.
Thank you for all your videos. I watch them all the time and I'm always impatient waiting for the new ones to come through. 🤣 Keep them coming. As the poster above put it, this channel is really underrated.
    Best wishes,
    Natalie

      Happy New Year!
It went very well thank you! I got a starting handicap of 38 in April/May but in the process of still learning it went up to 45 (maybe I should've delayed playing club comps as the poor results affect your handicap - I really dived in the deep end!). I played in June and then lockdown kept me from playing my home course and I went two months without playing a single hole. It was far too expensive for us to pay at the nearby course but then our member club got a reciprocal rights deal with this closer golf course and we restarted playing in August. We paid just $25 per round compared to $65! At this club, I whittled my handicap down to 36 and now, having returned to my home club since lockdown ended, I sit at 31.3. I have had one short game lesson with a pro near my work in December. The rest is me just getting out every weekend and tweaking here and there. I had a wicked slice drive that I have been working on and it is just coming right now. It helped me win our club comp Sunday just gone (39 stableford). My scores range around the 108-115 range so I'm still a while off breaking 100 but I'm determined and have set goals. I made a great start to our club champs in late November. I capitulated in round 2 though and I'm still trying to work out why, but made up for it in the final round. I think had I not bombed the second round I would've placed in the Top 5 for my grade. Anyway, I'm taking it all on as experience and have bigger goals set for this year. I'm planning to get fitted as well. Currently I am using second hand Cobra Bio Cell Senior Flex Driver, 3W, 4-hybrid, 5-GW and my mates, a Ping 56° and Ping 60°. I hit these well now after a lot of trial and error.
So that's me! I'm really loving the journey. I wish I played this game years ago. I hope you have success with your golf too. Are you new to the game at all or you been playing a while?
      Happy golfing!
      Cheers 😊

What about if we don't know anyone who golf? I've taken it up and have been the the range and am putting and chipping at home. I want to play my first round but don't know what to do. My local course is not fancy and doesn't have a map of the course. How do I know where to tee off at? How do I know where to go? How far is it? Etc, etc, it's kept me from playing a round. When I go into the club to buy range tokens I've asked how they know where the holes are and they just say "everyone knows this course". Well I don't.

I've been practicing with my irons and wedges over the past year and have been making strides recently but I'm honestly really nervous about playing my first round of golf. I'm assuming, since I'm going solo, that I'll be paired with another group. It has made made me hesitant to go because I'm worried about getting paired up with more experienced, serious players and I don't want to ruin someone's round and I'm a bit nervous about trying to figure things out with people watching. I'm hoping if I just tell them its my first round they will take a little pity on me lol. I've also heard it's good manners to pick up and move on after a certain amount of shots over par (4?) to help rate of play? Going to go for it in the next couple weeks, any advice?

I played badly for years and look back at it as a massive waste of time! Even a 9 hole game is half a day once all things are accounted for.
